Aperture 3 and Facebook exporting???  doesn't update

So I tried the new Facebook exporter from Aperture 3. You can only put pics in a new Facebook album, or drag them into an album that you have created from within Aperture 3. But when I add photos by dragging them, they do not show up on Facebook. Aperture 3 says they are there, but they are not on Facebook. How do I add photos to an album? Anyone else have this bug in Aperture 3?

After you drag new photos into the Facebook album, you have to click on the little radar-wave-looking icon to re-sync the album. I think there is a setting somewhere to make it auto-refresh, but by default they're manually synced.
It's annoying that you can't seem to connect to an existing Facebook album. Hopefully they'll fix that.
It would also be nice if you could connect to more than 1 Facebook account (I don't think you can) -- my wife and I keep our shared photo collection on Aperture, but I think only one of us can use it to sync photos to Facebook.

My macbook air says I have a software update to install and In order to do that I have to restart it first. After I restart it, it doesn't do anything and I do it over and over and it still doesn't update. Please Help

The order is generally as follows:
    Download the update
    Allow the update to install
The update will force a restart of your computer
So I suspect you are simply misreading the directions regarding the timing of the restart.

  • Lightroom 3.2 and facebook export

    goodmorning everybody !
i hope someone can help me. First of all sorry for my english
    so ...
i have a problem exporting photos to Facebook.
i had authorized Lightroom on facebook. Back to Lightroom and i see that i can't choose any album or create one
I don't know really where to look to solve the problem
    any help ?
    thanks

My problem with the service being unavailable rectified itself the very next morning, I can only guess that FB had that service down at the time I was trying to upload.
For those people who believe that you can only have one album per service, this is incorrect. The tool is actually very useful and far superior to the standard FB photo upload tools. However, as a previous user of jf Facebook, I still rate jf better than the LR Facebook tool, the only issue I have with the jf tool is it's difficult for me due to problems with my PayPal account, but the tool itself is superb.
Anyhow, I digress, back to the point of this post, after setting up your Facebook publish service, you may create as many collections, linked to either new or existing albums as you wish under this service. During the initial setup, you select or create an album, if you go into setup again, you do not have the option of creating any further albums - this is different from the jf tool and is probably what is confusing people. To create or link to another album, simply right click on the Facebook service, select create collection, give it a name and either create a new album to link it to, or select an existing album. If you create a new album, you can set the privacy settings here also.
    At the moment, I currently have three Facebook Publish services on my LR 3.2 setup;
         1. My wifes FB Collections
         2. My own standard non-copyright FB collections
         3. My own copyrighted pics collections
The reason for setting up the two seperate FB Publish services for myself, is that one automatically inserts a watermark into the photos (copyrighted collection), where as the other does not.
The tool is a good tool, however please remember, if you modify the photo within LR after uploading, when you update this photo any comments or likes that users placed within FB will be lost forever, so do try and ensure that your photos are correct prior to posting.

  • Facebook export doesn't show all existing albums

    Lightroom 5.3
    CR 8.3
    Windows 8
Hello everyone I have a client who is running into an issue when trying to export pictures to facebook from lightroom 5.3.  Everything works great, except, the list of existing albums contains only 25 of their 83 albums.  I suspect this is limitation on the publish service for facebook within lightroom, but i'm hoping someone has a workaround as 25 albums is a paltry sum in todays digital camera world.
Thanks in advance for any assistance,
    Jeramie

Could you have some value in the Sort Album field that is making the album display in an unexpected place in the Albums menu?
    You nailed it there.
With the new ability to transcode on the fly (well, fly is a relative term, I suppose), I've abandoned my prior system of keeping two libraries (one of lossy compression for devices, which is now unnecessary, and one of lossless compression for home audio which remains in use). Your tip reminded me that on the lossless library, for some bands, I'd started to list the album year in the Sort Album field, to have them appear in the order they were released. I did that before the "Album by Year" heading in the library was available, or before I knew about it. So I cleared the Sort Album field and all is well again.
Many thanks for your help. Now, for extra credit, any ideas on this one?

  • Aperture and Flickr Export Problems - Missing Files

I have a MacPro, Aperture 3, and Flickr Pro account. I was planning on using Flickr as an online storage/back-up option for lower-res files. However, whenever I try to upload a project to Flickr files always seem to drop off.
For example, if I export a project with 446 files in it, when it gets to Flickr it'll say I only have 403 images. Likewise if I try a smaller project (e.g., 426 -> 404).
Has this happened to anyone else? Any ideas what is the cause of this problem?
Also, any way to remove that 500 upload limit per project to Flickr? Flickr itself does not limit the number of photos you can store in a set.
    Thanks!

Maybe it's related to this bug?

  • Aperture 3 Facebook exporting wrong size 602px not 720px

Uploading to facebook using the fb export in Aperture 3 results in photos on facebook that are max 602px x 602px.
But fb have increased the max size to 720px x 720px, but aperture still seems to be 602px. This can be seen if you use the Facebook's photo uploader plugin the photos will be uploaded at 720px.
    Anyone else also noticed this?

  • Moving iphoto's mobileme and facebook galley into Aperture 3

In iPhoto I have a lot of mobileme and facebook gallery that I update frequently.
I'd like to use Aperture3 also for this, but I'm unable to import these galleries.
I migrated all iphoto's library into Aperture, but on the left of Aperture mobileme and facebook galleries didn't appair...
    can u help me please?

You are correct with your re-explanation
I typically have one album that I push all my family/snapshots too on Facebook, so in this case, I just deleted that album on Facebook, and restarted by creating in in Aperture, so now I am in sync. I have other albums already on Facebook that I will leave as is.
There was/is a Facebook plugin for Apeture I was using in Aperture 2:
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/aperture/facebookexporterforaperture.html? cmp
I assume it will still work (32-bit only of course). It has not been updated in eons though, as you can see. This plugin simply pushed any selected photos up to Facebook, and allowed you to choose which album on Facebook. You then had the extra step of then going into your Photos section on your Facebook profile, selecting those photos, and "approving them to be published". Tedious. I actually like the Aperture 3 way better now (like in iPhoto before). The bummer of course is that you have to start from ground zero in terms of the synchronization

  • Any way to stop facebook exporter from using version names as the caption

I tried the Aperture 3 facebook export and it is using the version names as the caption. If I change the caption on facebook it then changes the version name in my aperture library when it syncs with facebook. Is there anyway to have it use the caption meta data field instead? You would think if they had that option for mobile me they would have it for FB too.

Add me to the list of people interested by this issue - but AFAIK there is no way to change this. Let's hope Apple fixes this soon.

  • Can I sync my iCloud calendar with Outlook 365?  I upgraded from Office 2010 and now it doesn't sync.

I upgraded from Outlook 2010, and now it doesn't update in Outlook 365.  Thinking I can't do it, and it's a pity, cause I want it all to integrate on phone and on desktop.  I'm running Windows 7 and Office 365.  The iCloud app works fine with Internet Explorer, but I can't get the calendar to update.  Any suggestions?

Can't I just set up Exchange as one of my calendars in ical?
Only if you're running Snow Leopard and your employer will allow access (different than iPhone/mobile device access, so most likely not), but not needed - keep reading.
Is it really true that I have to choose between syncing Exchange with work server OR syncing iCal with personal Macbook?
No. It was true, but with the v3.0 software that changed - you can now sync your Exchange contacts and calendar over the air, and your Address Book and iCal via iTunes over the docking cable.
What is the best work around for this?
None needed. When you set up the exchange account, and choose to turn on syncing of contacts and calendars, you will be prompted to remove all other data, or keep it on the iPhone. Choose the keep option. Note that in that case, your personal data will not be uploaded to the Exchange server - the iPhone keeps them separate (although you can choose to view them in a merged fashion).
I have this set up on my phone (Exchange calendar along side personal and other calendars from iCal). Same for contacts. Works great.

  • Using Aperture and iPhoto

I have been using Aperture, and love it. I just got the new iLife 08 and like some features in iPhoto that I cannot use in Aperture, such as the new web gallery and the new iPhoto books. Is there a way I can easily use both without managing 2 databases?

I have just done the same thing, and don't those Web Galleries look great?!
You do have to manage two databases (Aperture and iPhoto) but you do not have to make additional copies of your photos (as I am sure you are keen to preserve HD space on your MBP).
In iPhoto preferences you can elect to not add your imported pictures to the iPhoto library.
So one way to do it is import your Aperture Previews via the File menu in iPhoto. This way iPhoto has access to the Photos but you haven;t made yet another copy. This does necessitate having a whole heap of previews that you may or may not publish on your web gallery, but you can also access them smoothly and easily from within iLife and iWork.
Another and even better way for preserving disk space would be to not have Previews on in the first place in Aperture (thereby saving room).
Make an individual album or a smart folder in aperture and then export those particular images as JPEGs at whatever quality you choose.
These images would almost certainly need to be incorporated into the iPhoto library. But at least you have only doubled up on a few select pics and not your whole aperture library.

  • Apple Update doesn't update yet states all files are up to date

I tried running the Apple Software update on my 10.6.6. It runs, bu then it gives me a message that all files are already updated and the only option is to quit. It doesn't update any files.
I tried even going to the direct file link to update Epson drivers. I know there's an updat out there for Epson. My current driver for my R2880 printer is v8.17 and I know that there's an upgrade to 8.37 (I have done this update on another MAC).
I have done other updates before without any issues. I've tried 4-5 times then rebooted my MAC and it still doesn't update. Any help would be appreciated.

If SU doesn't show the update, then either you've not selected the Epson printer in the Print & Fax prefPane or it needs to be connected to the machine. BTW, the latest Epson update is at http://support.apple.com/kb/dl900 Download and install it manually.

Also when I do the system update it's not giving me an update for the latest Snow Leopard. I never knew that was available until I started looking around this site and it seems that since I have the internal dual core I should be able to update to mountian lion...is this correct? Will someone please help me and walk me through this. I love my mac I want to have it running like it should be.

  • Web gallery export bug: Crop ratio change doesn't update correctly

I've just submitted this as a bug to the Aperture feedback site, but then realized that maybe I should have asked around to find out if it was just me or if it's an actual bug.
Try this: Export a web gallery to your site. Now change the cropped aspect ratio of one or more images in the gallery. Now export the gallery again and when Aperture asks if you want to Update or Replace the existing gallery, select Update. (This option is supposed to save time by only sending the changed files to the site.) The image that was cropped differently will still show up in the Index and Detail view with the old ratio, but the new dimensions will be stretched to fit the old ratio.
I've done this repeatedly and it's completely reproducible. The only way to get the gallery to display correctly is to select Replace when exporting the gallery. Obviously, if your gallery is larger than a handful of images this will take a while and it defeats the purpose of the Update option.
Does anyone find this same issue or am I the only one?

    Yeah, that makes sense.
I'm thinking now that if I create a new version in the web gallery and crop it just for the web export the app will probably re-send that image out to the web site because it treats the new version as a different image. Since the new version really doesn't take up any meaningful hard drive space this wouldn't be a deal-breaker, but I would have to remember to NOT delete that version or change the crop ratio before uploading the gallery again.
