Changes made to the Aperture library are now more reliably reflected in the iLife Media Browser.
Two fingered scroll now works in the To field of the Shared Photo Stream dialog.
Addresses an issue with library upgrades that could cause Aperture to incorrectly display a dialog stating "To open this iPhoto library in Aperture, it first needs to be upgraded."
Resolves an issue that could prevent images captured from a tethered camera to a user’s Pictures folder from being written to disk on computers with OS X Lion v10.7.5.
Nikon P7700 RAW images are now displayed correctly in the Import window.
The eyedropper for the Color tool now works correctly when you select either the Crop or Straighten tool in the Toolbar.
Thumbnails with version names longer than 250 characters are now displayed correctly.
This update also addresses stability issues that could cause Aperture to quit unexpectedly in the following cases:
Moving photos from one project to another
Uploading photos to Photo Stream
Attempting to access a vault
Connecting a second display to a computer while in Sleep mode, and then waking it from sleep
This update also addresses stability issues that could cause Aperture to become unresponsive in the following cases:
After canceling a print job
When adjusting white balance

  • Help! my Aperture help menu is grayed out

I'm just getting my brand new Mac Pro set up, moving from a 2 1/2 year old Macbook. I have a long unsolved problem of having several libraries and their related vaults crashing, rendering inaccessible about 15,000 referenced images and their vaults. Typically what happens is that an Aperture library I've been using for a while quits almost instantly after opening, and the library's vault(s) can't be accessed at all. I've spent perhaps 30 1 To 1 training hours and many hours on the phone with appl care on this problem, and I'm very grateful for all their devoted effort, but we haven't had any luck understanding, much less solving, this problem.
The first time it happened, the library had 6 gigs of images in it from a weekend of shooting. I thought that having 6GBs free (of 55) might have something to do with it, but it kept happening to later libraries even after there were 25 GBs free. With each new library it seemed they would crash at a smaller size, even 1-2 GBs. So my strategy evolved into creating new libraries every few days so they wouldn't crash.
Has anyone had a similar problem and fixed it? Generally most of the folks helping me don't seem to think it's a computer problem, or a software problem, for that matter. Some think my camera (Nikon D70) might have been sending out an occasional corrupted image, but the crashes have continued with a Nikon D 300 I bought new a month ago, making that theory seem very untenable. I'm hoping that using the beastly Mac Pro will help with at least part of the problem. I needed it anyway because my shooting has become pretty high volume recently (3,000 12 MB images per week).
Any suggestions on a fix or a strategy for importing this mess into the Mac Pro? It sounds like the safest way to import is by project. I have about 20 libraries, about 5 of which are crashed, and about 100 projects. I'd really like to have the recommended 1-3 libraries, but it's pretty daunting to think of losing all my metadata and edits to a single crash.... Thanks for your interest.

My above Question should read: "_Several Libraries Quit upon Opening and their Vaults cannot be Accessed_".
(the grayed-out help menu problem was solved by re-launching Aperture.)

  • Aperture 2: Adjustments suddenly grayed out

Some help for an Aperture noob please. Subject line says it all about the symptoms so I guess I need to describe how I got myself into this fine mess:
    1. Imported some photos (taken with an Olympus E-510), selecting to leave the photos where they are rather than physically importing them.
    2. Played about with Apertures raw adjustment settings on some of these photos.
    3. Exported the photos I'd played with to directory on my Mac.
    4. Created a small .me gallery and published.
I think it was after step 4 that my problems started. All the adjustments (i.e. exposure, white balance, shadows/highlights and so on) are now grayed out, for all projects. Oddly, I can undo and redo all adjustments on a previously edited photo but I cannot select any individual adjustment.
Note: This is a trial copy of Aperture. Where did I go wrong?
    Regards
    J

I experience this, from time to time, and normally I only need to again click on the thumbnail in the Browser line to have the controls turn black again. I will have to better observe the sequence of actions, but I don't think my situation has anything to do with switching into Preview mode.

  • Aperture 3.4.1 Zoom out at 25% not working

    Hi,
I just remarked that the Zoom Out at 25% with Aperture 3.4.1 doesn't work any more...the maximum Zoom Out is now fixed to the size
of the window. I'm pretty sure that this worked on Aperture 3.4 though.
While not a big problem, I like to view my photos at smaller size, to see how they look like on small printouts.
Does someone have the same issue with Zoom Out with Aperture 3.4.1?
    Cheers,
    Gilles

I could not get to work since Aperture 3.4 either. Zoom out now seems to stop, when the image fills the window.
As a work-around, select more than one image in full screen mode, and you can zoom out to 25%.
Or put the image on a Light-Table; then you can zoom out to really small thumbnail sizes.
    Regards
    Léonie
Four image in Full screen view selected, zoomed in out differently (25%, 25%, 100%, 200%), for example:

  • Will Aperture allow me to drop out backgrounds?

The main reason that I use PSE is to drop out backgrounds on pictures. Does Aperture have this function and does it work on layers?
I downloaded the trial version but have not installed it yet.
    Thanks

No, it does not. That is definitely a Photoshop feature (none of the RAW workflow programs have this type of editing--Lightroom, Canon or Nikons programs, Capture One, etc.)
    Cheers-

  • Aperture update 3.3 bombing out

I have just updated my library to 3.3, but it bombs out every time I open it. I have done all the usual things to try and fix it by rebuilding the database etc., I deleted the plist files, and I have even reinstalled the update, but nothing helps. Please can someone give me some advice? The program bombs out within seconds from opening it up.

    @iBuzz, lBaraza,
if the crash seems to be system specific, then you need to start your own thread, because we have will have to interview you for details of your system. This is very confusing, if we have to keep track of three different setup´s and sort them mentally in one thread - it will be easy to make mistakes this way
    @ Heinrich van den Berg
Any news? Does Aperture start with the Shift key held down?  If not, please post a crash log.
Just in case the crash log mentions the "PluginManager.framework" the safest way would be to reinstall the operating system; this framework usually causes this kind of trouble after an installation of Final Cut.

  • Why are Aperture Add Effect options grayed out?

Hello. I just bought a new iMac and moved all my data in from a Time Capsule. I frequently select "all images" and use the Quick Fixes option within Add Effect under the photos tab on the top left corner of the screen to run a batch process. But now when I try it all of the options are grayed out. I can highlight a couple of images and the option is available where normally running a batch is a non-issue. Thanks in advance for any ideas and help.

But now when I try it all of the options are grayed out.
Are all Adjustments greyed out, or only the effects in the in the "Effects > Quick Fixes" menu? And does it only happen, when you are trying to adjust more than one image?
Check these possible reasons for disabled adjustments:
Are you in Quick Preview mode? Then no adjustments will be available at all.
If the Quick Preview button is highlighted, disable it.
Do you have "Primary only" enabled? (the framed "1" button to the left of the Quick Preview button). Then deselect it.
Hello. I just bought a new iMac and moved all my data in from a Time Capsule.
How did you restore from your Time Capsule?
Are your images showing any "arrow" badges?

  • MBP 15 inch i7 running APERTURE runs EXTREMEMLY SLOW right out of the box!!

here's the gist of the situation.
brand new 15inch i7 with 4 gigs of ram and high-res display and aperture pre-installed. The laptop is blazing fast UNTIL I open aperture.
I only had safari with google and aperture open. Even with absolutely no pictures open, or projects, or RAW file conversions it brings this hercules of a laptop down to the speeds of an old windows 95 machine.
I thought the problem was possibly the the new graphics switching, so i turned it off. It makes little to no difference.
I seriously can't click on FILE without waiting 15 seconds before ANYTHING happens, and then I get a spinning rainbow curser for about 2 minutes! Then it finally opens the file menu...
This is very upsetting considering I need use this software heavily in my work.
    Any suggestions????
    Much thanks for any suggestions.

Thanks a lot! what you said is partially true. right after posting this i realized that the removable hard drive I have plugged in is formatted for, and has been used on a windows xp machine up until now.
beyond aperture running slowly, the entire computer was running slow if I clicked on anything more than once, if it didn't open the first time.
The moment I unplugged the hard drive (which was synced to aperture) the computer began to run like the mac OS that I love.
    Thank you for your time!

  • HT4007 What if I buy Aperture 3 now and Aperture 4 or X comes out soon after?

Read great reviews on Aperture 3, but also understand that a new version is soon to be released.  Don't wish to invest $$$ if a new version is around the corner.

Only Apple knows the answer to that one and we are just users here.
The fact that Aperture is now being delivered by Apple via the Mac App Store at a considerably lower price than many of us paid for it before the MAS, it may be that Apple will no longer offer upgrade pricing and just release a new version beyond AP 3 at one price as a full product.
In other words, you might have to pay full price for both AP 3 and a new product AP 4 or X if it is released.

  • Is Aperture on its way out or should i buy it ?

I read somewhere that aperture is on its way out and there will be no more development ? Is that true ?

Aperture will still be supported and updated to work with the next MacOS X version Yosemite, but yes, Apple will not release a new Aperture version. Both, Aperture and iPhoto will be replaced by a new application "Photos", to be released next year. Apple will support the migration of Aperture libraries and iPhoto libraries to "Photos".

  • Help! Aperture 3.0.1 Crashing - at end of my rope!

OK - I am at the end of my rope and my problem solving ability. I have an Aperture library with a little under 9,000 images - almost all referenced on an external hard drive (connected via FireWire).
I bought Aperture 3 when it came out (boxed upgrade version). I upgraded from 2.5 (which was causing no trouble). But after upgrading to Aperture 3 (with no problems) Aperture will crash every time I open it... unless I open Aperture without the external drive plugged in, then once Aperture is open, plug in the external drive. Sometimes it crashes right away, sometimes it takes a minute or so. But if I open Aperture with the external drive attached it will crash every time.
    Here's what I've tried:
    - Upgraded to 3.0.1 - no help
    - run in 32 bit mode - no help
    - run repair disk (disk utility) on main drive - no errors - no help
    - repair permissions - no help
    - run repair disk (disk utility) on external drive with referenced files - no errors - no help
    - move referenced files to another external drive - no help
    - move aperture library to another external drive - no help
    - switched external drives among three drives - no help
    - run Aperture's repair permissions - no help
    - run Aperture's Repair Database - several times never got past 0%, twice did finish - no errors - no help
    - run Aperture's Rebuild Database - once finished no errors no help - once never finished - no help
    - move Aperture library to external drive and try to consolidate library - didn't finish - no help
    - Force update previews for all files - no help
    - trashed all preferences - no help
    - trashed preference file Apple recommends to re-enter serial numbers - reentered ver 2 and ver 3 serial numbers - no help
    - trashed all plug ins - no help
    - turned off Faces feature - no help
Here is PART of the crash log from the last time it crashed - when I try to post the whole thing I get an error. I am totally out of ideas, and I am really tired of messing around with this after a week. At this point I'd even try waiving dead chickens over my Macbook Pro! Please, please help! Thank you.

At last a SOLUTION!! (more or less)
I spoke with Apple this afternoon and learned two important pieces of information.
    1. The "processing" that happens when I begin Aperture with the external drive attached holding my referenced image files (which would stop and crash Aperture) is Aperture checking every file in order to use it with Brushes. The Apple rep said the Quartz/video card?? system analyzes every pixel in order to set things up for the Brushes system (and that system was crashing).
    2. To stop Aperture from doing this "processing" when you begin Aperture (if it hasn't already been done) open Aperture while holding down the Shift key. This process I think is only done once when your importing images for the first time (or upgrading the database/program).
Once I relayed to Apple what I had already done, and once I understood what was happening, things made a little more sense. One or more files was apparently "corrupted" and was causing the system to crash. So how to determine which? Unfortunately there is no way to determine by the crash log. You have to find it by the process of elimination(!).
For me, I already knew which project and which set of albums had the problem (see my posting above). That still left over 1,000 images. So I took the project and exported it out four times. Then one at a time opened these libraries (holding down the Shift key) and deleted files/emptied trash on each so that in each library I had about 1/4 of the images (first one with the first 1/4, next one with the next 1/4 and so on). Again, each time remembering to hold down the shift key while opening and deleting the excess images.
Once this is done open them one at a time and see which one crashes. Note the images in the one that crashes. Delete all the library copies and redo the above process on the images included in the library that crashed. *And being REALLY sure I had multiple backups of my library on other drives in case things went terribly wrong or I deleted things in the wrong library.*
EVENTUALLY I whittled it down to three versions of an image that I had edited considerably in Aperture (I had a LOT of spot/patch/retouch on them). So, back to the main library, open with shift key down, export out TIFFs of the corrupted versions (so I didn't lose the images) and delete them from the library (remembering to empty the trash). Close aperture, open (without holding the shift key) and IT WORKED!!
OK - so, I am very happy to have finally figured this out but this is FAR from a good solution. The process of resolving this took an enormous amount of time. And I was fortunate to have only 3 versions all of the same image causing trouble. If I had several images in several projects I am not sure I would live long enough to figure it out. Apple REALLY needs to implement a trap in their programming that either passes over images it has problems with or gives an error indicating which one or SOMETHING.
Anyway, I know there are many others who have reported similar problems - I feel your pain - and I hope this helps you.
Now, with all that finally over, I am off to enjoy what looks to be a very feature-rich program!

  • How do I get out of the fullscreen of death?

    Hi,
Hoping someone alse has experienced this and come up with a solution:
I've lost control of Aperture and don't know what to do. I'm running Aperture 3.3.2 and Mac OSX 10.7.5(11G56) on a 15 inch mid-2010 MBP.
I inadvertently pressed some combination of keys and here's where I am now. It's a black screen with just the Aperture toolbar popping in and out as I movet he mouse cursor to the top. Tool tips appear, but buttons are non responsive.
Pressing 'F' doesn't do any thing and I cannot press the double arrow button on the upper right to exit full screen. Left/right keys don't switch pictures as I'd expect. Only two keys provide response:
The [ESC] key brings me to a blank textil- textured screen where 'F' toggles between this and a screenfull of thumbnails.
The Aperture menu appears on the left part of this thumbnail screen(along with my widgets and the date, time and log in name on the right side), but is inaccessible(no mouse response). Only the widgets on the upper right of the menu bar react to mouse clicks.
'F' toggles between this and the first screen.
I can only get out of these screens by swiping four fingers to move to another desktop.
So how do I get out of this full screen of death?
    Hoping for a solution
    Fullscreened to death,
    Benny

    Benny,
Where do I find the plist file? It's not in HD/library/prferences?
you have to look in the user preferences, not the system preferences:
The user preferences are hidden by default; reveal them from the Finder's "Go" menu:
Quit Aperture, if it is running:
Open the user library by using the Finder's "Go > Go to Folder" menu and hold down the options-key, until "Library" appears in the drop down menu. Select it.
In the widow that will open, scroll down to "Preferences"
From the "Preferences" folder  remove "com.apple.Aperture.plist".
Then try to launch Aperture again.
    Regards
    Léonie

  • Aperture 3 trial version hangs and quits

I downloaded a trial version of Aperture 3 to try it out since I liked the added features. I currently use iPhoto. Everything went fine until I did the iPhoto import.
Now, every time I start Aperture, it either hangs and becomes unresponsive, or quits before fully opening, or one time opened, said processing, and then quit.
Another oddity is that my last import in iPhoto now contains a bunch of Aperture graphics and icons. Since I don't have a full serial number, and am not upgrading, I don't know if the other fixes about the serialization would be effective in my case.
Would love to try Aperture, but so far, no go.

So I tried downloading 3.0.1 trial that was supposed to fix the unexpected quitting problem. Nope. Still quits. I keep thinking it has something to do with the iPhoto import. Until I did that - or tried to do that, Aperture seemed fine.

  • Panasonic Lumex DMC-LX1 raw conversion for Aperture doesn't work.

I've seen many people having raw conversion problems. Direct import of Lumex raw files to Aperture does not work.
Adobe DNG conversion of raw to dng does not work.
    I'm running on Photoshop CS.
Perhaps my DNG conversion settings aren't right? Tell me what they should be.
Do I have to go as far as changing the raw.plist or whatever it's called.
Would CS2 with the Raw conversion Plug-in work instead?

    Joe,
good to see that you are reading these posts. I am sure that many users whose cameras' raw files are currently not supported by Aperture would love to help out in any way they can.
However, as we are living in a converging world, why doesn't Apple talk with Adobe and share some of the information used for RAW conversion? I'm thinking dcraw which (according to a note in its source code*) is using data provided by Adobe... and that same data is also contained in the Raw.plist.
Thus, if Adobe knows something and shares it with dcraw, and Apple uses some of the dcraw code (at least the m2 matrices found in Raw.plist are equal to the dcraw ones), why can't you guys all share the same information, and thus speed up RAW support for all cameras?
    Just a thought.
    Kindest regards,
    Karl

  • Aperture Not Working After Updating to OS 10.10.3

I have updated to the latest version of the OS and my legitimate copy of Aperture has been inoperable since the update. Apple has sent an email to everyone with a registered copy of Aperture stating that it still will work after the update but that is not the case. I feel lied to and I have about 200,000 photos across 7 Aperture libraries and this new "Photos" app lacks the professional tools that I need. I was going to transition to other options but I didn't feel the need to right away since they said it would be fine.
Is there some update patch I am missing? I would like to think they didn't abandon the few of us that use it and love the program for what it was. (See images below.)

What is your current Aperture version?
Shortly before the Mac OS X 10.10.3 update, Apple released the compatibility update to Aperture 3.6., that you need to install.
If your current Aperture version is Aperture 3.5.1,Aperture  should be showing at the AppStore on your Purchases tab.  If you are seeing Aperture there, move your crossed out Aperture application from the Applications folder to the Trash (but do not empty the Trash).
Then try to download and install Aperture from the Purchases tab of the AppStore.
