Aperture 3: low quality preview images

I don’t know if it's just a problem with my (new) Aperture Trial library or if it's a Aperture 3 bug:
The preview images Aperture 3 (trial) creates from raw files (in my case NEFs) are different from the JPEGs exported using the same JPEG settings.
I get the impression that the preview images don’t use all the adjustments applied to the raw files. They don’t have the moire reduction applied. The preview images of high ISO images have color noise, the exported images don’t have that color noise (the moire and noise settings of raw fine tuning are applied to the exported files but not to the image previews).
As the preview images are used for the Finder media browser, iLife, iPhone/iPod touch picture sync and other things the lower quality is not acceptable for me.
The preview images of Aperture 2 are identical to the exported JPEGs from Aperture 2 (using the same settings).
I use Aperture 3 Trial with a new trial library and a few hundred raw images just to test Aperture 3.
I already erased all preview images and rebuild the previews. I deselected using the embedded JPEGs from the raw files and I let Aperture rebuild the miniatures.

It seems that Ap2 syncs the previews to the iPhone... you have to clear the previous cached previews before it will load higher quality previews... anyhow, here is what I did... and photos look better on my iphone (not feeling motivated enough to verify if it is the same quality as iphoto sync)...
1.) change Ap2 prefs for "limit preview size" to "don't limit"...
2.) select all the photos in the album(s) you are want to sync, right click (ctrl click), and select delete previews...
3.) sync your iphone again...
if that doesn't work directly, you might need to uncheck sync photos to delete all photos on the iphone, but the ultimate goal is to ensure refresh with the higher quality previews...
Hope that makes sense or gets folks in the right direction... Apple really needs to put a check box in future version of itunes to sync full quality or something...

  • Low-quality iPhone images from Aperture 2.0

Hi. I'm trying Aperture 2.0, and I configured iTunes to sync some photos from Aperture with my iPhone.
The problem is, the photos on my iPhone from Aperture are noticeably lower in quality than those synced from iPhoto. The images are blurry and look like low-quality JPG's.
In Aperture's preferences, I set the preview quality slider to maximum and set the limit preview size menu to "don't limit". Still, the images on my iPhone are of poor quality.
Is there anything I can do to make the images Aperture exports to my iPhone look as good as those synced from iPhoto?
    Thanks!

  • How to get lower-quality previews when working with Full-HD?

I'm working with Full-HD video, but I don't need preview (rendered) files to be 1920x1080 too. It takes a lot of disk space and a lot of time to render preview files.
Is there a way to have them some lower quality? For example 720x405 resolution would be enough.
But when I want to make a final export, I need to get Full-HD video.
    Thanks!

Use a Custom sequence and change the previews as desired.

  • Resizing Multiple Images to a lower quality of image in photoshop CS3

    Hi there,
I want to re size a lot of images to a lower quality. Is there a way of doing this process without having to open each individual file time after time. All the images are different sizes. I just want to lower the size of the file for putting in a pdf catalogue.
I'm sure there is a way of doing this and I probably have been shown before but I have completely forgotten.
I would appreciate any help or advice please. I'm using CS3.
    Thanks a million
    Ben

    Hi Ben,
I usualy crate an Action. This is what you do:
Place all your files into one directory, and create another directory inside that directory called for example. resized.
1.) Open Photoshop. Create an Action. New Action
2.) Than open one image from the directory
    3.) resize it.
    4.) Save it into resized
    5.) Close it
6.) Switch Recording OFF for the Action.
And than you just play it over and over again. Worked for me all the time.

  • Aperture 3 low resolution previews

    Hello all,
I've been using Aperture 3 for a few weeks now and loving it. I read in the forums about how previews are set to low resolution and i've been having problems trying to get them back to a high resolution image file. I've imported the photos in iPhoto 09 and exported them to Aperture 3 (which are high resolution image files) to do further enhancement. After working with them, i noticed that the resolution dropped significantly. As a test,I dragged a photo which i've worked on to the desktop and it gave me a very low resolution. I then tried to export the same file using the drop menu to the desktop but still a very low resolution. Is there a way to get them back to a high resolution image file?
The second thing i did was to export the photos to my mac gallery and so i uploaded them with the original files but i still get the photos that i've worked on with a low resolution. The original files are still in high resolution.
    Please advice and thanks everyone.
    Brian

It might help to clarify your workflow:
I've imported the photos in iPhoto 09 and exported them to Aperture 3
There is no way to "export photos" from iPhoto to Aperture, so how exactly did you get them there? Export/Import? Drag and Drop... from where to where?
After working with them, i noticed that the resolution dropped significantly.
What do you mean by "resolution"? Do you mean the dpi? The file size?
As a test,I dragged a photo which i've worked on to the desktop and it gave me a very low resolution.
This only produces a Preview, but again, what do you mean by "low resolution."
    Regards
    TD

  • Why are slide show images less sharp than preview images?

    Dear Aperture users,
as documented in the manual and on Apple's support pages, Aperture 3 uses the preview images for its slide show. However, when I compare the quality of my preview images in full-screen mode with the quality of the slide show images, the preview images clearly look sharper.
Apparently, Aperture's slide show does not simply use the preview images as documented, but applies some sort of "adjustment", resulting in less crisp looking images. Since I haven't found any satisfying answer yet, my questions are:
1). What exactly is the adjustment that slide show applies to the preview images?
2). Can I somehow tweak this adjustment, say, with a terminal command?
    Best regards,
    Dirk61.

iPhoto can make two different types of slide show movies. It would help to know which you're making.
One is made via the File/Export to QuickTime movie and makes a 4 track file with a simple fade effect. These use the Photo-JPEG codec.
The other is a 30 fps "video" using H.264 video codec via the "Share" menu.
A third method (rarely used) is to Export to iDVD. This makes an absurdly high data rate MPEG-4 video. This is also found under the Share menu.
The MPEG-4 video codec also includes an "automatic" gamma correction feature which compensates for the gammas difference between Mac's and PC's.
Try one export to iDVD. Include your audio track prior but use a high quality (.aiff) sound file. No need to actually "burn" the DVD. You can even close iDVD after it opens. You'll find the new movie in your Users Movie folder.
Open it with QT Pro and export to a new .mov file. Adjust the data rate to something more reasonable and add some audio compression.
If the colors still look too dark you can use the built in Filters in the Export dialog. You can adjust B&C or HSL or even use ColorSync Profiles that can help correct the image quality (if needed).

  • Low quality images in web gallery from Output Module

So when I create a web gallery slideshow using the output module I get SUPER-low quality images, like big jagged, pixellated lines in place of any diagonal line in the pictures. However, only photos in the portrait orientation are affected by this problem. Landscape-oriented photos look perfectly normal, just smaller.
My first thought was that maybe the images were low quality in the web gallery preview but wouldn't be in the actual saved file, but alas I saved the index.html file and when I preview it in my web browser I get the same result with the portrait-oriented photos.
Any idea how to fix this? Other than only using landscape photos in my gallery of course!
    Thanks!

The same problem here. I've noticed it just yesterday, but my Safari rendering is affected the same way.
I don't think it has anything to do with the recent updates. I reinstalled my MacOS X Leopard day ago and all the images (jpg, gif) have been somehow in lower quality ever since that moment. Even before I installed all new updates today.
The strangest think is, that it wasn't like this before the reinstallation. I used the same media, and I have, indeed, the same machine.
I'm hopeless. Have you already found some solution? Or anybody? Would be great...
    Martin

  • Upgraded to CS5.5. Images in Indesign are displayed in lower quality after being saved in PS

    Hello,
i upgraded to the Creative Suite 5.5 today and detected a strange behaviour. I work on a document which has been generated on another system with an older version of the Creative Suite. Everything is
fine until i open and save one of the images which are used in an Indesign-Layout in Photoshop. After doing this the saved image is displayed with lower quality than before while all other pictures
remain at the same preview quality level. Of course i can change to »Überdruckenvorschau – maybe overprint preview« (Sorry - i do not know how this is named in the english version) or change to the high quality view but
this is a little bit too much for working.
    Do you have any ideas?
    thank you so much,
    tm

I suspect the old High Quality preview was retained (like the text layout will be retained on a converted file until you touch the story in some way, at which point it will be recomposed using the new text engine) and when you replaced the image a new prview as drawn using the current view settings.
Enable High Quality Display if that's the view you want.

  • Preview in Canvas and Quicktime movie export  low quality

    Hi Guys
I am trying to make a slideshow/movie using Final Cut Express HD 3.0 the preview in the canvas is very low quality both with the images and titles. I have tried to export to quicktime movie but that movie is still very low quality. They are not sharp and are pixelated. The images look fine with Preview and iPhoto. I do not have quicktime pro I don't know if that has anything to do with it.
    Thanks a bunch

This comes up pretty off and was discussed in the last couple of days. You might do a forum search. Basically you'll looking at a lores display unless you look at the output on a video monitor.

  • Lower quality when viewing in Preview

I have this issue on a BP with 10.5.4 and also a G4 with 10.4.11., and that is that images in Preview are not the same as viewed in any other app, which all look the same. I'm not talking about the look of colors or symptoms of having mismatched profiles, because the colors and shades are the same. But there's a subtle, though definite, slightly lower quality look when using Preview. I've been through the limited preference options and nothing makes it right.
It's almost as if there's a very slight noise, or unsharp mask artifact, or resolution mismatch (toggling the "respect DPI doesn't make it disappear) though it doesn't appear it other apps.
    What's the deal? : )
    Thanks.

I'm disappointed that Mail on the mac has not added options to control Marking as Read When Viewing in the Preview Pane. I'm using Mail 3.6 (latest as of July 2009) on 10.5.7, and this is still not supported. I have just finished switching to a new mac from a PowerBook G4 867 which I purchased in 2002, and I moved Entourage v.X (not even 2004 or 2008) app and mailboxes over to my new macbook pro. Then I used Mail 3.6 to Import Mailboxes from Entourage. I also imported contacts to Address Book and calendar items to iCal, etc. Finally I can leave Entourage behind --> Not necessarily.
Entourage v.X and Windows Outlook have had this feature for at least five years. Why has this feature been skipped in Mail all this time?
Previewing a message is not the same as Reading the message. Situation one: I like to use the up/down arrows to scroll quickly through messages, and consider which are the most important. Oops, now they're all marked Read! Situation two: Occasionally I click on the wrong message. Oops - it's marked Read now.
Simplest solution: Provide an on/off control: Mark Previewed Messages as Read - on or off
Richer solution: Provide timer control: Mark Previewed Messages as Read After 'n' seconds: - <n>
At least give us the Simpler boolean solution.
I found several threads on the same topic marked as Answered/Resolved. The workaround of getting rid of the preview pane is a poor workaround compared to what has been requested though it seems to be all we have so far. Admins should close the dangling threads only after posting a note indicating why.
TruePreview was proposed as a solution in one of the threads, but I have not tried that. If others have tried and are happy with it, please let me know.
    Thanks...Alan

  • Problems with "save for web" app low quality messed up images

Please help I have never had a problem with the "save for web" application before (over three years) I am currently running A.I. cs3 on windows vista. in the past whenever I save anything this way the images were always clean. as of yesterday everything I try to save through the save for web app the images are very low quality all the vector has jagged edges, it is very low rez looking and the file sizes are very small, half the size they normaly would be. What did I do to change the settings or better yet how can I get it back to the way it was.

Thank you for your help I moved the folder but it still did not fix this problem. it is also not just the jpg option under the save for web app but all the setting ie. gif, png, ect. ect. Also the the files sizes are much less, example I exported a design as a jpg with the quality setting about 6 the file size was 374kb when I exported the same design through the save for web app the file size was only 45 kb on the quilty setting of 100. further more in the preview screen of "save for web" the original images as well as the optimized both look messed up. The "save for web" app has always worked for me in the past never a problem and I use this app alot so it is very important.

  • Lightroom 4.1 low quality image in develop module

Hi all, i have a macbook pro with retina display, in my lightroom 4.1 the images in the library look normal but when i go to develop module the image is blurred and very low quality. In settings the rendering are high quality 2048 1:1
Any way to fix this? Also in my external monitor i notice this thing with minor loss.

This probably won't help you but the preview settings don't affect the Develop module. In Develop the image is rendered from the raw data.
Are you seeing this with raw files? JPEGs? Is it a huge camera file?

Hey Sierra, You can do just what you have stated. My question, what is your "other"? If it is over 1.5 GB you most likely have corrupt files. Doing a Restore to New, Factory restore should correct it. Just make sure you make a full backup of all information on your iPod to your computer before you restore, so you don't lose your stuff, contacts, videos, pictures, non-iTunes music, etc, use the cable and connect with your computer. Then, via cable, connect to your computer, run the Restore to new, don't use your backup. Treat this iPod as if it was your first one ever. When restore is done, set up and add what info you wish to install on this iPod. The music apps etc you purchased should be on your computer, if not you should be able to retrieve purchased apps and music from iTunes. Any music, videos, apps not purchased from iTunes will be lost to you if you do not save them to your computer or the cloud first. When your done, make a current Backup and you should good to go. Hope this helps. Good luck. Cheers.

  • Incorrect image size and low quality file (Photoshop CC trial ver. on Macbook Pro Retina)

At first, I set 500x500 size
but in workplace, it show smaller than 500x500 (maybe 250x250?)
I check on "image > image size" it still show me 500x500 pixels
    Save for web
After that, i got a 500x500 file but It resize from smaller to 500x500 , so... i got a low quality file.
    what's wrong?
(sorry for bad english skill but i really want your help)
Ps. it also incorrect when i set resolution as 300dpi

Pixel is not a measurement unit of length per se.
If a screen has more pixels per unit of length an image (when displayed as one image pixel per one screen pixel) would appear smaller than on a screen with lower resolution.
To make sure could you please post an image that is 500px x 500px (according to Image > Image Size) but seems to be too small to you?

  • APERTURE: Small preview images do not show the changes.

    excuse my lousy english...
    Problem with Aperture:
Small preview images do not show the changes.
I use Aperture 3 since August 2010. By November and 10 projects later it ran normally.
Since the project 11 are in the preview images shown (on the bottom bar in the shared representation) and in the pictures in the books no adjustments. I change for example a picture in b / w it remains in the small preview images bunt even though the great View Erbild s / w is. Even in the books then the famous picture colorful and even grobpixelig.
This is of course in the processing of multiple images per project huntert pretty annoying to have no overview of processed images ...:-(
I had a third installed for books and not as close a relationship.
Does anyone have similar experience or know someone how can I fix this?
    Thanks for reading!
    Lokoe

    Lokoe,
    To make sure we understand:
I change for example a picture in b / w it remains in the small preview images bunt even though the *great View Erbild s / w is*.
I am not sure what "s/w" is, but I think you mean:
"I change picture to black and white and the small preview images remain *in color* even though the *big picture in the Viewer* is in B/W."
Even in the books then the famous picture colorful and even grobpixelig.
"In the books the selected picture is colorful and even ???"
"Grobpixelig" -> "grosspixelig" -> "Looks like big pixels???" Not quite sure of the translation. It's been 15 years since I spoke Deutsch!
