Aperture 3.6 buggy under Yosemite?
I've been getting some strange library bugs running Aperture 3.6 under Yosemite. Photos will appear and disappear in preview, might also be seeing some preview file corruption.
As Aperture is not being developed further I'm inclined to jump to Lightroom. Just wondering if anyone else is seeing anything similar or if there's a simple fix.
The only challenge I've had with Aperture 3.6 had to do with reprocessing images with the updated RAW engine for Yosemite. I had one project that I just chose to import again, but other than that things worked well. But, once through the initial reprocessing hurdle, I am very happy with the results I'm getting. Aperture may be going away, but it's clear to me that the imaging foundation that sits in OS X continues to improve. I'm actually moving some projects I shot with my Fuji X-TRANS cameras from LR back to Aperture.
I hope you situation improves and you were just experiencing some bumps while reprocessing.

How can I get Aperture 2 to work under Yosemite operating system
I updated to Yosemite and now Aperture 2.x won't work
You can't use Aperture 2 with Yosemite. Only Aperture 3.6 will work.
Either buy the Aperture 3.6 upgrade from the App Store, or downgrade again, if you have a full backup of your system: OS X Mavericks: Revert to a previous OS X version
The last compatibility upgrade for Aperture 2 has been for MacOS X 10.6.8. All later MacOS X version had compatibility issues with Aperture 2. -
Aperture 2 is buggier than 1.5.6
Aperture 1.5.6 under Leopard (fully updated) was buggy on my PowerMac G5 with 6.5 GB of RAM and Radeon 9650. The Viewer blackout bug was especially annoying, prohibiting A-B comparisons of edits and slowing my workflow.
I bought the upgrade to 2.0, only to find that I could not update from my Academic license (real smart marketing, Apple) so I've been using 2.0 in trial mode.
The Viewer blackout bug is still present, with the "enhancement" that sometimes the Viewer window goes yellow instead of black. The underlying characteristic seems to be randomness. I can't predict when it will happen or what the screen will look like when it happens.
Worse by far, for usability, is that 2.0 becomes slower the longer the working session, then the cursed beachball starts appearing occasionally, then it's in my face every time I make an edit. So I quit and restart. At least quitting and starting is faster than with 1.5.6.
The slowdown comes on sooner and sooner with each restart of Aperture. After about three restarts the spinning beachball seems to last forever and I cannot start any other application, like Activity Monitor. That exhausts my patience and I kill my Mac by holding in the power button.
After restarting Leopard, the whole sequence of getting slower and slower repeats. I'm not a professional programmer, but the pattern suggests a severe memory leak, which eventually affects other applications like the Finder.
Why is it that Adobe can write image processing software that works on the Mac better than Apple? In fact, I have no reliability problems with any software other than Aperture, so the I don't have a hardware issue. TechTool Pro passes my Mac. I repair disk permissions frequently, using Disk Utility and sometimes DiskWarrior.
Although I have used Macs since the Mac Plus, persistent Aperture bugs through a major update combined with the upgrade-from-Academic crap is souring me on Apple. Who is supposed to know Macs better than Apple?
I love the Aperture interface and the results of editing images. I'm unhappy about not being able to update my Academic license for 2.0, but I planned to buy the full version anyway. However I would by nuts to "upgrade" to such a disastrous new version.
I'm curious why there are not more reports of the problems I'm seeing on this forum. Lots of people seem to be experiencing bugs, but different kinds of bugs. A few people have even posted high praise for the upgrade to Aperture 2, so they appear to have no problems. My Mac is completely stock, except for a Sonnet SATA card that is essential for managing the extra hard drives my photography requires, and no other software has problems with that card. Why does Aperture behave so differently on different Macs? Thanks for your reply. I have automatic generation of previews turned off, share previews with iLife and iWork turned off, and use embedded JPEGs turned on. Aperture 2 works at reasonable speed for a while after starting, then slows down more and more with longer use. Then the Viewer blackouts start, with an occasional yellow screen instead of a black screen. The SBOD may start before or after the Viewer blackouts start.
Since my original post, only hours ago, I've also now seen the Viewer image appear upside down and distorted side-to-side (once). As with all the Viewer weirdnesses, the Viewer image looked normal again after restarting the application. As reported earlier, the SBOD and Viewer appearance problems increase in frequency after multiple restarts of Aperture, until I am forced to reboot my Mac.
I'd classify these abnormalities as bugs.
The Radeon 9650 graphics card was bought as an upgrade when I purchased my PowerMac G5. It is not the fastest graphics card, to be sure, but no other applications, including Photoshop CS3, have the least problem with it. Slowness is not the most serious issue I'm having. Having to restart the application repeatedly, then eventually reboot the OS, is the big issue.
The upgrade from Academic is not related to the problems I'm having with Aperture 2. As I wrote previously, I will pay for the full version - I WANT to buy the full version because I love Aperture 2 when it works - but I would feel like such a dummy to spend my money on an application that is so buggy that it interferes with my workflow. If anyone knows of a way to make Aperture 2 work on my Mac, I will be delighted to learn it. -
Why are external hard drives and similar continually self-ejecting under Yosemite?
When are Apple going to sort out the problem of external hard disk drives and other similar devices continually self-ejecting under Yosemite. This is a problem I have had ever since I upgraded my 21.5" iMac from Mavericks to Yosemite last year, and I when I upgraded to a 27" iMac last November with Yosemite pre-installed the same issue occurs. I cannot even update my TomTom SatNav because it keeps ejecting while the update is trying to process. I cannot use a WD external drive for backup purposes, and even memory sticks eject. This problem has only started with Yosemite and I do not believe I am the only one experiencing it as it has been aired on the communities website previously. I wish Apple would tackle this problem and issue a Yosemite update that resolves the issue. My present Yosemite version no.is 10.10.3.
Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.

Can't access my camera color profiles in Photoshop CC 2014 latest update under Yosemite
I normally have profiles for each camera made by X Rite Color Checker and these are available when processing RAW files. Under Yosemite on a new 2013 Cylinder Mac Pro, Photoshop RAW developer cannot access the profiles.
I discovered that the Adobe Submenu "RAW" was missing so I copied it from my Mac book Pro. however, the profiles still cannot be accessed by Photoshop CC 2014 on this computer.
Any ideas?
As a secondary issue, Adobe DNG maker won't accept RAW files from my Sony A7R, but it did in the past on the Macbook pro running Mavericks.
Thanks for your insights,
AsherOK, I am not entirely sure I have understood your post completely, but when you edit a colour range with a Hue/Sat layer, and click off and back on again, it will default to showing the RGB values, which you may not have made any adjustment to. If you pick the previous colour from the image, or a similar colour, it _will_ show you the adjustments. So long as your picked colour is contained within the range of the previous adjustment.
Ypu could also use the RGB drop down (actually they call it Master nowadays), and chose the colour that is closest to your previously picked colour. I expect you are away that you can edit the colour range being operated on by dragging the four sliders on the two colour bars at the bottom of the Properties panel.
Does that make sense, or am I going in the wrong direction? -
CC runs under Mac OS 10.6.8; not under Yosemite 10.10.2
We are on a secure network via a proxy server. Adobe CC desktop app installs and works fine on Win 7 machines and on our older Macs running OS 10.6.8. However, on our new Macs running Yosemite 10.10.2, and the same proxy config as the older Macs and PCs, the CC destop app launches, asks for proxy credentials (which I provide), then goes to the Creative Cloud log in screen. After signing in to CC, it then goes again to the proxy sign in screen, with the previously provided credentials filled in, and just stops. Apple and Adobe tech support were of next to no help. Since CC works on the Windows machines and on older Macs using the same proxy server set up, I can't figure out what's going on under Yosemite.
RWV you will need to apply the same proxy setting change to Ethernet connection as well. This preferences I showed are utilized to configure each network connection.
If you continue to face difficulties then I would recommend contacting our support team directly at Contact Customer Care. If you have a Creative Cloud for Enterprise or Team account then please have your program administrator submit a request.
I would recommend running the log collector tool referenced at Log Collector Tool prior to contacting our support team. Please make sure to also have the all relevant information regarding your proxy server configuration. This includes the type of proxy server being used and the version you are running. If you do not regularly have access to this information then I would recommend including the individuals from your organization who do have those details in the conversation. -
How do I know if my apps will work under Yosemite?
Hey guys, I'm running Yosemite right now on a mid-2011 Mac Mini that was originally running Lion. I then installed Mavericks on top of Lion(I didn't try Mountain Lion) and then I installed Yosemite on top of Mavericks. I'm planning on erasing the 500GB HDD and installing a fresh copy of Yosemite and then restore my apps and system preferences via an external Time Machine USB HDD I've been using for 2 years.
I'm having a spinning beachball issue that renders my Mac Mini unusable for a few minutes at a time and this is why I want to do a clean install of OSX.
So far my apps have been running great under Yosemite, BUT I'm worried that my apps are running great ONLY because I was running Lion and Mavericks before so the apps I'm running now are only working because the apps were installed onto the Lion and Mavericks 'layers'??? I haven't needed to re-install any apps since installing Yosemite.
How can I check that my apps will run under Yosemite?
Please help!NewbMacUser wrote:
From what he said here: "Because, after you run the Upgrade, it is running Yosemite and not Lion or Mavericks."
How does that translate into this
So whatever apps I'm running at the moment on Yosemite will definitely work when I wipe the Mac's HDD?

HT201237 Final Cut Pro X 10.0.8 not working under Yosemite
I have Final Cut Pro X 10.0.8 and it stopped working under Yosemite. Are there any fixes or work arounds? Oddly enough, my copy of Final Cut Express 4.01 still works!
MacBook Pro 13" (Late 2011)
12 GB RAM
180 GB Intel 530 SSDI'm not seeing Final Cut in my purchases on this device ...
However ...
I did change my Apple ID a few times since 2012 (I kept forgetting it and also wanted to consolidate with my other Apple devices ... )
I actually have Final Cut 10.0.8 installed on two computers. I updated Final Cut on the laptop last year to 10.1 .... but KEPT the old FCP version on the desktop because I liked it.
However, since I updated to Yosemite on the desktop last week, Final Cut 10.8 will not open --- and I don't have an "update option" in the App store.
Will this happen on my laptop if I update to Yosemite? That device is running Mountain Lion, I think. But I would hate to also lose Final Cut 10.1 ... it's all I seem to have left.
Do I have to purchase Final Cut again for both computers? Thanks very much for your help, it is very appreciated! -
How to update aperture 3.0.2 under os x mavericks
i bought aperture 3.0.2 a few years ago. How can i install and updat this programm from the CD using mavericks? I
Thank you, but you can not open aperture 3.0.2 under mavericks.
You do not need to open Aperture 3.0.2 to update it - just install it and upgrade immediately to a version that is supported by Mavericks.
Install it from your installation media, then download the update to Aperture 3.4.5 from the Support page, see: Aperture 3.4.5.
Run the upgrade installer.
Then launch Aperture and enter your registration code. Once you have a registered copy of Aperture in your Applications folder, you should be able to update to the current App Store version.
To repeat Frank Caggiano's question - is there a problem to run the installer from the DVD? An error message, perhaps about an expired certificate?
Then you need to reset the current date and time in the System preferences to a date before February 2012, to be able to run the installer. -
Links in Firefox and elsewhere malfunction under Yosemite
On my year old MacBook Pro all web links in Firefox and elsewhere malfunction under Yosemite. They open a new tab and appear to connect to incorrect web addresses where no content is displayed; that is, if pressing the link will generate any action at all. At present if a link appears as an address one could, of course, labouriously go old school: the addy can be copied, a new tab opened, the address pasted in, then hit return, and wait. If the link appears as a topic or subject in proxy for the address, i.e. no visible web address, the copy/cut/paste method will not work, therefore, the additional information sought at the link is lost to the viewer. Remedy? Thanks.
Seduc-
Thanks for the suggestion. I interpreted that you meant a new user for the OS X 10.10 (the MacBook Pro), so I went to preferences and created a new user in "Users & Groups." The system automatically established that new user as my iCloud persona, including my indelible e-mail address [email protected]. It's not what I would have established had I known what would happen, but it exists, so that's Reality. So, moving forward, the new user approach was not a successful resolve for the the inability to click links, and, thereby, be taken to the 'Link" represented site. I appreciate your efforts in trying to help me resolve this annoying glitch in the new Yosemite OS. Be well, C.A.R.Alfa -
Hello,
Before Yosemite (under Mavericks and less), it was possible to connect immediately another distant computer (over internet) with Screen Sharing (using Command-K or on Finder Menu-Go and submenu Connect To The Server, and putting the address like vnc://name:password@address
Under Yosemite, it is possible to do the same things, but it takes about 30 seconds to get connection (is it the evolution of the celerity of the computing ?). And also, I have 2 windows during the waiting of connection : one is with icon of ScreenSharingApplication and 'Connecting to …com', and the second one is with icon of a BlueHardDiskwith3people and 'Connecting…'.
Under Yosemite, if I use Chicken of the VNC or JellysFastVNC, the connection is immediately.
Could you tell me how is it possible to have under Yosemite a quick connection (about 0 to 5 seconds) with a distant computer (over internet) using Screen Sharing (command-K for example) ?
Thanks.William,
Eventually (after about 30 hours or so) it finished the encryption. I then forced TM do a backup to the external HDD (after adding a 1GB file to my internal HDD) just to measure how long it would take for TM to run a backup to the external disk -- and it was very fast. Looks like everything is working fine now.
Without your advice that 24+ hours wasn't unreasonable time for a first encryption of a drive that size, I probably would have kept restarting my iMac and repartioning the external HDD and gone around in circles.
Thank you very much. -

Also on my Macbook Pro with Maverick 10.9.1. Aperture 3.5.1 hangs if I try to import files.
If I chose a folder containing *.mov, *.mp4, *.wmv or other not supported files, Aperture hangs immedialtely.
I asked apples support today. They recommended to update Maverick to 10.9.1.
So I did. But I had no progress with the Aperture problem.
The second recommendation was to chage the language of the Macbook to english. But also this had no effect to the described problem.
And now?
Best regards, Ekkehard Makosch
