Aperture 3 - Error Importing Library

Hi folks!
My Macbook's hard drive crashed so I had to reinstall OSX 10.6 and use the time machine to bring the stuff back.
After reinstalling everything I also updated OSX to 10.6.7 and and finally updated Aperture to 3.1.2 via App Store.
Then I tried to open the Aperture 3 and this happened:
Error Importing Library
Now if I go to File/Switch to Library/Other/New... there is a new library called "Aperture Library (current default)"  (Version 3.1.2) including zero versions and masters.
My old library is automatically renamed as "Aperture Library_Original" including 17xxx versions... (Version 3.1.1)
I've tried to rebuild the library etc etc but it won't do it and gives the same Error Importing Library error all the time.
Now I even reinstalled everything again, installed 10.6.6 and now my Aperture is also 3.1.1. Still the same error comes..
Do you guys/girls have any idea what to try next?
Thank you in advance!

Oops, not sure whether using References or Managed.. But I would bet that Managed..
Those other 2010 folders are from the time before Aperture 3, I purchased Aperture about 2 months ago via App Store.
Default Picture folder contains Aperture Libraries, iPhoto library, Photo Booth folder and few of those random 2010_ picture folders.. Don't even know why those are there anyway..
but but.. I'm now already starting to think that I've almost all of the pics in iPhoto..
If in Finder I right-click my old Aperture Library and choose "Show content" (or something like that, my OSX is in Finnish) -  I'm able to find those few new albums and their photos which are not in iPhoto.. If I just copy those to iPhoto and Import it again.. Naturally I would loose the project structure I've created in Aperture and few edited photos.. but at least I would get my Aperture back again and forget that this incident ever happened..

I'm getting the following Error message when trying to import some of my folders from my external hard drive. This is not happening with all of my photos. How can I access my photos? I now have Aperture 3.5, but I'm guessing I exported those with an earlier version of Aperture 3? I have a Mac Book, OS X 10.9
    Thanks!

My advice is for libraries, not vaults.
To be able to use a vault, you have to restore the library from the vault and then open the restored library.
To restore the entire library from an external backup disk
Connect the hard disk drive that contains the most up-to-date vault to your computer and open Aperture.
Choose File > Vault > Restore Library. The Restore Library dialog appears.
Choose Select Source Vault from the Source Vault pop-up menu.
If necessary, navigate to the vault from which you want to restore, then click Select.
Click Restore, then click Restore again.

  • Size of iPhoto Library greatly over estimated by Aperture on import.

Trying to import a 106GB iPhoto library into Aperture. I get "Error Importing Library. 1500.80 GB is needed, but only 469.29 GB available." Anyone know what's up? Both apps on latest version.

I wasn't able to export the iPhoto library until I followed a tip to place all the projects into a folder. That worked and then new Aperture library seems to be an exact replica of the old iPhoto library.
It hasn't solved anything though, as I now get this: "1896.37 GB is needed, but only 464.40 GB is available." It's gotten worse as it said 1500GB yesterday.
Both libraries are on the latest release and I have ca 25.000 images in the old library. It is just short of 106GB on disk.

  • Importing library to Aperture 3.3: not enough free space

I am trying to import an iPhoto Library (9.3) into a brand new, blank Aperture 3.3 library, but I am getting the following error message:  "The library could not be imported because there is not enough free space on your current Aperture Library volume."
That's impossible because the library is actually around 70 GB in size; my hard disk itself is 750 GB so it's impossible for my iPhoto Library to requre 1821.95 GB of space!
I understand the file format of both iPhoto 9.3 and Aperture 3.3 library are the same; but everything else still seems to think it's an iPhoto Library by default...

My solution was to drag the photos manually from one application to the other.
    Hi darenrobbins,
This certainly works, but a caution:
By dragging from Aperture to iPhoto you only transfer the previews, not the originals. So better make sure, that you are now satisfied with the image resolution that you have in iPhoto after dragging.
For example, I just dragged an image from Aperture to iPhoto; it is a jpeg with 3648 × 2736 (10.0 MP) - in iPhoto it was imported as 1824x1368; the size I have set for previews.
    InAperture, before dragging:
    Dragged to iPhoto:
So check, if you have not lost image quality by your transfer method.

  • Aperture cannot import iPhoto library

I am unable to import iPhoto library into Aperture.  It complains that the iPhoto version is older than 7.1.5 and thus not supported.  However, I'm working with iPhoto version 9.4.3.
Any clues how to address this - rather odd...  Just bought the software and have some urgent work to perform with it - so any quick helping advice would be great.

    Jens,
which version of "Aperture Install Notes" are you referring to? Is your Aperture version the most recent donwload Aperture 3.4.5 from the AppStore? You need at least Aperture 3.3. to be able to share the libraries between iPhoto and Aperture and to use the iPhoto Library as your Aperture library.
Now, should I re-install Aperture and wipe the "imported library" to make sure I have a clean sharing between iPhoto and Aperture or does it not matter?  I do not want to have double the copies
It is not necessary to reinstall Aperture, if you want to start over with a new Aperture library. The Aperture Application and the Aperture libraries are completely independent. You can simply trash the current Aperture library (by default it is in your "Pictures" folder and called Aperture Library.aplibrary). Only make sure, that your original iPhoto Library still contains all your photos. When you imported to an earlier version of Aperture, you may have moved your originals from iPhoto to Aperture. That is why I am concerned about your Aperture version.

  • Aperture 3.1 won't Import Library over Local Area Network

I have upgraded three Macs on an ethernet LAN. One is the "master" and I periodically Import its Library to the other machines to bring them up to date. This has worked fine since v. 3.0 came out.
With 3.1 I can't Import Library over the LAN. On the target computer I navigate to the "master" computer, select its library, hit go, and Aperture on the target machine does nothing for a few seconds and then hangs with a spinning beachball. I have to force quit.
I have made small test libraries on each machine and confirmed that I can't Import to any machine from any other over the ethernet. But I can use the Finder to drag a Library from one machine to another's desktop over the LAN--and then Import Library from the desktop works fine.
I've done all the usual: repair permissions, database, and eventually restore from Vault. I've reinstalled v. 3.0. Get Info informs me that all the libraries are 3.1. As far as I can see, nothing else is broken. LAN networking works fine for everything but Aperture.
Does anyone else see the same problem? Any suggestions?

Me too. Upgraded both libraries to 3.1, rebuilt both libraries to see if that would help ... but no ... no way I can get one to merge with the other over Wi-Fi. Used to work fine in 3.0. I suppose I will have to try with a FW cable and the MacBook Pro in Target Mode - hopefully that will work in the short-term.

  • New user here.  Trying to import iPhoto 9.4.2 libraries into Aperture 3.4.3 as referenced files. When accessing File Import Library, it finds the iPhoto library just fine, but then imports it as Master files. No option that I can find to leave the photos

New user here.  Trying to import iPhoto 9.4.2 libraries into Aperture 3.4.3 as referenced files. When accessing File>Import>Library, it finds the iPhoto library just fine, but then imports it as Master files. No option that I can find to leave the photos in place on the file system.  All the literature says their should be an option to choose, but I never get that option.  What?

All the literature says their should be an option to choose, but I never get that option.
That has been true for the previous Aperture versions. Now Aperture simply treats the original image files exactly as they are in the imported library. Referenced images will stay referenced, managed will be imported as managed. But you can always relocate the imported managed images afterwards by using "File > Relocate".

  • Import Library Error two functions with same name on different namespaces

Im trying impor a library developed by me. In this library have two functions ShowMenu. First function be inside into a class and its declared as
void __fastcall TTrayicon:howMenu(). The second function has declared as extern "C" __declspec(dllexport) ShowMenu(int x, int y).
When i use de assistant to import this library i select the library and its header file. But in the next step the assistant show to me the first function.
    Anyone explain what's happen?

I'm not sure what kind of answer you're looking for. LabVIEW's Import Library wizard does not always properly handle accessing functions in standard C++ DLLs. See this for more info.

  • Error importing CD (required folder cannot be found)

iTunes 10.6, running on a Mac Mini with OSX 10.6.8
    Hi all,
A bit of backstory. Been using iTunes to manage my music collection for over 8 years. At one point, I moved my music off of a primary disk to an external disk, although perhaps oddly set up, in that the 'iTunes Music Library.xml' file was still local (under ~User/Music), and just the music files were external (under /Volumes/Media/Music).  When the iTunes Media directory structure upgrade happened, the only way I could access my music was to put a soft link from the Music folder to my external drive.
For awhile now, I've been in a state where for the most part, I can listen to all of my music, but when I try to import a CD, I get the 'required folder cannot be found' error.
Help!  Do I have to rebuild my file somehow?  Edit the xml file directly?
    Thanks so much.
I'm happy to provide more information, such as the xml file, directory listings, etc..  I'm just not sure what's helpful.

I have the same problem.  I recently moved my music from a Vista PC to a new Laptop with an external CD drive. It will copy one song from the CD and it will show in the Music file and then I get the message ' Error importing a CD - Folder not found'.  I must unplug the CD drive and plug it back in.  I have seen no fix for this problem.

  • Intermittent import library generation failure building 64-bit binary in Visual Studio 2013

I have a 64-bit c++ project that randomly fails to build because the import library generation silently fails in the link step.  I have scoured the "diagnostic level" log trying to find some hint at why the import library
fails to be created, but there doesn't seem to be any information.
It's pretty random.  When it fails, I can do a clean build and everything builds.  After a successful build, I can do another clean rebuild and see it fail again.
The 32-bit version consistently builds fine.  I see the 64-bit problem regularly in any configuration (Release or Debug).
        I'm running VS2013 Update 2 RC.
Any hints on how to debug this?  Is this a known issue for which there is a patch?

Hi Anna, thanks for the reply.  Yes, this does reproduce in MSBuild if you specify a rebuild.  As mentioned previously, if you do a clean and build, even through MSBuild, the build succeeds every time.
There's no way for me to create a sample project.  Our codebase is quite large and this doesn't reproduce for simple example projects.
There is no error message when the iTunes.lib import library fails to build.  The import library is used in a dependent project and that fails in a way you would probably expect (complains about a missing .lib)...
Here's the relevant section from my diagnostic build output.

Aperture does not recognize that there are images to be imported on an SD card. My workaround is to copy the images from the SD card to a folder and then import the images from the folder. Aperture also imports incredibly slowly after the update to 3.4

Check your Import settings in the Import Panel, i.e. all that might exclude the image type you want to import:
If you did not exclude any file types, and still Aperture will not import, remove your ImageCapture preferences fro your user library:
To remove the image capture preferences:
If Aperture is running, quit Aperture,  and log off and on again.
Open your user library from the Finder's Go menu: Hit Command Shift G (⌘⇧G) and then type in: ~/Library/Preferences/  then hit return.
In the window that opens remove "com.apple.ImageCapture.plist"
and look into the subfolder "ByHost": if there are files named com.apple.ImageCapture  something .plist  remove them too.
    then try again.
And if that still does not help, remove the Aperture preferences as well:
    ~/Library/Preferences/aperture.plist

P.S. in MacOS Lion and later the user library ~/Library is hidden by default.
You can reveal it also  from the Finder's "Go" menu:
Finder > Go,   then hold down the options ⌥ key, until the Library appears in the drop-down menu, select it and open the Library folder. Then go to the "Preferences".

  • Problem using/opening Aperture 3.0 Library in Aperture 3.5.1

I have Aperture 3.0 Library that I opened in Aperture 3.5.1 and got this:
I did all repairs and rebuilds, but noting works. I can't access any PS file that I have, and the exports from the library looks like this:
Any suggestions how to save my images?
    Thank you!

I accessed the raw files from the library , .psd and .nef, and tried to open, fail. I sent the files to a friend to try from his computer, fail again.
    Marie,
to save the embedded jpegs from your RAW images, as Frank Caggiano recommended,  try the following in Aperture:
Save the original RAW files to a separate folder.
Set Aperture's Preference in the "Preferences > Import" panel to "Post Import Processing > Camera Previews".
Set Aperture to show the Browser, and not the Viewer or Split view. That is important. The idea is to prevent Aperture from opening the image after importing.
Now import your folder with the saved RAW files by dragging it onto the "Projects" in the Library panel.
You should be seeing perfect thumbnails without any corruption. Drag the thumbnails from the Aperture window to a folder on your Desktop. This should give you high quality JPEGs.
Your test image gave me a 4928x3264 high resolution JPEG.

  • Aperture/iPhoto Importer Not Working

I just downloaded the trial for Lightroom 5 and installed the Aperture/Iphone Importer plug in. I tried to use it to import my iPhoto library with almost 42,000 photos.
I already checked that the iPhoto Library is the correct one and that the destination in the "Copy images/videos to:" is set to Pictures/LightroomMasters folder
The problem is that the import button is always in gray, so I can't click it to start the import!
I am running Lightroom on a Macbook Pro with the latest OS X 10.10 (Yosemite) And Lightroom Version 5.6
Please help, I want to try Lightroom but has not started good.
    Thank you.

Haven't tried it on an iPhoto library, but
    Try:
    -Restarting Lightroom
    -Changing some of the options
    -Changing the destination
-Make sure you have permissions on the destination

  • No Import Library option in iTunes 10

I just had iTunes throw the "locked library" error on me, and one solution I heard of was moving all db out of the iTunes folder and then re-importing 'iTunes Music Library.xml' into iTunes.
According to step 7 in the knowledge base article on Apple's support pages (http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1451) from last September, I was supposed to accomplish this simply by +7. Choose File > Library > Import Playlist.+
In my iTunes 10 this is not an option! I can backup, export, and organize, but not import. Wonder what the use of backup your db is when you cannot reimport it ... Any ideas on how to import the xml version of the db?

I really need to learn how to read and write some day.
I was focusing so hard on finding the option "Import Library", that I actually thought the KB article said just that in step 7. It was not until you said there was indeed such an option that I recognized the fact that it said playlist.
It did indeed work, but I still find it curious that they dumped the functionality concerning importing of +music libraries+ into the same option as the one concerning +importing of playlists+.
Anyhooow, thanks for pointing out the obvious. I actually needed it
