Aperture 3 keyword list won't go away

as i am entering keywords in the keyword toolbar (not HUD), the transparent autofill box appears with suggestions to autofill. if i were to delete as i enter and try to stop keywording (go back to editing, naming versions, anything else), the auto-fill box will not disappear without restarting!

Yeh, but i'm still cconfused, _ya don't enter keywords direct to the control/toolbar_. Maybe it's fixed itself. Allan
I do. All the time.
Here's a bit from the Users Manual link I posted. There is more info on the Users Manual page.
+*Add Keyword field*: Type a new keyword in this field and press Return to add it to a selected image. If the keyword has been used before, Aperture automatically completes the word as you type it. If the Keywords HUD is locked, you are asked whether you want to unlock the Keywords HUD and add the keyword to the keyword library, or not add the keyword to the image. To remove a keyword you’ve just applied, type the keyword again and press Shift-Return. Keywords removed using the keyword field are not removed from the Keywords HUD+
The auto-completion pops up a dynamic scrollable list. It is this list which sometimes gets orphaned on the screen. Closing Aperture is the only way I've found to remove it.

  • *Please Help!* Comment List Won't go away...

I have Adobe Acrobat 8.0 PRO and I added a comment to a certain part of the forms I made because when a client goes to a certain part of the document I want them to see I comment I made about a certain part of our document. The problem is every time the program starts the "Comments list" pops up. I can close it manually each time but I don't know why it remains open every time I open the file. I don't know what to do anymore. I have spent too much time trying to figure it out...if anyone can help I would appreciate it! Thanks again in advance :)

Do a save as after hiding the comment list. Please continue this thread

  • Can I create "keyword list" from keywords in EXIF data?

Hi - I'm still a Mac and Aperture noob, so please excuse me if the question is dumb or ill-formed...
I used to use Photoshop Elements on a PC. I made pretty extensive use of "tags" (keywords, in Aperture lingo) for categorizing my photos. I wrote all the tags into the exif data of my photos, then copied everything over to Aperture.
Now, when I pull up an existing photo in Aperture browser, I can see the keywords that I already added. Great...but, is there a way to extract all the existing keywords from all my photos, and build a "library" of keywords that I can pick and choose from for tagging future photos?
Alternatively - if I could export a keyword list from Photoshop Elements (in txt or XML format, whatever) is there a way that I can import that into Aperture?
From the reading I've done so far, it seems like I have to manually enter keywords on each photo or do a batch update (and, again, manually enter them). I'd much prefer to have a list of keywords that I can scroll down, then just click to select. Is that asking too much of Aperture?

Welcome to the list and Mac's. Don't woory about your questions, veteran Mac and Aperture users here frequently post dumb and ill-formed questions.

I tried what you described to see what would happen. I opened an image in Preview and added a keyword to it (one I was sure wasn't in my Aperture) saved the file and imported into Aperture. The new keyword was bot in the EXIF data field of the image and in Apertures keyword list.
Are you familiar with the *Keywords HUD* (*Window->Show Keyword HUD*)? If you look there do you see your keywords from your imported images?

There is a way to import and export keywords see *+Exporting and Importing Keyword Lists+* in the +Aperture Users Manual+ (get to it by *Help->Aperture Help*)

  • After IOS 8 update, bookmark bar won't go away

After upgrading to IOS 8 on my iPad 2, in landscape mode in Safari, the bookmarks bar, now combined with links and "Reading List", won't go away. I believe it is supposed to go away when you select one of the functions, such as bookmark, so that the tab turns blue, then hit it again. It doesn't. I can turn it to portrait mode to make it go away, but I'd like to use landscape mode without losing a third of the screen to bookmarks.

Apple knows what's good for you - how dare you criticizing their benevolent parental guidance?
Jokes aside, I'm also a little bit puzzled that there's no option to choose between the "toggle on-off" setting in landscape mode and the fade out one as in portrait In Safari's settings. But there's actually some kind of workaround I'm now using most of the time in landscape mode:
When tapping the URL address bar your bookmarks will also show above the virtual keyboard as they do when Safari doesn't have any websites opened. As soon as one taps into that bookmark window to scroll or directly click a bookmark the keyboard disappears again. It may not be a perfect method, especially when bookmarks aren't organized in folders, because the top level bookmarks are displayed as rather largish icons. But those contained in a folder will actually display as a drop-down list (can be scrolled when having a large number of entries) similar to the normal bookmarks list. Once a bookmark has been clicked everything fades out and you're taken to the selected site. As my bookmarks are almost exclusively in folders such as "News", "Sports", "Tech" etc. I've come to appreciate this kind of bookmark navigation much more than through the standard bookmarks menu with its annoying behavior in landscape mode.

  • CS4 Bridge short term memory "keyword list"

    Greetings ,
I have a Mac G4 2002 with CS4 11.0.1 and I went through all my photos in one three day period and made keywords for the relevant image selections. I love the way it works. ..... BUT !  if I turn off the machine and later come back and open bridge to quick select my photo criteria for editing, my keyword list defaulted to the bridge example list that came with the system. I looked in Preferences and did not find a selection that seemed relevant.
I hope I am just being stupid, missing something simple like "Save As,  keyword list under name ....?" The keywords are still associated with the picture files. I can get back all of the keywords by spending a few hours and clicking one by one on every image in storage. The list eventually builds itself up to it previous glory. But shut down and you get to do it all over again.
    Thanks for your assistance !

Yes, I do shut my computer down the correct way by going to the apple menu first and using the shut down menu function, more anal than that I close the applications that are open first prior to going to the apple menu.
Thank you for the purge cache suggestions.
I did purge once the cache files and it made no change in behavior.
    On your suggestion :
A:   [ I proceeded by opening some photo folders and clicked on some images so that the list could build up again some ( I only did a few folders ).
Then I closed out of out of the application and the shut down. On booting back the OS and opening the application the list had still shrunk. ]
I then repeated "A" and but on bringing the application back up I used the "Option" key hold down so that I could purge Preference files. Shrunk again!
I tried the "purge cache for folder" option, and then Repeated "A" and the result was the same, shrunken list.
I did learn that I did not need to shut down the computer to loose the keyword list however, it goes away with just the closing of the application option.
I also learned that the list is not completely lost now, it defaults to a shorter list of my own words (at least now it does). That default shrunken list is consistent the last two times on re-starting the application.
I am wondering now if there had been some error made in how a list could be put together. Like did I screw up with hierarchy protocol somehow, or should we restrict our naming to a only a two tier system instead of using a three tier system?
From Bridge the suggestion keywords (ie: Mathew, New York, Paris) don't come up anymore. I don't have those images, but interestingly enough, I don't see those names coming up anymore.
Earlier I did try weeks ago to reload the Photoshop CS4 package onto my computer hoping that would solve this problem. One thing I did not do at that time was use "FIND" to search out where relative preference files might lay and then dump those in the trash prior to re-install. I don't know, maybe I have no option but to try that again but by dumping the preferences prior to install.
Since we did just try the "option key" on start of application, does this fully do the same thing?
    Thanks again for your suggestions!

  • I can't import keyword list into Aperture

I want to import a big keyword list from last years photo library into this years, but when I export the keyword list from my 2012 library it's greyed out and won't import into my 2013 library. The Aperture help says it should work just fine, any tips on what I / Aperture / Apple are doing wrong here greatly appreciated: I have a big family keyword list which I don't want to have to recreate from scratch!
    Thanks all, James

  • Aperture Keywords From iPhoto

    1) I have imported my iPhoto Library
    2) I realize that iPhoto keywords are distinct from apeture keywords and I need to select photos by keywords.
    a) I have selected the old iphoto keyword via the smart setting library. The old photos appear. I then add new aperture keyword. (ie Sally Smith). This is easy.
    b) Then I delete the old iPhoto keyword via the most annoying thing of creating the keyword (see previous posts). Then shift enter the keyword away (see previous posts).
    c) HERE IS THE QUESTION. But it remains in the "not so" smart keyword library. Now I will have twice the number of keywords and have to remember which are old dead iPhoto keywords. I tried the plist trick (no luck). What do i do? Stay with iPhoto. This kind of *****.

I suspect that Aperture writes the keywords to the images or their version copies. to get rid of the old iPhoto keywords, make sure that they're no longer in the Keyword HUD and then rebuild the Aperture database. this will probably remove unused keywords from the filter list.
while launching Aperture, press and hold option-command.

  • When I try to open a picture from email all I get is a yellow mozilla square in the middle of my screen and it won't go away unless I restart and I can't view the picture.

Why can't I open pictures sent to me in email. All I get is a yellow mozilla box in the middle of my screen that won't go away unless I restart.
    == This happened ==
    A few times a week
== when I try to view a picture

The ! turns up when iPhoto loses the connection between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the file it represents.
What version of iPhoto? Assuming 09 or later...
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • Ghost Rental in my IPOD Video Library...there's a video that I rented that won't go away...how to remove?

I rented a video on my ipod, watched it, and now it won't go away.  I can't rewatch it either.  When I sync, it is not on the computer as far as rentals.  Can anyone help me remove this?

See if you have enabled 'VoiceOver'…
Open Apple Menu > System Preferences > Accessibility, select VoiceOver in the sidebar list, disable that if it is enabled. You may also see a keyboard shortcut listed there (e.g. cmd+F5), it's possible you hit that accidentally

  • Aperture Keywords

I have Aperture 3.4.1 installed. I have used Aperture for several years. I am not new to this.
I have covered all the basics here. I have run a repair on my library, and restarted the computer. I will discuss the problems that I am seeing.
I use keywords a lot. I have a smart album that specifically shows me images that do not have keywords, so that I can assign them.
When I assign keywords I am assigning several of them at one time. The pupose for this is tha I am an artist. I take photographs to support my artistic work. So I might be doing a piece that I need a train, or a flower, or a person on a beach in Maine, or even a specific place that I have been. I can create a quick smart albumn and find all the images matching my needs and then filter them down from there. Very useful.
In another example, I was asked for a picture of my neice. I said what sort of picture. Once they gave me the specifics, that it was a picture of her at a birthday party, at an uncles house; I was then able to create a smartalbumn with all the necessary keywords and boom all those images oh my neice appear. We found the one the person needed and made a print.
My keywords are organized in groups. I have all the main ones: states, cities, people, family, extended family, objects, places, parks, museums, etc.
Inside each group I have several keywords that fit into those group buckets.
When I assign pictures keywords I select all the images that have those keywords, select multiple keywords using the command button, and then drag that group of keywords onto the selected images. Pretty easy stuff, but I have a lot of hours invested in placing keywords on my images.
    Problems:
    - moving a keyword and letting go, while it is still inside the keyword list, the keyword disappears and does not come back.
    - Restarting aperture will show sometimes duplicate groups of keywords. Each group has a different count number of images for the keyword.
    - Merging keywords does not appear to update the image count, or combine the image count.
    - Occassionally when starting aperture all the keywords are gone
    - Occassionally when starting the groups are there, but all the keywords are no longer inside the groups.
    - Smart Albumns do not always find the images, but if you look at the image data, the keyword is right there on the screen. So a Smart album that looks for the Automobile keyword will show no images, but I can find several images that have this keyword on it.
    - it does not appear that the images lose the keywords assigned. Aperture just does not see them, or does not organize the list properly.
    - Some keywords will not show any image count, when I know there are several thousand images with that keyword.
    - lifting and stamping keywords does not stamp the group it was in. Therefore, the next time you start aperture the keywords that were stamped appear in the keywords list outside of the groups. I think I stopped stamping keywords in Aperture 2. This has not worked right for as long as I have been using Aperture.
    - keywords in group have a number of images containing that keyword. However, the group never shows a total for the group. Would be nice to have so that I can see how many pictures I have in these different groups. That could be really valuable for stock photographers as well. They could track how many photographs of objects, people, animals, autos, builds and more, that they have.
I have over 10,000 images in my library. Most images in my library have 3 or more keywords assigned to them.
Deleting a smart albumn and creating a new one will still not display any images.
All these smart albumns and keywords had bugs, but for the most part I had work arounds for those bugs and could still do things. Right now I am trying to organize a portrait of someone and I cannot perform any filtering to find the images of that person. So I have to go through hundreds of projects by hands to look through thousands of images to try and find it manually.
Has any one used Keywords or seen problems with it? Again, this all worked before 3.4.1 was installed. I got this recently as an update, but before that everything worked (smart albums). Now I cannot even get it to keep the list of keywords in order.

    Kirby,
Thanks for the reply. Sorry. My post was sort of long. I wanted to be sure to give the full story so that people were not replying with things like "Did you restart your computer?" "Did you repair your database?".
    Problems:
    - moving a keyword and letting go, while it is still inside the keyword list, the keyword disappears and does not come back.
This sounds like you are accidentally dragging your Keywords to a different level/parent in your Keyword HUD.  Is that possible?  The proper way to cancel a drag-and-drop operation is to press "{Escape}".
I was very careful and while dragging made sure that the cursor and keywords where over their starting place. I was not aware of the Escape key press for canceling a drag-n-drop. I will have to remember that for next time.
    - Restarting aperture will show sometimes duplicate groups of keywords. Each group has a different count number of images for the keyword.
Where are you seeing these groups?  What do you mean by "group"?  The same Keyword can exist at different levels of your Keyword hierarchy ("Black" is not the same as "Colors➞Black"; each can be separately assigned and will have a number independent of the other).
Sorry. Let me define my use of the word groups. I use the term group to define a top level keyword, or top of a branch. It will typically have an arrow next to it that can be clicked on to expand. A keyword is a term that I use for a label that is defined in the main list, or inside an expandable label (a group).
So, for example I could have a Family->Mom keyword twice in my list. One that says it has 42 images and the second that says it has 8. If I combine them I do not get 50. I get some other number, as if it was random. More importantly is that I don't have two different Family->Mom keywords. Why aperture started with a duplicate is beyond me.
It should.  There is a bug where the numbers in the Keyword HUD are sometimes cropped at the right edge.  Have you tried enlarging the Keyword HUD?
I noticed this problem as well and did not have it on my list. Hmm. Thanks. When the keywords hud does that I have been able to correct it, sometimes, by expanding the HUD horizontally and then slowly reducing the size and drag the numbers with it.
    - Occassionally when starting aperture all the keywords are gone
Gone?  And you have re-input them more than once?  How do you know they are gone?
Gone, yes gone. I mean I open Aperture and either use the Shift-H, or icon on tool bar, for opening the keywords HUD and the entire list is empty. Nothing there. I have even tried searching in the search box at the top of the HUD and get no matches. The list is just empty.
When this happens I just quit aperture and shut down the computer. After restarting, sometimes, the list magically repopulates.
    - Occassionally when starting the groups are there, but all the keywords are no longer inside the groups.
What groups?  Do you mean Parents with children Keywords?  How do you know the children are missing?  Do they return?
Yes, I mean the Parent with children Keywords, or as I just added above a label (parent is better word) that can be expanded with keywords inside it. When I look at the list, For example, I have a Parent Keyword called Family. That group does not have an arrow and cannot be expanded. Furthermore, all the keywords that were at a lower level inside the Family group are now in the main list of keywords, or the highest level possible. If I want things to return to normal I have to restart the computer and aperture. Although that is not a garuntee to work everytime.
Again, I assume by "group" you mean the parent Keyword.  Lifting a child Keyword and stamping it will apply that Keyword.  Aperture does not assign the parent Keyword, but it does understand that the stamped Keyword is a child of the parent Keyword.  If you filter using the Rule "Keyword" and check the parent Keyword, all Images with any of the children Keywords will be selected.
Yes, and thanks for providing me with the term Parent keyword. I will use that more in the future. I don't have any problem with how the image is stamped with the keywords. But if I have a keyword Family->Mom and I lift this and stamp another image. That image will have the keyword Mom. Aperture now updates the master keyword list inside the HUD and shows Mom at the highest level with everything else. I don't want that, because now I have to merge the Mom keyword back into the Family Parent. I don't doubt that Aperture knows what to do when searching, but the keyword HUD does not.
Thanks again for all the feedback. I do not have much exposure to other people using Aperture. I will do better at my terminology in the future. It is good to know that I am doing some things the same way everyone else does. I was thinking that maybe I was doing something more than everyone else. I wonder why no one else has said anything about the keywords issues. I would think that with so many peopel using them, there would be more complaints, or discussions.

  • My iTunes Wish List won't let me remove items, how can I (or Apple) fix this?

I have a pretty full iTunes Wish List but when I want to remove a song/album, it says it will later but it never does, this is driving me nuts, I need some assistance without deleting my entire iTunes Library

I'm having exactly the same problem, also with 10.2.2 and OS 10.6.7. I've got about 40 items in the list and I have repeatedly tried to delete about half because the price went up but they won't go away.
Additionally, when I point at any one of the items, instead of a single delete circle (far right of the item), I get two, one larger than the other. Neither seems to make any difference. When I do delete the items, the total in my cart does not decrease and if I click out of wish list and back in, all the items I deleted return.
Sorry that's not help to you, but I hope that Apple notices and does something about this.

That folder with the question mark icon means that the MacBook can't find the boot directory. That can either mean it can't find the hard drive or the Operating System data on the hard drive is somehow corrupted.
Put your install DVD into the optical drive (CD/DVD drive) and reboot. As soon as you hear the boot chime, hold down the "c" key on your keyboard (or the Option key until the Install Disk shows up). That will force your MacBook to boot from the install DVD in the optical drive.
When it does start up, you'll see a panel asking you to choose your language. Choose your language and press the Return key on your keyboard once. It will then present you with an Installation window. Completely ignore this window and click on Utilities in the top menu and scroll down to Disk Utility and click it. When it comes up is your Hard Drive in the list on the left?
If it is then click on the Mac OS partition of your hard drive in the left hand list. Then select the First Aid Tab and run Repair Disk. The Repair Disk button won't be available until you've clicked on the Mac OS partition on your hard drive. If that repairs any problems run it again until the green OK appears and then run Repair Permissions.
If your hard drive isn’t recognized in Disk Utility then your hard drive is probably dead.

  • 20G U2special edition i-pod "do not disconect" won't go away

    Hello I need help!!!!
I connected the Ipod to the pc and the "do not disconnect" icon appeared...Then it took a while I tried to disconnected in the pc using the eject button but my pc didn't recognized it(ITUNES didn't recognized the ipod either) I intalled the latest software, try to use the updater to restored but it can't read it. Now I plug everything off of it and it still shows that Icon. I put it to charge and it looks its charging and when using the hold button I can de the little lock icon, but the "do not disconnect icon is still there my pc doesn't recornize it and I can't listen to anything.
If anyone have ideas please let me know Thanks!

Now when I connect my nano to the new computer, it says it's synching but when it's done the "do not disconnect" won't go away (I let it stay connected all night and when I woke up it was still there)
If you have your iPod set to automatically sync with iTunes version 7 or later, connect the iPod and when you see the summary screen, uncheck the box marked "enable disk use".
If you are using an earlier version of iTunes, right click on the iPod in the source list, select options and uncheck the same box.
In future your iPod should automatically disconnect after it’s finished transferring music.
