Aperture 3 and MobileMe syncing problems

I'm having problems exporting pictures to my MobileMe library. This is happening only with some pictures, not all of them. Checking out the console for errors I can see this showing up:

  • Aperture 3 and Flickr sync problems

    Hi!
I started using Aperture 3 recently and made the mistake of authorizing Aperture to sync with Flickr.  I hate it!  Now I want to deauthorize it somehow but don't know where or how?  I've read horror stories that all of my Flickr photos will be deleted from Flickr if I deauthorize, but none of my Flickr photos were uploaded from Aperture, they were already in Flickr and were automatically synced to Aperture once I authorized it.  Now that I realize I've made a mistake I want to get out, but how?
    TIA!
    Debbie

I have been using the sync feature between my Aperture library and Facebook and Flickr for 6 months and I finally gave up on it yesterday.
As an example of what I usually go through, I uploaded 159 photos to my flickr account this past weekend, then added some captions/descriptions/tags etc. on flickr (was that a mistake?). Then Aperture promptly undid some my work at the next synchonization... I don't want photos on my stream named DSC_6788.jpg, etc.  Thing is, Aperture undoes some of what I do on Flickr but not all.  There's no rhyme, reason, or pattern to it.  If I use Aperture to add tags (by entering keywords in the right field), even those partially disappear after the next sync.
Another maddening thing is that it makes the filename the caption on Facebook albums.  I/e/. if, on Facebook, I added a desctiptive caption on a picture such as "Mommy and Daddy making out under the Eiffel Tower" (totally a made up example), then next time a synch happens, the caption would be "DSC_8646.jpg."  Gee, thanks for the help, Aperture.
For 6 months I have lived in fear of opening up Aperture.  Will the sync mess up what I've published online?
There should be option to not have Aperture override what you do on flickr (and Facebook).  I am a strong believer in the "Publish and Forget" model for places like Flickr and Facebook, not the sync model.
For now, it's back to export to a folder and upload via the uploader.

  • Aperture 3 and MobileMe are now solved?

I am still on with Aperture 2.1.4 and have just had trouble with creating a new MobileMe gallery again, as Aperture remarks after it has uploaded the previews and made the gallery - til there is all fine - it could not communicate with MobileMe. This comes further if I like to made some changes to the gallery within Aperture and try to sync them - nothing happens, only the error comes up. This bug is til I upgraded my system to SL and Aperture 2.1.4. Any idea? Does Aperture 3 still has this bug or is it solved?

Okay ... further to my original note ... has anyone seen this?
Using Aperture 3 and MobileMe ... do you need to create unique passwords for each album?
(that seemed to fix the generic password on multiple albums)
No I have not seen this kind of problem, and no you shouldn't need unique passwords for each album.
I have specific groups that I regularly share sets of albums with. When I create a new MobileMe album, I specify which group has access (or limit the access later via the Aperture-MobileMe album settings). I established the group name (and password) once. For subsequent albums I just specify that group. If I use the Tell A Friend... option to announce a new album, it will share the group/username and password.
IF I enable uploading additional photos via e-mail, that does create a unique/generic e-mail address for each album -- has to as you want any photos to upload to THAT album.
I know this answers your question, but quite likely does not provide a solution. If you can be more specific as to EXACTLY what steps you are taking I might be able to replicate your process and offer a specific solution. Hopefully the pieces I've offered may help you find a solution though?
    Best wishes!

  • Aperture and MobileMe Sync

Syncing photos out of Aperture to a MobileMe Gallery results in missing photos and double photos in the web gallery. Workflow as follows: selected and marked Photos in my Library, clicked MobileMe button, created new MobileMe Gallery, waited sync to be complete, checked result: 305 photos in the web gallery, 435 photos in my Aperture MobileMe album. Seems the sync comes with some bugs and flaws. Help highly appreciated!

I'm still having trouble with the same problem as described. I've followed the instructions as described below which make perfect sense...
@ Rienzo: Currently MobileMe will only sync photos with one program at a time. You need to go to www.me.com, go to the gallery page, and for each album change the setting to sync photos from iPhoto to Aperture. The settings button looks like a light switch on the top bar.
... After selecting an album and the "light switch", I don't see the option listed to chose Aperture. Under the Album Settings dialog, there are three choices under "Allow", two under "Show", and one under "Advanced" non of which allow the selection with respect to Aperture vs. iPhoto others are seeing; where am I going wrong here?
OS-X is up to date as are all applications.

  • Aperture 3.1.3 and iPhoto sync problems

Upgraded to Aperture 3.1.3. Then upgraded to Lion. Tried to sync my iPhone and it got as far as photo's and got a -50 Sync error. Went to iTunes and turned off photo sync and the phone syn'd perfectly. Went back to iTunes turned photo sync back on, and got an error again. Went to iTunes turned off sync and checked the option to remove my photo's from the phone. Sync worked fine. Turned the photo sync back on, and it errored out when it was trying to reload the pictures. Turned off the Aperture photo sync and changed it to iPhoto. The next sync it reloaded my 1,500 photos without a hitch.
Bottom line: I explained all I have gone through so you can understand that it is not a corrupt photo library on the phone, and iPhoto sync'd fine, so it certainly appears that Aperture is once again the problem.

I am getting the same "Unknown error (-50)" when trying to sync photos from my Aperture 3 library now.
I did not upgrade to Lion (waiting for a 3rd party driver I need to be updated first for it), but I did update iTunes to 10.4 (80) recently and that is when I noticed the issue.
I haven't had this issue before. It syncs everything else but when iTunes goes from "Analyzing Photos" to "Optimizing Photos" in the sync process it reports that it is unable to sync because of an "unknown error (-50)"
To resolve the problem, I tried the following:
I repaired my Aperture library database (using Option+Command when launching Aperture 3).
Deleted the "iPod Photo Cache" folder inside my Aperture library. It had to resync all my photos again, this time it worked, but the next sync it had the same error again.
Updated my iOS to the latest version.
Did a Repair Disk Permissions on my Mac.
I changed USB cables and ports (using only ports directly on my Mac Pro).
Tried syncing with only iTunes running.
Doing all the above made no difference, I am still getting the error message and it won't sync new photos back to my iPhone 4 now.

  • Aperture 3 and MobileMe/Web = Force Quit

I'm having some difficulties with my recent upgrade to Aperture 3 (via App Store). Aperture seems to have difficulty with any sort of web gallery. I can't even get to the web settings in Aperture's preferences window without having to force quit. As soon as Aperture loads it tries to sync MobileMe. It sits there for a while and then gives me an ( ! ) icon. If I click on the icon, the words MobileMe or one of the albums Aperture freezes and I have to force quit. I also have to force quit if I try to create a Facebook album.

Well here's the issue I am currently running into also. I have loaded several galleries to MM as I was trying to sell a truck and a car so I tried using the galleries as a link for my craigslist posting. First off the initial gallery worked just fine with the original 10 photos. But then when I tried to upload another 5-7 photos into the same gallery it was like it created a whole new gallery with the same name. Well I went back in and deleted the newly "doubled" gallery and it magically re-appeared but without any other photos. I then tried deleting that gallery and it went away and came back like Jason in Friday the 13th. I just couldn't kill it!! Then after attempting to delete any gallery they all came back but then on my MM gallery page I was getting blank boxes but still stating how many photos were in the gallery. I was able to click to go into the gallery but there were once again just blank boxes with no photos but at least the titles of each of the shots. Weird!

  • IPad, iCal and iTunes sync problem

Early last year, I posted (https://discussions.apple.com/message/18503738#18503738) that syncing between my iPad 3 and my Snow Leopard iMac behaved oddly.  AppleCare Support dweebs had failed to resolve the issue and no one on here managed to come up with any suggested fix.
However, for no apparent reason, the problem stopped and I stopped monitoring this august and highly esteemed forum and all went well ...
    ... until recently.
I sync via a USB cable and I do not use iCloud (as I'm on Snow Leopard) save for Find My iPad, all other iCloud options are switched off.  All other app syncing appears to work correctly, it is only iCal and Calendars that don't.
Just why things have started to go wrong now, probably in the last three or four weeks, I do not know but now the following syncing errors occur ...
    1) On the iPad: new appointments or changes to appointments made on the iPad are not synced to the iMac;
    2) On the iMac, changes to appointments already on the iMac are shown on the iPad as both the new and old timings/details, not as replacements;
    3) On the iMac, new appointments are made in the default (or last) calendar used.  These are then edited as required, with the details put in and, if necessary, calendars changed.  On the iPad, however, these will show as both "New event" in the default calendar and as the edited correct appointment, not just as the finalised entry;
    4) Appointments deleted from the iMac are not deleted from the iPad.
In other words, changes on the iPad are not synced across to the iMac and changes on the iMac are synced twice, once as the unedited appointment and once as the edited appointment - if an appointment is deleted it remains on the iPad.
When the original problem arose (similar but not identical) the Apple dweebs suggested deleting my iCloud account (not synced, used only for Find My iPad) but doing that this time does not remove the bug.
I'm running a 27" quad-core i7 iMac under MacOSX.6.8 (Build 10K549), iCal v4.0.4 (1395.7) and I sync via USB  and iTunes v11.0.2 (26).  The iPad is a 64GB 4G/wifi iPad 3, currently running under under iOS6.1.3.  To the best of my knowledge, all available updates have been applied to both devices.
I have deleted all calendars off the iPad by deselecting Calendars in iTunes' iPad tab, turned it off.  Swicthed off the iMac, Safe Booted and run OnyX full suite, I have then Single User booted, run fsck -fy three times then run applejack AUTO restart, then rebooted the iMac, rebooted the iPad, sync'd without Calendars then resynced with the Calendars selected again.
I had hoped that this would remove any cache files, temporary files, stuck RAM or whatever else could conceivably be causing this bizarre behaviour - to no bl**dy avail!  It is behaving exactly and frustratingly as before!
What on earth is going on?  if I can't use my iPad as my main calendar and add new appointments when out and about and have them synced properly and reliably to my iMac then the whole thing is a waste of time andI shall have to revert to a paper diary again!
HELP!!!!! Please, before I go mad with frustration!

I'm not sure whether getting no replies to this (or the earlier) query is something of which to be proud - or terrified!
Am I the only person in the world with this bizarre insoluble problem?  if so, why me?  Am I a Chosen One or, more likely, someone to be punished for a lifetime of misdeeds!
But there is progress.  I have no idea what happened at a technical level or why, but the matter has now resolved itself and things are syncing normally.  Until the next time!
Perhaps there is a clue somewhere in the following ...
I run my iMac 24/7 and thus I rarely close iCal on the iMac and when i do it is usually by accident.  The same applies to Calendars on the iPad, although I do reboot from time to time.
Anyway, I installed some software on the iMac which required a reboot and, as susual, iCal opened via Preferences > Accounts > Startup items - only this time I was presented with a perfectly blank calendar.  A message appeared, from within iCal (oh, how I wish i had noticed what it actually said) saying something along the lines of "importing calendars".  This took a little while and it wasn't instant - maybe it does this every time it reatrts but too fast for me to notice.
After this "import", if indeed that's what it was, the syncing was corrected!
Coincidence?  Cause and effect?  Magic?  Too many magic mushrooms for breakfast?
If that is what resolved the issue, then how can I cause an import deliberately for when the syncing goes astray again and just what does an "import" do that a normal launch doesn't and which might have resolved the glitch?
I have had this "import" message before, but very very rarely, so it may well have resolved the syncing issue last time and I just didn't make the possible connection.
Does that help anyone come to my rexcue with an explanation and, possibly, a strategy for preventing or deliberatly correcting syncing issues in the future?

  • Aperture 3 and Flickr syncing back and forth

I posted some pics to flickr using Aperture 3, and later added keywords, again using Aperture 3. I couldn't get the new keywords to sync up to my flickr page, something I'd been able to do previously. I hit the broadcast sync button, but it is not adding the new keywords (tags) to Flickr. How is the best and easiest way to sync the keywords in Aperture 3 to Flickr and vise versa from Flickr to Aperture?  I would like it to keep syncing continuously also.
    Thanks

I'd love an answer to this, as well.
Using Aperture's primary competitor, the Title of the image in the IPTC data mapped directly to Flickr's title, and the Caption to Flickr's caption. I can't tell what the disconnect is with Flickr-Aperture, but I'd like to know.
    Anyone?

  • MobileMe sync problem

After upgrading to Leopard on a Macbook can't seem to enable MobileMe syncing.
I have entered my account info into System Preferences->MobileMe and can see my Account Status info, iDisk usage, etc.
But if I check the "Synchronize with MobileMe" button in System Preferences->MobileMe->Sync, the schedule pulldown and the checkboxes below of Bookmarks/Calendars/Contacts remain grayed out. And if I click anywhere else in the window after checking the "Synchronize with MobileMe" button, the button becomes unchecked.
    ?

    Hi,
You may need to click the Advanced button and Reset Sync Data but proceed with caution unless you are confident either MobileMe or your Mac contains the latest data to sync from or to. It's worth keeping a back up of your current contacts, bookmarks, calendars and such before attempting to reset sync.
Alternatively, consider opening a live chat with support, go to http://www.apple.com/support/mobileme/ click on Synching with Mobile Me > Troubleshooting MobileMe Sync issues > Chat Now.

  • Mountain Lion calendar and notes sync problems with exchange server via WLAN

After upgrading to Mountain Lion calendar and notes do not sync anymore with my exchange server via WLAN. There are no syncing problems via ethernet if WLAN is deactivated. Mail works fine with both connection types. Similar problems known? Solutions?
    Thanks for any ideas.

Exact same issue ... cropped up in the past 2 weeks. Constantly syncing and re syncing. Watching calendar events show up and disappear. Tried all the normal stuff including deleting and re setting up the entire acct ... no luck. It built out the whole calendar correctly ( from what I could tell) and then started to sync again and appointments randomly appeared and disappeared .....

  • OS X v10.7, iCal and iCloud - sync problems

BLUF: After installing OS X v.10.7, iCal will not accept my iCloud password and thus will not sync/update my calander events on the laptop to my other devices or to the cloud.  Sync-ing is fine between other devices and the cloud, so the Cloud isn't the problem.
Details: I recently allowed Lion to install it's most current update.  At the conclusion of the install, it rebooted and gave me the option to install a new version of Lion or to recover from TimeCapsule/TimeMachine.  I assume the update failed for some reason, and it was unable to reboot as planned, but it did not give me any indication of the problem nor did it provide any error messages.  I allowed it to install a new version of Lion.  Unfortunately, not a good start to an OS update.
The reinstall seemed to be ok except that it reset/changed some of my settings for mail accounts and now iCal will not log into iCloud.  I have entered the correct iCloud password and it keeps coming  back with the same dialog box saying the password is wrong and to re-enter.  I have verified both the account name and password by logging into iCloud directly which works fine.  New items place on the calendar are never synced to the cloud or to other devices, however, sincing from other devices to the cloud and back is not a problem.
Any help or suggestions appreciated.  Thanks.

Problem has been solved - for those who possibly have the same problem, I will note what I did.  The trouble-shooting guide mentioned disabling/re-enabling iCloud calendars in iCal through the System Preferences.  I noticed when I attempted to do this that iCloud wasn't there anymore.  Apparently the reinstall of Lion (after the failed upgrade from 10.7.2 to 10.7.4) required me to re-reinstall (install?) the 10.7.4 upgrade.  Once this was done, the iCal connected properly to iCloud and is syncing.
I have also now started the download on MountainLion - hopefully this is an enhancement instead of a source of new problems.

  • Aperture 3 and MobileMe Galleries created in iPhoto

I wanted to post this to hopefully help someone else should they run into the same thing.
I recently upgraded from point and shoot camera's to a higher quality camera, so I also decided that it was time to upgrade from iPhoto to something better.  I decided on Aperture as I am not quite ready to commit to the expense and time to learn something as complex as Photoshop.
Well, the first time I opened Aperture and told it to import my iPhoto library, it worked without any difficulty.  But, I noticed something was missing.  My MobileMe galleries where not displayed in the inspector window for Aperture.  I could not for the life of me, figure out how to get them to show up in there either.
I went to the Apple store and talked to some Aperture users there and no one could seem to tell me how to fix this.  It was even more frustrating because all of my photo albums from FaceBook came up in Aperture just fine.
Finally in a last ditch, hail mary pass, of an idea, I went to the web UI for my MobileMe galleries.  I figured that maybe if I edited something about those galleries, they would then show up in Aperture.
Well, I went into the properties for one of the galleries that I was not seeing in Aperture, and low and behold, there in the properties was an option to choose what application that gallery would sync to.  The only options are iPhoto or Aperture, so I changed each gallery to show Aperture as the chosen app to sync with.
Finally they now show in Aperture, of course, as you might expect, they no longer show in iPhoto.
I have no idea why the Import process does not warn you about this, and / or offer to change them for you, but it was very frustrating.
If this can help someone else new to Aperture to avoid this frustration, then I am glad.

Thanks Richard, very helpful. I wondered why I couldn't see my old mobileme galleries in Aperture.
I have swapped between iPhoto '09, Aperture 3, iPhoto '11 and now back to Aperture. Whilst I love the ease of use and relative speed of iPhoto, Aperture's adjustments and masters/versions handling has the edge for me now that my masters collection is too big for my MBP. And with a clean install of Lion my machine now seems more responsive than it has been for a while.
Changing the setting of each gallery is a bit dull, is there a global 'manage mobile me galleries with iPhoto/Aperture' setting anywhere?

  • Aperture, iPhoto, and MobileMe

I use Aperture on my iMac. My wife uses iPhoto on her iMac and doesn't have Aperture. She has published a mobileme album to a gallery we share on one mobileme account. Is there a way to sync the mobileme gallery with Aperture on my computer and iphoto on her computer or do I have to sync to iPhoto on both? I was only able to find a setting in MobileMe to choose either iPhoto or Aperture. Thanks in advance for any help.

You might want to take this to the Mobile me forum (if there is one) as it seems its not really related to Aperture itself but more to how Mobile operates.
    good luck,

  • Aperture 3 and MobileMe

    Hello,
I bought AP2 and upgraded towards AP3 (AP3.0.3 now - other information : french). During this time I just stored my photos. I've just created a web page with the "Publish to Mobile Me ..." button. The dialog box says that my page will be published at this web address : http://homepage.mac.com/..... . It is not a MobileMe address but a old .Mac address. I had a .Mac account and I have now a MobileMe account.
Do you know anything about this problem ?
    Thank you for you help

    I figured it out!!
If you publish a web page with images from within Aperture it will publish to http://homepage.mac.com/username/
This URL is Old. (??) Anyway, the published file/photos may be found in iDisk/Sites. I moved the folder to iDisk/web

  • MobileMe sync problems

I've created a couple MobileMe galleries in Aperture, and I'm finding that the syncing process is a bit odd. It seems to always upload more images than I have actually added. For example, I have one gallery that had 14 images and had already been synced the week before. I opened Aperture, added one image to that gallery and clicked the little sync "button". Looking at the activity window, it said it was uploading "1 of 4" images, and (as always) it took a lot longer than it should have. (The first time I published the gallery, with less than 10 images, it took over an hour. I could have manually built the HTML for a basic gallery, scaled several versions of the images and uploaded to my other site via FTP in that same amount of time.)
Anybody know if there is anything to be done about this? Or is this just how it is?

JPEGs are usually pretty small (that's the whole point of using JPEG is how great they can compress the size). But you've got me confused in your description of your upload. I thought in your first post (while I'm typing my reply it doesn't show me your first message) you said you had previously published some pictures to a gallery and now you are adding just 1 photo but notice that it is uploading 4 photos.
It might make more sense to you if you have a peek at what it's actually uploaded. Try this:
In Finder, open your iDisk (if it's not on your desktop or in the left margin of the Finder window you can click, from the Finder main menu: Go -> iDisk -> My iDisk (or click shiftcommandI).
Once in your iDisk, navigate to: Web -> Sites -> _gallery
You should see one or more folders whose names are just six-digit numbers (e.g. 100123). Each of these folders is a gallery you chose to publish/share via either Aperture or iPhoto. Pick any of them and open it. Inside you'll see more folders except each folder is named for a file you uploaded as part of the gallery. In other words if you had a file named IMG_1234.jpg you will instead see a folder named IMG_1234 (not .jpg extension). Open the folder and notice that inside you have several files. In the random folder I just happened to open on my own iDisk I have four files (remember you said you uploaded 1 file and it actually uploaded 4!) and they are named things like 'medium.jpg', 'msquare'.jpg, 'square.jpg', and 'web.jpg'. These are all the same image, but they've been sized or cropped differently for purposes of the various gallery layouts, thumbnails, web-viewing size, and/or larger sizes you might choose to make available if you allow visitors to download your photos.
Each 1 photo you upload in a gallery is converted into all these various sizes before uploading to your MobileMe gallery. The actual number and sizes are based on the options you chose when you published the album to your gallery.
I agree that the upload performance is slow -- but having used MobileMe (.Mac) for years, it's been my experience that they were never particularly fast. Regardless of how fast your own computer, software, or internet connection may be. I don't think the upload speed has much to do with Aperture itself -- I think it's a server side issue.
