Aperture 3.2.1 Constantly creating empty projects?

I updated Aperture recently and now the updated version constantly creates empty projects everytime I open it. I delete them but they keep being recreated.
Does anyone know how I can stop this?
Thanks!

Do you have any plugins installed, that might create projects?
Or are you running Automator or Apple Scripts that might activate Aperture and thus create projects?
Do these empty projects appear right before your eyes while you are working with Aperture, or do you find the new projects already in the library when launch Aperture?
Do these projects appear at the top level of the library or inside a special folder?

  • How do I prevent Photostream from creating empty projects?

With photostream on, it creates a project labelled "Nov 2011 Photo Stream" that is empty.  I don't remember creating this project, but I can't swear that I didn't. I delete the project, but everytime I reopen Aperture, it is recreated.  If I turn photostream off within Aperture, this behavior stops.  Turn photostream back on in Aperture, the zombie project comes back.
    How to stop this?

But why does it keep coming back? I understand if the current month is recreated again, but we are in January 2013 and I have Aug, Nov and Dec 2012 that keep reappearing, even though I've already moved the photos to other projects and deleted them.
I can only assume at this point its a bug, but do you have any other ideas on kiling it without having to disable the auto import?

  • Empty project in Aperture

I am using a unified iPhoto/Aperture library which was originally created in iPhoto.    Most things worked fine in Aperture except for the following:
    1)  Photos from some "Events" in iPhoto ended up being separate "projects" in aperture.    I fixed this manually by merging them into a project.
    2)  When I merged some projects, the images ended up in a different "project" altogether.   So I then tried to move those images into the correct project by dragging them into it.   The operation seemed to succeed as the "project" now showed the images in the preview.
    3)  When I opened the "project" with the added images, the folder is empty, yet it still shows the preview of the images that should be contained inside.   I have checked all the filters, and that is not the issue here.   Even the count of images within the project shows as 0...  so why are there previews for the pictures when the project contains no pictures?   And more importantly, what happened to my pictures?!!   It seems like they are simply gone!
Is there a way to fix this or regenerate the library in Aperture?
Screenshot of "Project":   Notice the image previews on the project, but the picture count is 0.

While iPhoto will delete an event, when all photos have been removed, Aperture will not delete empty projects automatically.  So empty projects per se are nothing to wory about. Only sometimes project may appear with an item count of "0", if they are containing hidden photos.
Have you tried to open your Aperture library in iPhoto to look for your photos? (File menu > Open Library in iPhoto)
If an iPhoto event contains only hidden photos, it will show as a project with item count "0" in Aperture. Aperture cannot show hidden photos and it also canot unhide them. This can only be done by opening the library in iPhoto.
If it is not a case of hidden photos, back up your library, if you do not have a current backup, and use the Aperture library First Aid tools to repair or rebuild your Aperture library. Try "Repair" first -- see this manual page: "Repairing and Rebuilding Your Aperture Library: Aperture 3 User Manual"
After repairing look for a "recovered" project.

  • How do I programmatically create and save an empty project?

I can programmatically create an empty project, but when I drop an
invoke node on the project, select "Save", and wire in the desired
path, it results in an "Error 1".  I am getting the error on the "Save"
invoke node (An input parameter is invalid.)  The only input is the
path, which is correct.  What am I doing wrong?  Also, how can I
specify a name for the project?
    Greg

I think the problem is that you use the current path and strip off the path the current VI's name.  This leaves you with a path that has no filename to save it to.  Put in a build path after it where you build in a project name with a .lvproj extension.  When I did that, the error went away.

  • Import created 200K "empty" projects how do I delete?

I used the export/import library process to move photos from one PC to another - used a portable disc drive for the transfer. In addition to pulling in the photos that I wanted it proceeded to add projects for everything on the drive which created 200K projects with no data. This is tying up memory when I try to delete projects of any significant number. It took half-hour to delete 70 projects. What is a better process to eliminate these empty projects? Thanks!

Delete the whole Library and re-do the import?  Sounds as though you managed to specify the whole drive instead of the Library.

  • A rebuild removed projects from photos and put empty projects in the trash.

I'm running Aperature 3.2.4 in OS 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard) on a MacBook Pro 1,1
I have a large library of 37,000 images on an external hard drive. I have experienced a number of problems which culminated in a corrupted drive and library which I have taken several steps to repair. In an attempt to be thorough, I may be including more info than necessary, but here is my tale.
    1) There have been inconsistencies for some time when deleting photos in the camera (compact flash card uploaded through camera) when importing photos. Occurring more frequently, the photos did not get deleted when I made that selection, most normally with the unmount camera box check. This is a big deal, I adapted by checking the camera when it was unmounted.
    2) I hadn't been emptying the trash in Aperture and accumulated several hundred photos in the trash. Blame it on procrastination and no appearance of pressing necessity.
    3) My camera has developed some problems with the USB port, perhaps getting worn with a lot of use. When importing photos, the camera has recently started disconnecting during the import of photos..
    4) This has resulted in a corrupted drive directory, which I was able to repair with Disk Warrior. It also resulted in photos that were not in the Aperture library. Aperture was no longer able to see those unimproved photos, no matter what drive I was able to copy them to. I resolved the import problem by changing the file name slightly. I assume that Aperture registers filenames before importing, and if the import fails, Aperture is unable to see that the import failed. I have added those files by changing the file names, and my long term solution was to get a CF card reader.
    5) I thought that my problems were solved, but when I opened Aperture today, I got a dialog box telling me that I need to repair permissions, then another about rebuilding the library, and a whole series of failed attempts to do so with a string of boxes suggesting that I quit, rebuild, or repair, all attempts eventually hanging. Disk Warrior tells me that several plists mostly involving changes could not be repaired. After several attempts and restarts, I was able to open the library in Aperture.
    6) The left window was missing a large number of projects, but in photo view, all of the photos and versions were there with the meta data showing a path to the original projects. In the project view, all of the projects were there, but I could not open any by clicking on them. When I viewed the trash contents, there were a lot of empty projects. It was probably a mistake, but I emptied the trash.
    7) I have not closed Aperture for fear that might result in changing those paths attached to photos. Hopefully they are the key to setting things straight.
Is there any way I can undue the trash dump, or otherwise return photos to the appropriate projects? I'm talking about nearly 400 projects, so this is not a minor glitch.

I quit Aperture, which hung up while writing preveiws, so I did a force quit. I restarted Aperture while holding down command and option keys, but Aperture opened directly into library with all projects and photos intact. Oddly enough the projects seem to be in a random order, certainly a different order.
I closed Aperture without a problem
I ran Disk Warrior again, and once again there are damaged property lists that cannot be repaired. There are 9 plists numbered from
    File: "0000000002.plist"
    thru
    File: "0000000012.plist"
    all in
    Aperture Library.aplibrary/Database/History/Changes/
I opened Aperture again while holding down command and option keys, this time getting the dialog I wanted, and I'm now running Repair Library Database.
Well the dang thing seems to be hung at "Repairing Library 100% complete"
I'll give it a while, Force Quit and try again.
Any suggestions? Should I try a rebuild on the next try?

  • Create .XML Project File from Scratch

    Hi,
i am from germany, currently writing my bachelors degree creating an automated video editing solution based on final cut studio (yeeessss ... finally
I need to write complex final cut pro projects FROM SCRATCH in an EXTERNAL .XML editor using to greatly speed up the workflow. This means i am looking for any help regarding this topic, such as applescripts who can assist me in doing this.
(Example: Create an Final Cut (.xml) Project with applescript that has already included links to media on an external server, has music in it etc.)
I already have the "FinalCutPro_XML" reference and the "quickie_slate" Applescript which is a start. Any more tips where to look would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance!

i'd recommend you create an empty project file in FCP and export it to XML.
use the exported file as resource data, as it provides you with the basic XML project file container.
then you can just add the additional <parent> and <child> elements as required
also highly recommended would be the free XMLLib osax from Satimage, although it would be better if you learn how to do it with the built in libraries

  • IDVD Freezes when creating new project!?

    Hi all,
When I open iDVD, it give me the main screen, I click Create New Project. The window comes up, but it has trouble opening the stuff inside the window, and does the dreaded rainbow ball.. Never comes out of it. I have to force quit it to get out.
-for any ppl who want it.. here is a sample of it freezing useing Activity Moniter. http://home.comcast.net/~samkirsch/iDVD.txt
    please help!

    Quit iDVD.
Locate a file named com.apple.iDVD.plist and get rid of it. iDVD will create a new one the next time it runs. Empty the trash and run a permission repair using the Disk Utility.
The files can be found here:
    -->/Users/YourName**/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iDVD.plist

  • Trying for Days Just to Create a Project - How?

I've been reading the help files and experimenting for days and simply cannot get through the very first step of creating a project in iMove.  When I click the "New" button and I then click "Movie" it comes to Themes.
So I pick the "Modern" theme.  When I click on create it keeps bringing  up this screen that is impossible to fill out with two entries:
    Name
    Event
I can fill in a name but it keeps showing "Events" (whatever they are...no explanation) that have absolutely nothing to do with the movie I'm trying to create.  Is there some way to get rid of this "Event" option?   There is nothing in there with any of the photos or videos I want to use in my movie.  Where is it coming from?  What does it mean?
I cannot find an explanation of what an "Event" is.  I just want to create a darn movie project with my clips.    Who cares about events?
    Thank you.

Yes, I am reading the manual.  I'm looking right here:  http://help.apple.com/imovie/mac/10.0.6/#/move6ccb3330
However, when I click "New" up at the top and try to create my very first project it asks for a "Name" which I enter, then it asks for an "Event" which it thinks already exists somewhere but this "Event" does not exist so I can't even create the most basic shell to start a movie project.  Where are the "Events"?
I would like to be able to add some movie clips and photos to a very short movie.   I tried dragging some movie clips from the Finder to  anywhere on the left hand side but nothing can be dropped there.  Every attempt is rejected.   Are movie clips "Events"?
How can I even get started if I can't do something as simple as creating an empty project to begin adding movie clips to it?
Yes, I've been reading the manual for days now.  Tried googling, too.  No explanation of how to get rid of this "Event" request that does not exist.

  • Project Server default groups when we create new project site

    Hi,
When we create new project site in project server 2013 in site settings page some default groups are already present with some default permissions and some default members.
Interesting thing is that the members of these group are same when ever we create a new site.
Can you please help me understand, what these groups are, how they get created and how they are having some default members. Where are these members coming from.
Our project server is having project server permission mode.
    Thanks,
    Bhawna.

I briefly searched the MSTechNet but was not able to find a succinct article on this point for 2013, if someone has that, can they pls share. However, if you read most of the articles under this area,
    you get the idea.
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/fp161361(v=office.15).aspx
From 2010 this applies and is still "similar"
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc197668(v=office.14).aspx
In 2013, for every Project Site (connected SharePoint site as it is now called in 2013), 2 Site specific SharePoint security groups are created: "SiteProjectName Project Managers (Project Web App Synchronized)"
& "SiteProjectName Team Members (Project Web App Synchronized)".
And Web Administrators (Project Web App Synchronized) is also created.
In addition, the default SharePoint groups for: Site Members, Site Owners, Site Visitors are present but remain empty.
Project Server controls the creation of these groups and the membership. The membership is a "formula" that goes something like this: If the user is the Project Owner then put them in the PM group.
If the user is a PWA Administrator, then put them in the Administrators group. If the user is a team member on the project, then put them in the Team Members group. There are other factors like RBS that are used in the formula.
Reading the descriptions of the groups reveals that for Project Managers =
Users who have Published this project or who have Save Project Permission in PWA.
For Team Members = Users who have assignments in this project in PWA.
I believe these are the old 2010 descriptions and actually Team Members = anyone who is part of the Build Team even if no assignments.
Further complicating matters is that if you are a site collection admin, you will see all the groups, for PWA and for all the project site (b/c you are actually seeing the site collection groups).
But only the ones mentioned above apply specifically to this project site.
Hope this sheds some light on the topic,
    Thanks, Eric S. Pcubed

  • Photo stream adding multiple empty Projects

In Aperture 3.3.2, with Mountain Lion I am using iCloud an the Photo Stream. Aperture has started adding empty Projects representing prior months from the Photo Stream. I can delete the Projects and when Aperture restarts, the Projects return. Any thoughts?

Thanks for the green mark, Bob. I appreciate it.
I wish I knew a solution that worked with automatic import. But it is highly erratic. One problem seems to be, is that Aperture recreates projects that I deleted long ago, if one of my other devices adds images to the PhotoStream again that originally came from the deleted projects. It is so random, that I turned automatic import off.
And frankly, nine out of 10 images that get automatically added to my stream are images that I do not want on either of my devices, so it saves a lot of work not to be forced to delete them, after an automatic download.
Have you looked at the iCloud forum? Perhaps you find a solution there?

  • Create New Project with existing Source

    Hi there,
I'm new to JDeveloper (10.1.3) IDE. I want to create an Application with an existing Source. As my application cosists of different folders and each module code is present in their respective folders.
In eclipse i will point to the main folder of the project.
    ie.
    folder1
    |-->folder2
    |-->folder3
i will point out to folder1
(NOTE: folder 2 and folder 3 consists of source code of respective modules)
Pls help me in this regard so that i can make use benefits of Jdeveloper.
    Thanks,

Create a new workspace and an empty project in it. Then go to project properties for that project and just add the directories you want under the "project content" node.

  • Is it possible to create a project template? (dsp v4)

Hi I'd like to create a dvd studio pro project template where I can make different DVDs, all with the same format and menus, just by replacing the video tracks on the disk with new ones. For instance I'd have a folder with my video source:
    track.01.m2v
    track.02.m2v
    track.10.m2v
And I have a dvd studio pro project where menus are all layed out for thos tracks. I'd like to make a new DVD just by replacing track.01.m2v,... with different files.
However when I do this, DVD studio pro gets the start and end points for the new tracks wrong (it keeps the start and end points of the old tracks). When I delete the video clips for the tracks and replace them, they are right, but I'd like to streamline this as I often have 60+ tracks.
Any one else out there creating project templates like this? Is this even possible (I can't find documentation on it).
    Thanks!
    --Jennifer

    as you have described: no
DVDsp project file stores the length video on its tracks and does not refresh it when new assets are detected, so you end up needing to drag the end of each video file to stretch it to the length of the replacement asset.
What I havent tried, and may be worth an attemp, is to see how DVDsp responds when the replacement asset is shorter in length than the original. perhaps then DVDSP will refresh the video track accordingly. If this is the case you could then use videos of black, named 1.m2v, 2.m2v, etc and make sure all of their lengths is longer than any video you could possibly replace it with.
If that doesnt work, i suggest creating the project with empty video tracks and saving that. Everytime you start a new project open up that template, save as a different name, and drag all of the new m2vs into the empty video tracks.

  • Creating trimmed projects

Is anyone having issues creating trimmed projects with merged media?
I am getting this error-"An unkown error occurred during the Project Manager operation."
When i replace the merged clips in the sequence with the original clips everything works fine.
    thanks

I can only describe how I have created this integration. I have a script that is creating folders based on assignments (from another database application) in our business. The folder names are assignment numbers. FCS is watching this location and creating production containers for each of these folders. I take this a step further and the script is copying an empty .fcp file into each of these folders. FCS is recursively going a level deeper into each of these folders, and will actually ingest the .fcp file (and apply meta-data via xml via the asset ID if I wish). So when the video editor goes to the production container to start on the project. He/she just has to drag the fcp file into their editor, drag the videos in, and either upload back, or save it.
