Aperture 3.1.2 workflow with iMac and MacBook Pro
Could someone please point me to an article that explains how to have the same library on both machines, while keeping the masters on my iMac? I'd like to use my MacBook Pro in the field and sync or copy images to my Aperture library on my iMac once home. Thanks in advance for your help!
One solution: make a temporary Library on the laptop and then later Merge that Library into the iMac Library. Best is probably to make new temporary Library each time you do this, as issues have been known to present themselves if one makes the process too sophisticated. Aperture is a single-user application.
There are other solutions as well, all work-arounds until Aperture is built to do exactly what you ask. Many of us have been asking since v1.

I own both an iMac and MacBook Pro and I'm interested in figuring out the best way to have access to my iTunes, Aperture and Final Cut Pro X files not only when I'm at home using the iMac, but when I'm out and about with the MBP.
I'm sure there are others among us who require a similar setup so I was hoping you guys could share with me how you solved this little problem, and also inform me of any potential negatives for your method so that I'm well prepared. Thanks.Best is a subjective term, as it will ultimately come down to preference. The fastest however, would be to wait until they market has a few thunderbolt drives available for purchase...
But like the first poster stated, a firewire 800 drive, would be the more convenient choice for now. Or you could set the shared folder on your iMac to be avaible on your network and use it to allow your MBP to access it wirelessly.
Obviously whatever you change, just save it back to the same folder on the iMac. Keep in mind it will not be as fast as the first suggestion (unless it is a wired network), but may be usefull for smaller files.
However, you should have everthing backed up via an external drive, that is always useful... -

When I try to see my Grandson on webcam out of state the login will not activate. For PC use I needed Java and Active X to let it run. My Java is checked as ready to go but nothing happens. Otherwise these are great computers. Please help me through the process. The Geniuses at my apple store can't understand what to do.
[email protected] or [email protected]By default, OS X does NOT come with Java installed nowadays. You need to open the Java Preferences app found in Utilities; when you do that the first time, it will inform you of the fact and offer to install the product for you.
Afterwards, due to a major security issue we had back in the first quarter of the year, the plugin is disabled by default. You need to revisit the Preferences and enable manually. It will auto-disable if unused in awhile.
Lastly, you may have to adjust which Java instance is being used, the 32-bit or the 64-bit. Default is 64-bit, but some applets crash & burn or outright refuse to run in such a platform. You can prioritize which version you prefer by dragging on top in the Preferences. -

Files disappearing iMac and MacBook Pro with iCloud
Just converted to Apple one month ago buying iMac and MacBook Pro.
iMac at office, MacBook at home.
My documents are mostly texts with Microsoft Word and numbers with Microsoft Excel.
I am using the new beta preview Word and Excel.
I copied everything (15 Go) to iCloud.
Not only the files don't synchronize between computers, they disappear.You'll have to give yourself permission to the files. Do a +Get Info+ via the Finder, click the padlock at the lower right, and enter your Admin password.
Then click the plus sign at the bottom, and select your user account. That will give you Read rights. Click the arrows in front of +Read Only+ and select +Read & Write.+
If they're all in a folder, do this on the folder, then click the "gear" icon and select +Apply to enclosed items.+ That may take a while if there are a lot of files. -
IMac and Macbook Pro no longer connecting to the Wifi?
Hi there,
I've been in London this weekend, only to return home to find issues connecting to my wifi. Weirdly, it's only the iMac and Macbook Pro having trouble, everything else is connecting fine e.g iPad, Phone, Android Tablet etc.
I'm getting disconnected around every 20 seconds and cannot figure it out! It's so frustrating as I'm wondering if there's been an update released for OS X that it has downloaded recently? Especially seeing that when I run windows from bootcamp on my iMac, it doesn't disconnect. And I also don't believe it's an issue with the hub.
Has anyone got any suggestions? I've tried removing the network and re-adding, help for about an hour but still not much use.

Imac and Macbook pro can no longer see one another
I'm not sure why, but all since I upgraded to Yosemite, I can no longer see my iMac on my Macbook Pro and vice versa. I could always see the computer that I needed to connect to in finder, or I could connect with my iCloud password. As of today, I can no longer access my iMac from my Macbook Pro and that's a problem. If someone could provide directions (dumbed down version) explaining how to connect the computers from scratch, I would greatly appreciate it. I am fine with setting it up again but I can't recall how I did it. Thanks so much. I did upgrade both my iMac and MacBook pro to Yosemite over the weekend.

My Imac and macbook pro stopped accessing my MP640 via the home wifi set up, so I sent all the canon software to the trash on both computers, thinking I should reinstall the software I got with the printer, but the software does not recognise os 10.7.5. I am using a netgear modem. I also use time machine to back up to time capsule.

CS3 License on Imac and MacBook Pro

I have 3 licenses for CS3 Design Premium. Two of them are used on a PC and one of them on my machine (Imac).
Now I have recently purchased a Macbook Pro and I want to use the same license as that on the Imac for my laptop. Can I do it?
I am assuming that both machines should not be used simultanously. Now when I am travelling with my Macbook, my fixed machine (Imac) is not really used by anyone else but there are chances that someone might just browse through and use CS3 occassionally. In that case am I breaching the contract?
Is there a method where only when I log in then I can use CS3 on the Imac? This would ensure that while I am travelling people can use my Imac as a guest login but not use CS3.
In any case, my first requirement is can i install my single license on an Imac and Macbook Pro?

AlimI have the exact same problem. iCloud drive on my iMac and macbook pro contain some of the same files, but not all.
Files that haven't synced are several days old rather than weeks to months old, so possibly this is a verrrry slow sync issue hopefully. -

ThanksSometimes files get corrupt or lose their permissions this is normal part of most operating systems. When you lose permissions to a file it will not let you read or write to that file. This can cause problems with your system because to do work on your system you need to have access to read and write to some files.

On your iPad,iPhone keep the iCloud on in settings for Photos.
if you have not opened the New Photos application yet to have it transfer your photos from iPhoto let it Transfer the Pictures.
once you have all the pictures from iPhoto to Photos then in Photos go to Preferences
there is general and iCloud tab and go to the iCloud and only uncheck the iCloud button that will make it so it doesn't sync with your iPhone and iPad for Photos.
Then in Photos go up to View and press show sidebar because with that view you can move your pictures easier to albums snd delete or move any pictures or make new albums
when you are all done with moving around your pictures or whatever go back to Preferences and turn on iCloud and make sure you have the optimize Mac Storage and then you are done! I hope this makes sense and works for you! here are the 2 pictures I'm talking about in settings -
Home sharing iMac and MacBook Pro: not all songs are playable

I set up Home Sharing between my iMac and MacBook Pro so that I could stream the music that's on the iMac to the MacBook Pro. On the MBP there are no songs, all of them are in Apple Lossless format on my iMac. I first tried to use "‘share my library on my local network" but because I wanted the play count to go up as well I chose for "Home Sharing". Setting up was simple. After all preferences were adjusted, I opened iTunes on the MBP and it immediately found the shared iMac library. There's now only one problem: not all songs are playable. Some don't even start. How is this possible and what do I need to do to resolve this?
FYI: the iMac is connected via ethernet to my cable modem which sends a wireless Wi-Fi signal to the MBP. Signal quality is excellent.
Also, is it possible that playcount is only available with Home Sharing and not with "share my library on my local network"?
Thanks!It very well could be the antivirus app, most are intrusive and debilitate rather than enhance performance and should be removed using the developers instructions. You haven't really told us anything useful such as any settting you may have changed. However if you began working backwards resetting any changes and uninstalling the apps added since the performance issue started then you probably will find your issue.

IMac and Macbook Pro WoW gaming
Hi!
I currently own a macbook, and I need to upgrade if I want to play WoW in a decent quality.
However, I could NOT find any decent information about performance on the new iMac and Macbook Pro machines.
Would it be possible that if any owner that plays WoW could set graphics to Highest possible settings and post their frames per second in Dalaran for example? Mac details and specs would be very appreciated, specially for the graphics card.
Maybe this is not the place for this post, but I hope someone help me out on this. =)

I have 20M down / 5M up to the house and 801.11g router. With my 2007 MBP over wireless (good connection), I generally get in the mid 40's to 50's in the Outlands, but got 6 when I logged in last night (by the time I logged out, it had crept up to about 35).
On my 2007 24" iMac (C2D w/ the NVidia option -- last of the white models), I generally get 100-110 at 1900x1200 -- and that's using 100Mbps ethernet to the switch plugged into the ONT.
