[Aperture 3] Lost Ability to keyword multiple photos

I hope the title was somewhat descriptive without being too long...
Anyway, I'm a fairly committed used of Keywords, or tags. (In fact, moreso than the built in metadata which I could probably use more appropriate, but that's a post for a different day...)
I'm pretty behind on sorting, rating, tagging my photos, and started work on catching up this past week. I immediately noticed that where I used to be able to select multiple photos in the browser, and then 1) remove unwanted keywords in bulk and/or 2) apply keywords in bulk to multiple photos, I can no longer do so.
I've restarted Aperture, as well as my computer in case something in the DB was hung, but neither seems to make a difference. I haven't changed any settings in Aperture. So...?
Any thoughts/ideas on what may be going on, or more importantly, how to rectify, and I would GREATLY appreciate it!!
thanks
nick
UPDATE:
It wasn't until I posted this that I found another discussion thread on the same topic - THE FIX:: Somehow EDIT\PRIMARY ONLY got selected, and unchecking that fixed the issue.
Sorry for extra spam on the boards here - moderator may delete.
thanks!

  • Lost ability to add multiple copies of a song to Shuffle

I lost the ability to add multiple copies of the same song to my iPod Shuffle since updating my software.
Since updating my software, I lost the ability to add multiple copies of a song to the shuffle. Before the updates, I could add as many copies as I wanted. I liked having multiple copies of my favorite songs, so that I could hear certain songs over and over again when I was in the linear play mode.
I also don't have a manual update option on my shuffle. I actually don’t know if I ever had this option. I just noticed others were talking about it and that your site mentioned the option, so I was trying to use the function to avoid the automatic updating and inadvertent loss of songs that may no longer be in my library. I guess I have to live with the auto-update feature, since I think the Shuffle is simply lacking this feature that is found in the more expensive iPODs.
I just updated to iTunes 6.0, hoping that this latest update would fix my problems, but there was no change. I still have the problem with not being able to ad multiple copies of the same song.
    Any ideas?

Thank you for the tip about renaming the song. I will try it, although I think it may not help since I don't have any way to uncheck the autofill option. As it turns out, the Shuffles don't have the option for a manual update. If I change the name of the songs, it will simply erase the original song, since it will no longer be in the library. I think there is a chance it will work, until I reinsert the Shuffle to make changes. That would be OK, if it worked temporarily, so I am hopeful that it might work. I may also be able to trick the Shuffle by adding the song from a playlist, in which I have renamed the song only on the list, not in the library.
This just bugs me, since I could add multiple copies before the updates.
I just tried to change the name of a song on a playlist, but shuffle changed the name everywhere in the iTunes application. It looks like iTunes may be a little like Microsoft Word, in that it starts making “corrections” all by itself. In general, I don’t like it when things start changing all by themselves.
I may try to ditch the updates and go back to the original software.

  • Lightroom 4 Keywording Multiple Photos

I'm in library mode and trying to add the same series of keywords to a group of about 60 photos.  All these photos are highlighted at the bottom of my screen but one photo appears to be highlighted more brightly.  I've typed in a group of keywords in my sidebar and then clicked enter.  I thought that action should tag all 60 photos with the same keywords but it doesn't.  Only the brightly highlighted photo gets the keywords.  Surely there has to be a way to tag multiple photos with the same keywords all at once.  I've watched Cris Orwig's video on Adobe and am following the same steps he demonstrates but the keywords are only tagged to the one photo.  Am I missing something simple here?
    Thank you
    Mark

I just reviewed http://tv.adobe.com/watch/learn-lightroom-5/adding-keywords/ in which Chris Orwig clearly shows adding keywords to multiple images in the filmstrip, NOT in the grid view.  Of course, MY Lightroom doesn't allow me to add keywords to multiple images using the method shown in this video.  And just an added note that this is the EXACT same video shown under the label "learn-lightroom-4/adding-keywords/ so I don't know if this could be done in v4 but not in v5 and someone just screwed up by reusing the same video.....  Thanks Jim Wilde and everyone else for your help.  I was starting to pull my hair out.

  • Has the ability to select multiple photos quickly by dragging your finger been removed in IOS 5?

In iOS 4, multiple photos could be quickly selected in the Photos app by selecting one, holding done your finger and dragging across all the others you wished to select.  This was a tremendous timesaver when importing or deleting large numbers of photos instead of tapping each one individually, but it appears that this cant be done in ios 5.  Can anyone confirm?

Can I bring this to the top of someone's list by posting this reply? I really miss this feature too!

  • Lost functionality for selecting multiple photos?

In iOS previous to 5 I could go into my imported photos, choose select, then tap, hold and drag my finger across multiple photos to select a whole page very quickly. This functionality seems to be gone in iOS 5 and each individual photo needs to be tapped -- one by one. This is a serious step back for those who import many photos from their camaras and then want to clean out the imported photos quickly. Can anyone confirm this functionality is still there and perhaps I am not seeing how to do it?

I don't whether it was possible prior to iOS 5 (I'm not aware that it was), but I don't appear to be able to do it in iOS 5

  • Lost ability to easily build photo pages?

With this new update I kind of lost one of my favorite features of iPhoto. Thats the one click web gallery. We are now forced to use the new iWeb application, which just adds a extra step. Also its really slow when its moving the photos over.

I have just realized what Apple have done too, and am bitterly disappointed. I'm thinking of changing back to iPhoto 5, I don't need photocasting or any of that other stuff. I don't like iWeb, it's not a very smart application at all.
I really hope Apple releases an update to iPhoto that brings back homepage functionality, as this new stuff is awful. How the **** am I going to publish new photos to my homepage, I have to publish them to a separate section now... why ???
It doesn't make sense, especially after all the work I have done making my homepage presentable, now they want to move me somewhere else, using an application that wont compress my images so I use up more of my storage and therefore run out of space quicker.
I didn't think Apple was this incompetent, or maybe they just want to screw their users.

  • I used an AppleTV to display on a TV 30,000 digitized family photos stored on my iMac.  When I opted to use iCloud, I lost ability to show my photos.  All I could show are canned Apple photos.  I am willing to pay for iCloud storage.

How do I display on AppleTV screen saver my library of 30000 digitized family photos?  I am glad to pay for extra iCloud storage.

iCloud does not include a feature like the old MobileMe Gallery.
Photo Stream does work on the AppleTV, but will only show the last 1000 photos taken and synced to iCloud. You can't create user-defined galleries.
Until June 30th 2012 (when MobileMe closes down), you can still access your MobileMe Galleries, by logging in using your [email protected] MobileMe AppleID and password. That still works for now.
Unfortunately, I don't think there is a long-term solution for your particular usage.

  • Lost ability to select multiple images easily in Organizer

I have always been able to select a range of photos by clicking on the first and then Shift-clicking on the last photo in the range.  Everything in MS Windows and almost all Windows apps work this way.
Suddenly, I can no longer even select an image by clicking it in Organizer.  The only way to select is to drag a rectangle around the particular photo until it's selected.  The only way I can select more than one is to hold down the CTRL key while dragging selection boxes around additional files.  The only way I can select a range of photos is to laboriously CTRL-drag-select each one individually.
What in the world happened?  I cannot see anything in Preferences that applies to this situation and searching on the keywork, "select" turns up nothing applicable.
    Thanks.

  • Lost ability to create multiple tabs

I've been able to create multiple tabs by clicking the "plus" sign at the right of the current tab. Haven't been able to do that for some reason. I usually create several tabs so I can view several sites by clicking any tab.

Yes, just recently upgraded, so I got confused about the QT/FCP movie.
    Thank you.
In terms of the print to tape, I selected the file and went print to tape from
the created QT movie. Only small problem were two very small audio pops
on the tape that don't exist on the QT movie. Could it be a dirty deck head
or is there something I'm not doing?
Either way, thank you both for your help.

  • Multiple photos printing

New iPhoto version seems to have lost ability to print several photos to one full sheet. Buried dropdown for multiple photos is greyed out.How to put either multiple copies of single or single copies of multiple pix on single sheet?

    l Ellen Jay
Welcome to the Apple users help forums
to print multiple photos select the photos and click print - select the printer, paper, and print size (must be small enough to fit multiples on the paper you selected with some borders) and click customize - click on the settings icon (the little gear looking thingy) and in the pull down menu select print multiple photos per page -- to put multiple copies on one page select print multiples of a photo per page) - the multiple photo layout should appear in the preview window and click print to print it
If this does not work quit iPhoto and trash the iPhoto preference file - "your username" ==> library ==> library ==> com.apple.iPhoto.plist - and launch iPhoto - it will create a new default preference file - reset any user preferences you have changed and if you have changed the iPhoto library from the default location , repoint iPhoto to it

  • Upload Multiple Photos

With the Wiki Server on Snow Leopard, a user was able to compress multiple photos into a zip file and upload the zip file.  The server would then uncompress it and insert all the images into the Wiki entry.
The Wiki Server on Lion will not accept zip files when you upload photos and you are unable to select more than one photo at a time.  It would be a huge pain for our teachers to have to upload one photo at a time and has prevented me from rolling out our new Lion Wiki Server to the public.
Am I missing something in regards to having the ability to upload multiple photos?

No I don't think that you are missing anything, it is the wiki that is missing what I had considered a basic requirement.
However, on going away and thinking about it I fear that it might be an intentional decision by Apple.  They have also removed the alignment options for images, i.e. images can only be centered in a page.
My guess is that they have decided that wiki 3 is not an image library and therefore have not included the option to upload multiple images!
I have looked into the upload .js code and because of the information that the wiki returns to the page it's not obvious how they would handle the creation of lots of images in one go 9 OK anything is doable but I fear the way they have implemented the image addition doesn't make it easy)
All in all not a very helpful response but I wouldn't hold your breath for .zip uploads to become available.
In some ways it would be easier to install an image gallery 'app' on the server and use an iFrame on a wiki page to look at it from within a page.

  • Aperture will not assign keywords to multiple photos

Recently I have not been able to assign keywords to multiple photos simultaneously. I also have the same problem when I try to copy adjustments and stamp to multiple photos. Only the one with the main selection is processed. Is this a bug in the newest Aperture (3.4.5)?
    Edit:
Sorry, I found the solution and wasn't able to delete the question: The problem was that the Primary Only button was active.
Message was edited by: Ernst Vikne

You may have the "Primary Only" flag set. Then keywords, ratings, etc will only be applied to the primary selection. Turn it off in Aperture's "Edit" menu: Edit > Primary Only or press the button with the framed "1".

You may want to have a look at this User Tip:                  Keywords or ratings are applied only to one of the selected images - why?

  • When I imported my photos from iPhoto to Aperture, I appear to have lost all my keywords.  Can I retrieve them and, if so, how?

    How did you import them?
Keywords are preserved if you use either the Import iPhoto Library or Show iPhoto Browser methods.

  • Aperture 3: How to apply keywords to multiple photos?

    Hi,
I'm trying to apply keywords to multiple photos at once but if I select several photos and add a keyword in the 'metadata' panel it just gets applied to one of the selected photos, not all of them. Is this a bug or am I just doing it wrong?
    Thanks,
    Sam

    I see,
But that requires that said keyword already exists which slows down the workflow when you're dealing with lots of new keywords, or even existing ones if you have lots and lots of keywords instead of just typing in a keyword (and it perhaps auto-completes). Also I'm somewhat of a keyboard-centric user
    Thanks for the suggestion,
    Sam

  • Problem Applying Keywords to Multiple Photos

Under Aperture 2.1.4 and OSX 10.6, I've apparently lost the ability to apply a keyword to multiple photos at one time. When I click the keyword or drag it, only one photo gets the keyword regardless of how many are selected.
I only noticed this shortly after upgrading, so I've assumed it was related to 2.1.4 or 10.6. Hidden preference somewhere? Something else obvious?
    Any ideas?

Look for the big button with a '1' on it at the bottom of your Viewer/Browser in the Aperture window.
If it is on (dark grey) it means that if you use Stamp of try to add keywords those things will only happen to the image with the Primary image (thicker white selection border) and not to any other images (thin white border) that you have also selected.
If you turn it off (light grey) andy stamps/keywords will be added to all of the selected images.
this does not apply to adjustments, those are always only applied to the Primary image (expect when using the Lift&Stamp)
