Aperture 3.4.5 loading "erased" images

When I insert my Lexar CF 8GB card into the Samdisk reader, Aperture 3.4.5 will load some of the images that I just erased (formatted the camera) from my Nikon D200. I see one or two of the new photos, but that's it. When I try to load into the new version of iPhoto (9.5.1) NONE of the old photos appear, and ALL of the new photos appear just fine. What can I do to fix Aperture? Thanks.
<Email Edited By Host>

I tried Andy's suggestion before I read your reply. Tried importing with new images after "erase all" and reformatting the card. This time the import reads 5 of the old photos and none of the new. iPhoto reads all of the new and none of the old. Thanks for the help. I'm open to other suggestions. BTW, Aperture has always imported my new photos (until today), but I did notice that it has, in the past, occasionally read a few old photos that I had deleted, using the "Format" command on the D200. I don't have any presets that would exclude any images. It's exactly as it has been for the last year.
I tried it with two other CF cards. Here's a summary:
!st try: Aperture read a few old and some of the new images from both cards; iPhoto read all NEW images on both cards and NO old images.
2nd try: Aperture read ALL new images on both cards and NO old images. Same for iPhoto.
3rd try: Same for both Aperture and iPhoto
4th try: Same for both Aperture and iPhoto
I thought I had worked through the Aperture glitch, but then I tried inserting the 8GB card (the one with the original troubles). Aperture brought up 5 images FROM ONE OF THE OTHER CARDS! And NONE of the new images. iPhoto (and the Finder) see ONLY new images on this 8GB card. Any ideas?

  • Aperture 2.1 only loads 100 images per album to web gallery

    The web gallery project on Aperture contains 199 images but only the first 100 loaded. What gives? I've loaded albums before from iPhoto and didn't seem to have this problem, or if I did I never noticed it.
    Thanks,
    Mike T.

    Aperture 2.1.4 is unsupported on OS X Mavericks and there are known issues that have been reported here.
    I think you can roll back to an older OS X version (Snow Leopard?) or pay the $79.00 to upgrade to Aperture 3.5.1.

  • Aperture applying unwanted adjustments when loading an image

    Hello,
    I'm having a bit of an issue with Aperture and I'm wondering if the community can help me.
    My camera is a Canon Eos 600D.
    I'm running Aperture 3.4.3 on a Mid 2010 iMac 27", with 8GB of Ram.
    Just lately, when I import and load images into Aperture, it seems to be applying unwanted adjustments to the photos just after it completes loading them.
    Let me explain further:
    I take pictures on the camera. Previewing them on the Canon they look as I would expect, and I'm happy with them.
    I insert the SD card from the camera into the Mac, and Aperture previews/shows the thumbnails of my photos, and they look just like they did on the camera.
    I import them into a given library.
    When viewing the thumbnails of the imported images in the library, they look the same, so I double click one to load it fullscreen. The image appears fullscreen, looking exactly as it did on the camera, and Aperture pops the word 'Loading' at the top of the image.
    Them when it finishes 'Loading', it seems to apply some unwanted adjustments to the photo. Mostly it applies a yellow wash to the image, and in some cases, it radically adjusts the levels.
    See examples below:
    This was what the image looked like after it had loaded:
    And this is what it should have looked like (I had to edit it BACK to what it had looked like on the camera).
    I should note that once Aperture has seemingly applied these unwanted adjustments, there is no way to undo them - 'Revert to Original' does nothing as as far as Aperture is concerned, this is the original image.
    Again, notice what happens when I quick preview an image:
    But when I switch out of Quick Preview, these unwanted adjustments are applied:
    Please, can anyone help out with this - it's driving me crazy.
    Is there a way of seeing what Aperture might be doing/applying behind the scenes? I've checked Preferences but can't see anything obvious.
    Many thanks in advance.

    Are you shooting raw?
    Aperture is not doing any adjustments after import. Probably you have set your camera to do adjustments and you are using in-camera adjustment settings, like D-Lighting. These in-camera adjustments are reflected in the camera generated preview, that you are seeing when you are importing the image. After that, when you are opening the image, Aperture will create its own preview from the naked raw image. And that what you will see in the viewer. This preview shows exactly what your raw image is like, without any adjustments done by the camera. If you want the image processing results from the camera and not the original raw image as recorded by the camera from the sensor, import jpeg and not raw.
    See this discussion: TA24505 Why do d600 raw's look totally different than the jpg's that are imported together. When I select a raw, it looks as if it gets adjusted, but I can't figure out why...

    “Hi Kirby, thanks a lot for your answer.
    I got one answer, from DMoore, saying:
    “Try Safe boot and then restart with only Aperture open.  Still doent work write back with more details like Ram, HD capacity/free space.  Are these thumbnails or Previews? Have you turned off building previews in AP preferances?
    Safe boot   http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1564
    Starting up into Safe Mode does several things:
    1  It forces a directory check of the startup volume.
    2  It loads only required kernel extensions (some of the items in /System/Library/Extensions).
    3  In Mac OS X v10.3.9 or earlier, Safe Mode runs only Apple-installed startup items (such items may be installed either in /Library/StartupItems or in /System/Library/StartupItems; these are different than user-selected account login items).
    4  It disables all fonts other than those in /System/Library/Fonts (Mac OS X v10.4 or later).
    5  It moves to the Trash all font caches normally stored in /Library/Caches/com.apple.ATS/(uid)/ , where (uid) is a user ID number such as 501 (Mac OS X v10.4 or later).
    6  It disables all startup items and login items (Mac OS X v10.4 or later).
    7  Mac OS X v10.5.6 or later: A Safe Boot deletes the dynamic loader shared cache at (/var/db/dyld/). A cache with issues may cause a blue screen on startup, particularly after a Software Update. Restarting normally recreates this cache.”
    As I don’t know much about the technical aspects of computers, I don’t really understand the first answer, and it sounds like following it might produce unwanted changes.
    But I understand your questions, so I’ll try to answer them;
    "loading from any Project" means that I encounter the problem when I’m using a project, possibly after/because I’ve left the Mac on overnight, and/or  I’ve made a lot of adjustments, and, once the problem is there, it happens in any other project which I open – the images load then disappear.
    I can see images in the Browser, so it only happens in the Viewer(s).
    I’m afraid I don’t understand what you mean by: “If you select "Photos" from near the top of the Library tab of the Inspector, does it show you all of your Images?”. I am a newcomer to Aperture, so I don’t know what some of the buttons are for yet, but when I want to look at and adjust my pictures, I import them, as referenced images, then Aperture creates a folder/project in the Library. When I click on that Project (when it’s working properly), all the images appear in the Browser or the Viewers  – without me needing to “select Photos from near the top of the Library tab of the Inspector”. I selected it and looked at all the items in the dropdown menu, but none of them seems to offer the option to ‘show all the images’. So I’m not sure how to answer your question except to say that – yes, I can see all the pictures in the Browser or the Viewers (when it’s working properly), but I don’t seem to need to use the Photos button to achieve this.
    Did Aperture work before?
    Yes it worked ok for a while, but I only purchased it on 24th May.
    If I understand correctly, the difference between thumbnail and preview is that the thumbnail is what I see when the “Loading” wheel is turning, and the disappearance of this wheel after a few seconds means that I am now looking at the preview (also, the thumbnail cannot be adjusted).
    So I think the problem occurs when the thumbnail has finished loading; the viewer going blank/grey might mean that it is not showing the preview.
    But I have not changed the default Preview settings in Aperture Preferences.
    My macbookpro details:
    2.7 Ghz Intel Core i7
    Memory: 8 Gb 1333 MHz DDR3
    Hard Drive capacity 499.25 GB
    Available 387.36 GB
    I have noticed another problem: I cannot apply the same rating to multiple images: following the instructions, I select a group of contiguous (or non- contiguous) images, choose a selection eg “5stars” using the keyboard, but the stars only appear in the last selected image – even though all the images are still showing as selected.”
    I hope this helps you to understand more.
    Thank you for trying to help me.

  • How can i control what images load on my project to save preload time and avoid loading all images, elements, divs not yet visible?

    Sup buddies,
    How can I control what images load on my project to save preload time and avoid loading all images, elements, divs not yet visible?
    As the project grows in size the load time increases. How does one control not loading all images ,divs,elements etc. until they're
    needed on the timeline? For example some sections are off and only become visible when recalled. My projects slowly grow in size so loading
    all images , is counter productive . My other option would be to create separate htmls but that breaks the seamless user experience .
    TY...Over N Out...

    hello, kiwi
    quote: "Is there an easy way to burn a completed project to DVD, but keep only the (lo res, lo size) previews on my hard drive?"
    yes.
    maybe,...
    1. you might think of making DVD backups first prior to importing the photos into Aperture. "Store Files: In their current location" once in Aperture make low rez Previews, and export finished Project.
    or,
    2. bring in the photographs to hard drive first prior to importing the photos into Aperture. "Store Files: In their current location" once in Aperture make low rez Previews, and export finished Project.
    the low rez Previews will stay in Aperture but the high quality Versions will be exported onto DVDs and gone from the hard drive (if you delete the originals).
    another way would be to export small about 50-70 pixel wide high quality jpegs to a folder on your Desktop and import & keep these in Aperture Library as a reference. make metadata to show where the original Project DVDs are stored and DVD filing system used.

    I can't down load my images from my Nikon D4 to Apeture.

    Hi skhart1998,
    I also use Nikon D4, D2H and D2Xs
    I use Nikon Transfert 2, the latest version, to download my shots to my MacBook Pro hard disk in a picture folder. After this I use Aperture Import to place the New folder created in the Nikon folder in the Aperture Inspector folder... This way, I always have the copy of my originals files.
    .jpg or .nef  work fine.

  • How to erase images from camera

    Recently switched from iphoto to Aperture for family photographs after using it for project work.
    I connected the camera (a Canon S95), imported images, but was not given the option to erase images from the camera.
    Where in Aperture can you set a preference that asks whether you want to delete images from the camera?

    It is the answer you should want!  There are verified reports of space being lost on cards that were erased from within Aperture (as can still be done when using a card reader).  Hard to tell what could go wrong if it were allowed to do so in a camera.  The correct answer is to always reformat in the camera.
    You actually can have problems simply erasing a few images in the camera -- I never erase, but simply wait to reformat.

  • IWeb 09, Pages 09, and Keynote 09 can't load iPhoto images in media browser

    Ever since yesterday, my iWeb 09, Pages 09, and Keynote 09 have been experiencing problems loading iPhoto 09 images in the media browser. I have no problems loading my audio files, movie files, and widgets, but when it comes to iPhoto picture files, the system just hangs. Luckily, it doesn't crash; it just says "Loading iPhoto images" forever.
    I'm guessing that the problem is with iPhoto 09, because the media browser has no problems loading my Aperture picture files.
    Does anyone have any ideas how I can get iWeb, Pages, and Keynote to load my iPhoto pics in the media browser?
    Thanks!

    1. Quit iPhoto.
    2. Go to your Pictures Folder (or where ever you have your Library) and find the iPhoto Library there (Your Donor Library).
    3. Right Click on it, and from the resulting menu select ‘Show Package Contents’. A Finder window will open and the Library will be exposed.
    4. Find the following files
    AlbumData.xml
    AlbumData2.xml
    and move them to the desktop.
    5. Close up the Library and restart iPhoto. This will force iPhoto to rebuild those files which are key to sharing.
    Then restart the other apps and see does that help.
    By the way: where is your Library? On the Start Up Disk? On an external?

  • Loading an image from CameraRoll - how long should it take ?

    Hi All
    I'm loading an image from the CameraRoll using this method http://www.flashandmath.com/mobile/cameraroll/
    Now on my iPad2 the image loads pretty instantaneously
    However on my iPhone4 it takes approx 8 seconds for the image to load.
    ( The time is taken after calling loader.loadFilePromise waiting for Event.COMPLETE ... i.e. the image to load )
    function onImgSelect(event:MediaEvent):void {
    var promise:MediaPromise = event.data as MediaPromise;
    removeBrowseListeners();
    loader = new Loader();
    loader.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, onImageLoaded);
    loader.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(ErrorEvent.ERROR, onError);
    loader.loadFilePromise(promise);
    The code base is the same. There are (at least) 2 differences :-
    1) The hardware (iPad vs phone)
    2) The number of images on the camera roll (approx 60 on iPad vs almost 900 on the phone)
    Has anyone else noticed such a difference in speed between devices / number of files ?
    Is there a better/quicker way to load an image from CameraRoll ?
    Is 8 seconds normal/acceptable (I show a busy indicator)
    Any help / suggestions/ observations most appreciated !

    If you opted for the Secure Erase and the account has a lot of data in it, then it could take days to complete.

  • Continuous loading of images

    Aperture 1.1.1 loads images continually -- all the adjustment tools are disabled. I have tried deleting the Aperature .plist file in the preferences without success. I am running a 2Ghz IMac G5 with 1.5GB ram. Aperture 1.0 ran without problems.

    Thanks for the help.
    The image has the small "loading" indicator superimposed with the little spoke indicator, although the spokes are not spinning. No beachball spinning elsewhere. The loading indicator disappears temporarily if I select the crop tool but returns if I go back to the image. Also the loupe tool can be accessed but it also has a "loading" indicator and does not function to magnify.
    This occurs with virtually all images that are in the database -- not just newly loaded images. I thought perhaps there was some translation process necessary to Aperture 1.1.1 so I left the program running overnight. No improvement. I reloaded 1.1.1, also without improvement. The program is useless at the moment.
    Thanks again for any guidance.

  • Erase Images After Importing

    Is this feature lost in Aperture 3? In Aperture 2 I could import images and it would prompt me to erase images and eject card, or simply eject card. In 3 I get no such message, and I miss this feature. Am I missing something or did Apple dump the feature?

    Conventional wisdom as been that you should reformat the card in-camera, not with software on the mac. Years ago there was a very good thread in the Lightroom forum about some occasional problems with software erase that lead to errors on the card that eventually corrupted newly taken photos in camera.
    Having said that, I could swear that I did get an erase images and eject option when done importing in AP3. Maybe my memory is faulty and needs a reformat.

    Try starting Aperture with the command and option keys held down.  You'll get 3 options.
    Try each, starting at the top, in order, checking after each to see if it fixes the issue.

    Hello,
    I am at a loss on how to get my simple application to work. I have a small desktop air application that simply opens Photoshop and runs an action. I used switchboard and the application ran great on PC and MAC. However it only worked for CS3, and CS4 not CS or CS2?. Plus the size of switchboard was a bit large for my small app. I am willing to live with that though . I am using Air with Flex and wanted to know if perhaps there is a beter approach? All the application does is open photoshop, loads an image, and runs an action. Can I do this for all versions of Photoshop using switchboard? Can I do this without switchboard and just use javascript. The big issue is the Air app needs to open Photoshop, and most of the examples have me open PS first and then execute a script located in the PS directory. This needs to work outside of the PS directory. Any examples are appreciated.

  • Using ImageIcon load an image

    Hi I'm having a lot of trouble getting the below code to work. Its copied out of my textbook and its supposed to load an image using the getImage method in the ImageIcon class. The strange thing is I have gotten this to work before, but after I installed Windows 2000 the image doesn't seem to load right anymore.
    getWidth and getHeight - on the image afterwards returns -1.
    Could this be windows 2000's problem? I'm pretty sure it isn't .. but when you run out of ideas, it feels good to put the blame on something other than yourself.
