Aperture 3 and MobileMe

Hello,
I bought AP2 and upgraded towards AP3 (AP3.0.3 now - other information : french). During this time I just stored my photos. I've just created a web page with the "Publish to Mobile Me ..." button. The dialog box says that my page will be published at this web address : http://homepage.mac.com/..... . It is not a MobileMe address but a old .Mac address. I had a .Mac account and I have now a MobileMe account.
Do you know anything about this problem ?
Thank you for you help

I figured it out!!
If you publish a web page with images from within Aperture it will publish to http://homepage.mac.com/username/
This URL is Old. (??) Anyway, the published file/photos may be found in iDisk/Sites. I moved the folder to iDisk/web

  • Aperture and mobileme = washed out picture after downloading?

    Hi,
Synced a few albums from Aperture to a few mobileme gallery's so a few friends could download the pictures very easy. One of them asked me why i screwed up the pictures because the all appeared to have a washed out look on his pc.
Tried it myself and it's true.
If i download a picture from the gallery and open in in Xee on my mac it appears to be washed out, in preview it looks ok. On a windows pc in the default picture viewer same result.
Opening the file in photoshop it appears to be ok.
Tried to talk to a mobileme support guy but he couldn't help me with it.

Don't fully understand what you are observing in Aperture. For me originals show Adobe RGB, as do the images seen in the MM gallery within Aperture, and as do Downloads from that MM gallery. (I primarily use SmugMug these days, and not MobileMe galleries).
Secondly, I don't correlate what William said with viewing of a Download -- but would perhaps with Online? Any download should view fine, unless the problem is with the viewing app? And as I said, everything I could view a download with displayed fine.
Third, another discussion, unrelated to Aperture discusses similar issues with profiles -- see:

  • Aperture and MobileMe Gallery

I have a website which was created in Aperture and uploaded to my MobileMe Gallery some time ago. Since upgrading to version 3 it seems that the gallery has lost its link with the Aperture Album. The MobileMe gallery shows 'Sync with Aperture' in the info window but the Gallery does not show in the MobileMe Gallery Section of Aperture.
Is there anyway I can re-link the Gallery and Aperture manually?
    Thanks,
    Chris

No one able to offer any insight to this issue?

  • HELP! Sudden weird behavior in Aperture and MobileMe!

So, I am running the latest version of Aperture and have been successfully publishing many albums to mobileme.
I have several external hard drives connected to my computer, and almost all of my image files in aperture are referenced. Lately I have been importing the images from SD cards directly into the aperture library, editing, then relocating the masters so that i would only store the keepers (i went this route because it was unclear to me whether or not originals were also deleted if i deleted referenced files--the pop up wording seems vague to me). I usually back up the new image files on the harddrives manually, and then back up the aperture library to a vault after every major import. I also wait until I have done this to reformat my sd cards.
Of course, this morning, something happened. We had a power outage, and although i have my entire system on UPS units, i had to shut everything down because the batteries only last so long. I did not have time to perform my usual Vault back up. I had a handful of projects with masters in the aperture library (not yet edited and masters relocated). There is one project I do not still have on sd card so that one (and inconvenience for the others) hangs in the balance.
The situation is this: When I rebooted after our power outage (i reiterate that all hard drives as well as the main mac were shut down safely and properly on battery power), all referenced file projects appear normal, but I cannot see any images in the projects with masters stored in the aperture library. The weird part is that if i put the pointer over those projects, i do get the little balloon that tells me how many versions are in each project. It's like aperture knows they are there, but I don't see them. And another weird thing--the REJECTED images from these projects DO appear when I click on the Rejected Smart Album. And the starred images from those projects DO appear when I click on the one-star-or-better smart album. I don't get it.
I also cannot see some of the mobileme galleries within aperture when i select them. When i went on-line to see my gallery, there is some weird behavior...some albums are acting strange, confusing images from other albums, or not accepting my username and password settings (I know they are right), or giving me a different album when I select one to look at.
PLEASE HELP if you can. If I need to, I can always restart from my vault version of the library and reimport last week's stuff from the sd cards, but i'd rather not do that, not to mention there is that one project i will lose.
I'm here waiting for anyone who thinks they can help!
    Thanks,
    Heather

    Hi Heather
I was wondering if I was the only one with this problem. Unfortunately I don't have an answer. I'm running Aperture 2 on a MacBook, with my library on an external drive. The problem is increasing; it seems that most (but not all) recent projects are affected, but none that I created before the problem first started.

  • Aperture and MobileMe galleries

    Hi,
I have the problem that the sorting criteria of my MobileMe galleries always change during the synchronisation process. I want the newest images to be shown on top. That's why I choose "date" as criteria. When I sync the gallery the sort criteria is set to "manual" automatically and the oldest images are shown on top.
I hoped that the newest update solves this problem but that is not the case It's still the same situation.
It is really annoying because you never know how your images show up in the MobileMe gallery.
    I use Aperture 3.0.2 on a Macbook Pro 15'' with 2,4 GHz C2D.
    Thanks for your feedback.
    markus

I think you are talking about the order of the Galleries here. If so it is very easy to change them but certainly not intuitive to say the least. You need to log onto your MobileMe account through a web browser. The easiest way to get there is: Apple Menu: System Preference: MobileMe button: Account tab: Account Details button.
You then log in with your name and password.
Click on the Gallery tab (sunflower) and you can drag your MobileMe Galleries into whatever order you want. You can also change the main Gallery name here.
Now I'd be real happy if I could make multiple sites and not just additional albums in the same site.

  • Aperture and MobileMe Sync

Syncing photos out of Aperture to a MobileMe Gallery results in missing photos and double photos in the web gallery. Workflow as follows: selected and marked Photos in my Library, clicked MobileMe button, created new MobileMe Gallery, waited sync to be complete, checked result: 305 photos in the web gallery, 435 photos in my Aperture MobileMe album. Seems the sync comes with some bugs and flaws. Help highly appreciated!

I'm still having trouble with the same problem as described. I've followed the instructions as described below which make perfect sense...
@ Rienzo: Currently MobileMe will only sync photos with one program at a time. You need to go to www.me.com, go to the gallery page, and for each album change the setting to sync photos from iPhoto to Aperture. The settings button looks like a light switch on the top bar.
... After selecting an album and the "light switch", I don't see the option listed to chose Aperture. Under the Album Settings dialog, there are three choices under "Allow", two under "Show", and one under "Advanced" non of which allow the selection with respect to Aperture vs. iPhoto others are seeing; where am I going wrong here?
OS-X is up to date as are all applications.

  • Aperture and MobileMe - Unable to make galleries

Anyone else having this issue... If I try and make a gallery of say anything that is over 20 photos it takes Aperture FOREVER to upload and then always gives me some error after say 30 minutes saying it was unable. Only after I try uploading the same album a few times does it seem to finally upload. What gives?

I'm also having a problem though slightly different. SInce upgrading to Aperture 2.1.1 now my Web Galleries (now Mobile Me galleries) only upload small screen resolution jpgs even though I am setting it correctly to upload the original files. I've tried deleting the galleries in question and building new ones but I get the same results. I hate to be down on Apple because there's so many people out there that will begrudge them anything but the Mobile Me debacle is obviously not over yet.

  • Aperture 3 and MobileMe Galleries created in iPhoto

I wanted to post this to hopefully help someone else should they run into the same thing.
I recently upgraded from point and shoot camera's to a higher quality camera, so I also decided that it was time to upgrade from iPhoto to something better.  I decided on Aperture as I am not quite ready to commit to the expense and time to learn something as complex as Photoshop.
Well, the first time I opened Aperture and told it to import my iPhoto library, it worked without any difficulty.  But, I noticed something was missing.  My MobileMe galleries where not displayed in the inspector window for Aperture.  I could not for the life of me, figure out how to get them to show up in there either.
I went to the Apple store and talked to some Aperture users there and no one could seem to tell me how to fix this.  It was even more frustrating because all of my photo albums from FaceBook came up in Aperture just fine.
Finally in a last ditch, hail mary pass, of an idea, I went to the web UI for my MobileMe galleries.  I figured that maybe if I edited something about those galleries, they would then show up in Aperture.
Well, I went into the properties for one of the galleries that I was not seeing in Aperture, and low and behold, there in the properties was an option to choose what application that gallery would sync to.  The only options are iPhoto or Aperture, so I changed each gallery to show Aperture as the chosen app to sync with.
Finally they now show in Aperture, of course, as you might expect, they no longer show in iPhoto.
I have no idea why the Import process does not warn you about this, and / or offer to change them for you, but it was very frustrating.
If this can help someone else new to Aperture to avoid this frustration, then I am glad.

Thanks Richard, very helpful. I wondered why I couldn't see my old mobileme galleries in Aperture.
I have swapped between iPhoto '09, Aperture 3, iPhoto '11 and now back to Aperture. Whilst I love the ease of use and relative speed of iPhoto, Aperture's adjustments and masters/versions handling has the edge for me now that my masters collection is too big for my MBP. And with a clean install of Lion my machine now seems more responsive than it has been for a while.
Changing the setting of each gallery is a bit dull, is there a global 'manage mobile me galleries with iPhoto/Aperture' setting anywhere?

  • Aperture 3 and MobileMe are now solved?

I am still on with Aperture 2.1.4 and have just had trouble with creating a new MobileMe gallery again, as Aperture remarks after it has uploaded the previews and made the gallery - til there is all fine - it could not communicate with MobileMe. This comes further if I like to made some changes to the gallery within Aperture and try to sync them - nothing happens, only the error comes up. This bug is til I upgraded my system to SL and Aperture 2.1.4. Any idea? Does Aperture 3 still has this bug or is it solved?

Okay ... further to my original note ... has anyone seen this?
Using Aperture 3 and MobileMe ... do you need to create unique passwords for each album?
(that seemed to fix the generic password on multiple albums)
No I have not seen this kind of problem, and no you shouldn't need unique passwords for each album.
I have specific groups that I regularly share sets of albums with. When I create a new MobileMe album, I specify which group has access (or limit the access later via the Aperture-MobileMe album settings). I established the group name (and password) once. For subsequent albums I just specify that group. If I use the Tell A Friend... option to announce a new album, it will share the group/username and password.
IF I enable uploading additional photos via e-mail, that does create a unique/generic e-mail address for each album -- has to as you want any photos to upload to THAT album.
I know this answers your question, but quite likely does not provide a solution. If you can be more specific as to EXACTLY what steps you are taking I might be able to replicate your process and offer a specific solution. Hopefully the pieces I've offered may help you find a solution though?
    Best wishes!

  • Aperture 3: Watermarks with Facebook, Flickr, and MobileMe

I am pleased that Apple has released Aperture 3. I have not had the chance to download the 30-day trial or play with it in an Apple store yet. For those of you who have, do you know if Apple has enabled (visible) watermarking as part of the sharing on Facebook, Flickr, and MobileMe? I don't post images without visible watermarks to the Internet without one.
What I currently do with Aperture 2.x is export the images (as .jpg) into a folder adding a watermark as part of the export preset, then import them back into Aperture and then post to MobileMe, Facebook, or Flickr. I am hoping that Aperture 3 eliminates the need for these extra steps.
If it doesn't have this ability, does anyone do anything similar that might be more streamlined?

Thank you folks for your suggestions. I just purchased Aperture 3 and needed to create a watermark. I was able to accomplish this using the steps below.
    1. Scan the watermark into the computer or create it with an editing application. (I scanned my signature into my computer and saved it as a jpg. If you are worried about someone having your signature you may want to use a printed watermark.)
    2. Open the scanned image in a photo editing application. (I used Photoshop even though I am very uncomfortable with its complexity.)
    3. Adjust the size of the image using the," Image Size", tool under "Image" column in the Menu. (Do not use the Canvas Size tool. It did not work for me.)
    4. Place the Layers palette on the desktop by selecting, "Layers" in the Window column at the end of the Menu.
    5. Double click on the background icon in the Layers palette to open a new layer. It should be Layer 0.
    6. Click, "OK".
    7. Next select the Magic Wand in the tools palette and touch the background of the image. Click on the background to select the background. Click delete to make the the background disappear. The watermark should remain without the background.
    8. If there are any areas enclosed in a loop, like a zero or, "O", take the magic wand and select the enclosed area to highlight it. Remove this area with the delete button. You can put the copyright mark on the image if you like by typing it next to your watermark.
    9. Go to, "Save As", and save the image as a psd file where you can find it.
    10. Quit the application and open Aperture and go to the preference folder for Aperture.
    11. Select the Export icon and activate the, "Email photo export", preset button.
    12. Select edit and go to, "Choose Image", to select your watermark with the transparent background.
    13. Select a new preset on the right and name your new watermark.
    14. The new watermark will appear in the, "Email photo export" options.

  • Aperture - iWeb - MobileMe...  WORKFLOWS WANTED!

I come seeking advice, and hoping this online essay will spark some discussion on the much-needed integration of Apple-apps online photo sharing and display capabilities -- and I promise to keep the rants to a minimum...
    *What I'm trying to do:*
Create a series of Aperture-published (or at least Aperture-based, since that's where my pictures reside) photo pages, pages on which visitors can...
    1) Quickly peruse the thumbs (with column&row arrangement, sizing, and framing options all determined by me), while also reading some descriptive text I've provided re the overall event being showcased;
    2) View individual shots at a modest but adjustable display size in Slideshow mode (with transition options I've set), and simultaneously see the associated Caption, Date and whatever other Aperture-stored metadata I've chosen to be displayed for that set of images; and then, if they so desire...
    3) Download selected images at their original, FULL-pixel dimensions (assuming I've set the page to allow that).
    4) PLUS, I want to have each of these individual pages indexed on an iWeb "Album Page", which allows for the contents of each individual photo page to be mouse-skimmed before actually clicking and going to that page.
    *An Impossible Dream?*
Not really. Everything I've just described is relatively easy to do -- but only in bits and pieces, it appears -- using Aperture, Aperture-published MobileMe Albums (aka Galleries) and Aperture-published Web Pages, iWeb '09, iWeb's Media Browser, and a MobileMe account. So now I find myself playing Dr. Frankenstein (that's "Fronkensteen"), and trying to stitch together a new form of photographic life online.
In other words, I'm just trying to create the kind of truly functional and flexible photo pages which SHOULD be a no-brainer by now, since all the features I'm imagining already exist! (Then again, I shouldn't ask for too much -- I mean it's not like Aperture, iWeb, and the MobileMe service are all from the same company, right?)
    *In OTHER other words...*
I want to publish Gallery-esque pages from Aperture, but ones which automatically include and display whatever combination of Caption, Title, Date, or any other Metadata I select. And ones which can be INDIVIDUALLY indexed on an iWeb Album Page, as opposed to simply dragging in iWeb's MobileMe widget (which so far as I can tell just gives you a single link to ALL your Galleries in one quick but inelegant whack).
    OR...
I want to publish Aperture Web Pages, but ones which aren't given a ludicrous "homepage.mac" URL (cripes, how old is THAT code?), and which can be easily seen by iWeb once published, so they can then be dragged into iWeb Album pages for convenient indexing and one-stop skimability by the user. (Also, pages for which Aperture has some sort of "Settings / Visit Page / Announce Site" pull-down button as it does for every MobileMe Gallery -- that's just being consistent.)
    OR...
I want iWeb's Media Browser to let me select and drag into iWeb the contents of specific Aperture Projects and/or Albums, but with all Caption, Date, and other metadata for the selected images included, AND (if I so choose) at their FULL resolution -- rather than only at their currently-designated Preview size, which is now the case.
    *Whichever way you describe it...*
I'm not really asking for anything all that new, just for some long-overdue integration between the already-existing photo-publishing abilities of Aperture, iWeb, and MobileMe. But before I start submitting more pages of "isn't this obvious?" input to their respective Feedback sites, I'd love to get anyone's thoughts, reactions, or best of all, suggestions as to how to at least partially achieve, the kind of Aperture-based photo publishing & sharing sites I'm still hoping to create.
Many thanks (if only for reading this far!),
    John Bertram
    Toronto

Many thanks to both David and Bob for the above posts -- it's just nice to know I'm not alone in this frustration.
Sometimes I desperately wish Apple would appoint a CAO (Cross-Application Ombudsman), a "Minister for Inter-Application Affairs", someone whose only job was to track the functions and features in different Apple apps, to correlate that understanding with relevant user input from a dedicated AppleWorkflows Feedback page, and whose mandate was to then:
    a) make sure that the interface of each app behaved in a consistent and predictable manner (so that, for example, Option-clicking a disclosure triangle in a Viewer window list of video filters in FinalCut had the same functionality as Option-clicking a disclosure triangle in a Finder window list of folders and sub-folders -- which it currently DOES NOT);
    and
    b) - most importantly - make sure the individual apps talked to each fluently and interacted in logical, productive ways (the subject of this thread being a prime example of where that's NOT happening).
This person would have the authority to force the programmers working on different apps to actually talk to each other BEFORE new versions get released; to imagine intelligent, creative ways in which the different apps should interact-- and then require the programmers to implement those scenarios. Essentially, the CAO's only reason for coming to work each day would be to oversee the conception, development and implementation of cross-app workflows which benefit and free up (rather than block and frustrate) the multi-Apple-apps user.
The key is that this person (or persons) would have to be given some real power -- not just to recommend, but in many cases to actually require. (For instance, this person would long ago have required the Aperture team to release a free update which no longer published anything to a "homepage.mac" URL. All together now: "Duh".)
And, as mentioned above, they would have their own separate and well-publicized AppleWorkflows Feedback Page (plus a dedicated public discussion forum as well?), to which users would be actively encouraged to submit their ideas on Inter-App problems and possibilities.
Call me crazy -- but that's my dream, and I ain't givin' it up.

  • New to Apple and Aperture-I am surprised at the lack of integration between Aperture and applications as iMovie.

Aperture slideshow is terrible in terms of entering any text on a photo.  It appears that you have to export the photos from Aperture to the desktop to import the photos to iMovie to be able to add quite good text to individual photos. While I am new to the Apple system (I am quite knowledgable in Windows), I am surprised that iMovie cannot import an Album or a Project from Aperture.  It does not appears possible to to copy and paste from Aperture to the project created in iMovie without exporting to the desktop.  This seems like a step backwards.
Since I come from Windows I will be importing most of my photos into Lightroom3 and doing  most of my work.  Yet, there are features in Aperture that I like and will probably use both for the time being.  I am using Aperture 3 and iLife11.  New Macbook Pro

I read the manuals and watched the tutorials on the Apple web site as well as F1 in Aperture and never saw a reference to using Windows menu to list photos in iMovie.  I check this and it does seem to work.  however, you must admit that the procedure for adding text on a photo is limited as compare to iMovie.  Maybe, it is because I want to add text to a photo for posting on Mobileme or other photo posting sites so friends can view the photos in a slideshow or one by one.
I assume that you can answer this question. Since I was exporting photos to the desktop so I could import them in iMovie, if I delete the folder on the desktop will they disappear form the project in iMovie?  Since I do not like a lot of folders on the desktop can I move them to the Pictures folder and not loose the project links in iMovie?

  • How to add uploaded photos (not from aperture) in Mobileme Gallery to a project

I shared some photos using a mobileme gallery where I allowed friends to upload their photos to the gallery.  Now the gallery exists with both the photos from my aperture library (and project) and my friends photos (which appear in aperture with a little symbol).
I would like to have the photos that were uploaded by my friends to be added to a new project without moving or erasing them in the mobileme gallery.  Is there a simple way to do this? I know if I select photos from a project and drag and drop them to another project aperture moves the photos but I don't know if this is how aperture handles mobileme galleries in the inspector.
    Jeff

Just drag an image from the MobileMe Gallery to a project it will copy the image, not move it. Aperture will move images that are stored locally in the library but since these images uploaded by friends are only stored on the MobileMe servers, Aperture will make a copy when you drag them to a project.

  • Aperture to MobileMe gallery - shots are not sharp

I use both Zenfolio and MobileMe and export from Aperture 2 to both of these sites, but my photos on MobileMe look a bit fuzzy on MobileMe, while they look great in Zenfolio. Anyone have this issue or have any tips?
    THanks,
    Peter

I also want to add to what Mr Endo said...
    A) It shouldn't be possible to select a folder and then have the option of publishing to Mobile Me, Facebook or Flickr. For me those are all grayed out when I have a folder selected in the sidebar.
    B) Are you referring to a project or an album by chance? If so, then you will need to select the photos, in the Browser, before choosing to upload to an online service.
    Cheers,
    Owen

  • Aperture with Mobileme

I have uploaded pictures from within Aperture to Mobileme and have had no problems getting them there. The problem is the picture Size, they are coming in at about 250k every photo with some going to 300k. This may not be a problem for fast broadband, however we live in a very slow broadband Rural Area. I need pictures at about 60 - 100 k max but i cant find the settings in Aperture or Mobileme. I can see the Email size in aperture but no picture Export settings. Can anybody help me with this problem.

Hi, as I stated in another post, I am curious to hear the answer to this question. MobileMe publish function doesn't have any controls for size and compression, unless I'm missing something.
I have to figure out another way -- publishing to MobileMe using the normal web export function. Suggestions?

  • Aperture moving mobileme albums, won't stop, won't quit ! I have these images on HD

    Aperture 3.2.4
I have a progress bar which tells me 'Moving MobileMe alums ...'
    I can't stop it (no x button ) I can't quit the app.
I can't use the app & I have the images on my hard drive.
I did ot initiate this action it's just taken over
    I'm really annoyed.
    Any thoughts
    D

Relaunch Aperture, and click on the Learn Moe link -- ignore the resulting web page.  The go into Aperture Preferences/Web and remove any reference to MobileMe account info.  Then in System Preferences log out of MobileMe.
