Aperture 3 issue

When i start my aperature application i will not open. I paid 200 dollars for the program and i would like for it to work. When i open the program it says "There was an error opening the database for the library “~/Pictures/Aperture Library.aplibrary”."  I am not sure what this means and what the issue is i just want the program to work.

I suggest starting with the troubleshooting basics listed at the link below:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3805
Note - you can try creating a test library by holding down the 'Option / Alt' key while launching Aperture > Create New button > create a 'Test' library on the desktop to see if the issue is with the library or application.
Successfully creating a library tells you the issue is with the library the error message is referring to. If unsuccessful, then the issue probably lies in the application and a re-install might be called for.

  • Aperture Issue with my MAC Mail account

I inadvertently started to have Aperture email several photos and instead of sending 3 photos I clicked 70 photos (raw about 300mb)
I cancelled the transfer and MY MAC account keeps spinning and the Draft box shows a clock icon witha incomplete.
I am guessing that my Mail account is stuck trying to download the photo files even after I cancelled.
I reset the System Preps sync.
I checked the Mobile Me internet and there is no problem with the online account.
There is no email in drafts on in the internet Mobile Me /Mac.com when I log on.
And I am receiving emails on the internet but not in my computer Mail mail that is spinning.
I also did a test email from a ATT account and it is on the Internet Mobile Me BUT not on the mail account for my computer.
All other ATT mailboxes are working fine for incoming and going.
My Aperture has been running extremely slow since I installed Lion.
Not sure if that is a separate issue, but I though I would mention it.
I hope I explained my situation and :
    Any help is appreciated.

*"my problem has to do with mac."*
What specifically is Mac in this instance? Your mail application? And what email account are you trying to send from?
If you're using Apple's Mail application, then you should probably post your question in the Mail and Address Book forums:

  • ICloud, Mail, Safari, Aperture Issues

Since upgrading to Mavericks I've had issues with Mail, Safari, and Aperture failing to quit.
Also, in System Preferences, iCloud fails to load.
I have re-installed Mavericks, performed a repair permissions, and the only thing that gets me going again (until the next fail) is to force quit the applications and re-start.
Sure would appreciate some guidance here.
    Thanks, in advance.

I'll try that next time one of those applications hangs.
I did find the icloudhelper in Activity Monitor and force quit it, then did a restart.  It was back running after the restart, of course.
I'm hoping someone will help here with a permanent fix.
    Thanks for your post.

  • Aperture issues.

    Hi
I've started a new thread as my circumstances are different to most:
I'm using 10.5.8 on a duo core 3.2 Mac Pro with 4meg of Ram.
I loaded a trial version of aperture 2 and then deleted as much of it as I could ages ago.
Downloaded Aperture 3 Trial and what I have seen it is great. However I cannot reference/load much of my library which is currently in a traditional folder system. All I see is some of the images and the message loading assets which spins for ages and then crashes.
The remainder of the system is also unstable, although much improved after the following:
Delete and Reload Aperture trial Version.
    Fixed Permissions in Utilities.
Oynx everything a couple of times
    Several reboots
deleted Aperture pList in pro-application support folder.
    Created a new Aperture library.
Any thoughts would be good as this is such a great advance from light-room that I wish to use it ASAP!

Unless you are absolutely limited to running 10.5.8, I'd start by spending $29 and upgrading to snow leopard. Aperture is faster in it, and you are using a mac pro, so you will notice a substantial performance boost.
If you are unable to upgrade then there is probably something that could be done quickly to fix your issue. Turn off Faces and auto preview generation in the preferences and see if it still crashes.
But seriously... As a mac pro owner. You are seriously missing out not running 10.6.

  • Nikon ViewNX 2 and Aperture Issues

I recently addeded Descriptions/Captions to Nikon RAW files via Nikon View NX2. I originally had these same images in an Aperture library. When I went back to view the images in the Aperture Library they were no longer readable by Aperture. Each image that had benen loaded in to Aperture and was oringalnlly visable now shows up as Unsupported Image Format. Something Nikon has done to the file seems to be keeping Aperture from seeing the NEF's properly. Has anyone else experinced this issue and if so were you able to fix it?

    Hi Jim,
Sadly you have run into the fact that Nikon software does not treat the NEF as sacrocanct.
This is not something you would necessarily expect, as every other piece of non-camera manufacturer software PROCESSES the RAW file before it can use it...and they expect to be seeing a fresh out of camera original NEF. Nikon, being the only one that actually knows all the details of the file construction of a NEF, chose to edit the NEF directly.
Aperture's hallmark is non-destructive editing, meaning it reads the NEF, processes it, and creates "Versions" which are nothing more than a recipe of what was done to the orignal file. If the NEF that Aperture relied upon as a basis for its processed versions is no longer the pure, out of camera Nikon NEF format, then it will no longer recognize them. You may or may not be able to re-import the edited NEFs into Aperture.
I use the backup function in Aperture when I import, storing the NEFs to two places at once. I do not use View, but I did use Capture NX2 for a bit, and I always did it with copies of the NEFs, never the ones I was managing in Aperture.
I guess my bigger question is why are you using View, and why didn't you add the captions in Aperture?
    Hope this was helpful,
    KJ Doyle

  • Aperture issues with video playback in slideshow

I'm trying to add a few videos into a slideshow but seem to be hitting an issue with playback. The mpeg4 files play perfectly fine in my project folder but when I drag it into my slideshow I only hear the audio of the video, no picture. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong? I'm running Aperture 3.4.5

Sorry, that should read .mp4. Have also tried .MOV with no success in the playback of the slideshow.

  • ITunes won't sync - Aperture issue

Since upgrading to OSX Lion, iTunes will no longer sync with my iPhone or iPad, I get the following error.  It appears to be something to do with photos which I am syncing from Aperture.  If I switch off photo syncing in iTunes it works.

Thinl I founfd the solution. Its based on an older known issue:
The "-50 error" appears to be overcome by doing the following. Essentially you have to delete your current iPhoto or Aperture cache files.
Follow the instructions in the Apple articles below...it appears to be working for me.....
    iPod/Aperture photo Cache
    ref:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300225
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301267
    and several others.
The trick for people using aperture is that this directory is inside the aperture library file (the .aplibrary file).
Having removed this directory itunes is now regenerating the optimized photos

PLEASE NOTE - I have tried deleting the application and re-installing/downloading it from the app store.
    Please help!

Let me guess: You installed Final Cut Express, or some other very very old version of a pro app?
Two things I think you need to do:
    1) Remove Final Cut Express.  It's too old and damages things.  You can get the new iMovie or Final Cut Pro X
    2) Download and install the 10.8.2 combo update

  • Aperture issue on iMovie download?

I have already got latest version of Aperture installed. Have just downloaded iMovie and it appears to have started a complete reinstall of Aperture. If I let it run will it overwrite my existing install and mean I lose all my images etc? Or is this normal?

I shot 3 videos on my iPhone 4. I simply want to edit them together in iMovie for iPhone. After I exported them (in 720P) it showed up in the camera roll as a small square picture surrounded by lots of black space.
In fact, after transferring them to my computer I noticed comparing to the original that top and bottom of video was cut off!
Anybody have a clue why that is happening?
Doesn't seem to matter which resolution export I pick. They are all reduced in size and cut off.
    Thanks,
    Todd

  • TS1424 Aperture Issue

Just purchase Aperture from App Store. Downloaded and installed on new Mac AirBook.  App will not open either Aperture or iPhoto files??

You have to update Aperture to version 3.6.
If your current Aperture version is any version of Aperture 3, you are entitled for a free update.
Go to the Main page of the AppStore. If the Aperture download does not show as free for you, contact the app Store Support and ask for a redeem code. Use this link: http://www.apple.com/support/mac/app-store/contact/
You will have to provide a proof of purchase.

  • Yosemite/Aperture 3.6 jpeg export issue

I have recently updated to Yosemite and Aperture 3.6.  Now I cannot upload the exported jpegs to my photo site (shootproof.com).  If I pull the jpeg into iPhoto and re-export, then I can upload that file.  I don't have time to double my work flow.  What can I do to fix this issue.
    Regards,
    rharbour

I can export the photos to jpeg without any errors.  I have tried a couple of the default jpeg settings, but still no luck uploading.  I typically export at the Aperture default full size jpeg setting, quality at 10, dpi at 72.  When exported, I can view the photos fine, and can send them to other computers/ipad/iphone and view them just fine.  I just cannot upload them to shootproof.com without an error.  Worked fine before upgrade to 3.6.
I can open the Aperture library in iPhoto and export from there and those upload without any problems.  The difference is that in iPhoto, if I export at max the file size is 24 mb but one step down is 1-2 mb.  In Aperture, it exports full size at 7-12 mb which works for me.  I have even had shootproof.com look on their end and they said it was a Aperture issue because they couldn't upload a photo that I emailed to them for testing purposes.
I will try the fixes that you recommended, but it will be late tonight because I have a shoot this afternoon.
Thanks and I'll let you know how/if it worked.

  • Selected videos won't sync from Aperture through iTunes to my iPhone 5s

I don't know if this is an iPhone issue, an Aperture issue, or an iTunes issue . . .
I'm using Aperture, on my iMac, and have created albums that contain videos (as well as photos). Some videos are iPhone-created that I imported from my iPhone into Aperture (since iCloud/Photostream does not automatically cloud videos); some videos were created by me in a separate program (iMovie or FCPX) and then down-mixed to put into my Aperture album. I'm trying to sync my Aperture album (not Event, but Album) to my iPhone 5s so that I have an album on my iPhone directly mimicking my Aperture album.
The pictures come over perfectly, sorted by date as they are in Aperture. However, the videos have issues. Most importantly, only the ones originally created by my iPhone come back across to my phone, and in the correct album. Anything that I've created (Final Cut Pro X or iMovie) are not coming through (down-mixed as .mov files).
I do have the "include videos" box checked in iTunes; that only serves to bring over the iPhone-created movies, some of which it dropped into the synced album, some of which it decided to put into my videos album.
Anyone out there have any ideas what I could be doing differently? I'd like all my videos in my Aperture album to come across to my iPhone in the same album.
Second smaller issue is that movies I made on my iPhone 5s in slo-mo, though they imported to Aperture in slo-mo, are syncing back to my iPhone 5s in real time, not slo-mo.
    Aperture: 3.5.1
    iPhone: 5s, 8.0.2
    iMac: 10.9.5
    iTunes:  11.4(18)

As a follow-up, I down mixed the video in FCPX using "Apple Devices" 720p. That did not help.

  • Bought a bigger monitor, Aperture runs much slower

I recently upgraded from a 27" (1920x1200) monitor to a 30" (2560x1440), and have noticed a significant performance drop in Aperture 3.1.2.  I run a few other programs (Photoshop CS5, Word, Excel, Safari), but that's about it.  I have 16GB of RAM, and a dedicated internal HDD for Aperture library alone.  In Activity Monitor, I usually always show at least 4-6GB of RAM that's free.  However, none of this seems to be of much use.  My system is about 18 months old.  Mac Pro workstation, with Quad Core 2.93Ghz Xeon running OS X 10.6.7.
In particular, brushing-in any adjustments in Aperture seems to be incredibly slow. i.e. brushing-in Saturation with Color Overlay, there is at least a 2-4 second delay between when I brush it in, and when it actually appears on screen with color overlay.  I've noticed the performance is a bit better when applying these adjustments zoomed-out, however, I mostly need to do this zoomed-in, for things like teeth, eyes, etc.   Frankly, I can't imagine how anyone with an iMac, or a MacBook Pro manages to use Aperture at all with performance like this.  I work with 12-14 megapixel RAW files, and am honestly holding off on upgrading my camera in fear that Aperture would literally stand still.
Can anyone help me shed some light on this?  I'm hoping it's just my machine, and not overall Aperture issue.

OK, just an update for those curious.  I went out and bought the ATI Radeon HD 5870 from the Apple Store for $450 and installed it today.  Whoa!  It definitely helps!  This thing is literally 4x the size of the GeForce GT 120.  Brushing in adjustments and doing just about anything is about twice as fast in Aperture now, and much more real-time.

  • My aperture library won't open - it's stored on an external R6 pegasus drive?

Have been through the various other threads and followed most of the ideas - repair disk permissions, plist delete, rebuild database.
The application works ok and when it is not trying to access the library stored on the pegasus it works fine - I guess the librray on the pegasus must be corrupted some how but can I get to the unerlying files and re-import?
    Help!?

Yes it's Mac OS extended. I've had it working before but since the file size became so large (200GB+) it has started to have problems. I just tried it with another laptop where I installed a new version of aperture and it said that the library rebuild had been interrupted. It restarted the rebuild and now I can get access but I'm worried about the stability going forward and every time I try to move the aperture library (by copying it to another external drive) or update the vault it just hangs.
So I'm not sure whether this is an imac issue, an aperture issue or a problem with the compatibility of the pegasus storage (I suspect the latter)?
Any thoughts on what to do or just cross my fingers and hope it doesn't happen again??

  • Why jpeg file exported from Aperture with 300 dpi's it opens with 72 dpi's on PS ( image size)? I've tried several combinations and all give different results. And I am confused on what is the best workflow for me.

    Ok.
    My workflow is
RAW > Aperture Library > export jpeg high resolution 300 dpi's > one file on PS > edit > Save us jpeg. The I realised that files from PS were being save in a smaller size from the ones exported form Aperture. That is when I went o see <image size> on PS and files were with 72.
Since ten I've trying different things
    1. Aperture > export as PSD > open on PS > edit > Save us jpeg = small file (around 15 MB)
    2. Aperture > export as jpeg high resolution 300 dpi's > open on PS > CHANGE dpi's to 300 on <image size> edit > Save us jpeg = big file (Huge, actually)
What am I doing wrong? Would someone give me guidance and tell me what is the best workflow, considering I edit photos to deliver to my clients and I shall give them 300 dpi's.
    Thank you
