Aperture 3.4.5 crashes when building new Vault.

I'm using a Macbook Pro 17", and have used Aperture sucessfully since its inception. I'm using 2x 1Tb exernal HDs for my Library and Vault respectively, (nothing else on them).
Everything went well until I bought my Fuji X-Pro1 camera. Although we had to wait an eternity for compatibility, it eventually appeared. And so did the difficulties. The new version of Aperture won't run on Snow Leopard, which worked so well on my machine. So I updated to 10.8.4 to run Aperture, but of course losing Rosetta in the process. Then I installed the Aperture update, all seemed to go well, but it was unable to update Vault. No problem, I thought: delete Vault and rebuild it. So here I am with a blank 1Tb drive, new Vault setup, and a Library of around 800Gb to backup. Because I'm using a SATA card, it set off at a cracking pace, and all seemed well. Sadly not. Once it got to about 480Gb, it had slowed to a crawl, and eventually crashed. I'm totally at a loss as to what to do:, I've tried Permissions, Techtool, reformatting the drive, everything.
At present, it's been running for 36 hours and backed up 646Gb, which is further than it has got before... but I'm not holding my breath. When I look at Activity monitor, Aperture is using 1.77Gb of real memory, and an additional 2.6Gb of virtual memory. Since the machine is maxed out at 4Gb, I can't see why the program is using so much RAM, when it is basically just copying files.
As a professional photographer who works every day and wants to save my changes to Vault every day, this just isn't acceptable. I can use the clone feature in Techtool, but that's hardly the point, is it? Why clone an entire 800Gb, when I've shot two pictures and adjusted three others? Not exactly good for my business.
Any realistic help would be much appreciated.

Your error log does not help much - Aperture is not crashing, it is hanging. Waiting for an event that does not happen.
Has the vault that you cannot update been created by the same Aperture version? Is it a new vault, or a vault that could be updated before? Where is your vault located? What kind of drive (external? NAS?) And what kind of formatting?
As a test - can you create and update a vault for a new test Aperture library?
I hope somebody will jump in who can read hang reports. Crash reports are easier to read.
Regards
Léonie

  • Crashes when building previews

LR keeps crashing when I try to rebuild previews. I had an issue before where I didn't see any thumbnails in the "all photographs" view, and to fix that I created a new catalog. I was able to rebuild previews for several external discs, but one disc kept crashing LR. So I installed that disc internally in my Mac Pro. Still kept crashing on build previews. Then I transferred all the files to a brand new hard drive, still inside my Mac. Whenver I rebuild the previews, the scan completes, and then I get the spinning beach ball, and then crash.
I do have a bunch of crash reports if that helps.
I'm running LR 2.7 on a Mac Pro with OSX 10.6.3. 5GB memory. I've repaired disk permissions on startup disk, and ran DiskWarrior on startup disk as well as the discs that house my photos. I've also run Techtool. In the past I've had issues with LR crashing when building Web galleries.
I would really appreciate suggestions--I've been wresting with this for days and it's very frustrating. Thanks!

More trouble: there's a catalog I can't import. I keep getting an "unkown error." And when I start the import, I'm getting strange previews with backwards text (I'm pretty sure it's instructing me to take hallucinogenic drugs) see below.

Can you post the full crash log? Does it occur with a new libray?

  • SSMS crash when creating new database diagram

For several years I have been unable to create database diagrams from within SSMS.  I have tried every combination of VS2005, VS2008, VS2012 and VS2013 with every combination of SQL2005, SQL2008, SQL2012 and SQL2014.
I have installed, uninstalled, and repaired many dozens of times.  I am currently using VS2013 ultimate with SQL2014 express.
I have tried every related 'workaround' that I can find on the internet.  Still the problem persists.
Any help would be deeply appreciated.
Here are the relevant details with file versions:
In SSMS, I right-click on a database and choose New Database Diagram.  A Blank diagram window appears with the SSMS error dialog:

  • Full server pool crashes when adding new iSCSI server

    Hi,
we have a Pool Group with 2 machines (1 Server Pool Master + Server Virtual Machine + Utility Server and another 1 Server Virtual Machine). Both have a iSCSI Shared Disk which builds /OVS partition.
This is working, we can use High Availability, Migrate guests etc.
But when adding new Server Virtual Machines to the pool (with guests running), current machines in the Pools get restarted.
My question is, can server virtual machines be "hot added" to the pool group while guests are running?
    Thanks and regards,
    Marc

  • Aperture 2.1.4 crash when rating pictures since SL update

I seem to be having an issue with Aperture since performing the SL update. This issue seems to occur only when I'm rating pictures. Specifically, it always appears to crash when I'm either rejecting or deleting an image from the library. The crash seems to occur about 1 in 10 or 20 reject/delete operations. It's always the same thread that crashes - thread 23 (I have a large number of crash reports to prove it). I have only noticed this issue since upgrading to Snow Leopard. I've tried removing my plugins, which did not seem to fix the issue. Anyone have any experience with this problem?
Here's a snippet from the top of the most recent log:
    Process: Aperture \[343]

It seems to be at random. I haven't tested the same image repeatedly, but at the minimum it happens on multiple imports of images taken over multiple days.

  • Workshop 8.1 SP2 crashes when build webapp

    Hi,
    Help!
It keeps crashing when I try to build a webapp!
Anyone knows is there an error log that tells what happened?
    Thanks!
    Hai

    Raj,
I have since rolled back to SP1.
I will try SP2 now, and see if the problem still exists.
One possible reason it might be because of ClearCase view
    I used(local dynamic view).
Somehow generating a lot of files in .workshop directory
as view private files make the view corrupted.
    Thanks!

    Hello Hai,
Did you have any of the temporary files generated by Workshop open ?
    Can you
try a clean application and then build. Also can you verify that the
    both
the IDE and the server are on SP2 ?
Workshop version can be obtained from Help -> About Workshop
    Workshop - Version 8.1.2 (Build: 2003.1211.044125)
Server version can be obtained from the server log file or the command
window or by using the VERSION command.

  • Encore CS3 crashes when building to Flash (Windows)

I've built a project that has no problem burning a DVD or rendering an ISO image. However, when I try to author a Flash version of the project, it spends hours transcoding, then Encore CS3 crashes. (Generic Windows "Encore CS3 has encountered a problem and needs to close" error.) The only issue that shows up when checking the project is an orphan timeline, but it is linked into the project through playlists.
Any suggestions on how to create a flash version successfully?
    Specs:
    AMD Dual Core 4800+ (2.51Ghz)
    2 Gigs memory
    Windows XP SP3

I'm also having issues with Encore crashing all of the time. Whenever I try to build a flash file it crashes near the end. I have a few large videos in there and can build a flash file without the videos in, but why does it keep crashing when the videos are in.... I thought this is what this software is designed for!
Has anyone had any luck getting around their crashes?
To reduce the size of the videos what setting do you suggest changing?
Thanks and good luck to everyone else using Encore!
    Matt.

  • InDesign crashes when inserting new page(s)

I have a landscape document with facing pages. The origin was an Indd CS3 document opend with CS 5 and saved. I can move pages from one location to another but the attemt to insert one or two new pages will cause indd to crash. This is not a general problem this seems only to happen with this particular doc.
    indd CS5 (7.0.2) , win xp, sp 3

Ther have been reoprts of an apparent bug that causes crashes when insering pages based on masters with more than one column. If that's not your problem, try Remove minor corruption by exporting

  • InDesign CS5 crashes when saving new empty document.

It also crashes when printing, saving, resaving or exporting existing files. Many are converted files from Quark Xpress using Q2ID. Never had any problems until the past few weeks. Help!
I have renamed preference files and uninstalled and reinstalled five times. Still does it.

Best practice is to always export converted files to .idml immediately after the conversion, then open that and save as a new .indd. See Remove minor corruption by exporting

I guess then you'll have to delete everything related with Aperture (except the Library) and re-install it again, together with updates and then try importing.
I'd run a maintenace app like Onyx or Cocktail and restart the Mac before installing it.

  • RoboHelp 7 crashes when creating new project with files from VSS

RoboHelp crashes when I create a new project and choose to get existing files from Visual Source Safe to load into the project.  Does anyone have a solution to this problem or a suggestion as to why this may be happening?  I'm attaching the errors associated with the crashing.
Also, we have a very large Help system (985 topics) which compiles into a 46 MB chm file.  Is there a maximum suggested topic size (per topic) and a maximum suggested number of topics per project?  Could this be part of the reason RoboHelp is crashing?  We've always had a large Help system since we started using RoboHelp several years ago but the crashing is a more recent problem.
    Thanks,
    Carissa

I had the same issue then I found out all you have to do is to set the default view to List before opening any previous or new project and it worked, credit goes to this user below who found the solution.

I was able to resolve by workaround:
    1. Closed all open applications
    2. relaunch Finder
    3. run  sudo find / -name ".DS_Store"  -exec rm {} \;
    4. this removes all  .DS_Store old files on the computer
    5. launch finder and set default view to "LIST VIEW" as shown here:http://macs.about.com/od/usingyourmac/ss/Setting-Finder-Views-For-Folders-And-Su b-Folders_2.htm
    5. rerun the offending application and file chooser works

  • InDesign CS4 crashes when selecting New Color Swatch

Any idea why InDesign would be crashing when I select New Color Swatch?  I can Load Color Swatches or choose from the swatched in the menu, but if I try to add a new color it crashes no matter what type of document I am working on.

This is the sort of error, if happening in all files, that is usually fixed if you Replace Your Preferences

  • Crash when creating new file

illustrator crashes when creating a new file or opening existing - no special message. Just "illustrator has stopped working"
graphics drivers uptodate, tried uninstall, reinstall, tried cleaner, tried sign-out-of creative cloud, nothing works.
    running windows 8 64bit

If it works on another account, then pretty obviously your permissions are screwed on the other account and you need to fix them...
