Aperture 3.1.2 leaves ..importing.* files after import from camera

Hi all,
I keep all my files in a folder named Referenced Images. That folder has started accumulating a large number of files of the form
..importing.IMG_8540.JPG_
One such file for every image I have imported from my camera into Aperture. I assume I can delete them since the file is in the folder, but why are they there in the first place?
Thanks,
Scott

Hi, have you tried updating to 3.1.3 to see if this still occurs?

How do I import images from my hard drive without losing resolution? My original files after import are significantly smaller. What should I do?

Hi Keith, and all others chiming in, I do have the correct option checked in advanced settings telling iPhoto to copy the images into the library. What is a refernced library? Perhaps this is where I am getting confused. I exported my entire photo library from an old iMac5 to my external hard drive, from there I attempted to import the entire library to my new iMac. Am I overlooking an obvious and easy way to import from the hard drive to the new iMac--I dragged the entire photo pholder from the hard drive to the open window of iPhoto on the new computer. Now, I only get preview file sizes in iPhoto, unless I have my external drive open. Perhaps I need to import the original images from the hard drive in a different way...?! (This is making me feel pretty stupid.)

Bridge will do the job. View > Sort > ByType. Then you can choose a group of one type and put the files in a separate folder.

  • Cannot Open Excel File after exporting from Disco Plus

    Hi there,
I got a question from one user having issue with opening Excel file after exporting from Disco Plus.
The report has been using for a while and he is using Excel 2003 version and Discoverer 10g(10.1.2.2), he never got this kind of error before, just recently got error.
After exporting from Disco Plus he saved file on his desktop and when he tries to open the excel it says "Cannot be Accessed, can be corrupted...." but this is not from network drive since he saved file on local desktop or C drive.
Also not for all reports, only this particular report and only specific parameter, for example for parameter 2008 Feb opened successfully, but for2009 Feb he gets this error when trying to open excel.
i tried in excel 2007 also , i dont think this is Excel version error, am not sure.
Also after go live last week (we upgraded database from 9i to 10g) but i am not sure this causes ,since for one parameter working, for other parameter not working.
Actually we should get one window for Macro when we try to open excel, but he is not getting it seems.
Any ideas/thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks for your help

    Rod,
Thanks for your quick response on this.
Yes, we can export to other formats as well, but actually exporting is working, after saving the file on our local desktop/drive and when we try to open we get this kind messages or we cannot open the file, we should get message window for Macro to enable/disable but for this report we are not getting this either,
Also this happens only for specific parameters, like i mentioned above it works I mean excel file opens for one set of parameters but for some other set of parameters cannot open.
For example :- when we enter FEB 2008 it works, if we enter FEB 2009 it won't open the file.
    This is weird
I am still working on this issue, may be better to recreate the report again might be helpful,
    Any ideas/comments/thoughts would be great
    Thanks

  • When importing files into fcpx from go pro hero2, some are importing as .mov and some as .mp4. when making a multi cam clip it will only add one type, if you try and add the other it says camera clip cannot be processed.

when importing files into fcpx from go pro hero2, some are importing as .mov and some as .mp4. when making a multi cam clip it will only add one type, if you try and add the other it says camera clip cannot be processed. need to figure out why it randomly imports differently, or how to add different file tyoes to multi cam.

here is one that is imported and stays .mp4. the specs are same as original file before import.
here is one that has changed somehow during import. specs on original file are same as above, but once it is imported it changes to this in event folder, and others randomly keep the above specs.

  • Aperture 3.4.5 will not show NEF files after importing in OSx 3.8.5

Hi this is driving me crazy.  I have quite a few NEF files from a Nikon E5000 that I would love to be able to process using Aperture but have run into a rather difficut situation.  When I import my images into Aperture I can see the preview of the files in the browser but can not get them to display after they have been imported.  I have tried importing localy through the internal hard drive on my IMac late 2007 as well as through an external NTFS formated USB backup of my files.  It also chokes on direct imprting from the CF card using a card reader.  In all cases they will sometimes display for a brief second both in the picture browser after importing or on the film strip view but will then disapear and display "unsupported image format" in its place.  I have reinstalled aperture and run both repair persissions through disk utility and the aperture repair utility that ships with aperture.  I have no problems with canon raw files or other file formats - jpg, tiff, png, photoshop, bmp.  Also NEF files will open in lightroom 5 and photoshop cs6 with out issue as well.
Any help in restoring functionility would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks for the time and effort in advance.

    Nikon E5000
Do you mean a NIkon CP 5000 (Coolpix 5000)? Aperture supports many raw formats, but not all, because the raw support  has to be camera specific. Not all NEF files are in the same format - all Nikon cameras will call their raw files NEF.
For some cameras Aperture never included raw support. The currently supported cameras are listed here:
    http://www.apple.com/aperture/specs/raw.html
It looks like your camera is not on this list, so if you want to shoot raw with that camera, develope the raw files using a different raw converter (Adobe's dng converter or the suftware that came with your camera) and import tiff or dng files to Aperture.

  • Retrieving Raw Files after import...?

I shoot all RAW files and have imported them to my iPhoto. How do I retrieve the RAW file from iphoto. If I copy and drag them out of iPhoto they are .jpg... Is it too late and does iPhoto convert them upon import.
Also and clue on if Aperture does the same thing?

    File -> Export, Kind: Original
When you import a Raw to iPhoto it automatically creates a jepg preview of the file. Why? Because you cannot do anything with a Raw: you cannot print it, use it a slideshow and so on. However, with this preview you can work with the photo immediately.
You can, however, also process the Raw in iPhoto simply by editing it. The Raw processing engine in iPhoto the same one used in Aperture, but with less fine control. (Think of the differences between Word and TextEdit, iMovie and Final Cut). The output from the processing then replaces the preview. You can choose to save your output as either jpeg or tiff in the iPhoto Preferences.
When you are processing Raw in iPhoto you will see the Raw badge on the bottom of the iPhoto Window
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
Note: After you have processed a Raw, subsequent edits to the photo are carried out on the processed jpeg (or tiff) not the Raw. If you want to go back to the original then you need to use the Photos -> Reprocess Raw command.
Aperture works in an entirely different way. What are you trying to do, exactly?

  • Magenta banding on some files after importing

I am having a problem where just a few of my files show heavy magenta banding after importing into Lightroom 4.1.  I am importing RAW files from a Nikon D800. I don't think it's the camera because most of my files are fine.  And I don't think it's the files themselves either because they look fine in camera, in finder (Mac OS X 10.6), in Photoshop CS5 and even in Lightroom 4.1 itself at the import preview. But once I actually import the photos, they suddenly become corrupt and show heavy magenta banding. I've removed the files from the catalog and the HDD several times and attempted to re-import several times without success. And of course there are several attempts at restarting the iMac and running hardware checkers etc. to eliminate extra variables.  It's only 5 or 6 files out of maybe 30.  Please offer advise...

Well, a strange thing happened...I just reloaded the images so that I could verify one last time that I was picking one that was corrupted so that I could upload it to you and none of the files now show any signs of corruption.  I imported them to a temp folder on my desktop so that I could much more easily remove them from LR4 when I was done and they looked fine.  So I reversed the process and attempted to reimport them to their original folder with the rest of the files from the shoot and they still looked fine.  I even restarted and reopened LR4 and same result.
Rikk might have been right because the only thing I had done so far was run the "recalibration" of the color profile in my system preferences - even though all I did was click next-next-next and leave all of the defaults.  But I went ahead and reverted back to the old profile to see if it might have been corrupted, and the files still look good.
I don't know...Thank you all for your help.  If the problems pop back up again, I'll come back on with more info.  From now on, I'm going to mirror my files to the other memory card for a backup instead of using it for overflow so that I can at least have something to work with on trying to eliminate the card as the problem if this problem shows back up.  Let's hope this isn't an intermittent camera problem.

  • Colours trouble with a psd file after import/export through Lightroom 4

I'm working with CS5, and I just bought LR4. I took a psd file (in Adobe 98 space) and I imported it in LR 4, and the exported as psd file in Adobe 98 colour space. Both files, the original one and the other after import/export, are quite different. The saturation of the res is not the same... When I repeat this experinece with a psd file in sRGB or in Prophoto, I have no difference betwwen both files.
I then conclude that LR doesn't recognize the adobe 98 pprofile of my psd file.
Is that normal, have you tried this experience, is there a bug in LR or a bug in the way, I proceed?
    Best regards

When you import there is an Advanced button in one of the dialogs. Click that and you will be able to Paginate against chosen styles. That will break your document into topics.

  • Aperture 3.3.2 Not Ejecting Card After Import?

Has anyone else noticed that Aperture is not automaically ejecting the SD card after an Import even thogh that option is checked on the Import window? I've loaded two cards since the upgrade and so far neither time has it ejected the card as expected.

    Jim,
Glad you're happy it no longer ejects the card after import. However, that's not the way it's supposed to work if you have the eject card option checked.
    thank you, I think
The way it is supposed to work is not described in the manual, for it is depending on the make of your camera. The manual only states:
Note: The options offered in this dialog depend on the way your camera is made available when it is connected. Some cameras connect as mass storage devices. When you import from these cameras, the Erase and Eject options appear. Other cameras simply connect as cameras, and you will not see either Erase or Eject after the import is completed. In that case, you can erase the images directly in the camera.
I see for all cameras different controls. For my Lumix camera I see the "Eject" button, but no option to choose, if I want automatic eject. The Canon camera does not show any options at all. The automatic "Eject" option I have never seen for any camera I had - only an automatic "Erase", that I never used, for it is dangerous. So up to now I had to live with auto eject, because there never has been an option to select differently.
Apple certainly could improve the documentation of this feature in the otherwise very good manual.

  • Separating jpg and raw files after importing in lightroom 5

  • Aperture 3 does not detect duplicate files on import

On import, AP3 still shows the same files I'm importing from my compact flash card that have already been imported. Raw files are coming from a Nikon D70. This also happens when I try to import photos from an SDHC card coming off from a Canon HFS10 camcorder.
The check mark to "not import duplicate" is checked, yet imported files still show up. I had this same problem before with Aperture 2 and I had to revert back to an older version of CameraRaw -- I believe 2.2 -- to fix the problem.
    Need help please.
    Thanks.

I was running an up to date version of Aperture 2 on all three of my machines. I upgraded the 17 MBP to Aperture 3. All seemed to function normally. I exported "versions" from an Aperture 2 machine in an attempt to consolidate my libraries. No file names had been changed. "Do not import duplicates" was selected. Aperture 3 wanted to import all files even though some were already present in AP3. I went back and exported "masters" not versions, still saw all files being available for import.
Here is what the AP3 manual says:
"When you import images, Aperture automatically checks to see if any of the images are duplicates of previously imported images. Aperture checks the filename of the master to determine if an image is a duplicate of one in the library. Select the “Do not import duplicates” checkbox to prevent Aperture from importing duplicates. If this checkbox is unselected, Aperture imports all images, even if they are duplicates, and creates a new master with a different name for each duplicate. Aperture never overwrites or replaces a master that has already been imported."
So the question is the "filename" the same. The Finder thinks that the picture file exported from AP2 is exactly the same as the picture file exported from AP3.
Therefore AP3 is not correctly identifying duplicates.
