Aperture 3 and MobileMe Galleries created in iPhoto

I wanted to post this to hopefully help someone else should they run into the same thing.
I recently upgraded from point and shoot camera's to a higher quality camera, so I also decided that it was time to upgrade from iPhoto to something better.  I decided on Aperture as I am not quite ready to commit to the expense and time to learn something as complex as Photoshop.
Well, the first time I opened Aperture and told it to import my iPhoto library, it worked without any difficulty.  But, I noticed something was missing.  My MobileMe galleries where not displayed in the inspector window for Aperture.  I could not for the life of me, figure out how to get them to show up in there either.
I went to the Apple store and talked to some Aperture users there and no one could seem to tell me how to fix this.  It was even more frustrating because all of my photo albums from FaceBook came up in Aperture just fine.
Finally in a last ditch, hail mary pass, of an idea, I went to the web UI for my MobileMe galleries.  I figured that maybe if I edited something about those galleries, they would then show up in Aperture.
Well, I went into the properties for one of the galleries that I was not seeing in Aperture, and low and behold, there in the properties was an option to choose what application that gallery would sync to.  The only options are iPhoto or Aperture, so I changed each gallery to show Aperture as the chosen app to sync with.
Finally they now show in Aperture, of course, as you might expect, they no longer show in iPhoto.
I have no idea why the Import process does not warn you about this, and / or offer to change them for you, but it was very frustrating.
If this can help someone else new to Aperture to avoid this frustration, then I am glad.

Thanks Richard, very helpful. I wondered why I couldn't see my old mobileme galleries in Aperture.
I have swapped between iPhoto '09, Aperture 3, iPhoto '11 and now back to Aperture. Whilst I love the ease of use and relative speed of iPhoto, Aperture's adjustments and masters/versions handling has the edge for me now that my masters collection is too big for my MBP. And with a clean install of Lion my machine now seems more responsive than it has been for a while.
Changing the setting of each gallery is a bit dull, is there a global 'manage mobile me galleries with iPhoto/Aperture' setting anywhere?

  • How to move my entire iphoto library and all albums and mobileme galleries to my new tower?

What is the best way to move my entire iphoto library and all albums and mobileme galleries to my new tower?
I want to move it smoothly without hours of reconfiguring albums and Mobileme galleries.  Already have a timemachine backup of the older iMac with the iphoto library.

Connect the two Macs together (network, firewire target mode, etc) and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity from the old Mac to the pictures folder of the new Mac - launch iPhoto on the new mac and it will open the library and convert it as needed and you will be ready move forward.

  • Possible to manage the MobileMe galleries made by iPhoto using Aperture3?

I am considering moving my whole library from iPhoto to Aperture.
I understand that I can import the whole iPhoto library, but is it also possible to manage the existing MobileMe galleries made by iPhoto using Aperture3, without changing the current URLs of the gallery?
    Thanks.

I'd like some info on this also.
Currently I have iphoto publishing photos to Facebook, Mobileme and Flickr. I have imported my iphoto library but none of these folders have imported. Is there a clever way of transferring these over to Aperture (3) such that my mobilem is unaffected as is my Flickr and facebook.
Aperture 3 already see's my mobileme and I posted a new album to mobileme from Aperture wondering if that would force it to download the other albums on there already but it didn't. You would think there is a way to do this. Otherwise if I have to delete the links in iphoto to facebook and then repost them from Aperture they will show as completely new uploaded photos when a lot of them are years old and at a guess it will re-tag all my contacts who will all think there are new photos of them.
Likewise will all my flickr comments be lost in the above process and will I effectively be starting from scratch again?
Any thoughts, ideas, help and guidance would be very much appreciated. I'd like to get away from using both iphoto and Aperture to just using Aperture 3 now it has all the additional functionality of faces that I like to use.
    Thanks

  • Aperture 3 and MobileMe are now solved?

I am still on with Aperture 2.1.4 and have just had trouble with creating a new MobileMe gallery again, as Aperture remarks after it has uploaded the previews and made the gallery - til there is all fine - it could not communicate with MobileMe. This comes further if I like to made some changes to the gallery within Aperture and try to sync them - nothing happens, only the error comes up. This bug is til I upgraded my system to SL and Aperture 2.1.4. Any idea? Does Aperture 3 still has this bug or is it solved?

Okay ... further to my original note ... has anyone seen this?
Using Aperture 3 and MobileMe ... do you need to create unique passwords for each album?
(that seemed to fix the generic password on multiple albums)
No I have not seen this kind of problem, and no you shouldn't need unique passwords for each album.
I have specific groups that I regularly share sets of albums with. When I create a new MobileMe album, I specify which group has access (or limit the access later via the Aperture-MobileMe album settings). I established the group name (and password) once. For subsequent albums I just specify that group. If I use the Tell A Friend... option to announce a new album, it will share the group/username and password.
IF I enable uploading additional photos via e-mail, that does create a unique/generic e-mail address for each album -- has to as you want any photos to upload to THAT album.
I know this answers your question, but quite likely does not provide a solution. If you can be more specific as to EXACTLY what steps you are taking I might be able to replicate your process and offer a specific solution. Hopefully the pieces I've offered may help you find a solution though?
    Best wishes!

  • MobileMe Galleries created in Aperture are syncing with iPhoto

I used to use iPhoto, but switched to Aperture 3.  Now when I create a MobileMe Gallery, the photos publish to the site but don't show up in the Aperture library under MobileMe.  When I log in to the Mobileme site, I check the settings for the gallery and it says it is syncing with iPhoto.  I can change it to Aperture manually, and then it will show up properly when I go back to Aperture, but I can't figure out why it's defaulting to iPhoto.  I went  into the iPhoto preferences and removed all accounts, and there also are not any photos in iPhoto at all. Any help is appreciated.

  • Aperture and MobileMe galleries

    Hi,
I have the problem that the sorting criteria of my MobileMe galleries always change during the synchronisation process. I want the newest images to be shown on top. That's why I choose "date" as criteria. When I sync the gallery the sort criteria is set to "manual" automatically and the oldest images are shown on top.
I hoped that the newest update solves this problem but that is not the case It's still the same situation.
It is really annoying because you never know how your images show up in the MobileMe gallery.
    I use Aperture 3.0.2 on a Macbook Pro 15'' with 2,4 GHz C2D.
    Thanks for your feedback.

I think you are talking about the order of the Galleries here. If so it is very easy to change them but certainly not intuitive to say the least. You need to log onto your MobileMe account through a web browser. The easiest way to get there is: Apple Menu: System Preference: MobileMe button: Account tab: Account Details button.
You then log in with your name and password.
Click on the Gallery tab (sunflower) and you can drag your MobileMe Galleries into whatever order you want. You can also change the main Gallery name here.
Now I'd be real happy if I could make multiple sites and not just additional albums in the same site.

  • Aperture not displaying MobileMe Galleries

I have a half-dozen MobileMe galleries that I am using to allow clients to view image proofs. They are password-protected and hidden from my Gallery page.
When I opened Aperture this morning, it does not show the MobileMe item in the project pane. None of the galleries are visible. I tried creating a new gallery with a single image, and I was able to publish it. The MobileMe item appeared in the project pane as usual. I quit Aperture, and when I re-opened it, the MobileMe item is again not displayed.
When I try to access any of the galleries directly via Safari, but with Aperture open, I get a message that says, "This page is currently being published. Please try again in a moment." I quit Aperture, and then I can access the galleries as usual.
The only change to my system recently was that I upgraded to OS X 10.5.7 on Friday, and I haven't opened Aperture since the upgrade.

Let me emphasize that I have not experienced this issue. I suspect that rebuilding the Aperture Library might be of benefit -- try rebuilding the Aperture library. Launch Aperture and hold down the Command and Option keys until the Rebuild Library dialog appears.

  • Aperture 3 and MobileMe/Web = Force Quit

I'm having some difficulties with my recent upgrade to Aperture 3 (via App Store). Aperture seems to have difficulty with any sort of web gallery. I can't even get to the web settings in Aperture's preferences window without having to force quit. As soon as Aperture loads it tries to sync MobileMe. It sits there for a while and then gives me an ( ! ) icon. If I click on the icon, the words MobileMe or one of the albums Aperture freezes and I have to force quit. I also have to force quit if I try to create a Facebook album.

Well here's the issue I am currently running into also. I have loaded several galleries to MM as I was trying to sell a truck and a car so I tried using the galleries as a link for my craigslist posting. First off the initial gallery worked just fine with the original 10 photos. But then when I tried to upload another 5-7 photos into the same gallery it was like it created a whole new gallery with the same name. Well I went back in and deleted the newly "doubled" gallery and it magically re-appeared but without any other photos. I then tried deleting that gallery and it went away and came back like Jason in Friday the 13th. I just couldn't kill it!! Then after attempting to delete any gallery they all came back but then on my MM gallery page I was getting blank boxes but still stating how many photos were in the gallery. I was able to click to go into the gallery but there were once again just blank boxes with no photos but at least the titles of each of the shots. Weird!

  • Why can't iPhone play movies in MobileMe galleries published from iPhoto?

I have movies published to my MobileMe galleries from iPhoto or QuickTime. They are in .m4v format, but the iPhone doesn't play them. Does anyone know why?

I have the same problem...movies uploaded directly from iPhoto to the MobileMe gallery. When you double-click on the movies to play, you get, "Quicktime is unable to play this movie. Please try again." This happens regardless of whether I'm logged into MobileMe or viewing my gallery as anyone else would.
If I upload movies from iMovie, they work fine. Anyone have any ideas?

  • .mov Files have Black Thumbnail in iPhoto '08 and MobileMe Galleries

  • Aperture 3 and mobileme gallery

I hope this makes sense to someone!
I purchased aperture 3, imported my iphoto pictures and then started to upload my newest photos into mobileme through the mobileme gallery button. It has created the albums and uploaded them (I can see them in the aperture side bar), but it has created a new gallery folder on my mobile me space rather than popping them into a folder already set up that is the one my iweb is using. So when I log into iweb I cannot see the newest albums. So, after all that, my question is: how do I get aperture to upload the new albums into my existing iweb linked gallery? Or how do I merge the two?
    Phew!!!
    many thanks

Drop them on the desktop then upload directly from the MoMe Album.

  • Aperture 3 and MobileMe

    Hello,
I bought AP2 and upgraded towards AP3 (AP3.0.3 now - other information : french). During this time I just stored my photos. I've just created a web page with the "Publish to Mobile Me ..." button. The dialog box says that my page will be published at this web address : http://homepage.mac.com/..... . It is not a MobileMe address but a old .Mac address. I had a .Mac account and I have now a MobileMe account.
Do you know anything about this problem ?
    Thank you for you help

    I figured it out!!
If you publish a web page with images from within Aperture it will publish to http://homepage.mac.com/username/
This URL is Old. (??) Anyway, the published file/photos may be found in iDisk/Sites. I moved the folder to iDisk/web

  • IWeb 3.0.3 and mobileMe galleries

I recently upgraded to iLife 11 and the most recent version of iWeb, 3.0.3.  In iWeb on my computer almost everything looks fine, the same as it was before the upgrade.  The mobileMe gallery widgets are in place as usual, as well as any audio files.  I did notice in the Insert pull down menu under Widget>MobileMe Gallery> this appears: (no albums or movies available).  That doesn't seem right.
After the upgrade, all my entries had turned to red, so I used the "Publish Site" button, the publish went pretty much as normal, and all the entries once again turned blue.  However, not everything is working properly when I visit the website (using Safari 5.0.5).  The mobileMe gallery widgets do not pop up, only a blank square where they should be.  Also, the audio files seem to be hit and miss, sometimes they download while at other times I just get the little Quicktime "Q" symbol where the progress bar would normally be.  I published a second time using the "Publish Entire Site" option from the File pull down menu.  That did not change anything.
Any suggestions to remedy this situation are greatly appreciated.

The MME Gallery plugin isn't working properly in iWeb.
To overcome that, you can still use the code to display the Gallery. Have a look at the source of this page :
        http://www.wyodor.net/Scripts/MeGallery.html
Grab the code and paste it in a HTML Snippet. Use your own MMe username and Gallery number. Benefit is, you can also change the width and height of the widget.
Problem with the iPad, iPhone and iPod touch is, they do not support Flash.
So I created my own solution :

  • Can you transfer book created in iPhoto to Aperture?

Can I transfer or move books I have created in iPhoto to Aperture?

If you open the Library in Aperture you'll be able to edit the book.
    Are you sure, TD?
When I open a library  I created in iPhoto 9.6 in Aperture 3.6, the Photo Books will give me this warning:
"iPhoto Print Projects" cannot be edited in Aperture."
It is also mentioned in   Aperture 3: Using a unified photo library with iPhoto and Aperture - Apple Support
    Print Products
Books, calendars and cards you create in iPhoto are visible in the Source list in Aperture, but cannot be edited. Books, web pages, and web journals you create in Aperture are not visible in iPhoto.
