Aperture 3 edit country in places

is there any way to edit country in places? i have a problem with locations near a border. when i add location the center point and circle are clearly in a correct country (from the start), and when i add a place to my places it places it in neighbouring country. as i could not find a way to edit the country i have  deleted and repeated the process several times - and i always get the same result. it s most annoying when a relatively famous landmark is placed in a wrong country!
is there any way to edit the country? or do i have to pt the pin further away from the border in a wrong location just t get the correct country?
thanks

Can you give us an example of a place that has been assigned to a wrong country? The places I have visited so far, have all been assigned correctly.
You are talking about the countries you see in the drop down lists in the Places map view, right? These counties are assigned from a network based data base, that you cannot manipulate yourself. I suspect there are some wrong entries, so you might send a feedback to Apple, using the feedback form from the Aperture menu -> Provide Feedback.
You can,  however, set the IPTC core tags from the Metadata panel in the Library Inspector. That way, your images at least will have correct location tags when you export them, even if these tags will not be used in Places view.

  • Aperture 3 Import Iphoto Places

Dear All, I just installed Aperture 3 Trial. Imported all my iphoto library to aperure 3. Projects photos and faces are all ok but i don't see any places pin in the map. What can I do?

I reported it as a bug to Apple, with specific instructions on how to reproduce the problem.
I suggest you do the same.
You can see what I found to be the specific situation in which Places is, and isn't, imported from iPhoto to Aperture in this thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=11229662#11229662
At least in my research, there is a workaround: Take all the Events in iPhoto which you assigned Places data at the Event level (those are the problems for Aperture Import, I've found), go into the event, select all photos in that event, and assign a Place location to them all. For whatever reason, when I assign the Place to the individual photos it gets transferred to Aperture; when I assign Place location to the Event as a whole, it does not. Buggy, but at least there is a workaround.
I am waiting for Apple to fix this bug and another one before I make the transition from iPhoto 09 to Aperture 3. In the meantime, I was just playing with A3 to see whether I like it. I do. I just don't want to lose any of the work I already did in iPhoto when I move my 17,000 photos over to Aperture.
BTW, the other thing Aperture loses when I import my iPhoto library are the Titles I've assigned to photos. A picture in iPhoto that has a meaningful Title I assigned to it gets imported into Aperture as just DSC12345xxx, losing my manual labor. Not acceptable.

  • I am trying to edit my Google Place page but the edit site is flashing and won't take any information...Bing business page as well...works fine on IE. IT guy says that I should uninstall firefox and then reinstall???

When I click on edit for Google places (or BING business site) the site flashes...strange numbers appear the map flashes on and off and finally gets timed out where the message is "Slow down, you are working too fast for Google"
The edit function works fine in IE but, of course, my preference is FIREFOX...IT guy says uninstall Firefox and reinstall???

Someone recently noted a problem staying logged on the Huffington Post since it became connected with AOL. The workaround for that is to change your connection setting here:
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced > Network
Click the "Settings" button and choose either "No Proxy" or "Use System Settings" option, and OK the change.
Not sure whether Washington Post could be affected by that same setting.
In reviewing your extensions, I'm puzzled that you have both DoNotTrackMe and SavvyConnect. The first one seems to aggressively block certain communications with websites (potentially affecting functionality) while the second one seems to report on your browsing habits (they better pay well is all I can say). Have you tried disabling both of those to see whether that has any effect?

  • Why aren't Aperture edits reflected on the iPad?

When I update a photo in Aperture, why won't the changes show up on the iPad? I removed red eye from one image and cropped another. Despite multiple syncs, updating previews, etc., the iPad still shows the unedited versions and nothing I do seems to change this. Other changes to my library (such as adding or deleting photos, updating albums, etc.) are reflected on the iPad, but not adjustments to a photo once the image is on the iPad.

This continues to be frustrating. I've tried forcing Aperture to regenerate previews on this project, which took awhile (689 photos), then went through the sync process again. I also created an album with just the two photos that I had edited (one cropped, one red eye removal), reasoning that it would be a brand new preview for those.
When I synced again, watching the process in iTunes I saw that it recreated all the previews for that project in the iPod cache. But when I opened the photos app on the iPod, I saw the original, unedited photos again! Uncropped, and with red eye (in both albums).
I'm reluctant to delete the entire ipod photo cache; it contains 5,726 items and would probably take forever in Aperture and forever again to transfer all those photos to the iPad (I have the quality setting bumped up for the previews). Besides, it seems that what I already did deleted and recreated the cache items for the photos in question. I've looked in vain for an Aperture preferences setting that would tell it to use the versions rather than the masters, but there doesn't seem to be any such option. Does Aperture always default to the masters only when it generates previews?
I did try PhotoSync, and it's not bad. However, it seems more geared toward sending photos TO your computer rather than the other way around. I did download the Mac client app, too, and sent some photos to my iPad, including the ones I was working with. It got the right ones, something that Aperture/iTunes can't seem to do. Unfortunately, it puts all the photos sent into its own database, rather than the iPad Photo app (though when I set it up I was able to have it include all the Aperture items initially). So if I used that, I'd end up having photos in two places. I'd just like to be able to have them in one place on the iPad.
I guess I'll try the other suggestion, to export them and reimport them.

  • Aperture - Edit with External Editor - Photoshop

    Hi,
I recently made my first attempt via Aperture to "Edit with External Editor" and in my case I have the preferences set to export to Photoshop CS4 Extended. The External Editor File Format (in preferences) selected is TIFF and as advised by Apple's Help menu this is set at 16-bit. The External Editor Color Spaces is set to Adobe-RGB (1998).
I selected an image with some barrel distortion, hit the export button, and Aperture sent the new master to Photoshop. I did my fixing and saved. This automatically sends the updated file to Aperture. This is very handy and practical but I was shocked to see the size of the new and fixed file. The original file was a JPEG at 4MB and the new fixed file was a colossal 200+ MB file. I ended up throwing away the new file - too large.
I am just wondering if this is normal? This is my first time using the Edit with External Editor in Aperture and I am also quite clueless about using Photoshop efficiently and properly. Could I have done something differently and received the new and fixed file at a smaller size?
Thanks for your advice and help.

    This is normal.
TIFF files get rather large and the 200 MB sounds about right. If I send a 1.63 MB JPEG at the same settings in PS CS5, I get a 134 MB TIFF after applying the Lens Correction filter and saving.
If I send the same file as a TIFF 8-bit in Adobe-RGB (1998), I get back a 54.73 MB file.
You could therefore send as an 8-bit TIFF to reduce the size. Additionally, the PSD format tends to return a slightly smaller file size (51.xx MB in the case here).
A JPEG file is actually only an 8-bit file, so it isn't really necessary to go to 16-bit, but many users like to protect against further degradation of the JPEG when editing externally (especially from posterization where smooth gradients - such as a sky - start to break down into visible steps in the color transition).
I personally send as TIFF 8-bit in the sRGB color space and if the image shows degradation, then I might change to the TIFF 16-bit (or simply not use that image).

  • Images from Aperture edited in CC2014 returning to Aperture or exported with fogged appearance. suggestions?

New glitch just showing up after updating to CC2014.  Images opened in PS appear great.  When returned with a SAVE to Aperture they appear fogged or as though an excessive shadow control has been applied. Suggestions?

If the images appear as intended in Photoshop then the problem is likely with Aperture and I suspect very few of the regulars on this Forum are concerned with that application.
Especially as it is being discontinued …
What are the Edit > Color Settings anyway?
What file format do you save and do you embed the Color Profile?

  • Aperture 3.0.3 Places appears to be missing all cities in Israel?

I was trying to use places to add location information for photos in aperture from a recent trip to Israel. The map in Aperture has cities for the surrounding countries but none appeared in Israel. Any ideas if this is a 'feature' in Aperture to omit all locations in Israel or some setting I have overlooked?
    Any help is appreciated.

This is true of the Places feature in iPhoto and more than one person has opined that this is a security request from the Israeli government to Google (who provide the maps look up.)

  • Aperture editing

When using an external editor in aperture, it converts the image to .tiff. Is there an easy way to convert these back to .jpg other than exporting them as .jpg and reimporting them as .jpg. If I do this will I lose any of the edited image. What is best , .tiff or .jpg?

When using an external editor in aperture, it converts the image to .tiff.
It will convert the image to "TIFF" or "PSD", depending on your settings in "Aperture > Preferences > Advanced" for "External Editor File Format".
JPEG is no option for the external editor, because the conversion to JPEG is lossy. This is to ensure, that RAW files are converted to the best possible lossless format for editing. For JPEGS it is a bit wasteful because the large file size for the new original files.
if you export your image as a high quality JPEG, pass it to the external editor and reimport it yourself, and reimport it yourself, you will not notice much difference in quality, if you export your jpeg as "Original" and save it again with a high quality. But the reimported image will be treated by Aperture as a new image and not as a version of the original image.
One way to get an original JPEG image passed to the external editor as a JPEG and not as aTIFF or PSD, but to keep it linked to the old original would be to open the Aperture library in iPhoto and to call the external editor from iPhoto (In aperture use File > Open library in iPhoto). iPhoto will send a JPEG to the editor as a JPEG. It will be returned as the edited version of the same image, not with a new quasi master. This requires, that you have matching versions of Aperture and iPhoto. (see. Aperture 3.3: Using a unified photo library with iPhoto and Aperture)
For example: After sending a JPE to Photoshop Elements from iPhoto 9.5.1:  The original of the edited version is still a JPEG image .

  • Aperture + Editing Software

I am looking for some editing software and am not sure what to get as I would like it to sync/work well with Aperture 3.
Do I get pixelmator or go for photoshop elements?
If there are any other options please let me know
    Many thanks

Software are tools, or collections of tools. The tools are crafted by skilled toolmakers to allow the user to perform specific tasks.
Apple's Aperture is entirely analogous to Adobe's Lightroom. It seems unlikely that with your current tools and tasks you haven't encountered and learned what Lightroom is and does. Aperture is and does the same. Each is excellent at what it does.
Aperture and Lightroom are digital darkrooms for developing, organizing, storing, and preparing for publication digital photographs. It sounds as though you have some needs which Aperture will meet.
It is worth knowing what Aperture is not. It is not a graphics editing program. Aperture is not a data-creation program -- it is a data-modification program. The data are your photographs. Aperture excels at allowing the user to develop digital negatives. It does not allow the user to create and add text, rectangles, digital bangles, and so forth. Every operation is done on a photograph.
Aperture is no faster than similar programs at executing commands. It can save the user a lot of time in allowing for the organization and batch execution of operations. The execution of even a few changes on hundreds of images will always push current systems to their max.
Your question remains non-specific. These user-to-user forums are great for finding answers to specific question, and not so great for gathering general information. Read about Aperture on Apple's site, read several of the many easily available reviews of version 3, and also download the trial version (it's free) and try it out. Aperture is a very large, very powerful, complex program with a long (but not steep) learning curve. Sixty minutes spent reading and using will either answer your question, or allow you to ask specific questions to which you can get useful answers.
    Good luck.

  • After importing my iPhoto images to Aperture, edited RAW files render strangely

    Hi,
Yesterday I imported my iPhoto 09 library to Aperture 3. I have a problem with my RAW files (from a Sony Alpha 55). I have done some edits to these photos in iPhoto 9 and these edits did carry over to Aperture. Unfortunately the resulting image looks absolutely overly contrasted, I can fix most of it by turning down the Black Clipping, which is set to about 25% of the slider. I don't remember adding black clipping in iPhoto though.
Maybe someone here knows about this problem?
    Jonathan

oh, and it's iPhoto '11 not 09, sorry about that.

  • Aperture 3.4.1 Places google map not there

The google map interface is no longer appearing in my Aperture 3.4.1 on osx 10.8.2, it's just a grey screen.  I can control click to assign new places, zoom controls do not work and I cannot change from sat./terrain/road.  Any suggestions as how to get it back?  I already deleted the com.apple.aperture.plist file but nothing happened...and I'm connected to the internet.
    Thanks in advance...

I could not get to work since Aperture 3.4 either. Zoom out now seems to stop, when the image fills the window.
As a work-around, select more than one image in full screen mode, and you can zoom out to 25%.
Or put the image on a Light-Table; then you can zoom out to really small thumbnail sizes.

I am not able to select/edit text in navigation menu also not able to apply any hyperlink on the text or tabs. It is not letting me do that.  I don't see any hyperlink option even when I select the tab. Is it some kind of bug? I made two sites with Adobe muse and both has same problems. I have wasted so much time in finding the problem. I don't have much time to waste any more. I read other discussions thread in Adobe but didn't find any solution yet. Could you please help me?

    Hello
The menu items pick the name of the page from your site's plan mode and those text (page names) and their hyperlinks are not editable, unless you change the menu type to manual from the menu options (the blue arrow on the top right corner of the menu).

  • Editing size and placement on picture and textbox

Im new when it comes to Aparture, and Im kinda stuck trying to make a book. I would really like to be able to change the size of the picture and the textbox and also where on the page they are placed. Like being able to just take one corner and pull it bigger, like apple+t in photoshop. Is this possible? I see some are talking about a edit layout-button, but Im not able to find this.
Hope to get some help from you guys!

When you open a book layout, at the top it says "Theme". To the right of where it says "Theme" There are two boxes. The first one to the right is for Editing Content. The second box with dotted lines and a plus sign in the middle is the one for editing the layout. Click that one and you can change the size, location, etc. If you let your mouse hover over any of the icons for a few seconds, it will tell you what that icon does.

  • Editing size and placement of picture

I'm making a photo book and cannot adjust the size of picture frames in the layouts. When I click on "Edit Layout" I do see 8 "handle" boxes on the corners and sides, but I can't click on any of them and drag the frame to a different size. What am I missing? Thank you for the info!

    the size of picture frames
Do you mean the The controls for the thickness of the "Photo Border"? They are accessible in the "Layout Options" pane; you show or hide it from the cogwheel below the "Pages" panel.
But if you can adjust the size of the border - or any other options - will dpend on the book theme you are using. Each theme has specific options, and many of them disable some layout changes, for example the "Formal" theme. You have the most freedom to change the layout with the "Classic" theme.

  • Aperture: edit and move referenced/originals

My Aperture library was too big to handle my Macbook Air storage capacity so I moved the originals to an external disk. I have spent a few hours reading how to do it but can´t find a clear solution on how to work from now on.
I would like to know what happens with the photos if I move them to different projects or even delete them in Aperture. How do I synchronies those new changes? Also, in the next days I will be adding new photos to some of my already existent Aperture projects, how can I move the originals of the new photos to the external disk? Should I move all the originals again?
Thanks if someone can clarify those dilemmas I´m having right now.

    Hi,
You're going to have to learn more in order to do what you want to do and not lose any data or risk loss through incomplete back-ups.  It's beyond the scope of this forum to provide all the information you need.  A _brief_ overview can be found in my concise guide to Aperture.  This come up regularly, and with some sleuthing you should be able to turn up a few of the longer, excellent post on the topic of Referenced Originals.
I will respond to your questions — but my first advice is to be careful.  It is not clear what you are asking, and it seems that you do not understand how Aperture works.  I _strongly_ suggest mastering this while using a small test Library, before using any of it on data that is important.
If you put the last Image attached to a Referenced Original in the Aperture Trash, and empty the Aperture Trash, you should get a dialog asking you if you want to move the Referenced Original to the System Trash.  Do you not get that dialog?
If you say "Yes", the Referenced Original file should be put in the System Trash.
Note that OS X keeps individual Trashes for each drive (even though it shows the collected contents of every drive's trash).
When you import files, you have the option of storing the files in the Aperture Library package, or wherever you specify.  You can import files and leave them where they are, or you can import them and relocate them (to, e.g., your Originals drive), or you can import them and have them stored in the Library package.
If your Originals are managed ("managed" means "stored inside the Library package"), whenever you back-up your Library the Image's Originals are backed up.
If you Originals are referenced ("referenced" means "stored outside the Library package"), you are responsible for backing them up _in addition to_ backing up your Library.
An extra note:  Aperture was designed to work with each "shoot" imported as a "Project".  (The misnaming of the container "Project" is, imho, a spectacular and costly mistake.)  Unless you have good reason to do otherwise, you will find your workflow smoother if you stick to "One Project for every shoot".  Use Albums for longitudinal collections of Images.
