Aperture 3.4.3 Red Eye

Is anyone still having issues applying red eye fix to photos?  I've read through a few posts and tried the reprocess master but nothing seems to work.  I've downloaded updates and red eye reticle doesn't work.  Any suggestions?

The redeye fix will remove red eyes, not white eyes - it is recognizing the red retina illuminated by the flashlight, as seen through the wide open pupil. It does not remove white, specular highlights from the eyes.
To get rid of specular reflection - white spots - brush in saturation and less intensity.

  • Auto Fix Red-Eye in Aperture?

    Hello,
I'm a newbie to Aperture and I was just trying to figure out where in Aperture can I fix red-eye automatically [similar to how it is done in iPhoto 11]? I realize that I can fix the red eyes manually, but is there a simple button that I can push that will automatically fix the red eyes in a photograph? This feature is really nice in iPhoto 11 as it will fix 99% of the red-eyes, etc. Just hoping there is a similar feature in Aperture.
    Thanks for your help!!!

Thanks for the response Frank. I was afraid that this may be the answer. No issue, I'm just surprised that it's not available especially with all the bells and whistles that Aperture offers.
    Thanks again for your help!

  • Aperture makes eye purple with Red Eye Correction tool. Why? Bug?

    http://www.hvmediasolutions.com/images/picture1.png
As you can see with the above picture, Aperture does not do red eye well. iPhoto gets it right, actually as well as Photoshop CS4.
Any suggestions? Or is this a bug?
And yes I could use Photoshop every time, but I am trying to do as much as I can in Aperture.
    Thanks,
    Ed

I have an old camera, Nikon Cool Pix 3100 and save my photos to .jpg. Yes I know, time to upgrade.
    I capture straight into Aperture.
The thing that bugs me, iPhoto 08 gets it right, better than Photoshop. Aperture, since version 1, has always given me purple red eye cast on both Intel and Power PC Mac Book Pro's. Since iPhoto can get it right, Aperture should be able to.
Currently I use Pixelmator and desaturate with the brush tool for the best results.
By the way Lightroom 2 desaturates the eye to a light grey with it's red eye tool.
Different results with 4 different applications. I would love to just use one.

  • Aperture and Red Eye Removal

Is there a way to reduce the size of the white eye after removing red eye from one's photos?  Aperture does a good job of removing the red eye area but leaves a rather large white shining ring for the iris in my photos.  How do I reduce the size of the iris?

The Radius is in pixels.  3 is very very very small.  The "Red Eye target overlay" -- that's the official name -- should cover the entire iris, and all of the red you wish to remove (desaturate) should be within the yellow circle.
    Is that what you're doing?
It is often helpful to zoom in to the eyes when using the Red Eye tool.
As a reference, full directions are in the User Manual.

  • Aperture Red Eye Adjustments do not show up in preview

I generally use the zoom viewer to make my red eye adjustments; however, when I'm done adjusting and I zoom out, the viewer doesn't reflect the red-eye adjustments. Sometimes the adjustment on one eye will look correct but the other eye is still partially or completely red. When zooming back in, it looks correct.
I recently switched from iPhoto and had never seen this kind of behavior.
Any help would be appreciated, it's driving me kind of nuts.

In List or Grid, the image as you note is generated from the Thumbnail. The Viewer image starts as the Thumbnail blown up and ugly, then the Preview jpg image kicks in. Finally the rendered master/version with all adjustments should replace the Preview. I say should as it might be possible in your case the Preview is not being replaced. Worth checking.

  • Red eye still purple in Aperture 3. iPhoto 09 much better.

    Subject says it all.

I'm having the same issue here. I don't use iPhoto, but just moved from A2 to A3. Non of my existing red eye adjustments appear to work, and I can't get the tool to work at all on any images. This is very frustrating, asnd hopefully fixed in a patch. A2 red eye tool worked perfectly.

  • Red eye correction generating strange grid pattern in viewer

    Hi everyone,
For the last week Aperture 3.5.1 has been adding a strange grid with a repeating pattern in my images when I edit them in the viewer.  Here is a screenshot:
The strange pattern is near the top right and appears to be of my son's eye. The pattern appears in multiple images and always seems to be one of the eyes of the subject! It occurs when I use the red eye correction.
If I toggle off certain adjustments, not just the red-eye adjustment, the pattern goes away. However, once I turn on certain adjustments the pattern returns or moves to another part of the screen! If I do turn off red eye correction the grid goes away.
    So let me summarize here:
If I use red eye correction and I use ANY other adjustments then I will get the strange eye grid.
It appears if I don't use the red eye correction the eye grid does not appear.
I have tried repairing permissions, repairing the library, rebuilding the database, and reinstalling Aperture. I've also tried moving the library to another mac and I can replicate the issue on that mac as well, however, not as often? I also downloaded memtest and ran it on my mac and it said all my ram is fine. I have also tried shortening my library and I can duplicate the issue in a small library with few pictures.
I'd really like to use the red eye correction without the strange grid! When I export the images the grid does not appear.
I am using a Mac Pro mid 2010 with 14 gig of memory. The second machine I tried is a macbook pro laptop using 8 gig. I'm really at a loss here. Please help! Thanks again

Sounds like you have done everything but delete your user preferences.  This often resolves UI issues.
Details are on Apple's Aperture trouble-shooting page.

  • Glow eye versus the RED eye

Why isn't anyone talking about the GLOW eye or white eye that the iPhone 4 gives off, it's not a RED EYE, and it happens a lot! So if this new feature is supp to fix the RED EYE will it ALSO fix this GLOW EYE white thingy that shows up when using the flash? It's most annoying and if this new update fixes this on BOTH  i repeat on BOTH someone please let me know!

hmm... yeah, I'm not being very specific. Red, white, glow. Guess I'm not sure which is which. I have a pic of my cat who's eyes are shining like green LEDs - I'm guessing this what you mean by glow eye:
Red eye is red eye. No question there.
What I saw from the iphone photo, which I thought you were referring to originally, looked kind of pale and could not be removed properly with the aperture red eye tool but was cleaned up nicely in the iphone with it's own red eye tool.

  • Problems with previously applied red eye corrections

I imported my Aperture 2 library and see that some images that had red eye correction before aren't corrected in AP3. It isn't universal and sometimes one person's eye would be corrected while the other would be red, even though the adjustments indicated both had been corrected.
    Anyone else see this?

Me, too. I tried reapplying the red eye on a couple of pictures. After I clicked on the red eye tool, my previous red eye corrections appeared as the target icons on the pictures, but the red eyes didn't get corrected. There doesn't seem to be any way I can correct them, now.

  • Improving Red Eye Correction

I read this thread http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=6517094&#6517094 that talked about a trick w/red eye correction in iPhoto 6.
In eye photo 7 they've now included a "size" option in both retouch and red eye. Very cool. But, there's still no intensity control (like in Aperture 2). Does anyone know any "secrets" to getting intensity control on red eye or retouch? I tried the key strokes in the thread above for iPhoto6, but they don't seem to work now for iPhoto 7 (i.e. iPhoto 08)

That feature has been removed. A good feature suggestion via http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphoto.html. I have found that using the Retouch tool over the redeye correction can reduce the intensity of the correction. I set the tool to the same size as the correction and applied just once. It seemed to help the really black eyes that sometimes occur.

  • Inspector - Library Layout user control and Batch Red Eye

    Hey guys...
3 days into using Aperture for first time...
    2 Questions:
    1) Is there a way to organize the Library Tree? Currently, everytime I add/create a folder it places it further down the tree. But some I want to move up the tree.
For example, right now I have following layout:
    Projects & Albums
    Library Albums
    * or better
    Rejected
    etc, etc
    2010 <Folder>
    NYE 2010 <Project>
    2009 <Folder>
    Christmas 2009 <Project>
    Thanksgiving 2009 <Project>
If I create another Folder, say "Misc", it places it under folder labled "2009". Yet, i want to drag that folder up so that it's at the top above 2010. Dragging the folder only allows me to drop it into another folder or Project, not before or after.
How do I customize my folder tree, this has to be possible.
    2nd questions:
I am a Picasa convert. One thing I was able to do with Picasa was it would search the photo for red eye (when u asked it to look), then auto-fix it as preview with option to save red fix if satisfied. This made for a very fast red correction. In Aperture, it appears I have to manualy "circle" each individual red eye for edit to take effect.. ??? Is there a batch option? 1 eye at a time is very time consuming.
    Thanks!

Nope...dosent work. Allows you to move Folders but only to move them "into" another existing Folder or "Project".
**Edit: Nevermind, I think I got it....you have to have surgeon hands to place folder very very specifically...a little to right or left and it will drop it in a completely different part of the tree.

  • Red eye tool problem CS 6

The red eye tool is not working properly.  I started many years ago with Elements, then CS2, CS4, and now CS 6.  I have never had a problem prior to CS 6.  No matter what settings I use, the tool is darkening other parts of the image than the red eye.  Either that  or leaving a huge black eye.

it is the same with different pictures. If I would send the original picture, it doesn't matter, because the artifact would not be there after exporting.
To clarify the problem (excuse my poor english):
If I use the red-eye-correction in aperture there will be a black square around the pupil, but only in aperture. If I export the picture, the square will disappear - red-eye-correction has worked well. (The picture I send is a screen shot).
If I remove the red-eye-correction, the square disappears.
Even more strange: If I change to fullscreen, the square disappears, back to smaller size it come back.
Nobody can reproduce this? (MacBook 2Ghz, 2Gb, OSX 10.4.7, Aperture 1.1.2)
    Thanks, Frank

  • Red eye tool not working

Since I reinstalled Aperture 3 on my new iMac, I cannot get the red eye tool to work. I get the circles around the eyes, but nothing happens... I looked for settings or something, but found nothing to solve my problem...

Yes, I am using the right tool. I have been using this tool in Aperture for a long time. In fact, it works fine on my older iMac. I imported the same photo in both iMacs. It corrects fine on my old iMac (2008), but it does nothing on my new 2013 iMac.
Both are running the same version of Aperture (3.5) and both systems are also running on Mavericks.
I noticed a difference in the build of the digital camera RAW, but I would be surprised that that would influence a feature like the red eye tool...

  • Ofoto - red eye

When I upload my pictures to ofoto after I made enhancements for red eye, the picture in apperture looks fine but the ofoto picture still has the red eye. Any help?

    Of course.
Aperture is huge, complex, and powerful.  Even the basics will require some time on your part to master.
The first seven chapters of the User Manual are a must-read.  It is also available as a local copy on your computer from Aperture's Help menu.
You might also work your way through the "Exploring Aperture (PDF)" tutorial (also available from the Help menu).
Here is my super-concise "Well-trod Path", which I penned as an even easier way for users get started.
Once you commit an Image file to Aperture, you should use Aperture and only Aperture for management of the Image in Aperture and the file (now a Master) on your storage drive.

  • Red Eye file transfer

I am having a hard time transferring a file out of my library with the red eye corrections. Original photo is raw. I have tried a few other adjustments that have worked fine when exporting. I generally export out to jpeg. I tried tiff as well to see if it would make a difference. I have tried exporting version and master.
On a separate note. I transfer because I can not find anyone that will print RAW. Is there any online site that will print RAW files?
Thanks for your help. First time to ever post anything.

RAW files exported out of Aperture will not show any corrections you have made.
Export as JPEG or TIFF when you want to send to a lab for print.
