Aperture 3.0.2 keeps "processing"

after the updates my aperture works great, its responsive and quick. however every time i lunch aperture in the bottom it says, "Processing..." then i click on it to see the activity window. under activity it says updating library (with expandable arrow if i expand it: it says, "processing" then in the description it says "Processing the vr1" then under status list it says 0 of 11(doesn't do anything). activity window gives me option to pause task or cancel task. if i cancel the "processing..." goes away but status says canceling. i just don't want this all the time. i don't know what its doing, what is vr1? i can not afford to go back in time machine. please let me know. thank you.

i ve been in the same situation, but aperture infinite disk scratch help it to go down, the disk is dead now. As a good guy i ve got a vault, the one miss 30 Gig foto in a removed pict folder in the back up disk. Crazy i did not remove pict for Aperture. I have a new disk, restaure the vault, reimport the 30gig foto. repaire & rebuild the databse (takes 2 days on a mac mini with 210 Gigs bank).
Aperture 2 was my fav apple application,
Since Aperture 3, i just have fonction i used doesnt exist, color ball every time, nearly loose foto, and loose 30 gig tags, folder, correction, selection.
Thats things makes me switch to light room on a PC.
i feel realy disapointed.

  • Aperture won't "quit" and processing very slowly

I'm running Aperture 3.4.1 on  a late 2009, 27 inch iMac with 8GB of RAM.
Since I downloaded version 3.4.1 I'm finding that Aperture is incredibly slow in processing smallish batches of photos (e.g. 60 x 15.5MB RAW files).
I've left it running for 24 hours and find that as soon as I try to edit a photo adjustments don't show up in the preview, because it's either "loading" (and never stops loading) or "processing."
When I try to quit Aperture either by selecting Quit or the little x in the top left of the window, nothing happens. And yet, I'm not getting any indication that Aperture is "not responding" if I open Force Quit or the Activity Monitor.
Very frustrating, as I'm trying to edit some photos for family member, and can't really do a thing.
My library is 421GB and not referenced (maybe that's part of the problem; I don't know)
Any sage advice will be appreciated.
    cheers,
    Nick

The first step did nothing for me,
You really could not work with a new, empty library from your account?
Switching back to my main account though and removing the user preferences did not change a thing though.
o.k., did you also try to remove your presets, not only the preferences com.aperture.plist?
The presets are in the folder:
    ~/Library/Application Support/Aperture/
and especially the Raw decode Presets occasionally are causing trouble.
Remove  the Image capture preferences as well; see this post by fof:
Re: Aperture 3.4 will not open after 10.8.2 installed
Quit Aperture, if it is running:
Open the user library by using the Finder's "Go > Go to Folder" menu,
    enter    ~/Library/Preferences/ByHost   into the textfield.
In the widow that will open, remove all files from the "ByHost" folder, that have "com.apple.ImageCapture......" in its name.
From the "Preferences" folder  remove "com.apple.Image_Capture.plist".
Then try to launch Aperture again.

  • Distmgr keeps processing package

    Hi All,
We have SCCM 2012 R2 - CAS, few primary and lots of secondary sites.
Today I'm surprised to see that, distribution manager component on all sites keeps processing two different packages (created at two different primary sites) all the time.
Those packages successfully distributed to targeted DPs, i'm not so sure what went wrong meantime with other sites/DPs who not even in the target list but still processing package. Can someone please help me to understand what can caused this and
how to get rid out of this?

  • Upon entering aperture, hard drive sticks, says 'processing" nothing works, any ideas?

When I open aperture, the hardrive sticks, indicates "processing."  Started when a canon camera was downloading files.  Any way to find out what it is "processing" and get it to stop?

Thanks for your help.  The activity box came up, said 'processing" but wouldn't let me cancel it.  I tried taking out the library and the "processing"  continued the next time I opened apertature.  The only solution I have found to make it work, strangely enough, is to open it, force quit, open it again, minimize it, and open it - then it works and the activity viewer says nothing is going on.

  • 7.5SP07: Dimension keeps processing

    Hi,
One of the Z dimension keeps processing for more than 3 hrs. It has the huge amount of members. After 3 hrs or some time more it gets processed
Is there any thing we can be done to reduce the time for processing.
    Anurodh

    Hi,
It could be directly related to the number of members that you have in that dimension. Do you need to process this dimension often? Would it be possible to start processing this dimension at the end of your hours.....as it is anyway a back ground job in BW.
In EPM 10, they have come up with incremental master data processing. If it is directly related with your huge member list, then it is better to start processing this dimension just before you leave.
    Thanks,

  • Winword process keeps processing

    Dear,
The server is Win 2008 R2 with office 2010. The version of PeopleTools is 8.53.07 and then run the Winword procss. It keeps processing and can not change to be success.
Anyone has the same experience and please advise.
    Thanks in advance!

I would recommend logging into the process scheduler server as the service account configured to run the process scheduler.  Then try starting word and ensure it is working properly.  I ran into a recent problem with nVision failing and it was due to Excel taking 5 minutes to start.  For some reason there was 10's of thousands of documents that were discovered in recovery mode.  Once I flushed them out things went back to normal. Confirming word is working as the actual user running it would be the first step.

  • Aperture automatically starts exporting while processing

I just updated my Aperture 3 with the newes update, and it seems to have an issue with processing image adjustments. When I apply a couple of adjustments without waiting for one adjustment to stop "processing" before applying the next, the text automatically change from "processing" to "exporting" and it keeps saying "exporting" until I shut down. If I apply further adjustments these are implemented and the text changes from "Exporting" to "processing" before it changes back again.
Is it something I do, or is it at bug in Aperture.

It sounds like you are working it a bit to hard.
I think you may need more RAM, or slow down a little when doing adjustments. Allan

I have exactly the same problem. Over the last couple of weeks I've not been able to get Aperture to work. I have tried:
Trashing the "com.apple.plist" file from the preferences folder in the Library folder, and restarting.
    Repairing the disk permissions.
Trashing the all traces of the application, including the plist file and restarting.
Nothing has so far worked. Any suggestions?

  • Considering buying aperture.  Have raw images processed in NIK NX2 software.  What happens to those files when imported into Aperture?

Understand NiK is discontinuing Capture NX2.  Therefore would like to buy Aperture as host for image management.  If I do purchase and import RAW files previously processed in NX2 into Aperture.  Is old processing retained?  Doubtful.  Or is new processing required?  Have an iMac with iPhoto 10 etc.

    Richard and Beverly wrote:

You can import the image files converted from RAW and edited by NX2 but they will no longer be RAW NEF files they will be non-lossy TIFF files or lossy JPEG.
Or you can import the original RAW NEF files into Aperture for Aperture to do the RAW conversion.
To my eyes/brain with the Nikon cameras I use (D2x, D100, D5100) I find that NX2 provides the most pleasing RAW conversions, but I still use Aperture for its great workflow.

  • Aperture 3: problem when re-processing raw files to the latest converter

After converting to Aperture 3, many of my Nikon D80 raw files are coming up with the message:
"This photo was adjusted using an earlier version of Apple's RAW processing."
Aperture 3 offers a "Reprocess" button next to the message. Every time I click it, the images gets messed up with a big spike in the highlight end of the green channel. Is this a bug? Anyone else seeing this?

I faced the same problem when importing from my card reader. I chose to save the A3 library on a removable disk. The importing took ages to finish, and then all the pictures had a green color. It said that the pictures were processed using an earlier Apple Raw processor, and I had the Reprocess button. I did that and nothing changed.
I restarted A3, and now my project has disappeared even though it is available on disk.
I opened the original library on my MB hard disk and the photos showed fine.
I'm going to retest this, by importing the pictures to the default A3 library, maybe it will then recognize my pictures and process them correctly.
EDIT: when importing to the default Aperture Library (not the one on a separate drive), it's very fast, correct, and no problems. I'll guess I'll have to backup the old way...

  • How to choose which Aperture duplicate photo to keep

I use Aperture 3.4.5 on an iMac with OS 10.8.4 and, like many others who have written to this community, I have acquired lots of duplicates because some years ago I  moved from iPhoto to Aperture. Those collections are mostly referenced in their original collections. I quite understand how these duplicates came to be.  Using Duplicate Annihilator - Aperture  I have found a great many (4 thousand) pairs of duplicate pictures out of a library of 60 thousand, and as  has been explained by several responders, usually one is called iPhoto Original and the other iPhoto Externally Edited or iPhoto Edited.  I have never knowingly used an external editor, but I do understand that, in iPhoto, just rotating the photo from portrait to landscape will create a copy, something that does not happen with Aperture.  So that is why the dupliocates exist. My question is basically, now that I have found them, how to choose which one of the two versions to keep, because there seems no reason to keep these duplicates.
Obviously if I have made noticeable changes, or added many key words,  then I want to keep that one. The duplicates in question are in  two-photo Stacks. The original will have  a size of 3 MB or 4Mb and the copy will have a smaller size, maybe  as little as 1.5 or 2 MB.  Sometimes the copy has just been rotated (and the file size is made smaller). With Aperture I can rotate the original iPhoto picture and maintain the larger size. Sometimes (but not always) there is a name change from xxxx to xxxx.jpg.  But even without a name change, the edited or rotated file is smaller.  I have examined the two images at high resolution, in Aperture, and I cannot see any difference, though they have very different sizes.  This surprised me; there seems no benefit from the larger size, though there is a slight shift of the histogram of colors. (I do not plan to print any of these at high resolution, just show them on the iMac or a video.)
So my question is: is it desirable to keep the larger original file, though I do not see a difference in the image on my 27in iMac? I have many of these duplicates to choose between, and I would like to understand the consequences of my choice before I delete things.

I would keep the larger as long as storage space wasn't an issue and if it was I'd look at increasing storage before deleting the larger file.
Think of it this way the larger files contains more data, more data means not only a better image (even if you cannot see a difference on the monitor) but also more options when you go to edit the image.
Cropping is just one obvious example.  A larger file will give you more options when it comes to cropping the image.
You can always create the smaller from the larger, you can;t go the other way. Once you delete the larger file the data is lost for good.

  • Aperture 3 not usable - Constantly "processing"

I need some SERIOUS help PLEASE!!!! I have been using Aperture 2 and loved it. Seen the new Aperture 3 and thought hey great upgrades so I bought the upgrade version and installed. Everything seemed ok until I uploaded some images into a project. When I am in the project it freezes my computer (gets stuck on an image and says processing...can't do anything in this stage) and I have to force quit. I have tried everything....restarting, checking for software updates, googling it, leaving it stand for a bit and nothing has helped. I even uninstalled (moved to trash) and tried reinstalling. However I think I did something wrong as when I reinstalled all my original albums were in there still so it must not have uninstalled??? I am trying to edit some pictures and promised my client they would be done this weekend. I have been in many tears over this. Very frustrated. Any help would be appreciated HUGELY!!!

Problems for those who used Aperture 2.0 (like me) seem to be:
-- Problems in the AP2 database, which didn't bother AP2 but which prevent conversion to AP3. AP3's database appears to be very, very different and you will have to allow about 5 seconds per image for conversion. (My 10k images took about 3 hours.)
-- Inadequate disk space during the conversion process. There is a lot of reading and writing going on, you will need lots of free space. (I used an external drive with twice as much free space as the size of my Library.) After everything was back where I wanted it, I found that a "Quick" defrag, using iDefrag worked wonders for import and export speed. (Long sequential reads.)
-- Problem images, the following have been noted: Big TIFF, images with lots of spot and patch, some images with retouch.
-- Residual AP2 data and settings in the RAW default files, preference files, and cache files. Purging these files generally results in a huge speed increase, once they are rebuilt for AP3. (Appzapper might help cleaning all traces of AP2 from your machine.)
Finally a certain generation of iMacs with an NVIDIA graphics card seem to be simply broken for Aperture 3. This won't get fixed until Apple fixes it.
As always, make sure you have a safety copy of EVERYTHING before you do anything. This has been a most un-Apple like experience, but AP3 is a very nice upgrade and can really fly on a 4 GB machine; in my case, my Mini runs AP3 faster than my MacPro ever ran AP2.
    Good luck!

  • How do you keep processes from starting up?

i have no HP software from on my computer and i still have HP's process starting up on my computer. i need to know how to keep a process from starting up. i know in windows you do MSCONFIG, does OS X have anything like that? thanks.

As the Hatter said, get EasyFind:
    http://www.devon-technologies.com/download/
It's free and a nifty little program. Spotlight is programmed to not search in most system folders so will not find many of the pieces of an app you want to de-install. EasyFind will look in those places so you can delete whatever else of the HP app is still around.
