Aperture 3.3 update hangs at 10/10 (or 7/7) at 94%

I updated my Aperture on my Mac Pro (with the latest OS X) to 3.3 via the App Store, and the update progressed with no problems to the phase 10/10, where it just stopped at 94%. The program was responding, ie. when I right-clicked the icon in the Dock, it didn't offer me Force Quit, but nothing happened, and I didn't hear any hard drive activity. I force quit it after waiting for a while, and tried again. Now there were only seven phases to the update, but it again got stuck to 7/7 at 94%. I left it to that for a few hours, but nothing happened. Any way I can get over or around this? I have some 14 000 photos in the collection, so it's largish, but this doesn't seem like giving it more time would fix the issue.

Hello Vorna
I experienced  almost exactly the same with the 3.3 update :  it just hung at 99% - so I shut down and restarted :  the update had definitely failed.  I decided to do a clean re-install of the complete Aperture App from the App Store to see if that would work - and it did !!!   Just Fine !!!   During the install routine it told me there were some inconsistencies in the Aperture database - these I am sure had been lurking there for some considerable time.  The routine completely rebuilt the database and all works fine now !!!
Hope this suggestion works for you.  You should be given the option of "install" from your Apps in the " purchases" panel of Apps application in the dock.  You will not have to pay for the re-install.
Good Luck
William

Find the old Aperture library in the Finder and double click it to launch Aperture with that library set to the default.
And check your caps look key.  It appears to be stuck.

  • Aperture does not update a photo preview after editing in external editor

I have noticed this problem after installing the last Aperture (3.2.3) update. It appears to be common to my Mac Pro and Mac Book Pro. The updated preview is visible only in "viewer" mode (menu / view / viewer). It's interesting, that updated preview appears in "viewer" mode on both displays (I use two monitors). And when I switch into "split view" the preview switch also and is not updated.
After relaunching Aperture previews are updated.
The thumbnail looks to be good (updated). This problem makes my work really uncomfortable.

This seems to be a bug, and has been discussed in several threads. See this workaround suggested by shuttersp33d: This helped me Re: saving from photoshop

  • HT6114 I want to re-install Aperture and make updates to Final Cut Pro on my MAC ?

I want to re-install Aperture and to update my Final Cut Pro software, but when I go to install or update I get an error message saying I need to install the latest version of MAC OS X 10.9.  I currently have version 10.7.5 installed but when I go to do a software update it tells me that my OS X software is up to date.
What do I need to do to fix this problem?

Download Mavericks via the App Store.

  • 27" imac yosemite update hangs. Required power cycle and safe boot to get the update going. Now all OS X update do the same.

    27" iMac Yosemite update hangs.
The original upgrade to Yosemite (10.10) took almost a full day! The computer hung during one of the reboots and just showed a blank grey screen, no apple logo, no progress bar, nothing. I left it like that for about an hour thinking it might be working in the dark... Eventually I had to power cycle. Disconnected power at the wall outlet for about 5 minutes, then reconnected and tried to start. After about 20 minutes, got to the same point, grey screen:no action, again waited at least an hour.
Then I did a safe boot. System came up OK in safe mode to the log in screen. As soon as I logged in, it proceeded with the interrupted update, which ran to completion. Yay!
Now, every update to Yosemite that arrives gives men the same grief!
To add some more, the "Pro Video Formats 2.0.1" update has installed about 4 times, and is asking to be installed again? There's no indication that it fails the update so whats going on?

I saw the set hibernet mode to 0 trick and it failed.  Guess I can try 3 because reinstalling OS X did nothing but cost me another few hours and a little faith in Apple.  Getting annoyed as I see how many people complain of the identical issue and the fixes are variable and random.  Suggests to me that it is a major design flaw in the hardware and Apple got too cute with the just works idea and didn't put a damned power button on the display so there is no manual way to do it and no 'insert a pin here' type trick to reset the thing.
Asking for a refund tomorrow.  Past the 14 days so maybe they'll say no but if so then every time this happens I will swap it out.  At least then I know it is a three hour fix and as I was working on this for hours today it occurred to me that if the trick is to do 57 different things and maybe one will work then that is not why I made the switch to Apple.  I could plug everything in on my PC and it all 'just worked'.
Really poor customer service - the support folks are very nice and I am sure they know that this is a systemic issue but aren't allowed to say so.  Feeling pretty stupid for going on faith right about now.

  • Aperture won't update from 2.1.2 to 2.4

I've downloaded the Aperture 2.4 update two times, but it doesn't seem to update after my computer is restarted. It still says that I'm running version 2.1.2. When I select Apple>Software Update, it indicates that all my software has been updated.
I'm trying to get the 2.4 update because I need Aperture to accept my Canon 50D RAW files.
Anyone else have this problem or have a solution?

I think you are confusing the +Digital Camera Raw Compatibility Update 2.4+ with a new version of Aperture.
The latest version of Aperture is still 2.1.2.
The raw compatibility update will not change the Aperture version. The raw converter update is independent of Aperture and can be installed even if you do not have Aperture installed. Raw files can be viewed in the Preview application - and the raw update covers this functionality too.

  • Update hangs

    Hi all,
I'm using Oralce 8.1.7.4 and I have a problem with this UPDATE statement:
    SQL> update pti_opere
    set utente_upd = 'admin'
    where cod_azienda = 1 AND numero_opera = 63 AND anno_triennio = 2007
    The update hangs
    Instead:
    SQL> update pti_opere
    set utente_upd = 'admin'
    where cod_azienda = 1 AND numero_opera = 51 and anno_triennio = 2002;
    1 rows Updated
There are no trigger enabled on pti_opere
SQL Statement which produced this data:
    select cod_azienda, numero_opera, anno_triennio,
    fl_storicizzato, utente_upd, data_upd
    from pti_opere
    where (cod_azienda = 1 AND numero_opera = 63 AND anno_triennio = 2007)
    or
    (cod_azienda = 1 AND numero_opera = 51 and anno_triennio = 2002)
    COD_AZIENDA     NUMERO_OPERA     ANNO_TRIENNIO     FL_STORICIZZATO     UTENTE_UPD     DATA_UPD
    1     51     2002     S     admin     03/11/2054
    1     63     2007     null     admin     06/09/2004 15.10.16
    What could be the issue?
    Any advice will be appreciated.
    Kind Regards

First thing that came to my mind: What if someone locks the record you're trying to update?
Try a SELECT ... FOR UPDATE NOWAIT statement to check if that's the case.

  • Aperture 3.6 update for Yosemite is out!

    Check the software update!
    Also iPhoto 9.6.

First observations with Aperture 3.6 on Yosemite:
There is a lot of initial background processing going on each launch: face detection, preview creation, syncing with iCloud.
I don't see any changes to the graphical user interface.
My Canon EOS 5D Mk II raw files and the Lumix FZ28 DNG files are looking very different now.  The colors are more vibrant and the images are brighter; I'd even say overexposed.
The changed RAW processing is surprising, since the release notes do not mention it:   Aperture 3.6 Release notes
    Aperture 3.6 Update
Adds compatibility with OS X Yosemite.
Fixes an issue that could cause Aperture performance to slow down while browsing through images with onscreen proofing enabled.
Fixes an issue where Aperture could become unresponsive in rare cases when adding to a shared photo stream.
Fixes an issue that could cause Aperture to unexpectedly quit when using the Write IPTC Metadata to Originals feature.
Aperture no longer displays the alert, “This library has been opened with a newer version of Aperture.” when using Library First Aid with libraries previously opened in iPhoto.

  • Aperture 3.3 update?

How does one get the Aperture 3.3 update? I own Aperture 3, but when I run software Update, nothing comes back for Aperture. I currently have 3.2.4 installed on a MacBook Pro running OS 10.6.8.

    I was afraid of that!
Can't you run Lion on your mac, because of older hardware, or do you need Snow Leopard for older applications and device drivers? I partitioned my system drive  and installed SL in one smaller partition, so that I still can run my apps and device drivers that need rosetta to run.

  • Reinstall Aperture 3 from update disk

I have installed Aperture 3 from update disk and have worked though most of the problems by shutting off some of the features and patience with the processing. However I am concerned about the need for a fresh reinstall at some point which would first involve removing current Aperture 3 application. The update disk requires a prior Aperture application. Aperture 2 is gone except in receipts and Time Machine. Any thoughts would be helpful. Thanks Carl

Carl, I was told that I could install Aperture 3 from upgrade disc even though I had trashed A2,since my A2 registration was still on Mac and if not I would be asked for it. My reinstallation went through without a moments hesitation and no numbers were required.
    good luck,
