Aperture 3 and BorderFX plugin

Hi,
Can someone inform if I still can use the BorderFX plugin with the new Aperture 3 ?
All the plugins from the previous versions still work with Aperture 3 ?
Thanks

BorderFX works in 32 bit mode only. When you try to use it in 64 bit mode, Aperture tells you its a 32 bit plugin and gives you the option of restarting Aperture in 32 bit mode.

Aperture 3.2.3 and NIK plugins. I use several of these plugins. Recently, and intermittently, the edited image fails to update in the viewer until Aperture is quit and re-launched, even though it is updated in the browser strip. I have assumed the NIK software must be working because the problem occurs from time to time regardless of which one is used. Is there some explanation?

    See this known issue:

Not sure why Apple has not fixed this one yet. It is consistent with NIK plug-ins as well as Photoshop (CS5 and CS6).
Big fumble from my point of view.

  • Aperture 3 and NIK- plugins, problems...

I wonder whether others like me have experienced problems after rendering a photo in NIK's HDR EFEX Pro, and returning to Aperture 3....the latter crashes rather often? Any comments about this issue would be most welcome. Mamster 37

    Hi.
I just happen to have the same problem. I reported it to Nik Technical Support and was given this advice :
HDR Efex Pro 2 takes advantage of the Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) of the computer system. The GPU is also sometimes referred to as the Display Adapter or Video Card, in any case they are all the same. Sometimes certain video cards will not handle this additional processing. You will note this when opening an image into HDR Efex Pro 2 and one or more of the following happens: 1.) HDR Efex Pro 2 will crash right away, or 2.) if it opens the imported image will sometimes not be displayed correctly (solid gray, black or white image), or 3.) the buttons will not display correctly, or 4.) the responsiveness is simply very slow.
In order to resolve this, the first measure would be to update the Display Adapters or GPU driver.
Mac Users: Generally the video card that comes with your Mac will be updated automatically. The exception may be when there has been an additional video card added. In that case the user may need to go to the video card manufacturer's website to download an updated driver for their secondary GPU. If you are using Mac OS Snow Leopard (10.6) ensure to update to 10.6.6 or higher as this can affect performance. If this does not apply to you, please go to the next section below.
Windows Users: Locate the manufacturer of the GPU as well as the model number.Once this is determined, it is then recommended to go directly to the GPU manufacturer's website (best option) or if that is not possible to go to the computer manufacturer's website (secondary option) to obtain an updated video card driver. It is NOT recommended to use Windows Update as in general we have found that these drivers are not updated as frequently. To identify which video card you have please do the following:
Click on Start >Control Panel>System & Security >System >Device Manager and then click on the plus next to Display Adapter, this should display the make and model information.
Go to the manufacturer's website (you may need to search for it via Google) such asNvidea.com and with the model number you should be able to search for the latest driver. If you are unable to locate the driver you may need to contact the manufacturer of your computer to obtain an updated driver.
Once the latest GPU driver is located, download and install the new driver.
Restart the computer and try HDR Efex Pro 2 once again.
If after following the above steps, you are still experiencing the same issue, the next step will be to either disable the GPU (if possible) or force HDR Efex Pro 2 to not use the GPU (safe-mode). If HDR Efex Pro 2 states your GPU is not in use, the following steps may still be necessary to improve performance. In order to disable the GPU in HDR Efex PRO 2 please do the following:
If you are able to open HDR Efex Pro 2 and can see part of the interface, see if you can click on the"Settings" button in the lower left.
In Settings locate the section "GPU" and expand it, in this section you will see a check box "Enable GPU Processing", uncheck this so the GPU will be disabled, then close the settings window.
Close out of HDR Efex Pro 2 (click Cancel), quit out of any and all host applications (Photoshop, Lightroom, Aperture), and then relaunch HDR Efex Pro 2 to see if this corrects this issue.
If you are unable to disable the GPU via settings (e.g. HDR Efex Pro 2 crashes or the buttons are not displaying correctly), please try the following steps below after quitting out of all host applications (Photoshop, Lightroom, Aperture):
    Mac Users:
Open a finder window (or double click on the Macintosh HD on the desktop) and navigate to:
    Macintosh HD : Users : <user name> : Library :Preferences : Nik Software : HDR Efex Pro 2
Locate the file, HDREfexPro2.cfg and right-click and choose "open with..." and then click "Choose" and then locate the applications, "TextEdit" to open this file.
At the very beginning (before all the text) of the configuration file, paste the following code below verbatim:
    <configuration>
    <group name="INTERN">
    <key name="UseSafeMode" type="bool" value="1"/>
    </group>
    </configuration>
Now save the file, close it and relaunch HDR Efex Pro 2 and see if the issue has been resolved.
I have follwed all the recomendations but with no results. I talked to Nik's Support today and together we have verified that the tiff stored by Nik HDR Efex Pro 2 inside the Aperture Librarty is fine. The problem is with Aperture graphic memory management. As a matter of fact, if you experience the problem, you will also see that not only the image edited with HDR Pro 2 can be affected, but also any other you open in your strip after it has occured the first time.
    Below is a typical result.

  • Aperture and NIK tool Plugins

    Hey dear "Apertures",
does somebody use the NIK tools directly in APERTURE as Plug ins?
Till now I have got it only working via PS CS4
Does mean PS CS4 is opening, when I start using NIK tool
System I am using : MACBookPro-  MAVERICKS  APERTURE 3.5.1 - PS CS4 and NIK tool collection
    Thx for the feedback
    FJ

The Nik Collection can be installed as:
    - Aperture plug-ins
    - Photoshop plug-ins
    - Lightroom plug-ins
It's up to you how you use them.
I have them installed as both Aperture and PSCC plug-ins.  If I am going to use only one, and don't need to make additional changes using that Nik tool, I just call it from Aperture as a plug-in and use it.  (Ex: DFine for noise reduction.)
If I am going to use more than one, or want to preserve the layer for additional parametric changes, I send the new Version to PS via Aperture's built-in external editor command, and then use the Nik tool(s) from Photoshop on Smart Layers (I think -- I'm not a PS maven).
So it's really up to you.  It sounds as though right now you using Nik Photoshop plug-ins.  If you want, you can install them as Aperture plug-ins (assuming that you're Nik Collection is up to date and complete).
    Is that helpful?

I'm using a Mac.  I "upgraded" to LR5 from LR4.  I do not want to be a member of the "Creative Cloud".  I just want to use the software I purchased, specifically to upload to my SmugMug account.  Is there a way to use an add-on to do this?  Aperture and LR4 were easy but I'm finding it impossible without subscribing to CC.

Sorry, maybe I don't understand, but why do you feel compelled to subscribe to CC if you already have a permanent Lightroom 5 licence?
For the SmugMug plugin, a simple Google search ("smugmug lightroom plugin") gives this link to download the plugin:  http://help.smugmug.com/customer/portal/articles/121321
Another way is to click the button "Find more services online..." in the the Publish Service section of Lightroom, and to search for SmugMug in the Adobe Add-ons portal; you will find a link to the latest plugin: https://creative.adobe.com/addons/products/1755

  • Aperture and colorchecker passport from X-rite

the colorchecker passport is a tool to make color corrections by camera profiles.
nice program to get my color workflow better accept i use aperture and.. that just doesn't work some how. even adobe's lightroom got a plugin for this beautiful thing but aperture doesn't give any options to use a camera profile. Unbelievable because this is so important if you're doing commercial photography.
I hope some one can help me with my issue because i dont want to leave aperture and work with lightroom...

Just one other comment about this kind of workflow in general.
While absolutely accurate color rendition and absolutely neutral WB can have their uses they are few and far between. Virtually every single commercial image ever viewed has nowhere near "accurate" color or WB. In fact the whole demo video itself is shot so freaking warm it's actually funny. Not only is the video shot warm but just about everything done, from the time of day it was shot to the use of gold reflectors is done to achieve warmth of color while the guy talks on and on and on about how the product helps you achieve accurate color - that's hilarious. Why would you ever go through the trouble to get the light and color so warm just to neutralize it out. His video shooter/processor/editor didn't think it was such a good idea to neutralize it - in fact the video guys actually cranked it up. Really funny stuff. Hmmm what happens when you shoot when the sun is really really warm and you use a gold reflector and a neutral WB target to adjust your WB? Answer = gold/warmth goes away - freaking brilliant. Hmmm maybe he should talk about how the video guys just set the WB to 5500 or even higher temp and captured all the wrong but warm color.

  • ADC SDK and/or Plugin API -- hope springs eternal

    All,
I just contacted the Apple Developer Connection asking if they can give me any information regarding an Aperture SDK and/or Plugin API. If there is one out there, and it doesn't cost a fortune, I'm going to look into the possibility of solving the ACR issue.
It's a long shot, but there's always hope. I'll let you all know what I find out. If anyone else gets to an answer before I do on whether these resources exist, please post it here.
    Brad

Unfortunately I looked into this a few days after the initial announcement - the reply was ' 'Aperture 1.0 ships with a fixed set of adjustments. There's currently no public SDK for plug-in developers.'
On the other hand FCP 1 had no SDK, so it might be another feature where we have to wait...

  • 'black and white' plugin

I downloaded the'black and white' plugin for Aperture and can'rt find it in my computer. I downloaded it twice! I am using Aperture 3.2.2. I looked in my library under plugins and it's ot there and does not show up in Aperture. Please let me know where it is so I can delete from my computer. I am using a Mac
    TRhanks!

    Hello Barbara,
after downloading you need to run the installer first:  I got my version of the plug-in from this site: http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/aperture/blackandwhite_geoffreyclements.ht ml
After downloading I found an installer in my "Downloads" folder.
To install, double click the file: "BlackAndWhite Installer.pkg.zip" to unwrap the package and then run the installer by double clicking the package.
Then the plug-in will be installed either for all users or for you only, either in
    System Library:  /Library/Application Support/Aperture/Plug-Ins/Edit/BlackAndWhite.ApertureEdit/   or
    User Library: ~/Library/Application Support/Aperture/Plug-Ins/Edit/BlackAndWhite.ApertureEdit/
To unstall, drag the plug-in from these folders. If you did not run the installer, just remove the installer package from your downloads folder.

  • I have been storing my Aperture and IMovie Libraries on an external hard drive that recently died.  Fortunately I've been using Time Machine to back up to a 2nd external drive.  How do I restore my libraries to a new external hard drive?

I have been storing my Aperture and IMovie Libraries on an external hard drive that recently died.  Fortunately I've been using Time Machine to back up to a 2nd external drive.  How do I restore my libraries to a new external hard drive?

    This is a tricky one.
Open up Time Machine and go back to a date using the timeline on the right side of the window when you know the drive was working and was backing up as part of Time Machine backups.
Click on the name of your Mac under the Devices heading on the left side of the window in Time Machine, and if things are working correctly you will see Macintosh HD (or whatever you have named it) and the name of the external hard drive that was backing up in the past.
Right-Click on the name of the external hard drive and then click on "Restore (name of drive) to....."  You may be asked for your adminstrator password at this point.
It might be easier to restore the drive contents to your desktop if you have room on your Mac, and then copy things over to the new external drive where you want to store the Aperture and iMovie Libraries.
Once the libraries have been moved over the new external hard drive, you will likely need to "point" Aperture and iMovie to the location of the libraries on the new external hard drive.

  • New to Apple and Aperture-I am surprised at the lack of integration between Aperture and applications as iMovie.

Aperture slideshow is terrible in terms of entering any text on a photo.  It appears that you have to export the photos from Aperture to the desktop to import the photos to iMovie to be able to add quite good text to individual photos. While I am new to the Apple system (I am quite knowledgable in Windows), I am surprised that iMovie cannot import an Album or a Project from Aperture.  It does not appears possible to to copy and paste from Aperture to the project created in iMovie without exporting to the desktop.  This seems like a step backwards.
Since I come from Windows I will be importing most of my photos into Lightroom3 and doing  most of my work.  Yet, there are features in Aperture that I like and will probably use both for the time being.  I am using Aperture 3 and iLife11.  New Macbook Pro

I read the manuals and watched the tutorials on the Apple web site as well as F1 in Aperture and never saw a reference to using Windows menu to list photos in iMovie.  I check this and it does seem to work.  however, you must admit that the procedure for adding text on a photo is limited as compare to iMovie.  Maybe, it is because I want to add text to a photo for posting on Mobileme or other photo posting sites so friends can view the photos in a slideshow or one by one.
I assume that you can answer this question. Since I was exporting photos to the desktop so I could import them in iMovie, if I delete the folder on the desktop will they disappear form the project in iMovie?  Since I do not like a lot of folders on the desktop can I move them to the Pictures folder and not loose the project links in iMovie?

  • Did up date for 10.7.4 to 10.7.5 and update for Aperture and now  Aperture doesn't open.  How do I fix?

Did up date for 10.7.4 to 10.7.5 and update for Aperture and now  Aperture doesn't open.  How do I fix?

I heard dump the app and reinstall?  How do I go about that?

  • If I install a trial version of Aperture and don't like it, will I be able to still use my photo library in iPhoto?

I'm evaluating both Aperture and Adobe's Lightroom to decide which one meets my needs for the best price (got a deal on Lightroom 3 for $120 and I know Aperture 3 is $79 in the Mac App Store).
    I have a few questions:
I currently use iPhoto '11 (9.1.3) and have Photoshop CS4, so I have tools for importing DSLR shots and making pro-type changes in Camera Raw, while also having iPhoto to organize my photo library and syncing Events and Albums with my iPhone and iPad.
I like that I would be able to maintain my iPhoto library data for Faces and Places in Aperture, but am concerned that when the iPhoto library is "upgraded" for Aperture, and I decide I don't really need that program, the upgraded library won't work with iPhoto anymore.
Will I still be able to use iPhoto to access and organize my library, or will it be forever converted for use with Aperture?
I'm considering Lightroom because I have been disappointed with the number of bugs showing up in recent iPhoto releases. I'm a bit weary of buying another photo management software product from Apple. iPhoto '11 crashed my old iMac very frequently (I wound up upgrading to a new iMac due to this and I was expecting to run out of hard drive space in a year or two anyway).
Recently, iPhoto bugs make Events show up multiple times in iTunes when syncing for iPhone and iPad.
If iPhoto management is this unstable, I would like to consider choosing a new method of organizing and syncing to iOS devices and abandoning the iPhoto library method.
Will I find a better user experience with Aperture, or does it also use the single file library and suffer the same struggles iPhoto users have been seeing lately?

The iPhoto library isn't changed in any way by Aperture. Aperture will import the Library and you can choose to copy the files to the Aperture Library or reference them within iPhoto. As long as you don't delete files from the iPhoto Library via Aperture (which you could do if you choose to Reference) there is no impact on iPhoto
Will I still be able to use iPhoto to access and organize my library, or will it be forever converted for use with Aperture?
    They are completely different libraries.
Recently, iPhoto bugs make Events show up multiple times in iTunes when syncing for iPhone and iPad.
    Fixed in the 9.1.3 update.
Will I find a better user experience with Aperture, or does it also use the single file library and suffer the same struggles iPhoto users have been seeing lately?
Like iphoto, Aperture can use the "single file library" or it can use a Referenced Library (just like iphoto can). Note that using a Referenced Library offers not a whit more in terms of features or capabilities. It's file storage plain and simple. Nothing more.
No you won't see the "same struggles iPhoto users have been seeing..." because Aperture is an entirely different allication.
But you my see Aperture or Lightroom struggles

I have had trouble ever since upgrading  to Maverick.

    Try the following:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down to open the First Aid window.
    2 - Run Option #4, Rebuild Database.
