Aperture 3 library won't show repair library screen

I tried to update my Aperture 2 library today (470GB) and everything worked just fine till it got to 96% and stayed at this percentage, so i force-quit Aperture. The library now only shows 400GB but I have one still in the old version with the rest of the pictures (according to the size). The new library opens but most of the thumbnails are screwed up (just vertical lines or black screens), so I wanted to repair the library (I also cannot import it into a completely new library) but holding down command & option while double-clicking the library just opens up the library instead of going to the repair window. Any ideas on how I can force it to come up?
EDIT: Totally forgot: It says in the activity that it is updating the library and going through the photos. No idea what it is doing, I'll let it run for now but it'll take some time till I know what it does, since it tells me it needs to go through >10,000 objects.

Sorry that was not helpful. I am using the trial version only and HELP states 'Aperture provides a few methods for reconstituting your Aperture library and the file relationships within it.'
To repair or rebuild your Aperture library : - following by empty white space.
Having looked through Aperture Commands under the Aperture Menu I cannot find any likely entry other than I have already mentioned.
Good luck.

Hey, I'm having the exact same problem.
I just got my Macbook Pro and I tried to partition/install windows xp the first day I got it. After successfully partitioning my HD, the 50GB partition didn't show up while trying to install the windows platform.
To be a bit more specific, it doesn't even show up in my startup disk in the system preferences menu (if that's any help?)
So after about a week of abandoning my Macbook and going back to my PC I went to the Apple store and someone from the genius bar just told me to reformat the entire thing...so that's what I did and I'm still having the same problem.
    Any advice Lyssa?

  • Aperture wont open and says "repairing library database" even when 100% complete it still wont open

my aperture won't open and says "repairing library database"  even when it gets up to 100% complete it just suts there frozen and won't open to the aperture screen

How many Images?  How much storage space does the Library occupy?  Do you have plenty of free space on your system drive?
Ignore the progress bar — it's often stuck, and therefore unreliable.
Ignore Activity Monitor reporting Aperture "Not Responding".  This is, imho, a bug Apple should have squashed years ago.
Repairing (or doing any operations an entire Library) a large Library can take hours or days.  You did not report what you did to get past 79% — I'm going to guess you Force-quit Aperture.  Force-quitting any database is always a bad idea and should only be done as a last resort.  Each time you force quit, you are likely adding to your problem.
Restart the rebuild, and let it run, unmolested, for at least 40 hours.  IME, at some point the progress bar with jump to 99%, then 100%, and then stay there for perhaps a few more hours, and then it finishes.
I have _never_ had a repair or a rebuild (I have not had to do many rebuilds) _not_ finish.  One took about 82 hours, but it finished.
If your Library is small — say, fewer than 100,000 Images _and_ smaller than 100 GB — and you're seeing these very long rebuild times, you likely have an actual problem — but the only way I know to find out is to let the rebuild continue.  (I don't store any but small video in Aperture, and very few of them, so my numbers may not correspond to Libraries that store videos.)
Did you notice any other problems before Aperture itself recommended rebuilding?
In short: let it run unmolested.

  • Iphoto library won't show folders

When using spotlight to locate a specific photo in my iphoto library, it shows a file located in the iphoto library. When I go to finder to find that same file (user/pictures/iphotolibrary), I only get an icon for the library, but no file tree. I used disk first aid to repair the permissions, but nothing was related to iphoto.
iphoto 8.1.2 Mac OS 10.6.4 Macbook Pro 2.8Ghz

The iPhoto Library is not designed to be accessed via the Finder. SImply, doing so strongly risks damaging your Library. Further, as the Library can contain up to three versions of a photo, how do you know you're accessing the correct version.
iPhoto, not the Finder, is your photo manager. Search the Library with iPhoto, with am media browser (there's one in every 'Open... ' dialogue in the entire OS.
There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:
*For Users of 10.5 and later*
You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Command-Click for selecting multiple pics.
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
(Note the above illustration is not a Finder Window. It's the dialogue you get when you go File -> Open)
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
*For users of 10.4 and later* ...
Many internet sites such as Flickr and SmugMug have plug-ins for accessing the iPhoto Library. If the site you want to use doesn’t then some, one or any of these will also work:
To upload to a site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. However, if you're using Gmail you can use iPhoto2GMail
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
*If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running*:
For users of 10.6 and later:
You can download a free Services component from MacOSXAutomation which will give you access to the iPhoto Library from your Services Menu. Using the Services Preference Pane you can even create a keyboard shortcut for it.
For Users of 10.4 and later:
Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
    Other options include:
    1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.

  • I need to access one folder in user library folder from my time machine backup......but it won't show a library folder

I need to access one folder in user library folder from my time machine backup......but the backup disk won't show show a library folder.
Pressing option-go only directs me to the current library folder in my hard drive. I have opened up the saved disk image and need to copy one folder and put it into my current library. Trying to restore using time capsule won't let me into the user library either......
thanks in advance for any help

The Saved Application State folder is where Lion stores all the information required for its resume feature to function as it does. As you are looking for a specific saved game folder it will not be in the Saved Application State folder. This folder was not present in Snow Leopard so wouldn't be present on your backup previous to the Lion install.
The game saves you're looking for will most likely be located in the Application Support or Preferences folder.
    Hope this helps

  • My movies and music videos won't show up on screen, I can hear the sound but not see the video how do I fix this?

My movies and music videos won't show up on my computer screen, I can hear the sound but not see the video how do I fix this? I'm not sure what to do as far as turning my purchased movie into DVD goes either. I just want to put the movie onto a DVD disc but my itunes won't even show that I have a blank disc in the drive, I'm not sure what is wrong or how to fix this, any help at all would be much appreciated.

    Hi @anthony7722 ,
Thank you for your query, I will do my best to help!
I grasp that you uninstalled the Intel graphic driver and the catalyst control.  You reinstalled the Intel driver and now you can view and hear videos on the Internet but you are unable to set the resolution as high as previously.
When I checked the specifications for your notebook I see that you have switchable graphics.
Here are two links that I believe will help.
Overview of Switchable Graphics or Dual GPUs
Switchable Graphics on Notebooks Configured with Intel and ATI GPUs
Here is a link to HP Pavilion dv7-6150eb Entertainment Notebook PC Drivers
    Please try this process.
    1. Download the chipset driver, and both graphic drivers and save them  but do not install them yet
2, Delete the chipset driver and install the updated one.
    3. restart your notebook
4.Delete the Intel driver and install the updated one
    5. restart your notebook
    6. Delete the AMD driver and install the updated driver.
You should now have a Catalyst Control Center.
This should now allow you to use the higher graphic card which should support the higher resolution.
    I hope this helped.

  • My iphoto library won't show when trying to select a photo for other programs?

I am having a problem when I try to select a photo or itunes song in Imovie or other programs. I get a window with grey lettering that says: "Open Itunes to populate this list" or "Open iphoto to see photos from your iPhoto library in this list.  I have tried relaunching programs and nothing appears. Seemed to start happening a while back after one of my system upgrades.

    What version of iPhoto?
    What version of the OS?
Sounds like an issue with the iLife integration, rather than the apps.

  • IPhoto Library won't show up in Source List.

My most recently updated iPhoto library is located on my main hard drive.  Other older libraries are on a couple of external hard drives.  When I close iPhoto, reopen and hold down the Option key, I am able to choose which library I want to use.  I do so, but the most recent library will only leave the source list on the left of the iPhoto window with no photo.  What do I need to do to 'connect' iPhoto with this library of photos?  iPhoto 9.2.3

Sorry for not explaining fully.  On the source list, everything under "Library" and "Recent" is populated with the photos as they should be.  It is in the "Albums" list where all albums are blank (without the photos).  That is what is puzzling.  Anyone with a solution?

  • ITunes won't show shared library on Mac

So, I have a network of a Mac Mini G4, a PC desktop with Win XP, and a netbook with Win XP. I have iTunes running on each machine - iTunes 10.0.1 on the two Win XP machines, and iTunes 9.2.1 on a Mac Mini G4 with OS X 10.4.11. I have authorized each iTunes with the same iTunes account. And I have verified that all three machines are on the same subnet and in the same network (SMB is set up to the same name as the Windows machines). I can share files between all three machines in any direction. However, I can only access shared libraries in iTunes on the two PCs - the Mac Mini never displays any shared libraries in iTunes.
I have gone into Preferences on all three machines and verified that each is set up to look for shared libraries and share their libraries. I even enabled Home Sharing on each machine just in case. But still, I can access the Mac library from both PCs and play the music, and I can access the PC libraries from each PC. But I cannot access either PC library from the Mac Mini.
    Any ideas??

    UPDATE:
Figuring the main link in the chain is the fact I'm using a 3rd party USB wifi adapter on my Mac Mini, I unplugged it, and plugged the Mini directly into the router with an ethernet cable. Everything works fine then - iTunes library sharing works, and the Touch can now access it with the Remote app.
So, apparently it is the Planex GW-US54GXS USB Wifi adapter that is the problem. Completely uninstalled the drivers for the Planex wifi device, restarted, reinstalled, still same problem.
Wierd thing is I can still access the internet, and do file sharing between all devices. Just iTunes communication is a problem.
Any ideas what the Planex wifi device might be interfering with iTunes?

  • Aperture pictures won't show up in finder/itunes

I was recently having some weird issues with my OS. So I backed up all my files, did a clean install, and manually moved everything back into place. Everything seemed to be working great. I didn't realize it until today when I tried to put some pictures on my new iPad, but I cannot access my pictures in iTunes to put on my iPad or through finder (photos) to upload to something like facebook.
When I try to upload pictures to my iPad it says:
your aperture library could not be found. Open the preference window in Aperture and enable the preference to share previews with other applications.
Went and checked the preferences in aperture and it shows always allow.
When I go to upload a picture to facebook or Flickr I choose photos and the only option is iPhoto, no aperture.
    Any suggestions?

Think I spoke too soon. I just synced 7000 photos with my Apple TV and thought everything was good to go. Now I just took some more pictures and imported them into Aperture and now iTunes says my Aperture Library has 0 photos! I repeated this routine of switching to an empty library and back, but it doesn't work any more!!! Help!

  • IPhoto '09 library rebuild has no "Repair Library" option

Recently I've given in to doing some cleanup with regards to my iPhoto library.  Looking around on the forums some people gave some tips on how to go about this, some suggested apps for purchase and some free scripts people made themselves.  For some reason one app I was using couldn't find all of the dupes and would only find some, and the script I found would get interrupted and stopped at a point basically saying that a certain file isn't where it's supposed to be, probably due to a few times that I just manually deleted the photo from it's location instead of deleting it in iPhoto and having iPhoto do its job.  So it seems the iPhoto Library isn't updated, and isn't updating.  Attempted to do the library rebuild as a possible solution and the first option in the screenshot isn't available when i hold command + option keys as instructed
instead, this is what i get
re: automatic backup, my external drive that I normally backup to is currently out of commission so that's not an option.  Thanks.

The top screenshot is from iPhoto 11, the lower one is from iPhoto 09. That's why they are different.
Here's a thing: if this is the case
... due to a few times that I just manually deleted the photo from it's location instead of deleting it in iPhoto...
Your library is not fixable by iPhoto. You've corrupted it beyond repair.
    Options now:
    1. Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
Depending on how much damage you've done this may or may not work. But it's free and worth a try.
    2. Restore from a back up created before you damaged the Library. (BTW "my external drive that I normally backup to is currently out of commission" means "I don't have a back up", doesn't it?)
    3. Create a new Library, recover your masters and start over from scratch.
