Aperture 3 not exporting

Using Aperture 3 on IMAC running OS 10.6.4. I created a slide show with music which plays fine on computer. My problem is exporting the slideshow. I use the pop-up menu "Export for" and tried many different formats. Also, the "save in ITunes" box check is not available.
The export dialog comes up but nothing is exported. What's going on?

I'm replying to myself since nobody answered my question. I looked through other posts and found one which referenced the "excrutiatingly" slow speed of Aperture 3 Export. Keeping that in mind, I set the export and went about my daily tasks. Well, some 2 1/2 hours later with no other tasks being performed by the computer, the export of a 22 minute presentation of music is maybe 1/3 complete and I expect that it will take the better part of today for total export.
This is NUTZ!!!!

  • Aperture not exporting changes made to photo

I am just getting into Aperture and have discovered this problem. When exporting a RAW photo to my desktop as a JPEG not all of the editing is coming through. It looks like everything but the 'sharpen' changes are appearing in the JPEG version.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

I like how the header says the question is answered. Almost cheerfully even. The question about how Aperture does not export changes has been answered.Yay!
I was delighted because in my hands Aperture DOES NOT EXPORT changes. Pictures I sharpened do not get exported that way. I can take a screen shot of the sharpened picture in Aperture, and the screen shot viewed in preview captures the sharpness. Any thing exported out of Aperture comes out EXACTLY as it went in.
And I am not alone. There are all kinds of posted solutions. I've read a lot of lies and mumbo jumbo about why it is. The truth is my version of Aperture does not EXPORT changes. So what is the answer???
I think the correct answer is the one on the page with the yellow star that indicates that the problem is a major flaw in the program and that Apple should FIX IT.
So.... then...when is that going to happen? Funny how they are dragging their feet on this. They won't even address it solidly... they just start blog pages, and forums, and stall, and stall, and stall.

  • Aperture not exporting metadata when exporting masters

It says here (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302943) that "by Design" Apple doesn't allow you to embed the metadata into an exported master file. Any idea why this is 'by design'? It doesn't make sense.
Their 'work around' is to double your work by exporting masters (with no metadata) and then exporting versions (say, as JPEGs with metadata) and keep both files together.
I am trying to archive copies of Masters along with their metadata and want to avoid duplicating work that is grossly inefficient.

Well, DNG export could really be the option for
people who require raw + added metadata in one file.
There's another thing that interested me _soooo_
much in your reply% it's about connection between raw
files and editorial. I don't shoot for magazines yet
(though I will be soon enough ))) ) but I'm surprised
clients require raw. Or it is your preferrable way of
    giving your work out?
As a PE, I require RAW files, as 9.9 times out of 10 my color house is going to be better than the photographer at preparing the image for print. This is the same for most of the higher quality publications out there.

  • Core IPTC in Aperture 3.2.3 on OS 10.6.8 are not Exporting

Core IPTC Metadata in Aperture is not exporting when I email my files.   I have Aperture 3.2.3 on OS 10.6.8.  Thanks.

Look via "Aperture➞Preferences➞Export➞Email Photo Export Preset" to see which Export Preset you are using.
Look up that Export Preset via "Aperture➞Presets➞Image Export".  Is "Include Metadata" checked?

  • Aperture 3.6 not exporting jpg versions at 300dpi despite preset selected

Hi, Aperture 3.6 is not exporting jpg versions (of Nikon RAW) files at 300dpi despite 300dpi being selected in the preset.
Jpgs are being exported at 72dpi although Tiffs are being exported correctly.
I'm guessing it's a recurrence of the previous Aperture bug but while we wait for a fix, does anyone have a solution please?
I'm currently exporting Tiffs and then using a Photoshop batch action to save as jpgs - not a great workflow!
    TIA

  • Recent Aperture Update Not Exporting IPTC Info?

Has anyone else noticed that when exporting an image from the most recent update of Aperture, the exported image/jpeg no longer contains any of your IPTC Metadata? Facebook sees none of the captions nor does WordPress. These two issues alerted me to check info etc. from within Preiew and nothing is showing up. Nada, zilch, zero. No copyright info. no photog info, nothing. Maybe I'm doing something wrong but can others check for Metadata IPTC info on export and report back? Thanks.

Problem partially solved but still wondering about the PNG issue.
    Jim,
PNG is a great lossless image format, but afaik, there is no standard how to embed metadata in png files.

  • Image Artifacts with Aperture, not ACR or Capture One?

I generally use Capture One, but for the first time I’m using Aperture to process a series of photos from a just-completed trip to northern Arizona/southern Utah. I’ve been very impressed with Aperture’s workflow, and would very much like to make Aperture my primary tool for managing my photos.
However, tonight I discovered some very unsettling artifacts in the prints that I made in Photoshop using files that Aperture converted from RAW. Upon closer inspection, the artifacts also appear in Aperture, when I zoom in. But interestingly, neither Capture One nor Adobe Camera Raw shows these artifacts to nearly the same degree. Scroll down for examples of the artifact as seen in Aperture, Adobe Camera Raw, Capture One, and Photoshop.
For completeness, here are the specifics of my configuration:
    Canon 1Ds RAW images
    PowerMac G5 dual 2.5 GHz
    OSX 10.4.7
    Aperture 1.1.2
    Photoshop CS
    Capture One Pro 3.7.4
Here is the photo in which I first discovered the artifacts, which are visible in the full-sized image and on the print, but not in this small jpeg:
The artifacts I’m referring to are regularly-spaced train track-looking things in certain sections of the sandstone. The issue can be seen on 100% crops taken from the left side, about 1/3 of the way down from the top. Here is the area as it appears in Aperture using View > Zoom to actual size:
And here are the Aperture adjustments that I made:
Okay, I used Open With External Editor, to load the image into Photoshop – at its original size. Here is the same area, viewed at 100%, and the artifacts are plainly visible:
Notice that the artifacts appear in much the same way they did in Aperture. Just as a test, I used Aperture to “Export” the image as a 16-bit TIFF format, and then opened in Photoshop. Same artifacts as before:
For comparison I opened the same RAW file in Capture One. The artifacts are barely discernable! :
And here are the Capture One settings I used:
And here is the Capture One conversion as it appears in Photoshop, viewed at 100%. Again, the artifacts are essentially absent:
The image dimensions are almost exactly (but not quite) the same as the image that Aperture converted.
And, although it’s not part of my usual workflow, I converted the image using Adobe Camera Raw. The results show that, like Capture One, ACR doesn’t exhibit these artifacts (although it does show a bit more chromatic aberration):
Just to be clear, these artifacts ARE visible in my 16 x 24” print.
It’s a bit discouraging that, on my first serious attempt at using Aperture, I discovered these artifacts. It may be that this is a rare event with Aperture – or maybe not.
Has anyone else seen this sort of thing? Are there other discussions of the issue? And last but not least, can anyone suggest a way that I might avoid this in the future?
    Thanks!

    G5 Dual 2.5 GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Here is another example of this effect, but with a different type of subject matter: a ball. The original is a raw file from a Canon 350D/Digital Rebel.
In Aperture's Zoom mode there is a pattern on the ball that looks like Maze Craze:
The pattern is maintained to a lesser degree as the image is sized down:
    Exported as Original Size png:
    Exported as Half Size png:
Now, as pointed out in the earlier post, the real problem is that other apps do not have this problem. The following is from ACR:
Aside from the pattern, Aperture does look better, but the pattern is nasty and almost makes the image unusable.

  • IPhoto not exporting description for Canon Powershot

iPhoto is not exporting descriptions for photos taken by my Canon Powershot SX110 IS.
I use the camera to take a picture, import the photo, add a description and use File->Export, choosing JPEG, check box for Title and Keywords, check box for Locations.   Perform export and view photo in Preview, view exif using Tools->Inspector.  All pertinent exif data is there except description, including keywords and location. Specifically looking at IPTC and TIFF data fields.
However, if I export Photos from my wife's camera (a Canon SLR model) or a friend's Canon EOS model, then the descriptions do get exported.   Any ideas or solutions on how to export the description for the Canon Powershot?

I can confirm that. I just imported it to iPhoto and no, I can't see the caption there either. But, and this is odd, there are several blank spaces there - for instance, in the shot below I just typed 'this is a test' where the cursor would let me.
So you can see there is some element of recognition that there is *something* there, which is weird. I tried copying and pasting that out but there are only spaces and no actual text that I can find. This is also repeated with Aperture.
There is some incompatibility between that camera and the Quicktime substructure on the Mac... I've simply never seen anything like this before.

  • Aperture is exporting large file size e.g. original image is 18.2MB and the exported version (TFF 16 Bit) is 47.9MB, any ideas please

Aperture is exporting large file size e.g. original image is 18.2MB and the exported version (TFF 16 Bit) is 47.9MB, any ideas please

Raws, even if not compressed, Sould be smaller than a 24-bit Tiff, since they have only one bitplane. My T3i shoots 14 bit 18MP raws and has a raw file size of 24.5 MB*. An uncompressed Tiff should have a size of 18 MP x 3 bytes per pixel or 54 MB.
*There must be some lossless compression going on since 18 MP times 1.75 bytes per pixel is 31.5MB for uncompressed raw.

  • RAW to Jpeg quality looks fine in Aperture not so good on Web page

I am using the latest version of Aperture with the Retina display. The Raw images look tremendous, after I resize the image and save it to jpeg the image still looks good. When I upload to a web page the image looks horrible. There is a lot of noise and the image over all looks blurred. I open it in Aperture and it looks fine. What is the issue? I have tried the different settings when saving the image and nothing works. I have also saved the image in a tif format and still the same issue. Looks great in aperture not so great on the web. Please help if possible.

Your site is likely re-sampling your file, perhaps because it is too large.  Ask the Webmaster what size and quality to make the JPGs, and export to that.  There may also be a browser issue.
If you provide some details re: exactly how your are exporting, which site you are using, how the JPG is used, etc., someone here may be able to provide additional guidance -- but this seems to be a Web question, as Aperture -- from what you say -- is working well for you.

  • Aperture 3 exporting problems

Seems that every time I try to export a file from Aperture 3, it hangs for a long time before it performs any exports - it is very slow. In Aperture 2, exporting a file that was 900x600 @ 72 dpi was instant, in Aperture 3 the same file takes 15 minutes - 4 files = 1 hour.
    Anyone know how to fix?

    Hi Photo*Gizmo;
You stated; "I see that this issue has not been answered by Apple in over a month, so either they don't care or they are overwhelmed by bugs."
Besides not responding to this forum, Apple doesn't even read this forum. It is a user to user forum. If you really want Apple to be aware of a problem you should use the feedback site instead of posting here.

  • 3.4RC not exporting Exif data in jpegs?

I just checked and there seems to be no Exif data in my exported jpegs, even though Minimize Metadata is not checked. Anybody else experiencing this? DId I miss some new setting or way of specifying this? Win 7 64-bit, 64-bit LR.

In terms of the XMP standard, the EXIF schema properties have been omitted from the LR 3.4RC version of the image.  For example, the 3.3 version has the property XMP:DateTimeOriginal, while the 3.4RC version does not.  See below for all differences in the metadata.
I think this may be a bug. The XMP standard was designed to encapsulate legacy metadata such as EXIF, and it was intended that the XMP metadata contain duplicates of the EXIF properties.  Unlike the EXIF standard, XMP allows multi-byte characters and time zones, so not exporting the XMP EXIF properties means that it won't be possible to export multi-byte characters and time zones.

  • Which functions and features in Numbers are NOT exported correctly to Excel?

I wish to know EXACTLY which functions I use in a Numbers sheet WILL FAIL to export correctly to an Excel or Neoffice spreadsheet.
For instance, I created a Numbers spreadsheet using prolific use of the IFERROR function. However, when I EXPORT to XLS, all the cells that used the IFERROR function were replaced by the literal value of the cell. My IFERROR formulae were not EXPORTED as I had expected.
I note that some formulae were converted correctly in my EXPORTED spreadsheet: eg MAX, MIN, AVERAGE.
I understand that IFERROR was a function introduced recently to Excel, ie in the 2007 version. Consequently, I suspect that Numbers exports to a pre-2007 version of Excel. If so, which version?
I have found this list that shows which functions are compatable amongst various versions of Excel:
    Excel Functions: Compatibility Reference (2010, 2007 & 2003). (n.d.). Retrieved from https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AsHau4_IeCfwdG45c0VhcjBBUGNreVo2ZzN NRU1BT0E#gid=0
This list shows that, for instance, IFERROR exisits inb both Excel 2007 and Numbers-09. So why is IFERROR not exported?
Curmi, J. (n.d.). Summary of function in excel and numbers-09. Retrieved from http://curmi.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/01/functions-in-excel-and-numbers- 09.pdf
Some examples of my use of ISERROR in Numbers are as follows:
    =IFERROR(RANK(C47,$C47:$J47,1),"")
    =IFERROR(MEDIAN(C51:C58),"")
    =IFERROR($C32-C88+1,"")
I use the above function to  carry out the calculation ONLY IF  a cell is non-blank and contains a number.
    More questions
What are the rules that Numbers uses to convert to Excel?
Is Numbers converting to the 2003 version of Excel? ... or an earlier version? ... which version?
Why desn't Numbers advise me there were conversion errors or simplifications made?
eg: "Cell A33 Function IFERROR was exported to the cell value for Excel"
Is there a preference that I can select which version of Excel that Numbers will export to?
In the meantime, I must abandon Numbers and use NeoOffice!

    Thanks,
I applied your suggested ISERROR transformation to examples such as:
    =IFERROR(RANK(C47,$C47:$J47,1),"")
    =IFERROR(MEDIAN(C51:C58),"")
    =IFERROR($C32-C88+1,"")
However, a caution for young players....
Certainly, the ISERROR function exports to .xls. However, it behaves differently in NeoOffice.
Items 1 and 2 function identically in the case of say, ranking a row in which some cells are blanks.
Item 3, when translated using ISERROR to =IF(ISERROR(C32-C88+1),"", C32-C88+1), results in "" (ie error is raised) in Numbers but yields figure 0 in NeoOffice when there is a blank in either of the cells.
I  recall from programming school in the mid-1970s that using GOTO statements and On Error branch statements were not admissible as routine programming steps. In fact, we received an automatic fail grade if we used a GOTO or GOTO like construction. So, I have found a more programmatically elegant way to solve my problem: eg:
    =IF(C88="","",C32-C88+1)
Curiously, earlier I found/suspect this does not work equivalently in Numbers and NeoOffice:
    =IF(ISBLANK(C88),"",C32-C88+1)
When you try using ISBLANK you always get an intuitively unexpected result because ISBLANK ONLY gives TRUE when there is absolutely nothing in a cell. A Formula reference in the cell, even if the function result yields "", gives FALSE... because, according to the definition of ISBLANK the cell contains a formula.
As I tell my students, ALWAYS lookup the HELP on any function you use. ALWAYS test the function to see how it performs!.... and lesson 3: Always test your spreadsheet on different systems.... then hope!
