Aperture 3 stated library was full

Been using Aperture 3 about a year.  On vacation and loading picture I've been taking.  I just tried to load some pictures and it said the library was full.  After a power off/on, I can no longer run Aperture 3.  It looks like it is launching, says it is loading the library, then just quits with no errors.  I have 28G free on my internal drive (Mac Book Pro, 512G SSD, 8G ram).  System is one year old.

Don't look up "done".  I was using that to refer to Images that you are unlikely to be applying further adjustments to.  The major differences between Images with Managed Masters vs. Images with Referenced Masters is that with the latter your Masters must be on-line in order to apply Adjustments or export Versions (though you can still export the Previews).
My workflow includes converting from Managed to Referenced the Masters of Images older than 45 days.  45 days is about as long as I am likely to need a Master with me on my MPB, which is my main computer.  All the Referenced Masters are stored on a 1 TB external drive at my studio.
Such a set-up may be of use to you.  Though the particulars will depend on your workflow, I'm comfortable strongly recommending that you familiarize yourself with the use of Referenced Masters and begin to migrate some of your Image's Masters to an external drive.

    Hi all,
I was getting messages that my Aperture Library was full, so made an appointment at my closest Mac store, but have to wait 2 days. They advise you to update saoftware before coming in, so I updated to Aperture 5.3.1. When I open it, I'm asked to update my library. When I select that option, I'm told that my library is full. Now I can't access my library at all. What should I do to access my library? Do I have to uninstall 5.3.1 and reinstall an older version?
Another problem I have recently encountered ... all the up and down scrollers on various screens have disappeared. They reappear fleetingly when I use my up and down arrowa, but I can't always catch them. How do I get my scrollers back?

Thank you so much for your patient guidance and screen captures.
    You are welcome.
My external hard drive is properly formatted for Aperture, so I am currently copying my Aperture library to it. That will take hours since it is copying 101 GB.
    o.k.
I understand that I need to clean some space on my internal hard drive and reformat the Aperture library to get back in operation.
You need to upgrade the Aperture library to be used with Aperture 3.5.1.  That will happen automatically, when you first double click the copied lirary to open it in Aperture.
I'll also need to back up my external drive with a new external drive if I make space on my internal drive by removing some photos from there and store them on my current external drive.
What do you use for backup? If you are using TimeMachine it is better to have only the Time Machine backup on the Time Machine drive . In that case would I put the Aperture library and other data on a new drive and keep the old drive for backup.

So this is a 2 part question:
    1) how to I backup the Photo Library to my new hard drive (as the last one was unrecoverable but previously backed up)
    2) how do I remove the Photo Library form my phone (preferably after backup in item 1)
    Thanks, Janis

Since it has always been very basic to backup your computer and all it's data, Apple provides no way for you to transfer music from your iPhone back to your computer.  As you know, you can re-download all iTunes purchases, but music that you ripped yourself you'll have to just re-rip again.
You can try and find 3rd party applications that might help you.  I'm sure you'll pay, however.
Let this be a very important lesson learned.
    Best.

I'm worried about losing photos/videos of my children. Im not sure if there's something special I need to do once I turn it back on; in the meantime, its still on... which I'm afraid the picture on the screen will burn into the screen. Does that happen on iMac's? Thx!

Try a hard reset. ( holding Power til it restarts)
Once to your desktop. Click the Apple icon >> About this mac >> More info>> Storage
Once you see what you have the most of. Try to see what you can delete.
Open up any folder>>all files>> or buy an external to store more data.
Once deleting make sure you empty your trash.
If you are new and its a new computer, you might need to bring it to a store for further assistence.

  • Aperture 3.5.1 says this library was opened with a newer version of Aperture, repairing it with this version may damage the library

I launched Aperture with Option Command on opening so that I could repair the unified database. After I select repair from the menu, I keep getting a strange error message that says "This library has been opened with a newer version of Aperture. Repairing the library using this version of Aperture may remove data supported only in newer versions of Aperture." I selected cancel and checked that I am running Aperture 3.5.1 and there are no updates showing up when I select Software Update. So how could I have opened it with a newer version of Aperture before? And what is it going to remove?
Aperture is telling me that my unified library needs to be repaired. I figured that out myself when photos started disappearing in events and albums in iPhoto, even though the event or album showed several photos were there in the number of photos in the top right, no images appeared. But I have never received this error message in Aperture before and I do not know where it is coming from or what it is going to do.

Here is the Open Library View #1:
Even though my unified library is the default library, just in case this problem was being caused because of the Aperture 3 Trial Library version (even though that is not the library that Aperture was opening), I upgraded that library too. Here is the Open Library Info after that library upgrade:
I retried the Aperture repair on my unified library and got the same error message on launch:
But I am running the repair anyway because I do not know what else to do. I will let you know how that goes when it is finished.

  • Aperture library volume full

I have received this message "there is not enough free space on your aperture library to import selected items" I do not know wwhy there is not enough space when I have the library on a separate hard drive in the computer. Please help.

I had one occurrence on my Quad, but under 1.0.1/10.4.5 as I recall.
I emptied the Trash, and then I ran Disk Utility/Repair Permissions and some permissions were reset. The problem has not recurred. So, unknown if it was coincidental, whether closing Aperture and reopening was the solution. However, I now routinely run Disk Utility/Repair which mostly gives me a thumbs up, but occasionally does reset a/some permissions.
The Quad is 2x500Gb in a RAID 0 configured as two spanned partitions. Aperture's library was on the Alpha partition, was 145Gb in size and which had around 200Gb of free space. Vault was on a 300Gb external firewire drice.

  • Aperture Library is full

My Aperture Library is full and I have just bought a G Drive. What is the correct way of making sure I am transferring all my photos to this external drive and creating space on my MacPro?
    Many Thanks

Then you have a Managed Library.
Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    1. Quit Aperture
    2. Copy the Aperture Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching Aperture. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.

Hopefully you moved the entire iTunes Media (or iTunes Music) folder to a new path on your external drive. Copy your iTunes library folder out to the root of the external drive, e.g. X:\iTunes (where X: is your external drive), then move the media folder inside it. Hold down shift as you start iTUnes and keep holding untila asked to choose or create a library. Choose the library at X:\iTunes\iTunes Library.itl. Should all be good.
Failing that, download and run my FindTracks script and point it at the new location of your media folder.

The songs from the Sony MP3 player need to be imported into your iTunes library first before they can be synced or added to your iPod Classic.
Regarding the songs that didn't import into iTunes, what format are they in and what seems to be different from them compared with the tracks that did import?

  • Aperture 3.5 library not comparable with iPhoto 9.5

I have upgraded to Mavericks, i received the updates fot iPhoto and aperture, so now iPhoto is now 9.5 and Aperture is 3.5.  i previously shared my aperture library with iPhoto, as i work with both apps.  The aperture library had no problems in opening in either app.  Now i received the following error message.
To open this Aperture library in iPhoto, it first needs to be upgraded with Aperture 3.3 or later. Quit iPhoto and then open your library in Aperture to upgrade it.
When i first started Aperture after the update, a message appeared requesting to up date the library which i allowed it to do so.  However the message keeps showing.  i have found that i can open the aperture library in iPhoto, only by selecting the option from the aperture menu.
does any know how i can fix the library issue, as before the updates i could open either app, using the aperture library.

Andrew, thank you for your suggestions.  I have tried all you have suggested before writing for help.
ok, to try and unconfuse my question.  Before i upgraded to Mavericks, iPhoto and Aperture, I hade mountain lion and the latest updates at that time of Aperture and iPhoto.
My photo library is an Aperture library which i share with both iPhoto and Aperture.  This worked very well together, for fault messages.
I upgraded to Mavericks, iPhoto to 9.5 and Aperture to 3.5.  Once install was completed, i opened Aperture, a messaged appeared asking to upgrade the library which i did.  this took a little while.  i then left Aperture to complete all its processing of importing all the details into Aperture this took an hour or 2.  once this was completed, i checked my library in Aperture and everything was there.
I closed down Aperture and i opened iPhoto, the following fault message appeared,
To open this Aperture library in iPhoto, it first needs to be upgraded with Aperture 3.3 or later. Quit iPhoto and then open your library in Aperture to upgrade it.
I quite iPhoto and tired to the option of selecting the library from the iPhoto prestart menu.  I had the same error message.  i tried carrying out an repair with the prestart menu of aperture which only had the same error message come up.  i tried using the my back up aperture library and doing the whole process again, the same message appears.  i have reloaded the iphoto and aperture updates incase there was some kind of app error.  The same error message appears.
However after doing some investigating in aperture i found that there is an option under 'file' to open the library in iPhoto.  doing this my aperture then opens iPhoto, aperture quite's and iphoto opens.
after quitting iphoto, and restarting it the same same fault message appears that i have to upgrade my aperture library.
i hope that this clears my fault up a bit.  please any suggestions would be most grateful.

  • HT3842 I recently had to reinstall iTunes because the program was missing components. Once I did my entire library was erased, can I get it back?

My PC wasn't connecting to the Internet at my home so I did a restore. Once complete, I tried to open iTunes but it said there were components missing and to re-install my Full Library was in the iTunes Music folder but after the re-installation it was all erased. I did a media scan but it only found music from folder I had Saved in folders.
Is there any way that I can find all the music that's been removed? It was over 3,000 songs

For the last few weeks, the iTunes store has been displayed with empty graphic rectangles (with a blue box containing a white question mark centered in the rectangles), bits of text, and some buttons. If all you are trying to do is buy music, you can easily buy MP3s at any online music download store (e.g. amazon.com) and add them to your iTunes library.
