Aperture 3-- photos disappear when trying any adjustment
A series of RAW photos cannot be adjusted--anytime I try any adjustment the photo disappears and will not reappear until I go to EDIT and UNDO the attempted adjustment.
I have tried reprocessing all masters, etc., to no avail.
The camera and lenses are all the same I have used in the past and have no trouble making adjustments--just one series of photos.
Anyone with similar problems or suggested solutions? Help is sincerely appreciated!
Trying to get my head around this one. When you say the photo disappears, do you mean that it disappears from the browser?
The only way I have been able to replicate this is as below.
RAW is visible, with adjustments applied:
RAW is not visible:
Make sure that the search field is clear.
An obvious one I know...

Photos disappear when trying to edit
When I connect I see my website perfectly. However when I go to EDIT a page, all the photos disappear. What is causing that? And how can it be fixed?
There are several possible causes for the Black Screen issue
1. Permissions in the Library: Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Include the option to check and repair permissions.
2. Minor Database corruption: Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.
3. A Damaged Photo: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and right click on it. From the resulting menu select 'Show File (or 'Show Original File' if that's available). (On iPhoto 11 this option is under the File -> Reveal in Finder.) Will the file open in Preview? If not then the file is damaged. Time to restore from your back up.
4. A corrupted iPhoto Cache: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto folder from HD/Users/Your Name/ Library/ Caches...
5. A corrupted preference file: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
If none of these help: As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there? -
My desktop photo disappears when I reboot iMac...replaced with default apple image. does anyone know a fix?
First, try to delete the Desktop settings file. First, open Finder, select Go menu > Go to Folder, and type ~/Library/Preferences. Then, delete "com.apple.desktop.plist" and "com.apple.systempreferences.plist", and restart your computer. Finally, change the wallpaper and see if it stays after restarting your computer
If that does not work try
open the Applications Support folder and then look for the Dock folder and open that. There are two files, one of which is "desktoppicture.db". Move this file to the trash and securely delete it. Restart the computer. A new "desltoppicture.db" will be created on startup.
Finally, reset your desktop picture again using System Preferences. -
I keep getting a run time error on my elements 11 photo editor when trying to upload a photo
I keep getting a run time error on my elements 11 photo editor when trying to upload a photos?
Please try updating to version 19.0
Please check if all your plugins are up-to-date. To do this, go to the [http://mozilla.com/plugincheck Mozilla Plugin Check site].
Once you're there, the site will check if all your plugins have the latest versions.
If you see plugins in the list that have a yellow ''Update'' button or a red ''Update now'' button, please update these immediately.
To do so, please click each red or yellow button. Then you should see a site that allows you to download the latest version. Double-click the downloaded file to start the installation and follow the steps mentioned in the installation procedure. -
Photos disappear when I try to edit them
I have had trouble on and off with my photos disappearing from the screen when I am editing them. I have tried closing all applications running in the background while editing photos, closing and reopening iPhoto, restarting my computer. Nothing fixes it. I am currently unable to edit any photos without this happening. What is the problem?
Apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start with Option #3, followed by #4 and then #1 as needed.
Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments. However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

I photo crahses when trying to delete a large batch of photos
I exported my photo library twice by mistake and now I need to delete around 90.000 photos. The problem is, iPhoto crashes when trying to delete the photographs, and I'd really like to avoid moving them over and delete them in smaller batches, it would take me ages.
Is there anyway I can manually access the files in the iPhoto trash and delete them in the Mac trash?
Thnaks for the help.I exported my photo library twice by mistake
sorry but this is not clear - exporting copies photos form the iPhoto library to your hard drive outside of the iPhoto library and does not change the contents of the iPhoto librar in any way
If you mean imported (as opposed to exported) were you importing a previous iPhoto library into a new iPhoto library? If so you never do that - it does not work and creates massive duplication
Since we have no idea what you have done these are just guesses but if you did import an old library into a new one then simply quit iPhoto and drag the new (bad) one to the desktop, drag the old one to the pictures folder (default location) and launch iPhoto - it will open and convert as needed the old library and you are good to go
If none of these guesses are correct then you will have to open the iPhoto trash in iPhoto (NEVER make any changes of any sort to the structure or content of the iPhoto library using the finder - there are NO user servicable parts in there), select them all and assign a keyword (like trash) and then right click and return to library - then using the keyword to find them delete in small batches (100 or so) emptying the iPhoto trash after each small batch

I can't see the photo tab when trying to sync my iphone from itunes
For some reason, all the tabs are not showing on itunes when trying to sync my iphone. The 'photos' tab in particular is missing. It shows I can scroll to the right to possibly see the rest of the tabs, but when I scroll across to the right, it moves the whole page across, but nothing from itunes moves across with the page. Sorry, it's hard to explain. I hope you can help.
Sorry, it's probably really easy to do, but I'm not sure how to change it. I have a Mac book. Can you help? It's strange that it seems to be the only tab missing, and only when I connect my iphone to sync, it doesn't happen when I sync my ipod. It's weird, and it never used to disappear. I need the photo tab back
Sorry, and thanks to anyone that can help -
Original photos disappear when exporting retouched photos from iPhoto
BACKGROUND:
I have a folder of, say, 15 photos.
I open them in iPhoto and retouch them.
I export the photos and IMMEDIATELY am confronted with the message that they can't be exported because the originals cannot be found.
I go to the original folder of 15 photos and it is completely empty.
The missing photos aren't in the Trash, they are no-where. A search finds NOTHING but the ones in iPhoto.
If I try to copy the photos in iPhoto and paste them into the original folder from which they came, they create ALIASes and the picture doesn't show up ... just a JPEG icon.
If I export photos one at a time, the originals don't disappear, but if I try to export even two in the same procedure, all original photos disappear.
Obviously, this is AWFUL because my photos are gone, vanished, nowhere to be found.
What's wrong with my machine?
(I don't even know what version of iPhoto I'm using ... how do I find that information?)TO LARRYHN
"Please describe your work flow in some detail ..." (brace yourself)
=====
IN A NUTSHELL: Whenever exporting anything from iPhoto, the original photos in Finder VANISH. Poof! They're gone. Thus, I disagree with your and Terence Devlin's comment that "iPhoto has no ability to manipulate files stored outside the iPhoto Library." My uninformed guess is that I need to re-install my OS or at least iPhoto.
BACKGROUND: Yes, I held down the Option key when launching iPhoto and chose CREATE LIBRARY from the resulting menu. Ever since doing that, the problem is the same EXCEPT that iPhoto now hangs virtually EVERY TIME I try to export. AFTER deleting the original files, of course
=====
INITIAL STEPS LEADING UP TO THE EXPORT PROCESS:
(1) From my camera, I import photos into a Desktop folder. Let's say, for this example, there are five photos (test1.jpg, test2.jpg, test3.jpg, test4.jpg and test5.jpg).
(2) I open them in PREVIEW, manipulate them (some need to be rotated). I save all changes.
(3) I need to remove some blemishes (hey, I'm not perfect). I select all 5 photos, CONTROL+CLICK and choose OPEN WITH ... iPhoto.
(4) iPhoto opens, and test1.jpg, test2.jpg, test3.jpg, test4.jpg and test5.jpg are in a new UNTITLED EVENT.
(5) As confirmation, I open Finder, navigate to the Desktop folder and confirm that the five original photos are still present.
Now here's where things go awry and I'll outline everything I've done:
NOTE: For all of these examples, I am not going to spend time to EDIT the photos in iPhoto. I am simply leaving the 5 photos I just imported untouched in an UNTITLED EVENT. (If I edit them, the results are the same, so I'm not going to waste my time.)
EXAMPLE ONE: EXPORTING ONE PHOTO AT A TIME
(6) I select test1.jpg (from UNTITLED EVENT) and choose FILE/EXPORT.
(7) The EXPORT PHOTO screen appears, and, without making any changes to the default settings (Kind: Current, Jpeg Quality: Medium, etc.), I select EXPORT.
(8) A screen appears: ALERT - The photo test1.jpg could not be opened because the original cannot be found."
(9) I choose FIND PHOTO and navigate to the original desktop folder containing the original 5 photos. I confirm that test1.jpg is there.
(10) I choose OK.
(11) The EXPORT PHOTOS screen appears reading, "test1.jpg already exists. Do you want to replace it?"
(12) I select REPLACE and a screen appears "Exporting ... 1 of 1" and IMMEDIATELY another screen appears in front of that reading, "ALERT - The photo test1.jpg could not be opened, because the original item cannot be found." (You will recall that just seconds ago, it was definitely there!)
(13) I choose FIND PHOTO ... and iPhoto hangs and must be shut down using FORCE QUIT.
(14) Just for grins & giggles, I check the Desktop folder to be sure test1.jpg is still there ... and it is.
EXAMPLE TWO: EXPORTING ONE PHOTO AT A TIME (and hopefully doing so w/o iPhoto hanging)
(6) In iPhoto, I select test1.jpg (from UNTITLED EVENT) and choose FILE/EXPORT.
I confirm that test1.jpg is present.
(10) I click on OK.
(11) The EXPORT PHOTOS screen appears reading, "test1.jpg already exists. Do you want to replace it?"
(12) I select REPLACE and a screen appears "Exporting ... 1 of 1" and IMMEDIATELY another screen appears in front of that reading, "ALERT - The photo test1.jpg could not be opened, because the original item cannot be found." (You will recall that just seconds ago, it was SO present that iPhoto confirmed I wanted to replace it!)
(13) I choose FIND PHOTO and navigate to the Desktop folder and, sure enough, there is no test1.jpg. One second ago, it was there but as soon as I chose REPLACE from iPhoto, it disappeared. I mean it's gone. It's not in the trash, it's not in the folder. It has vanished. Only test2.jpg through test5.jpg remain.
EXAMPLE THREE: EXPORTING ALL 5 PHOTOS AT ONCE
(I recreate the Desktop folder so it once again contains five photos ... test1.jpg through test5.jpg)
(6) In iPhoto, I select all 5 photos (test1.jpg, test2.jpg, test3.jpg, test4.jpg and test5.jpg ... from UNTITLED EVENT) and choose FILE/EXPORT.
(7) The EXPORT PHOTO screen appears, and, without making any changes to the default settings (Kind: Current, Jpeg Quality: Medium, etc.), I select EXPORT.
NOTE: In this example, iPhoto voluntarily navigated to the original Desktop folder ... it didn't make me search for the photos.
(8) A screen appears: FILES EXIST - test1.jpg and 4 other files already exist at the destination. Do you want to replace them?
(9) I select REPLACE and a screen appears "Exporting ... Exporting Image 1 of 5 and IMMEDIATELY another screen appears in front of that reading, "Alert, The photo test1.jpg could not be opened, because the original item cannot be found."
(10) I select FIND PHOTO and navigate to the Desktop folder and the folder is complete empty. All 5 photos have vanished.
====
QUESTION: Since all of my original photos have disappeared, how can I recreate them? I spent a month through-hiking the JMT this summer and you can imagine what a tragedy it was to find that virtually every one of my photos has disappeared and I have no way of replacing them. I can see them in iPhoto, but I can't bring them OUT of iPhoto and back into a Finder folder.)

AS AN ASIDE ... when I have to FORCE QUIT of iPhoto, I am given the opportunity to REPORT or IGNORE. If I choose REPORT, a screen appears reading that the transmission failed and that I should "try again later." This has been happening for quite some time. I cannot create a connection between my computer and Apple to report any problems.
Here's the information contained in the Problem Report for iPhoto:

I can see my photos in the individual events, but when I open a photo to look at it by itself, it fills the screen as expected but then the screen instantly goes black and the photo disappears. Any ideas what is causing this? Thank you
There are several possible causes for the Black Screen issue
Will the file open in Preview? If not then the file is damaged. Time to restore from your back up.
4. A corrupted iPhoto Cache: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto folder from HD/Users/Your Name/Library/ Caches...
If none of these help:
As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there? -
Address Card photo disappears when exporting in Leopard
Hi guys,
Has anyone else out there experienced this? I can't see anything on the forums.
When I export a vCard, the photo disappears. It doesn't matter which method I use (dragging the card to the desktop or exporting via the pull down menu).
Thoughts anyone?
Cheers from NZ
Scott. You may need to go into the preferences, go to the vCard pref pane, and enable "Export photo".

Photos disappeared when I have emptied the basket
Why all the photos that I hade in the event are disappeared when I have emptied the basket?
Well as you have no back up and your Library cannot be repaired your only option now is to recover the photos from the damaged library and start over from scratch.
To create and populate a new iPhoto 11 library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Events and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'. A new blank library will open.
Go into the damaged iPhoto Library in your Pictures Folder. Right Click on it and select Show Package Contents. Find the Masters folder. From there drag the individual Event Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the damaged iPhoto Library.

When entering an event in the calender the page scrolls up when trying to enter and adjust the time, how do you adjust thge time upwards without moving the page?
I see no direct connection.. a printer and the computer setup for internet are not related.
But it sounds like the router in the wife's office is now in the wrong mode..
If you have an existing main router replace the second router for a switch .. that is the easy way.
Otherwise you need to bridge the router if it has that option.. most do not. Or use wan bypass.. where you turn off the dhcp server in the router and fix its ip to match the range of the main router.. this is the hassle of using router as a switch.
BUT I am making a huge number of assumptions.
What I need is the full network layout.. a quick picture would help.
I need main modem.. main router.. (maybe same box or different).. make model and current IP address and how dhcp is setup.
I need secondary router.. if that is what it is, IP and settings.
I want the printer type and model. How it is connected.
BTW I much prefer to see a network printer plugged into the network rather than usb.. it is only a matter of sorting the IP settings and driver pointing to the network rather than local.
Or you should think of it as a broken washing machine and call the technician.. who could fix the whole lot in an hour. -
Ipod nano - photos disappear when I add new ones
When I transfer photos from my computer to my ipod nano that's fine - but the photos already in my ipod disappear!
Anyone help?
Roy43Are you choosing the same folder each time to sync
photos from?
If this isnt the case then thats why the photos
disappear, the ipod recognises that the "new" folder
chosen doesnt have the photos already contained on
the ipod in it and deletes them accordingly.
The easiest way to transfer photos (at least i found
it easier lol) is to create a new folder on your
computer called "ipod photos" or something like that,
then copy all the photos that you want on your ipod
into that folder. Then sync the ipod photos from that
folder, and when you want to remove certain photos,
simply delete or move them from the folder, connect
the ipod, and sync again.
Hope this helps
Many thanks- I'll try that. I assume that it's the same procedure for Windows (you) and Mac (me)?

Can't find photo's when trying to sync ipad to itunes
can't find photo's when sycing ipad to itunes
I also am having problems. I have the newest ipad (4 and mini both) and also all software is up to date. My itunes is 11.0.5 which is the most up to date version. First off my ipad has over 7 GB of photos on it which is taking up too much space. I want to delete my Photo Library which is apparently all photos off my laptop that got synced to my ipad. The ipad itself will not allow a delete option in this Photo Library. Additionally the new version of itunes does NOT have a Photo tab or option to click or otherwise which photos to sync. It's as if photos through itunes was removed in their new software version. Anyway...... I can not delete or remove from my ipads the photos that came from my main computer.... the only photos able to be deleted are those that I actually took from my ipad. This is also true for my husbands iPhone 5.... Please help Thank you
