Aperture 3 doesn't export brushed sharpening

I've seen blog posts about this issue, and confirmed myself. I used the sharpening brush adjustment on a portrait to make the eyes sparkle and when I export the image all adjustments are incorporated except for the brushed sharpening (haven't tested the other brushes). I confirmed by exporting the file from the brush sharpened version, then pulling the exported file back in. Comparing side by side in full screen shows that the brushed sharpening doesn't take on the export. In fact, it looks just like the "version" with the brushed sharpening turned off. If attachments were allowed, I would include the comparison, but it's pretty clear and I'm not the only one to observe this. I implore you to test it yourselves, and hope that someone from Apple is listening ...

Hi,
I'm having the same issue, like many (too many) people...I've searched on the web but no solutions nor suggestions...brushed sharpening doesn't show in the exported version, no way.
...another frustrating issue in a almost totally (for me) compromised software, simply unusable and unaffordable for even an amateur photographer like I am.
I'm running Aperture 3.0.3 on iMac 20"+SL 10.6.3 and macbookpro 13" unibody late 2009+SL 10.6.3...same issue on both, doesn't matter export preset nor jpeg or tiff or whatever...images are raw files from Canon 30D and Canon 350D...(and I don't mention the green and magenta cast issues too...one disaster after another...).
I tried several times with the same, frustrating, result: no brushed sharpening at all in the exported version, even with freshly imported images with only this adjustment applied.
I really hope that a solution will come...I had to roll back to Raw Update 3.1 because of the horrible magenta and green cast on the images, spent weeks to "fix" this (no solution from Apple), had several other issues and now this too.....not to mention the fact that I stopped from upgrading to SL 10.6.4 because of added issues reported from many users....that's simply ...well, I have no words left to comment on this...and I'm really sorry because I loved this product, really....a total waste of money and time until today, that is Aperture 3 for me...
Sorry for my complaining...but I'm totally discouraged...totally.
Best regards,
Alberto

  • Aperture cannot read RAW exported from IDC?

When I shoot RAW with the kit lens of my nex6 it usually get distorted pretty bad. So what I'm trying to do is first open it up with Sony's image editor called IDC (latest version) and then export the RAW file from IDC then import that fixed file back into Aperture. However for some odd reason when Aperture imports a IDC exported file, not only is the distortion not fixed but the photo now has this weird green cast to it.
How do I fix this? I've already tried regenerating previews, that doesn't help.

TIFF would be the better call.  "Truly lossless" is difficult to say; changes are "baked in" to the RAW file on the conversion.
Still, the PTlens plugin recommended in another thread is probably the better call:

  • Is it possible to export brush presets from Lightroom 4?

    Hello all,
Is it possible to export brush presets from Lightroom 4?  I created custom brush presets on my laptop and I would like to export them and import them onto my desktop if at all possible.  Did a bit of research online and could only find this link which only applies to 'Presets' in general, http://help.adobe.com/en_US/lightroom/using/WS2A36C507-E076-4b14-AAC3-87852595D175.html.  Please let me know if this is possible or not as this would be a great time saver.
    Thank you!

Brush Presets are stored in the "Local Adjustment Presets" sub-folder within the Lightroom settings folder structure. The location of the latter varies by Operating System, or if you have "Store Presets with Catalog" checked in your Lightroom Preferences (Presets Tab)....easiest way to locate them is go to that Presets Tab on the Preferences dialog and click on "Show Lightroom Presets Folder"....that will open a Finder/Explorter window with the Lightroom folder showing. Open that folder, find the Local Adjustment Presets sub-folder and copy the brush preset .lrtemplate files to your desktop. Repeat the process on the desktop to locate the Local Adjustment Presets sub-folder, then simply copy the brush presets into it. They should then show up in Lightroom on the desktop (you may need to restart Lightroom first).

  • Movie in Keynote doesn't export properly for QuickTime

Hello all. I really hope someone can help with this. I've used the discussions before with great success so THANK YOU all for sharing your expertise.
I've got a keynote presentation that for the most part exports perfectly on QuickTime. The only part that doesn't export right are the 2 videos I've got on the presentation. I set the timing with the inspectors for it to start automatically and even added a song to play along with the presentation. But when I export it, there is about an extra minute and 15 seconds added to the whole video and I've got the presentation timed perfectly with keynote and the song. I've got iWork '09 and QT 10.0. Not pro just player.
I've played with the custom settings to no avail. Any way to get the videos to export exactly to their lengths?
    Cheers

I don't know if this is the answer you're looking for but I'll share my experience. Like you, I have three videos in my presentation. Once I exported it as a QT movie, the delays that I built in with the Inspector to allow the movie to play before the next slide transition, played AFTER the video ran. I went back and just put in a 1.5 second delay in and the videos run fine. I'm guessing that QT sees the video and allows it to play and THEN looks at the Delay setting.
Now if someone can just tell me how to get the audio soundtrack to shut down during my three videos but play during the rest of the presentation...

  • Sharpness APERTURE vs iPHOTO~file exported from Aperture worse than iPhoto

    HEY.
i'm recently using Aperture for my Photo Editing work.I found that everything Good and Perfect after fine tune and preview in the Window of Aperture...while Export it to the Jpeg (originaly image import from jpeg file) I found it's a bit loose from what i see in the Window Aperture...means,Loose the Sharpness...whole image getting un-sharp or s'ld i say added gausion blur of feel??
Once i import it(the one exported from Aperture) into iPhoto and Export it (even down size to 800 of diamention) it became Sharp and nice colour tone while compare with the one which Export from Aperture!!!!
    Why?
In the Export setting of Aperture i do set the Quality to max 12 and 300dpi even...
    Need your hand...thanks!!

WARNING! The sharpness problem is occurring in iPhoto modifications as well! I'm running Tiger and Leopard at the same time on 2 different computers - SAME EXACT SHARPNESS problems. The problem is NOT the OS - it's in the APPLE Photo Aps!

  • Aperture 2.1.3 Export Problems with Cropped Photos

I ran into an odd problem after updating to 2.1.3. I was trying to upload to a Picasa album via "aperture-picasa-plugin", which I had used before without problems. The resulting export had problems with two photos I had cropped from landscape to portrait size. The resulting exports had the entire uncropped/original content "squeezed" into a photo matching the cropped size, so the exported pics were squished making everything look tall and skinny. (I found it especially odd that stuff I had cropped out was back in, but the size was cropped.)
I assumed it was a problem with the plugin, so I exported to a file straight from Aperture and had the same problem. I had other crops that worked OK, but they appear to all be landscape to landscape with no change in aspect ratio.
Is anyone else having this problem?

    YES!
I have seen this show up as well. I'm also using Aperture 2.1.3. I too thought it was the fault of the picasa plugin... but when I, like you, started doing my exports directly to files I noticed that they still had the same problem.
The horizontal 16x9 seems to be particularly vulnerable... And, yes, it almost looks as if the (pre-crop) master has been "squished" into the aspect ratio of the (post-crop) version. It is very strange, very annoying, and very intermittent. Although, I found that if I quit aperture, restart then re-export... I have better luck.
Boy, am I relieved to find somebody else who is having this problem. For a while there I thought I was going nuts.

  • Lightroom 5 doesn't export with a maximum long edge as instructed

What is going on with Lightroom 5?  I upgraded from 4 and now it doesn't export with a maximum long edge of 2166 pixels even though that is what it is being told to do.

    Hi Jim,
It fails to shorten to the maximum long edge requested, leaving longer-edged files in the exported folder.
Never had this problem with Lightroom4.  Just upgraded to 5.  My operating system is Windows Pro 8.
    Thank you for your time.

I have imported my pictures into aperture, how do I export into jpeg files so i can share files with friends who dont use aperture ?

If you want the same export settings on some or all of the images you can select all that have the same export requirements and export them as a group.
If all the images have the same requirements then you can select them all and run the export command.

  • Canon 5d aperture ring doesn't work

Canon 5d  aperture ring doesn't work

So this is a 5D II?  That's an important detail.
In "M" (Manual) mode, the default is that the front dial controls the shutter speed, and the rear dial controls the aperture IF you throw the switch in the position which enables the rear dial.  The power switch has three positions... (1) "OFF", (2) "ON", and (3) a position with a line drawn connecting to the rear dial.  The power switch must be in the position that points to the rear dial or it wont work to control aperture.
In P, Av, or Tv mode the rear dial will control exposure compensation (but only after you activate metering.)  Again... the switch has to be in the position that points to the rear dial.
This is how Canon handles the rear dial lock function and I've known 5D II shooters who hadn't realized this nuance.  On the 5D III is a bit more straight forward because the on/off switch is just an on/off switch and there's a seperate switch near the rear dial labeled "Lock" which disables the rear dial.
Some photographers want to disable the rear dial because they feel it's too easy to accidentally bump it when setting up for a shot and get unintended exposures.

  • Aperture 3.6 not exporting jpg versions at 300dpi despite preset selected

Hi, Aperture 3.6 is not exporting jpg versions (of Nikon RAW) files at 300dpi despite 300dpi being selected in the preset.
Jpgs are being exported at 72dpi although Tiffs are being exported correctly.
I'm guessing it's a recurrence of the previous Aperture bug but while we wait for a fix, does anyone have a solution please?
I'm currently exporting Tiffs and then using a Photoshop batch action to save as jpgs - not a great workflow!
    TIA

  • Aperture 3 and Facebook exporting???  doesn't update

So I tried the new Facebook exporter from Aperture 3. You can only put pics in a new Facebook album, or drag them into an album that you have created from within Aperture 3. But when I add photos by dragging them, they do not show up on Facebook. Aperture 3 says they are there, but they are not on Facebook. How do I add photos to an album? Anyone else have this bug in Aperture 3?

After you drag new photos into the Facebook album, you have to click on the little radar-wave-looking icon to re-sync the album. I think there is a setting somewhere to make it auto-refresh, but by default they're manually synced.
It's annoying that you can't seem to connect to an existing Facebook album. Hopefully they'll fix that.
It would also be nice if you could connect to more than 1 Facebook account (I don't think you can) -- my wife and I keep our shared photo collection on Aperture, but I think only one of us can use it to sync photos to Facebook.

  • Aperture 3.1 doesn't export lens metadata

When I export images from Aperature (File->Export->Version), they are missing lens metadata.
I exported a master version of an image and a version of the same image.
I open both the master and the version in DxO.
The master contains lens metadata with a value of "18-105mm f/3.5-5.6" and the version is simply blank.
This is a fresh copy of Aperature 3.1, with no plugins, and I can repeat this behavior for any master image that contains lens metadata.
Is this a bug that will be fixed in a Aperature update? This is a very frustrating bug.

I bought AP 3.1 after my metadata nightmares with iPhoto '09 (I wasn't going to pay for '11). AP 3 has some nice features (like iPhoto on steroids) and its metadata handling is much better than iPhoto. But this bug is really, really messing with my photo processing workflow.
I'm going to keep looking for a solution (I haven't had the time thus far) and will update the thread. Thanks for the confirmation of the bug, and the commiseration

  • Aperture not responding after using a sharpening brush

anyone have a problem with aperture not responding after makeing a mod to a pic

What is your Aperture version?  Aperture 2 and 1 do not work well with MacOS X 10.9.3.

  • Solution for Aperture's aspect ratio/export bug?

take an image, then use the crop tool to crop it to a 'perfect' 2x3 or 3x2 aspect ratio.
    now export the image.
    my case?
Canon 350D images, cropped to 2x3, exported to 'within 750x510' with the purpose of getting an image of 340x510 pixels.
    the result? 340x509.
the only way to get a correct export size is to manually change the crop dimensions in the HUD; very inefficient; and sometimes this doesn't work either. rather than getting 340x510, Aperture sometimes skips to 339x510.
it's especially difficult to export images in my favourite mobile size: 174x204, even when using the equivalent 29:34 aspect ratio to crop the image.
    any ideas?

    found it.
first, I had to extend the length parameter of the Export preset far beyond my goal of 204 pixels and rely on the 174 width and aspect ratio to automatically calculate the final exported length of 204.
next, I had to manually increase the crop length of the image, 1 or 2 pixels at a time, and export each time until Aperture exported my exact required dimensions. it only took 8 tries!!
