Aperture 3 Media Browser Missing

I know there are other topics discussing this, but none of them have yielded a fix for me. Is there any news on an official fix for this problem? At the moment I cannot access any of my Aperture pics in iLife or mail etc....

I think the best help anyone can offer at this stage is to redirect you to the Aperture forums here:

Everyone there has some level of experience with that app.

  • Iweb doesn't show aperture media browser??

    Hi guys.
Can anyone explain why Iweb doesn't show aperture media browser??
I have latest version Iweb and latest version Aperture 2.0
    Thanks for help

Perhaps Aperture is not supported by iWeb.

  • CS5 Media browser - missing clips

    Hello all,
Tried to use media browser to import clips and it will only see SOME of them.
I transferred the entire AVCHD native root folder from each of my 3 cameras and placed them on my PC's media drive in folders labeled camera 1, 2 and 3 respectively.
Camera 1 media browser will only see files 99-154
    Camera 2 it sees nothing
Camera 3 it sees all of them
This is when viewing as "AVCHD" in the media browser window. If I select "View as: File Directory" it sees every file in each of the cameras folders. If I navigate through the folder structure in Windows Explorer all the clips/files are present.
My cameras had all been cleared of any other footage prior to the shoot, contained only footage was from the day of this particular shoot. Oh, and just to help with trouble shooting....FCP's log and transfer window sees everything just fine, so I am fairly certain that it is not file/folder corruption
    My own trouble shooting:
Connecting camera 1 to the PC directly via USB and CS5 media browser when Viewing as: AVCHD, sees files 99-154
Connected to the Mac, CS5 media browser when Viewing as: AVCHD sees files 99-154
Connected to the SAME Mac opened FCP's Log and Transfer window and it sees everything. Files 1-154 with thumbnails.
AM I MISSING SOMETHING?!?  Please help......thanks in advance to anyone who can help me with this.

Well I am just gonna keep posting my research on this matter here on this forum in hopes that SOMEBODY......ANYBODY....can help me to find out the reason for this issue.
I filmed a wedding Saturday with 4 Panny HDC-HS700 AVCHD cams.  Shot b-roll all morning, shot the ceremony, then the reception.
my camera 2 had 96 files on it.  all the files were short clips except for the ceremony which was about 27 min. long.  NONE of the files on this camera exceeded the 4gb file size limit of the camera's harddrive.  So there were no spanned files.
PPRO would not see ANY of these clips in the media browser when in "View as: AVCHD" but would see all of them in "View as: file directory"
    Now for the fun part.
I turned my camera on made 6 more short clips to put the total to 102 and then  recorded for an hour and ten mins. straight.  creating a spanned avchd file in with all the other 102 clips.
Plugged the camera into the PC directly, and found that PPRO now sees clips 97-103 in "View as: AVCHD" in the media browser....but the first 96 are not there still?!?!?!?!?!?
I have another instance where I filmed a pretty large job in Atlanta a few months back, so I pulled that footage in........it would again see all the files in "View as: file directory"  but this time in "View as: AVCHD" it would see files 1-20 then skip to files 121-259
I will add again that Final Cut Pro 7's Log and Transfer window has seen ALL of the above mentioned clips spanned and unspanned without issue whatsoever.
PLEASE HELP.....starting to lose my mind here.
I HOPE that I am doing something wrong....so that the fix will be easy.

  • Keynote 6.0 no photos in media browser

Recently upgraded everything to current. Keynote 6 media browser missing all photos from Aperture or iPhoto. Music and movies seem to show up fine.
I have tried deleting com.Apple.iPhoto.plist to no avail.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks
    Reid

The media browser in Pages '09 is now inoperable after the 10.10.3 update with Photos. There is an iLifeMediaBrowser plugin that Pages 09 used, that was stepped on by the Photos update, and now Pages '09 fails to find a compatible version of the preceding plugin, and fails to show any media content.
Although the Photos application automatically transferred your iPhoto/Aperture libaries, it does not mean that these applications were removed, or cannot be run alongside Pages '09. I just launched iPhoto, and dragged/dropped a photo onto Pages '09 without issue. Copy/paste is supported too. Pages '09 also supports drag/drop of images from the Finder, or from its Insert > Choose… menu item.

  • Some Aperture photos and projects missing from iLife Media Browser

Good evening - having a little bit of trouble getting Aperture to work smoothly with my iLife media browser (i.e., inserting photos into Mail, Pages, Keynote, etc).
I currently have 5699 photos and 131 projects in Aperture. But the iLife Media Browser only shows me 5131 photos and 130 projects; when clicking on individual projects in the browser, anywhere from 3 to 70 photos per project are missing. Tried repairing permissions, repairing the database, and rebuilding the database - this improved the issue, but didn't completely resolve it as 5679 photos now show in the Media Browser, and 20 remain missing. Also tried deleting, and generating previews for all my photos in the library. No change.
My library is mostly referenced, with a few photos managed.
Obviously in the grand scheme of things 20 photos missing in the Media Browser not that big a deal. But wanting to get to the root cause though because without solving this issue, I'm concerned about a larger underlying problem that may only get worse as my library grows.
Has anyone had, or resolved a problem similar to this? And can anyone offer any additional suggestions? Are there any specific files that feed the iLife Media Browser that I can delete and rebuild that may solve this issue?
    thanks,
    Mark

I think I've ironed this out. Several intertwined issues. I took a moment to type out my notes; hopefully it helps you guys solve this quickly if you get a call from someone else on this down the line.
[1] original problem of several hundred items missing in Media Browser: probably an issue of previews not being built. Mostly fixed when I regenerated previews for my library, but repairing permissions and repairing the database may have helped too.
[2] Residual problem of 20 items still missing (5698 items displayed in Aperture when selecting Inspector > Library > Photos; 5677 items displayed in Mail Photo Browser). My issue wasn't as much with 20 missing items in a browser as it was with trying to understand the root cause and whether I had an underlying Aperture, Aperture Library, or OS problem that would bite me later. Turns out several things were causing this problem:
[2a] In Aperture, when you select Inspector > Library > Photos , all your content is displayed: photos, videos, and any audio clips you may have imported (e.g., a recorded audio clip on your camera narrating shoot, location, client, exposure value etc). So even though you've selected "Photos", your "xxx items displayed" count on the bottom of the screen reflects all your imported content. This is not the case in the Media Browser - of which there are two variants in Mac OS:
[2a.1] Mail has a Photo Browser, which behaves much like a "Media Browser Lite: the title bar says "Photo Browser", it only accesses your Aperture and iPhoto Libraries, and only shows photos and video.
[2a.2] iWork applications have a more comprehensive Media Browser, where you can select between Audio, Photos, and Movies. If you select Audio the iWork Media Browser will show any audio files present in your Aperture or iTunes library. If you select Movies, the iWork Media Browser will show any movie clips present in your Aperture or iMovie libraries. Photos behaves the same way as "Photo Browser" in Mail, showing any photos present in your Aperture (or iPhoto if installed) libraries.
Turns out I had three audio clips in my Aperture library. When selecting "Photos" in either the Mail or iWork browsers, the total item count will only show photos and videos - no audio clips. So now 17 missing items remain.
[2b] Stacks - one project contained nine photos grouped into a stack. Only the key photo of a stack is previewed/shown in Media Browser. So a stack of nine photos will only show as one in the browser - unstacking the photo will allow them all to appear. So now nine missing items.
[2c] Seven photographs somehow had broken links to their referenced masters, and needed to be reconnected. Down to two missing items.
[2d] One photo simply wouldn't cooperate - no matter how many times I regenerated the preview, or deleted the preview and then regenerated it, nothing worked. I deleted it from the library and reimported it. One missing item remains.
[2e] Final missing item was a photograph I rejected. Makes sense; as media browser does not display rejects.
Problem solved!! Hopefully this might be of help to somebody in the future.
    cheers,
    Mark

  • Media browser doesn't show Aperture but shows long-uninstalled iPhoto?!?

    hi,
Now that 3.0.1 seems to have solved most of my problems I can finally concentrate on the details.
My media browser in iLife, iWork and mail.app gives me a choice between photos from Photo Booth and iPhoto. The weird thing is, when I select iPhoto it tells me that iPhoto 5 or higher should be installed, which it isn't as I haven't used iPhoto for years (and never on this computer). And, more importantly, Aperture is missing.
I have already deleted the iApps plist, restarted a couple of times, repaired permissions a quarter of a million times in the last few days, and none of it helped.
I know this is an issue that has popped up more often in this forum and for which a definite solution hasn't yet been found, but I'm hoping the iPhoto part may shine a new light on it allowing somebody smarter than I to solve this.
Thanks in advance. Oh, and thanks to the entire forum for what they did in the last few days. So many great tips and solutions were given by so many people.

    This worked:
I created a new library by selecting >file, >>switch to library, >>>other, selected New Library. Then Quit Aperture (have to do this because it did not take until I quit). Restarted Aperture and switched back to my normal library.
Access to my Aperture library in the Media Browser came back right away. Desktop Background also returned. I had to restart the Mac to get the Screen Saver to come back.

  • Can't access Aperture 3 previews in iLife Media Browser

I know this has been posted before but I don't think I've seen a resolution yet ....
Since migrating all of my data etc from my MacBook to new iMac I can't see the Aperture previews in the Media Browser. I've tried reinstalling Aperture and previews are set to be shared with iLife (in Preferences).
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance.
    Jon

Thanks for this - it didn't work, but something else did!!
Turns out there's actually a Knowledge Base answer on a similar matter (discovered after calling Apple Support). Just open Aperture from the dock whilst holding Option + CMD and then select to Repair the library - middle option. Worked straight away!
    Thank you

  • RAID is missing in Media Browser

RAID is missing from the Media Browser. I can see the RAID icon (AM VIDEO) in the bin but can see it in the file directory. Double clicking on the icon doesn't open the RAID. My work around is to place an alias of a directory needed from the RAID on the desktop.
RAID is an OWC Mercury Rack Pro and it's visible and fully functional in the finder. Problem occurs in CC and CC14
    Mac Pro 5,1, 10.9.3

I've just had it happen too. A brand new OWC RAID 1 drive (less than a week old) has suddenly, under Pr 2014, lost the ability to see this drive.  When it arrived I formatted it with Apple's Disk Utility. Adobe Premiere has been working fine until this version. Now Premiere cannot see this drive in media browser, while the Finder can, and DU reports no problems, and neither does Disk Warrier. The drive seems fine. But Adobe can't see it.
Given the variety of people discussing this, here and on other boards, I'm thinking that there is a bug with Media Browser. I now have to *reformat* my drive, which means hours of moving files off to another drive and back on. If this is a bug, we need to know what's happening! I will be *very* unwilling to upgrade to the next version of Adobe software given this situation!

  • IMovie '11, what steps am I missing, when I go to SHARE, IDVD is grey and not activated, only ITUNES and MEDIA BROWSER? I want to burn a DVD.

iMovie '11, what steps am I missing, when I go to SHARE, IDVD is grey and not activated, only ITUNES and MEDIA BROWSER? I want to burn a DVD.

Share your movie to the Media Browser. Then, in iDVD, drag your movie in from the Media Browser at the bottom right.
THe Share to iDVD option is only activated if your source material is DV or AVCHD.

  • Aperture library does not update in iLife media browser

I had the following problem for over a YEAR now. The *photo browser* does not have current Aperture information available. I looked everywhere for a solution, including this forum and the support database. The proposed solutions were as follows:
    1. Turn on iLife sharing and auto-preview creation in Preferences - DUH!
    2. Turn off iLife sharing, restart Aperture, then turn it back on - DOES NOT WORK
    3. Hold down Command-Option when starting Aperture and rebuild library - DOES NOT WORK
    4. Trash ApertureData.xml file - DOES NOT WORK
    5. Trash ApertureData.xml as well as Aperture.aplib folder - DOES NOT WORK
I'm sure there were a few more things I tried. I thought I'd ask a "genius" at the Apple store. I realized then (again) that that moniker is gravely misplaced.
The crux of the problem is that the ApertureData.xml is not kept up-to-date by Aperture. That XML file is used throughout the Mac to provide photo browser access and insertion of preview files into Mail, iLife, iWork and other supported programs. Why that file stopped updating is a mystery to me. Some people suggest it has to do with the upgrade from 1.5 to 2.
For all those super-frustrated Aperture users who have had the same issue and cannot fix it using any of the above methods, here's ultimately what I had to do to fix this.
    1. Export every one of your projects
    2. Create a new Aperture library
    3. Import all projects into the new library
The only items that do not transfer are the ones situated at the root level of the library. Those will have to be recreated manually. Since I only had a few smart folders there, it did not affect me gravely. The keyword list should also be created when you create the new library. If not, look for Keywords.plist in the old Aperture.aplib folder.
I spent literally WEEKS looking for this solution, it is nowhere to be found. I cannot be the only one running into that problem. I'd be curious to know if there are others out there with the same problem.
    Thanks!

Wow, this is not encouraging. I have a slightly different version of this problem. I had my Aperture library showing up (and updating as I expanded it) in the Media Browser, and all was well until I bought a new Mac and transferred everything over from the old one. For whatever reason, not everything makes it over. Now, on the new Mac, my Media Browser only shows images from Photo Booth--not even iPhoto! I feel your pain and share your ire.
Someone mentioned September (not coming soon enough). Is there speculation that Aperture will be updated (finally!) when Snow Leopard releases?

  • Most aperture photos not showing in media browser

I have Aperture 1.5 and I can view all of my albums from the media browser, but when I click on an album, most of the thumbnails are exclamation points and they wont drag into any pages documents. Some photos in the albums show up and they go into my documents just fine.
I have gone into aperture and selected ALL 13,508 photos and forced thumbnail regeneration, but I am still having the same problem.

  • Some Aperture stills not appearing in iMovie 11 Media Browser

    Hello all,
I have been importing images into Aperture for a while now and just realized that iMovie (09 and 11) are not reading some of the stills I have stored in it. I have made sure that all my images are stored in an Aperture managed library and not as reference files. When I start up iMovie it takes a while and scans for new videos but I'm concerned with the stills that are not appearing. I can see the project and album titles appearing in the Media Browser but iMovie states that there are no files inside. I've also told Aperture to always share previews with iLife and iWork. Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance!

    Welcome to the forums.
The fact that you are able to see the Ap library and the project suggests that there maybe no previews available for that project.
At the top of the Library tab is a little cog, within here is an option for previews, also in the Ap preferences is another option for creating previews, check that these are set correctly.

  • Aperture 1.5.3 and iWeb - poor image quality and shuffled Media browser

    Hi, I have two questions:
    1. I used to use iPhoto 6 together with iWeb 1.1.2, but have since upgraded to Aperture. My Aperture library previews show up nicely in iWeb's media browser, but the quality of the thumbs on the photopage I create, and fullsize images in iWeb's slideshow look really bad and pixelated compared to when I used the exact same images from my iPhoto 6 Library. How can this be? I have set the preview size in Aperture to 1280 x 1280 and quality to 5. Does that have something to do with the poor quality?
    2. The Media browser in iWeb completely ignores the dates on the images from the Aperture library, resulting in the images being shuffled completely, making it hard to find the images I want to use. How can that be? Why doesn't it work like when I used iWeb with my iPhoto library?

  • Aperture previews not showing up in media browser (and iweb)

some of my images in aperture projects do not show up in iweb or in the media browser at all....the projects are listed and most other project show all images, but some don't....
i tried several things including consistency check and rebuilding the entire library....nothing works....
this is very annoying...one of the few reasons (but a major one for me) to stick with aperture over LR is the system wide integration....but it has to work....

thanks for that info....i actually managed to fix it by rebuilding my previews.....but there was no reason at all for the previews not to show up....and it actually took 2 times to rebuild them all....some still did not show up after the first run....
i really hope we will see an upgrade soon....some things just have to be smoothed out....and a few added....

  • Aperture Referenced Images and IWeb Media browser

I'm new to Aperture, sorry if this is a stupid question, and have a Windows server full of photos which I am referencing into Aperture (rather than copying everything over)...
When I switch to IWeb and use the media browser, it seems that only files which are in the Aperture library , NOT Referenced files, show up. None of the referenced files show.
My expectation is that the Media Browser would also show the referenced photos, just as Aperture does, and then would copy the ones I choose into my IWeb project....It seems this is not the case.
Am I doing something wrong? Is this expected behavior?
Is there a better way to do this?
    Thank you!!

    Welcome.
Note the media browser only shows files that have previews. So you need to generate previews (which are JPEGs) for your master files. You have numerous options as to size and quality of the generated previews, but this is something you need to do for this to work.
The previews will be stored in the library itself. The masters for which the previews are generated can be either managed (i.e. in the library) or referenced (outside the library).
