Aperture 3 Photos "Group by date"?

Hi,
I recently upgraded from iPhoto, and I miss the feature where photos are grouped by date in the grid view. To see what I mean, see how the image previews in Import have a header bar that splits pictures into dates. I'm wondering if there's a setting that I've missed that allows LIBRARY/Photos to be grouped by date.
The closest thing I've seen is the "Group by year" in LIBRARY/Projects.

Aperture->Provide Aperture Feedback but I wouldn't hold my breath.
What you are asking  is something a lot of new users switching over from iPhoto seem to miss. But as they get use to the different interface and workflow in Aperture most seem to not miss it after a while.
Speaking for myself I rarely look at my library in Photos view. It's just to big to effectively browse it that way. Apertures allows you to setup your library in exactly the way you want for the way you will be accessing your images, The hard part is figuring out how you will be accessing them. So for that reason you need to take some time at the start and play around with different layouts. I must have imported my iPhoto library half a dozen times or more when I first switched over.
I finally settled on a storage scheme based on date. I have folders setup by year, under those I have month folders then under those I have the images in projects named by the day.  This works for me and mirrors how I use to work back in the olden days of film. Other users have their own schemes based on various other criterion. You need to find what works for you.
Don't just accept the default way Aperture imports your iPhoto library. Play around some until you find something that works for you.
Remember Aperture isn't just a replacement for or a larger version of iPhoto. It has capabilities that go far beyond what iPhoto is capability of.

  • Sorting Aperture photos on ATV...

After the upgrade I really love the option to be able to sort my Aperture photos by EXIF date or file name. It was a frequent request and great Apple listened to its customers, now I finally can use ATV in my photo business.
    Cheers, Fons.

Interesting...I had read elsewhere that the new ATV update Take 2 does not play nice with Aperture-based photo organization. I heard that it just dumps all your Aperture photos into AppleTV, with no regard for Project folders, etc. Is that not the case in your experience? Can you give very specifically, what are you able to do with the Aperture hierarchy of projects/albums/photos...
    Thanks much!

  • I can't import photos from iphone4 to Aperture after Yosemite upgrade, aperture is up to date

Aperture stopped recognizing my IPhone4 when I try to import photos.  This happened after I upgraded to Yosemite.  My phone does show up in ITunes, and I have tried unlocking phone and shutting it off/on.  My Aperture is up to date.

I went to Yosemite help page, and found an answer to another problem I was having after OS X upgrade.  I was seeing duplicate iMacs under devices (I was checking to see if my phone showed up which it didn't).    The fix for that problem took care of the problem I was having with the iPhone import into Aperture.
This leads me to believe the problem was due to the upgrade and some bugs that are still there.   Now it's working fine.
    Thank again for you help.

  • Printing Photos in a group by date

    Hi all:
I have three groups of photos. One group has 125 photos, another about 200 photos, and the final one has about 350 photos. Each group has photos with dates from July 5th to October 18th, 2010.
I need to take certain photos from a date (say September 1st) and print photos from that date forward. Is this possible, and if so, how?
    Thanks.
    Dan Uff

Make a Smart Album to Find the photos:
FIle -> New -> Smart Album
Date -> Is In The Range -> September 1 2010 -> Whatever the End Date is
    Then print those
    Regards

  • How do I backup my iPhoto Library to an external hard drive and keep my photos grouped by their events?

How can I backup my iPhoto Library to an external hard drive and keep my photos grouped by their events?

I have attempted to make sure my iPhoto library has been backed up on the external hard drive and that it is safe to delete some events from my internal hard drive
You need to think this through.
Time Machine is a back up application. It keeps a rolling back up of the data. It's called rolling because it means you can revert to the data you had on a specific date and time. But that's not eternal, and as time goes by, and your drive fills up, older backups are deleted. So if you delete Events on your Mac they will - eventually - also be deleted from the Time Machine back up.
If you wan tot archive data hendon't use Time Machine for that job. Here's how you might archive an iPhoto Library:
Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
Now you have two full versions of the Library.
    3. On the Internal library, trash the Events you don't want there
Now you have a full copy of the Library on the External and a smaller subset on the Internal
    Some Notes:
As a general rule: when deleting photos do them in batches of about 100 at a time. iPhoto can baulk at trashing large numbers at one go.
You can choose which Library to open: Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library'
You can keep the Library on the external updated with new imports using iPhoto Library Manager

  • Can I turn off grouping by date in Finder and also 'Arrange by' and 'Sort by' in ascending and descending order?

I am trying to arrange my photostream saved search (which doesn't update automatically after I did the search for the first time which is very annoying) but finder won't let me arrange in ascending order of date (i.e.: oldest to newest). Is there a way I can do this or will my folder arrangements always be the one way without the option to change it to the opposite arrangement (same for alphabetical). Also, Finder automatically arranges my photos into groups of dates (e.g.: 'previous 30 days', 'September'). Is there any way I can turn this off?
Also if anyone can fix this stupid photostream issue for me that would be great!
    thanks very much

Even in list view, the photos are grouped by previous seven days, previous 30 days, October, and so on.. there is no option i see that will let me change to order by date modified without these groupings or to just turn these groupings off altogether
but thank you for your reply

  • I prefer to arrange my photos by title but when I shut down Iphoto, my photos rearrange by date.  This is not acceptable for my growing library of snanned black and white ancestral photos. How do I get photos in events to stay in place ?

I prefer to arrange my photos by title but when I shut down Iphoto, my photos rearrange by date.  This is not acceptable for my growing library of snanned black and white ancestral photos. How do I get photos in events to stay in place ?

I actually am illiterate on the use of the finder to to view photos in folders.  I guess I will go to a class at the local Apple store for a lesson on the uses of finder .
My method of viewing my photos are through events in I photo.
    1. Download  from camera or scan  in from old photos.
2  I organize photos into events by occasion, or happenings in a certain year, or a group of photos with memorabilia of a certain person from childhood and on. etc.
    3.  Because Iphoto does not allow rearranging as I was able to do in my old PC with Corell,  I drag all of the photos to an " album" on the left side of sceen.
    4.  I arrange photos in "order" after which I number each photo in sequence. I do this for a few of reasons.
              - if a photo is accidentally deleted I know it.  I can usually remedy this by checking my trash or
    rescanning.
              - I can sort by title without complications and this holds in "album"
    5.  The pictures will re arrange automatially to match the album in I photo.
    6.  This worked great in I-photo 09 but now in mountain lion the pictures in events go back to "
sort by date" and will not hold "sort to Title"each time I photo is closed down.  What a nuicance it is to have to go  to view and click "title"  again and again every time Iphoto is opened.
    7. Can I go back to Photo 09? .

  • Events are not grouped by date

Recently I had a crash on my iPhoto and had to basically re-input all 60,000 photos. All went well and iPhoto working okay now. Only issue is the events are not grouped by date anymore.  meaning I have several events that are on the same date. All the setting appear to be correct.
Is there a way to have iPhoto regroup the events all by date?

The only way to sort events is the view menu --> sort events - Using it you can re-sort events a few ways
Events are not categorized so there is no way to "re-categorize" them
What you need to do is to restore your backup of the iPhoto library from before the crash that caused you to import your masters folder into iPhoto
And probably if you had rebuild the library after the crash you would have been OK - Back up your iPhoto library, Depress and hold the option (alt) and command keys and launch iPhoto - from the resulting first aid window repair permissions and if necessary rebuild your database   --  this will not help on the new library that you created - it has to be done on the bad library that resulted from the crash

  • I scanned an old photo but the date displayed is today, I want the date to be the date the photo was taken.  How do I change the date of the photo in iPhoto 11?

I scanned an old photo but the date displayed is today, I want the date to be the date the photo was taken.  How do I change the date of the photo in iPhoto 11?

There are two kinds of metadata involved when you consider jpeg or other image file.
One is the file data. This is what the Finder shows. This tells you nothing about the contents of the file, just the File itself.
The problem with File metadata is that it can easily change as the file is moved from place to place or exported, e-mailed, uploaded etc.
Photographs have also got both Exif and IPTC metadata. The date and time that your camera snapped the Photograph is recorded in the Exif metadata. Regardless if what the file date says, this is the actual time recorded by the camera.
Photo applications like iPhoto, Aperture, Lightroom, Picasa, Photoshop etc get their date and time from the Exif metadata.
When you export from iPhoto to the Finder new file is created containing your Photo (and its Exif). The File date is - quite accurately - reported as the date of Export.
However, the Photo Date doesn't change.
The problem is that the Finder doesn't work with Exif.
So, your photo has the correct date, and so does the file, but they are different things. To sort on the Photo date you'll need to use a photo app.

  • Some Aperture photos and projects missing from iLife Media Browser

Good evening - having a little bit of trouble getting Aperture to work smoothly with my iLife media browser (i.e., inserting photos into Mail, Pages, Keynote, etc).
I currently have 5699 photos and 131 projects in Aperture. But the iLife Media Browser only shows me 5131 photos and 130 projects; when clicking on individual projects in the browser, anywhere from 3 to 70 photos per project are missing. Tried repairing permissions, repairing the database, and rebuilding the database - this improved the issue, but didn't completely resolve it as 5679 photos now show in the Media Browser, and 20 remain missing. Also tried deleting, and generating previews for all my photos in the library. No change.
My library is mostly referenced, with a few photos managed.
Obviously in the grand scheme of things 20 photos missing in the Media Browser not that big a deal. But wanting to get to the root cause though because without solving this issue, I'm concerned about a larger underlying problem that may only get worse as my library grows.
Has anyone had, or resolved a problem similar to this? And can anyone offer any additional suggestions? Are there any specific files that feed the iLife Media Browser that I can delete and rebuild that may solve this issue?
    thanks,
    Mark

I think I've ironed this out. Several intertwined issues. I took a moment to type out my notes; hopefully it helps you guys solve this quickly if you get a call from someone else on this down the line.
[1] original problem of several hundred items missing in Media Browser: probably an issue of previews not being built. Mostly fixed when I regenerated previews for my library, but repairing permissions and repairing the database may have helped too.
[2] Residual problem of 20 items still missing (5698 items displayed in Aperture when selecting Inspector > Library > Photos; 5677 items displayed in Mail Photo Browser). My issue wasn't as much with 20 missing items in a browser as it was with trying to understand the root cause and whether I had an underlying Aperture, Aperture Library, or OS problem that would bite me later. Turns out several things were causing this problem:
[2a] In Aperture, when you select Inspector > Library > Photos , all your content is displayed: photos, videos, and any audio clips you may have imported (e.g., a recorded audio clip on your camera narrating shoot, location, client, exposure value etc). So even though you've selected "Photos", your "xxx items displayed" count on the bottom of the screen reflects all your imported content. This is not the case in the Media Browser - of which there are two variants in Mac OS:
[2a.1] Mail has a Photo Browser, which behaves much like a "Media Browser Lite: the title bar says "Photo Browser", it only accesses your Aperture and iPhoto Libraries, and only shows photos and video.
[2a.2] iWork applications have a more comprehensive Media Browser, where you can select between Audio, Photos, and Movies. If you select Audio the iWork Media Browser will show any audio files present in your Aperture or iTunes library. If you select Movies, the iWork Media Browser will show any movie clips present in your Aperture or iMovie libraries. Photos behaves the same way as "Photo Browser" in Mail, showing any photos present in your Aperture (or iPhoto if installed) libraries.
Turns out I had three audio clips in my Aperture library. When selecting "Photos" in either the Mail or iWork browsers, the total item count will only show photos and videos - no audio clips. So now 17 missing items remain.
[2b] Stacks - one project contained nine photos grouped into a stack. Only the key photo of a stack is previewed/shown in Media Browser. So a stack of nine photos will only show as one in the browser - unstacking the photo will allow them all to appear. So now nine missing items.
[2c] Seven photographs somehow had broken links to their referenced masters, and needed to be reconnected. Down to two missing items.
[2d] One photo simply wouldn't cooperate - no matter how many times I regenerated the preview, or deleted the preview and then regenerated it, nothing worked. I deleted it from the library and reimported it. One missing item remains.
[2e] Final missing item was a photograph I rejected. Makes sense; as media browser does not display rejects.
Problem solved!! Hopefully this might be of help to somebody in the future.
    cheers,
    Mark

  • HELP RESTORING MY APERTURE PHOTOS

ok ill try to explain this the best I can...
I am trying to restore photos in aperture threw TM.  When I enter TM I click on my external HD where the backups are saved on the bottom left.  I search to a date on one of the folders I want and search threw it until I find the Aperture logo and I right click it and select browse file.  I then search until I find the photos I was looking for.  When I try to restore that specific folder to my desktop all the photos are crazy small files.  they should be huge like 17mp each.  ok so I go back to the aperture folder restore that date cuz I know the pics i want are in there, well when the folder gets restored to my pictures and i open the library in aperture those pictures are no where to be found.  A lot of other pics are there but not the ones i saw in a sub folder in TM.  Not sure how to restore those and was wondering if Im doing something wrong.  PLEASE HELP CUZ THEY ARE MY HONEYMOON PICS AND THE WIFE IS ON MY CASE:)  THX!!!!!

First: are your Masters Referenced on Managed?  I will assume they are Managed (the Masters are stored inside your Aperture Library).
Others may have a more refined plan.  Until then, you might try this:
Make a separate back-up of your current Library (copy your .aplibrary file to a second location).
From TM, restore an older version of your entire Library file to a new location (not the one it was backed up from).
Open this Library, select the Images you want, and export them as a Library, including Masters.  Close this Library.
Open your current Library and import the just-exported Library.
    Discard the restored-from-TM Library.
(Totally optional: Stop referring to your wife as "THE WIFE".  It's disrespectful, even when none is intended.)
    Good luck.

  • How can I arrange photo albums by date?

How do I arrange photo albums by date like the old iPhoto?

How do I arrange photo albums by date like the old iPhoto?
You can only arrange albums by name or manually. So you would have to make the data a part of the name, if you want to sort by date. It might help to group the albums in folders by year or so.

  • How to merge photo groups

Before I was able to merger photo groups but don't seem to find that option. Example I download wedding photos and then someone send me their photos which I now want to put all together. Thanks

You can't merge the Moments as they are based on date taken.  You could select the photos you want to be in the same Moment and use the Image ➙ Adjust Date and Time menu option so the all have the same single date.  A better solution is to use albums in the sidebar.
Moments in Photos are the new Events, i.e. groupings of photos sorted by date taken.
When the iPhoto Library was first migrated to Photos there was a folder created in the sidebar titled iPhoto Events and all migrated iPhoto Events (which are now Moments) are represented by an album in that folder. To open the sidebar if it's not already open use the Option+Command+S key combination.
There's a way to simulate events in Photos.
When new photos are imported into the Photos library go to the Last Import smart album, select all the photos and use the File ➙ New Album menu option or use the key combination Command+N.  Name it as desired.  It will appear just above the iPhoto Events folder where you can drag it into the iPhoto Events folder
When you click on the iPhoto Events folder you'll get a simulated iPhoto Events window.
The downside to the simulation is that the Albums/Events can only be sorted automatically by Title. But they can also be sorted manually, either in the sidebar or in the folder's window at the right.
Ask Apple for more sorting options in Photos via https://www.apple.com/feedback/photos.html.

  • ITunes won't see all Aperture photos

I have a rather large Aperture photo library (30,000 photos), and I like to view various groups of photos on my iPod Touch and also on my Apple TV. In both cases, however, iTunes won't let me choose all of the available projects and albums. In some instances, it will recognize the album but won't see any photos. In this particular scenario, the album has about 1500 photos of jpeg and Canon Raw types. Is this a known problem or am I configuring Aperture albums incorrectly for iTunes compatibility?
I have Aperture 2.0.1, Leopard and iTunes 7.6.1. The iPod Touch is at 1.1.4 and Apple TV is running 2.0 of the OS.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Greg

Somewhat similar issue here. No new photos are being added to the iPhone via iTunes sync and iTunes does not seem to update itself with the Aperture library at all. I have photos in the "Last Week" smart album in Aperture (empty) while the iPhone displays 57 photos that are now pushing a month old.
The problem is exactly the same with the sync to Apple TV, so I figure the common link (iTunes) is likely the culprit -- though I guess it's possible that Aperture is not sharing the info with iTunes.
The problem seemed to have appeared with iTunes 7.6 and persists with 7.7.1. and with the most-recent Aperture update.
I completely trashed the .plist files for iTunes a week or so ago to no avail.

  • How to avoid grouping by date with dates as incoming parameters?

Hello, I have the following Query from SAP Business One set as DataSource:
SELECT  T1.SlpName as 'Vendor', convert(varchar(12), T0.[U_ER_PROV])as 'City', T0.[CardCode] as 'Client Code', T3.CardName as 'Client Name', T0.DocDate as 'Date', T2.ItemCode, T4.ItemName as 'Reference Description', sum (T2.Quantity) as 'Toal Units per Reference',
avg (T2.Price)as 'Average Price', sum(T2.LineTotal) as 'Total'
    FROM ODLN T0
    INNER JOIN OSLP T1
    ON T0.SlpCode = T1.SlpCode
    INNER JOIN DLN1 T2
    ON T0.DocEntry = T2.DocEntry
    INNER JOIN OCRD T3
    ON T0.CardCode = T3.CardCode
    INNER JOIN OITM T4
    ON T2.ItemCode = T4.ItemCode
    group by  T1.SlpName, convert(varchar(12), T0.[U_ER_PROV]), T0.[CardCode], T4.ItemName, T0.DocDate, T2.ItemCode, T3.CardName
    order by  T1.SlpName, convert(varchar(12), T0.[U_ER_PROV]), T0.CardCode, T0.DocDate, T2.ItemCode
What I´d like to do is, grouping in Crystal Reports, the result of this query by Item Code, not by date. The problem I have is that I need users introduce "from date" to "end date" as incoming paramater.
The way I am running it, for example  I have some results like:
    date                         Item Code               Total
    01/01/2009               4646_R2                  120 u20AC
    10/01/2009               4646_R2                  34 u20AC
And I´d like to take something like this:
    Item code                       Total
    4646_R2                         154 u20AC
    Not grouping by date ......
Is there any way to do this using this query in Crystal Reports?
Thanks very much for your time.

Hello all, thanks very much to  Raghavendra for his helpfully answer.
I followed your coments and now the report is running fine.
Thanks again for your help without expecting anything in return.
