Aperture 3 not responding.

After this one update, I forgot the exact name of the update, the one about the RAM usage of PRO applications; Aperture just suddenly stops responding and I can't do anything with my libraries. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling but the same thing happens. I can open Aperture, can have a peek at all my projects, albums and folders, but then the beach ball of death arrives and there's nothing that I can do.
Anyone who knows a way around this?

I forgot that would do it too. I trashed the whole app in a rush - with appcleaner - and downloaded it again.
But deleting the plist file should be doing it for most people. (how could I not think about that)
On second thought, I experience still the same like before.

  • Repairing Library causes Aperture NOT RESPONDING

Upon the recent "update" from Apple concerning Aperture 3.4:
I installed the update on 9/20.
When I open my massive 1.16 TB Aperture library, I get this message:

    And so on.
So, I deleted Aperture from hard drive
    Re-Install Aperture 3.0 from cd/dvd
Open Aperture...with BRAND new library.  Fine.  Except it is not MY library.
    Close Aperture.
    Open Massive Aperture Library
    Get this message:
    Select Quit
    Close Aperture
    Update Aperture to 3.4
    Open Aperture with massive library

Of course I send the Report to Apple.  Every time.
And so on and on and on and on.  For THREE DAYS already.
My Mac Pro has been a brick and unusable since it is hogging the cpu with this Aperture update.

  • Aperture not responding after loading

The program will load- I get to the initial screen- but will not respond after I pick an operation. I tried "time machine" and restored from "backup". Neither one worked. I can access my pictures; I just cannot get the program to operate.
Aperture is showing up top, next to the "apple" but that is all. I then get the "beach ball". I have to force close to get it to stop.
The only thing I remember doing since I used it last was to empty the trash to free up some space.
    Any suggestions?

Try temporary rename/move aperature library to check is problem in the particular library or in aperture installation. If AP will start, then you will need to repair/rebuild library; otherwise you will need to re-install AP. Btw, as far as I remember Apple strongly recommend do not use Time Machine with AP.

  • Aperture (not responding)

    Hello,
I have been having difficulties with Aperture for several months.  It simply does not respond.  I get this message
several times a day.  If I wait long enough it will come back to normal, and other times I have to force quit and
start over.  I am using an imac 27 inch with a 2.93 processor and 4GB of Ram .  I am running on OS 10.6.8 and Aperture is version 3.2.1
I would appreciate any help, this is getting beyond irritating.  I never had this amount of problems with iphoto.
    Thank you for your help,
    Rick

Surprised you have so much space given the fact that you have 20 Aperture libraries on the drive.
What are you doing in Aperture when the stalls happen? Does it happen in all libraries?
Given that the disk space looks ok then follow Erine's advice and have Activity Monitor running. Pay particular attention to the page out/swap used section. It's not so much the total numbers shown as the change in the numbers.
So boot you machine, open Activity Monitor, note the numbers for swap/page outs, should be zero after a boot.
Now run your system as you normally do, occasionally noting the numbers. If and when Aperture stalls take a look and see if there is a jump in either of the numbers.
    regards

  • Aperture not responding on startup

I imported some photos last night, but this morning when I get ready to work on them, I open up Aperture, and the spinning thing is all it does.
I can't do anything. I've restarted the app and my computer. Does that mean I am going to have to reinstall the program and lose all my photos? I have my originals saved, but not the fixed ones.
And what is the Aperture backup thing I saw mentioned?
Please help as soon as you can.

Have you tried clearing the app preferences?
    To clear the app preference,
CS6: Hold Cmd+Alt+Shift (Mac)/Ctrl+Alt+Shift (Win) and launch AME.
CS7: Hold Shift and launch AME.
If this doesn't work, you may also want to try clearing the media cache.
    To clear the media cache,
From Media Encoder menu, open the Preferences dialog.  (Edit menu > Preferences for Windows).  Then, under the "Media" pane, click "Clean".

  • Aperture library on external drive - Aperture not responding

as my laptop filled up - I created an external Aperture library on an external drive - with a matching drive used as a vault - worked fine - then I was deleting images from the laptop library that were also in the library on the external drive and when I re-connected the external library drive Aperture would be unable to start, had to force quit - I can not open the library on the external drive in Aperture - I can open the library on the laptop - but I need the images in the external drive - the vault was updated 6 days ago -
I am in the process of restoring the library from the vault - my question -
can anything be done to open the current library on the external drive? - any kind of work around?

Well, yes and no. When my laptop drive got full, I copied the laptop library to the external 500gb drive and gave it a different name. Then I proceeded to use it as the primary library as I shot 3 weddings. So, yes, I have 2 separate libraries, the one on my laptop and the one on my external drive(s), both have masters (no referenced files), the external drive has everything that the laptop has - the external drive has probably 100 gigs more than the laptop (the laptop has about 85 gigs of files) - I also have a second matching 500gb external drive that backs up the first external drive which is where the vault for the first 500gb drive is located.
I just restored the library from the vault (from December 1) to create yet another new library on another totally spare drive just to see if it would work - that was successful now it is recovering the 41 projects
that were in the vault - it looks to be running pretty smoothly - although the process has so far taken several hours. Recall, however, that this vault backup is 6 days old. The most current library still will not load. This new restored library opens fine. So, there is something corrupted (a bad image perhaps?) in the most current 500gb library that is hanging Aperture.
I still have the original cards that I shot in the past 6 days (about 20 gigs) which were not in the vault, but I did a lot of work with those files and would like to recover the projects from the library
that can't currently open. I have a desktop at my studio and I am thinking I will try opening the problem library (on the 500gb external) there and see what happens.
This whole thing started when I figured I could clear some files from the laptop that were both on the laptop and the external drive. I have done this before to create more working space on my laptop.
Have I clearly answered your questions? - thank you for your P.S. - I didn't know I could get the .approject files out - I may try that -

  • Assembing Book failure, Aperture not responding

I've made a book, my first, and want to send it to Apple for purchase. It's 44 pages, softcover of edited RAW files. I've attempted to send it multiple times (5 or 6) and the program gets stuck while "Assembing Book, this may take several minutes" message is up. I've tried this before going to bed and let the computer run all night, but it still fails. After a few hours, I must "force quit" to end the misery.
I've deleted my .plist file which was suggested here, but that made no difference. I've rebuilt my library without a difference. Now I'm stumped and need help. Any ideas.
    I'm using Aperture 2.1.2
    Thanks,

  • Trying to move aperture library from USB external drive to FW 800 external drive.i can see the projects but no thumbnails. Error application not responding. Verified permissions before started. It's been 3hours. Recommendations please

I have consolidated iPhoto into aperture 3.2.2  and now have both aperture and iPhoto put consolidated library on 2.0 USB external drive. Have been removing duplicate photos from 23,000 down to 15,000. Problem in trying to close aperture and now tried to move library from 2.0 USB to 800FW and can see projects but no thumbnails. Aperture error now reads not responding. Can I repair library on 2.0 at this point?

    Sharon,
did you do anything else besides copying your library to a fire wire drive after your last post                                                                            Aperture not responding                     ?
Since that library probalbly already needed fixing, I'd recommend to force quit Aperture and use the "First Aid" to repair your Library.

  • Aperture tools not responding

All of a sudden my tool (ie stamp tool, cropping tool, etc) are not responding.
    Help!

I should have specified that I had aperture, not aperture 2, so sadly the "p" key did not work

  • Aperture 2 not responding

Aperture 2 keeps reporting that it is not responding. This usually happens after it has been running for a while and I am making adjustments other than the most basic. The CPU is maxing out and fans start to run full blast and the spinning ball last as much as 20 seconds.
If say I grab the monochrome red slider and slide backwards and forwards it will move smoothly and the screen will update quickly and all is well. However things go wrong if I move the slider slightly, let go and then move again and maybe once more, the whole not responding, fans and spinning ball start off.
I have generate previews turned off. I cannot believe a 15" Intel MBP 2.16, 3G RAM is not good enough to run this. There must be a problem with Aperture. All other programs run perfectly, Lightroom, CS3 etc. Any ideas please.
    http://idisk.mac.com/ianrmatthews-Public?view=web

Yes this is happening to me on both my Mac's. I'm running an MBP C2D and an iMac 2.16 GHz...It's depressing because I love Aperture's workflow; but I don't love the terrible system slow-downs. Yesterday I got the spinning beachball and full fans for 30 minutes (I left my MBP on my desk and went out on a quick errand, hoping that it would have finished whatever it was doing). The system locked up completely after I got back (I think it's bitter-sweet that in two years, the only application that has ever caused my apple computer to completely lock-up...is an apple software product). I
'd hoped that with 2.0 they would have improved the performance problems, but it looks like Aperture is still an overly resource-intensive dog. Until the developpers can reign in the performance issues and "truly" bring this bad boy up to speed, I'm going to have to stick to Lightroom—which ***** because Adobe's outrageous prices p!$$ me off

  • AMD A6-5400k - CPU1: Not Responding

    Hi fellas,
I got a new CPU for my maschine, which runs on ARCH-x86_64 Kernel 3.6.10. So far everything went fine but one thing:
At boot, only of the two cores is recognized. This is only the case in Arch, both BIOS and Windows show both Cores. I rebuilt my initramfs and reinstalled linux, but none helped.
I realize, there are several topics around the www and this board, but none of them helped me in my case.
I tried some things, like booting the LTS-Kernel.
Any ideas how I can solve this issue?
I got the outputs of dmesg (system boot):
I think the relevant Lines are around 0.17000.

  • How do you shut down a computer safely when Finder is not responding?

I've been having some problem with my Mac OS X lately where Aperture has been "not responding". Stupidly, I used forced shutdown of that program until I learned how bad this is.  So today I'm working on my mac (trying to learn what's wrong with Aperture) and the  beachball for Finder starts spinning and the program is not responding. How do I restart or shut down without damaging anything? I could "force quit" but don't know if this is bad for Finder, as it is bad for Aperture.  Help!

    Hi suzyfromks,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
If a single application is unresponsive, you don't have any other option but to Force Quit.
Then I would suggest quitting your other open applications normally, and starting the computer in Safe Mode as explained in this article.
Mac OS X: How to troubleshoot a software issue
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1199
Regarding Aperture, I would suggest making sure you have a Time Machine backup of your computer, and follow these troubleshooting steps:

I hope this information helps ....

  • My Thunderbird email is not responding. I have been unable to open it.

I tried rebooting my PC several times, but the result is the same. None of my mailboxes or address book can be utilized. The page is blank and says that Thunderbird is not responding. How can I get this to work again? All of my other programs are working correctly so it must be a problem with Thunderbird only.

Worse yet, mine were installed from DVD and it won't let me upgrade because it claimes it's tied to another account.  So, like you, I can't buy or upgrade my iPhoto leaving me dead in the water because I have mistakenly upgraded Aperture so my library is now incompatible!
I see reports that Apple has corrected this issue for some, but it's not for us.

  • RAW adjustements not responding

I was working 'fine' with Aperture (I'm still on the fence regarding whether I'll be using it full-time in my workflow as it's not the application I expected) and now mid-project the RAW adjustments are not responding. I can't adjust the expoosure or white balance nothing in that window in any view.
Did I 'lock' a whole bunch of images accidentally?
I've tried to open another project and the I'm getting the same problem with the adjustment panel with other images.
    What's going on here?

In fairness to the person having the problem -- if it is an intermittent problem, it is sometimes a good idea to wait and not restart, so that when you get a support person you can reproduce the problem.
Restarting and have it clear up doesn't make me feel better that there is an unresolved bug out there just waiting to jump up and bite when I'm trying to hit a deadline.

  • I7 Fully loaded iMac becoming unusable slow apps not responding with Mavericks

Very frustrating. My 2012 iMac with an i7/16Gig memory is crawling with Mavericks. It didn't start out that way, but it's almost unusable now. I will get a few minutes of seeming to work fine, then periods of long lasting slowness. Evening typing an email will have a delay where typing will not come out as I am typing it for a few seconds, then it all bursts out. Simple interactions get spinning beach balls from 5-45 seconds. The activity monitor shows nothing taking any particularly large amount of processor load, memory pressure and status is all green & good. Some disk activity but nothing that should account for the lags. Loading applications, the system grinds to being unresponsive. Adobe applications and running aperture have delays in activity from 5-60 seconds in simple interaction. The activity monitor then shows several of the larger apps (iTunes, Aperture, Premiere Pro) as Application Not Responding. It can take from to 30 seconds (if Im lucky) to several minutes for the system to become responsive again. Sometimes it never does.
I have run DiskUtility /repair permissions several times with no real results. There are documented issues with Finder being slow to pull up files and directories. I ran the fix for that as well as the slow restart/bootup issues documented. Those fixes made a difference but not with the overall issue of the system just grinding to a halt.
Has anyone else seen this, any suggestions on what to do to fix it? Im spending more time fighting the computer than getting my work done.
