Aperture 3 and iPhoto slideshows

Still looking for someone who can tell me whether they've been a able to transfer their slideshows from iPhoto (08/09) to Aperture.
Jay

Thanks. Just being a little cautious before I dump my iPhoto library into Aperture. I've heard there are some problems and that slideshows don't go in Aperture. You're right, I guess no one is really having the problem or is into this area right now. Surprised that Applecare doesn't know the anwer either.

  • Can Aperture 3 and Iphoto sinc library ?

    Hi .
I´m not photo professional but I want more reosurce with my photos. I bought Aperture 3 and I feel I have most I need from Iphoto. I don´t want have too many space with two photo libraries and have a risk to loose something. It´s possible to sinc my aperture library with Iphoto ? For a hobbist you think Iphoto is enough ?
    Thanks,

No, you cannot sync your iPhoto Library and your Aperture Library.
You will have to make up your mind which of the two you will want to use in future.
If you really feel the need for the advanced editing and organizational tools Aperture has to offer, you can have an easy transit from iPhoto to Aperture by importing your iPhoto Library as it is into Aperture. This will keep all your meta tags, events (now called projects), albums, slideshows, etc.
Aperture has a steep learning curve, but it is possible to use initially no more than than you did use in iPhoto and so gradually get to know the program.
The way back from Aperture to iPhoto is not so easy, for you cannot import your Aperture lIbrary into iPhoto. It is a one-way road. So try it thoroughly before you commit yourself.

  • Using Keynote and iPhoto slideshow together

    Computer: 12" Powerbook G4, 1.5ghz
Display: 23" Apple Cinema Display (1920x1200)
    Software: OSX 10.4.9, Keynote 2, iPhoto 6
Hi everyone! Above are the specs for the project I'm working on and here's the problem I'm having:
I am trying to create a makeshift kiosk display for an upcoming event using slides in Keynote and a picture slideshow in iPhoto. I'm planning on running it off my Powerbook to my 23" Cinema Display.
I'm using Keynote for the presentation content because of the motion effects (transitions, build-ins, etc.) and iPhoto for the image slideshow because of the Ken Burns effect (which I don't believe Keynote has). Both look great running seperately, however when this is being displayed at the show, I'll need both to run back to back automatically, without having to manually switch back and forth between applications.
I have both the Keynote presentation and the iPhoto slideshow displaying at 1920x1200. I've tried exporting the iPhoto slideshow to Quicktime, but it won't export any higher than 640x480. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can make this work? I won't be able to operate the computer when this is running, so I really need to find a way to make everything run seamlessly while keeping the high resolution of the 1920x1200 monitor.
Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated!
    Thanks,
    -Steve
    PB 12" 1.5ghz   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

iMovie is a DV editing app and the final results would still make a 640X480 file.
I would change a few things to make everything work together:
First is the display resolution. You want the 23 inches to be used so just reduce the display preferences to try and match your QuickTime file. 800X600 sounds about right but larger will still work as H.264 Video scales up in size very nicely.
This would force you to "reduce" the dimensions of the Keynote file but that shouldn't be much of an issue.
QuickTime Pro could also be used to "change" the dimensions of the 640X480 file. Again, H.264 scales up in size and would look pretty good at even double size.
The goal is to have them both at the same dimension and then match the monitor resolution.
Easier to change the display than the files.

  • Using Aperture 3 and iPhoto '11 together

I was wondering how to use them together. I spent a lot of time on Aperture 3 for geotagging every photos + faces and, trying to import them back to iPhoto '11, means losing all those info and start back again.
I was wondering if there's a way for keeping the main library on Aperture 3 but being able to work on it through iPhoto '11.

Aperture and iPhoto are entirely different applications that work in very different ways.
The only communication between the two is as follows:
Aperture is able to parse the iPhoto Library to allow it to import the contents while stacking the Originals and Modified versions, preserving metadata and so forth.
Aperture can share its Previews with the iLife apps, including iPhoto.
    That's it.
So, specifically, what interaction there is between the two is designed to facilitate migration from iPhoto to the more powerful app. After that, iPhoto has exactly the same relationship to the Aperture Library as, say, Pages or iMovie.
for geotagging every photos + faces and, trying to import them back to iPhoto '11, means losing all those info
use an Export preset in Aperture that includes location information. There is no way to share Faces, but you can use it as the basis for keywording.

  • Aperture 3 and iPhoto 11 Deletion Disaster

I had been using iPhoto 11 exclusively. I decided to try using Aperture 3. I populated a new Aperture library by referencing my entire iPhoto library, leaving the files in their original location. I decided to stop using Aperture and deleted the iPhoto pictures from within Aperture. I then cleaned the Aperture trash, which in turn moves those files to the system trash. Before clearing the system trash, I opened iPhoto to make sure that my files were still there. When I opened iPhoto, I saw all my files there and decided to proceed with clearing the system trash, thinking everything was preserved. The next time I went to use iPhoto, I tried selecting one of the pictures in my iPhoto library and got a black screen with an exclamation point inside of a triangle.
Before this disaster, I had just under 6,000 photos in iPhoto. iPhoto still tells me that I have this many pictures, and the size of my iPhoto library is still 30GB. When I browse inside of the iPhoto library, it appears as though the files that I imported into Aperture are missing their full sized versions, which is causing the black screen with the triangle and the exclamation point. Short of trying to recover the files through some sort of undelete procedure or data recovery attempt, can the pictures be restored from anywhere else?
I unforunately did not keep a backup, and Time Machine (which I do not use) would only let me go back a few hours to right after my last system trash purge, which doesn't do me any good. How come iPhoto is still saying that I have all my photos? How come the iPhoto library is still 30GB? I am guessing that this disaster has cost me about 80-85% of my photos. It just doesn't seem right that I should be able to delete my iPhoto masters from within Aperture. And if I am able to do that, which apparently I am and did, iPhoto should do a better job of reflecting the change.
Thoughts and suggestions for recovering these files? Thanks in advance!

By the way, I have several data recovery software packages. It looks like they are able to recover the pictures (or most of them), but all the filenames are lost.
Then, on no account, do anything that might write to your disk, until you recovered your images.

I can only guess what happened, because you did not tell us how you imported your pictures into Aperture. Probably you used the option to import the images to Aperture as referenced master files, leaving the actual files inside the iPhoto library to avoid duplicates. And when you wanted to uninstall Aperure and delete its database, you told Aperture to delete the master image files and not only the references to the masters. So Aperture deleted the master image files inside the iPhoto Library.
and you were cutting of the branch you were sitting on.
The iPhoto Library must not be modified in any way, other then by iPhoto itself. iPhoto can't be blamed for reporting wrong information, if its database has been corrupted behind its back.
I wish, however, that Aperture would give a fair warning, if you ask it to delete master files locating inside an iPhoto Library package.

  • Aperture 3 and iPhoto web galleries...

    Hi Folks,
I have used iPhoto and want to shift to Aperture 3. I have the 30day trial installed and have imported my iPhoto library successfully. iPhoto events, photos and albums are shown in Aperture Projects but I cannot see MobileMe or Facebook albums that were uploaded and displayed in iPhoto.
How am I able to import these web galleries into Aperture 3?
    Martin Fuggle

I figured out the mobile me galleries but not FaceBook.
First you need to create at least one new MobileMe gallery from within Aperture.
Go to the MobileMe galleries in Safari. Click on the "adjust settings" tab and it will ask which app you want to sync with. Obviously, select aperture and hit publish. You need to do this for ALL the albums individually.
    Done right? I thought so.
I opened Aperture and the albums were still not in there. Go to Aperture preferences and to "Web" there you click on something to the effect of check for new published items. Click to check now.
    Voila.
If you figure out the facebook albums let me know. I am guessing those are not possible to do.

  • Aperture 2 and iPhoto

    Hello,
Does anyone know if when you import iPhoto pictures into Aperture 2, does Aperture copy over the originals into the Aperture Library, or does it just create thumbnails in the Aperture Library.
What I am trying to determine is whether or not Aperture creates another copy of the iPhoto images or just references them in the iPhoto library.

    Thanks for the response.
When I launched the iPhoto Browser in Aperture and then drag an event into Aperture, it creates a new project and then looks like it generates thumbnails as well. So it look like dragging from the iphoto browser to Aperture copys the files as apposed to reference them. I verified this by right clicking on the new project Aperture created and clicking on "Manage Referenced files" and got a response that there are no referenced files.
I wonder if there is a way to select to keep files in their original location.
What I am tryin to accomplish is to maintain all originals in iPhoto and let Aperture reference them. That way Time Machine can maintain the backup database from iphoto instead of maintaining a seperate backup through Apertures Vault.

  • Random sequential groups of photos missing from Events and iPhoto Slideshow but are in an Album. How do I recover or copy photos back to Events and rebuild slideshow?

Random sequential groups of photos missing from Events, an Album I created, and a slideshow using the photos. This "appears" to have happened when upgrading to Yosemite. When I use iPhoto Library Manager, I see two entries for the Event Information for the date in question, same name, same number of photos, but different sizes. The smaller has the image number but no photo for the given date; the larger has the photos.
Image path for the version with all photos: /Volumes/Promise Pegasus/Pictures/iPhoto Library/Previews/2010/2010_05_24/IMG_0697.jpg
Image path for the version with missing photos: /Volumes/Promise Pegasus/Pictures/iPhoto Library/Previews/2010/2010_05_24_2/IMG_0697.jpg (NOTE the _2 added to the image number.)
I assume that I have to get the missing pictures back in Events so I can reload back into the Album. Hopefully, the slideshow will magically be better.
    Help!

That's an indication that the link/file path between the thumbnail and the master file has been broken.  Do the following:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down to open the First Aid window. Be sure to follow the circled recommendation in the screenshot.
    2 - run Option #4, Rebuild Database.

  • Aperture 2 and iPhoto '08

I was considering getting iLife '08, primarily only for iPhoto '08.
But I procrastinated because I didn't really want to spend 80 bucks for just iPhoto.
Now that I am going to get Aperture 2, would it benefit me to upgrade to iLife '08?
    Thanks.

    hi,
i guess nobody except yourself could tell. Beside iPhoto features, Aperture and iLife are two different product. While one is a profesional software for adjustinf and managing digital pictures workflow, the other one will let you create movies, web page and music.
Therefore, the value you gives to iLife '08 only depend on the how you will benefit from its features. If you want to have an idea, you should read http://www.apple.com/ilife/. If your interest is only for iPhoto and that you are planning to use Aperture for your workflow, I doubt that iLife will be helpfull.
Beside, you should ask yourself what is the iPhoto's features that you find interesting while you got Aperture. Personally, as an Aperture's user, iPhoto was only interesting because of its iLife integration while Aperture 1.5 doesn't. But now, with Aperture 2.0, iPhoto is completly useless for me. But again, its very personal.

  • New apple tv and iphoto slideshows

does anyone know if the new apple tv can stream existing iphoto slideshows as they appear in iphoto? the old one sort of did for a while then lost the feature. thanks

    Hi Winston,
I'm on the road right now and only have my (gasp) windows laptop with me. I'll be back home on the weekend and I'll try to describe it then.
I'm an old iMovie fan, I bought a iMac SE partly because it came with iMovie (ver 1). My complaint is the pictures are much "softer" in iMovie and I assume that is as a result of the rendering of the still picture to video. I wouldn't mind a primer from someone on how they use iMovie to make a slideshow from photos and music to get the best possible results. My old 50" Sony TV only goes to 720P (which is the best Apple TV can provide anyway) but like I said the photos themselves look stunning but the music doesn't sync right when I use iPhoto slideshow on apple TV.
I love the simplicity and short time needed to create a slideshow in iPhoto, and would prefer a solution using it instead of iMovie.
Any and all tips hints are welcome.
    Thanks Again,
    Old Fogie

  • Aperture 3 and iPhoto library

After importing my iPhoto 09 photos into Aperture (using the store files in the Aperture library option) I decided I was happy with the results and no longer needed any reference to iPhoto so I deleted the iPhoto library (under projects & albums) from within Aperture and this removed all the photos that I just imported. I'm bit confused because if I imported them into Aperture then why would they still be linked to an iPhoto library. Shouldn't they be stored as a master in the Aperture library?

so I deleted the iPhoto library (under projects & albums) from within Aperture and this removed all the photos that I just imported. I'm bit confused because if I imported them into Aperture then why would they still be linked to an iPhoto library.
When you imported them they are put in a Folder called iPhoto Library. You can drag them out of that. But because you deleted the Folder, they were deleted too.

  • Trouble with itunes playlist and iphoto slideshow

    Hello,
I have created the slideshow in iphoto with background music from a playlist from itunes. It all looks great and plays perfectly in iphoto but after the conversion into a movie using Quicktime only the first song from the playlist accompanies the slideshow. I have done this before with an earlier slideshow and it all worked out great: Slideshow became movie accompanied by the whole playlist. This problem seems to have occurred since I upgraded to itunes 7.6 and Quicktime 7.4 Any ideas or hints would greatly appreciated.

my advice has always been to rebuid any arrays with the new OS.
    backup, delete, restore/reload
And invest in SoftRAID for your driver for all drives but esp. for mirror.
TimeMachine - I'd pull your current backup drive and use a new one.
    And clone.
Never rely on one backup set, or method.
iTunes has always been.... interesting. Maybe someone in iTunes forums, and Lion community.
I have always had iTunes and my media/data personal account home folder (back to 10.2 days) on separate drive volumes. Often stripped. Vista + itunes + RAID = corrupt data, but that was 2007.
Shift launch iTunes. Told it where Media Library is. There are Apple support articles to cover this.

  • Aperture 2 and iPhoto library

I know one can import the iPhoto library into the Aperture projects pane.
and have it as referenced images.
If you then add an delete images via the iPhoto application, how do you update the iPhoto images seen in Aperture?

Not the hugest fan of iPhoto (it suddenly slows with medium big libraries, around 10% of Apple's stated max)) but apart from Front Row...
In iPhoto you can successfully view and scan panoramas in full-screen, zoomed as far or as little as you want, even if the files are big. In Aperture you can't really do this, and the zoom range is inappropriate. The navigator in iPhoto is streets ahead, as is the one in Lightroom. The Aperture Navigator is designed for normal aspects and small files - it gets laughably small, with big files, or long photos, and has not been coded to be smart about this kid of picture. And Aperture is too manly in its minimal appearance to show you a ghost of the image behind the tiny nav, like LR and iP, both of which are much faster in practice for this kind of thing.
And in iPhoto, workaday exporting is ten times faster.
Guys I am finding this "Aperture is for men, iPhoto is for women and children" stuff a good reason not to use the prog. Aperture is for men with lots of free time! The sliders in 2.1 are still like pulling a car with your teeth, compared to the competition, once two or three adjustments are in play.
    best
    Paul

  • Aperture keywords and iPhoto and the iPod video error -50

A heads up for anyone who is moving photo's from Aperture to iPhoto. If you have use nested keywords in Aperture then you export to use in iPhoto ( since there is know iLife integration at this time)( also very poor on apples part ) you will get a error in iTunes -50 unknown error.
To fix this all you have to do is remove the offending keyword from iPhoto's master keywords list and you good to go. Wish it did not take me 2 full day to figure this out.

I actually did something similar. Except I dumped whole projects or split projects in two and then dumped one, until I was left with 1 project with only 1 image. Took a few hours but finally found one image who's caption seemed to be corrupt (had garbage character at the front). Once I deleted the caption (had to do it in GraphicConverter) it all worked. The photo was part of a set of photos that I had imported from iPhoto, so I definitely think it has something to do with Aperture's iPhoto import. So not quite the same issue as you, but I think probably related.
