Aperture 3 stuck exporting?

OK,
Aperture is currently showing the "exporting..." message at the bottom of the viewer panel.
I haven't exported anything for days, and there is nothing showing in the "show activity" box.
Any idea what might be causing this, or how to stop it?
Doesn't appear to be affecting performance, but it's a bit annoying.
Thanks!
Matt

Me too! Sick of interrupting workflow just to shut down and restart. Each time is really twice as it has to reopen sometimes for plugins to operate in the right bit mode. Apple should simple get this fixed as it smacks of poor quality control at Beta testing.
In addition, exporting to flickr needs to have an option whereby delating a version does not erase the uploaded photo. Aperture V2 crashed often when the library reached a certain level and V1.5 went funny with the vaults.
Please fix V3 soon, before Lightroom 3 steals the workflow.
Cheers from Rome.

Raws, even if not compressed, Sould be smaller than a 24-bit Tiff, since they have only one bitplane. My T3i shoots 14 bit 18MP raws and has a raw file size of 24.5 MB*. An uncompressed Tiff should have a size of 18 MP x 3 bytes per pixel or 54 MB.
*There must be some lossless compression going on since 18 MP times 1.75 bytes per pixel is 31.5MB for uncompressed raw.

    What problem?
You will have to be _a lot_ more specific if you'd like responsible feedback.
I export thousands of TIFF and JPG files a week with no obvious faults.

  • Aperture and Exporting and Compression (and iPhoto)

    Hello All...
I recently imported an aperture project into iPhoto to create a book for a friend. In aperture, the the photos appears as 1536px x 1024px - i.e. perfectly big enough to create a 6" x 8" softback book. However, after the import, some pics appear as 768px x 512, and some as 1024px x 680px. Now, when I load the images into the book template, it says they are to low quality.
Also, when I dragged an image from aperture to the desktop (one that is the mentioned bigger size in aperture) is saved to the desktop as the smaller size. How can I export from Aperture, preferably to iPhoto, in the original, or a big enough, size?!
    Thanks,
    Sam

    Sam
Sounds like you're dragging files from the Media Viewer that shows up when you go File -> Show Aperture Library. This Media Viewer only contains the Previews generated in Aperture. Dragging to the desktop also gets a Preview. To get the full size pics you need to export from Aperture (File -> Export and choose the correct Export settings) and import to iPhoto.

  • Aperture 3 exporting problems

Seems that every time I try to export a file from Aperture 3, it hangs for a long time before it performs any exports - it is very slow. In Aperture 2, exporting a file that was 900x600 @ 72 dpi was instant, in Aperture 3 the same file takes 15 minutes - 4 files = 1 hour.
    Anyone know how to fix?

    Hi Photo*Gizmo;
You stated; "I see that this issue has not been answered by Apple in over a month, so either they don't care or they are overwhelmed by bugs."
Besides not responding to this forum, Apple doesn't even read this forum. It is a user to user forum. If you really want Apple to be aware of a problem you should use the feedback site instead of posting here.

  • Aperture stuck importing photos, loading asset frozen

aperture stuck importing photos, loading asset frozen

I found a sequence that has worked for me a couple of times, first with a managed library and also with a referenced library. Once you see in the Activity window that nothing is progressing, select the root Folder Import and hit Pause Task. This should pause everything. Now, go and try to Quit Aperture. This will send you a warning that you are Importing, etc. and give you either Quit or Continue. Select Continue.
Go back to the Activity window and select the root Folder Import and hit Run Task. It should be working again.

  • Problem with Aperture slideshow export - Some photos don't display!

I have just completed my latest wedding slideshow. It plays as normal in Aperture, but when exported, certain photos don't show... just a black screen. The timings are unaffected.  Aperture 3.6, Yosemite 10.10.1
The affected photos seem to be the ones that I am displaying for longer durations. I'm using Ken Burn's theme and if I turn off the Ken Burn's effect on the affected photo it gets exported ok.
Having spent many hours working on this slideshow I'm "slightly" annoyed!  This is obviously a bug introduced in Aperture 3.6 or Quicktime on Yosemite, I just hope it can be fixed ASAP.   Unfortunately, I guess Aperture is low on the priority list... I have moved the LR, but still rely on Aperture for slideshows!
    HELP!

Luckily I still had a bootable pre-Yosemite backup of my iMac and have been able to successfully export the slideshow.  Hopefully, Apple will fix the problem before next wedding season!

  • Aperture and export JPEG profiling

I've heard on a photo forum I go to regularly that there's some issue (at least to me it sounds like one) when JPEGs are exported out of Aperture.
Apparently the only way Aperture knows to do that is to assign a profile to exported file. Meaning that if the file is viewed through a software (Safari) which understands profiles, all is well, but if a software has no clue what a profile is than the images look rather flat and way different than when viewed in Aperture prior to export.
I am not using Aperture myself yet, but hope to get clarification on this as it just doesn't sound right that as good app as Aperture is would omit such a functionality especially considering Safari being the only color managed browser right now (maybe there's some other I am not aware of, but IE6 and firefox are not to my knowledge).
I agree that this is rather a flaw of all the other companies who were not yet been able to make their application color managed therefore not a flaw of Aperture. But the reality is that most people are not able to guarantee that their pictures will be only viewed through Safari.
    Thanks for your response.
    Regards
    Marek

Whenever Aperture exports a JPEG it doesn't just tag the output file with an ICC profile it also converts the RGB values accordingly. In other words, an image viewer can use the embedded ICC profile as a recipe for interpreting the RGB values in the file.
If you want to export for viewers that aren't colour space aware the best bet is using sRGB as your export profile. This (or something close) is what most "colour blind" web browsers assume when they render an image file.
Unfortunately, colour space aware browsers are few and far in between. This was the only reason for me to ditch my beloved Firefox and switch to Safari.
BTW, if you don't have Aperture but want to experiment with colour spaces and conversions, ColorSync Utility can be hours of fun. It presumably (most likely) uses the same routines for colour management that Aperture uses.
    Cheers
    Steffen.

  • How do I get Aperture to export to PSE 11?

I am using Aperture 3.4.4 and when I right click on a photo it goes throught the motions to export the photo to PSE11.  PSE opens, but there is no photo there.  There is a dot in the lower right corner of the photo showing that it is an exported photo.  I can then drag the photo to the PSE11 icon and it will open.  I don't understand why it won't do it the first time.  I am also having troubles saving files back to Aperture.  Any thoughts or suggestions?

    Dennis,
I never tried PSE 11, but perhaps it has still the same restrictions as PSE '10, see this thread:
    Re: Round-tripping to PSE 10
    Things to note:
Use "Save" and not "Save as"  - otherwise PSE will not save back into the Aperture library.
Also, when saving, ensure that the the file name extension will not be changed fromm .tiff to tif, or Aperture will not be able to recognize the file again.
PSE '10 used to have an otion to save over the original file.
(Photoshop Elements>Preferences>Saving Files ; set "On First Save" to "save over the original file")

  • How can I get my aperture library exported to iphoto?

Can anyone specifically tell me how to move pictures from aperture to iphoto? Thanks!

You can't import an entire actual Aperture library file into iPhoto.
But you can always create an album with all the images you want to export, select File>Export Versions and then export them to a folder where you can then import them from within iPhoto. You'll be making duplicates (just so you'll know that it will take up some additional disk space.)
If you have some sort of structure you want, you could do this with multiple albums so that iPhoto imports them as individual rolls.

  • Aperture 3 export jpg

Hi, I'm devastated !!! I noticed that export jpg quality for web gallery is awful with Aperture 3.0.2 even by choosing the better quality. I can compare to Aperture 2 and it's not really the same quality. Did you saw that ? I Hope this will be fixed in a next update because my website is really ugly now.
Very disapointed by the new version...

I came home and tried confirming in Aperture at 100%, prior the image was shrunk 33% to fit my screen.
Clearly at 100% I can see in Aperture the star trails colors do degrade when applied edge sharpen, just sharpen adds crispness but barely affects color - if at all.
    100% No sharpen PP:
    http://lh4.ggpht.com/_FqTNmgNQHz8/TFDIcF2jtGI/AAAAAAAAKdg/dCgTBBm8oN0/Jul%2016%2 0tiff%20startrails%20c%20-%20Version%202%20no%20PP.jpg
100% Just sharpen PP, colors still present, I like the added crispness of the star trails:
    http://lh5.ggpht.com/FqTNmgNQHz8/TFDIcnmmII/AAAAAAAAKdk/jCgn8-ws2mE/Jul%2016%20tiff%20startrails%20c%20-%20Version%202% 20sharpen%20PP.jpg
100% sharpen and edge sharpen PP, colors very much affected.
Playing with the edge sharpen controls (intensity, edges, falloff) showed varying degrees of color degradation, I consider any not acceptable so won't use edge sharpen PP for star trails.
    http://lh4.ggpht.com/_FqTNmgNQHz8/TFDIdXHKYGI/AAAAAAAAKdo/TOOPRbODd00/Jul%2016%2 0tiff%20startrails%20c%20-%20Version%202%20sharpenand%20Edge%20PP.jpg
Should edge sharpen be doing this?
I don't know, hard to say.
But at least now I'm WYSIWYG (been so many years since I've typed that), seeing Aperture is same as export.
Teaches me to always confirm at 100% any PP.

  • Iphoto and picasa exporter get stuck exporting

I am using iphoto 11 on a macbook pro running OSX 10.7.5. I have uploaded photos from iphoto to Picasa many times before, but three weeks ago, iphoto got stuck every time it tried to export photos to picasa. It simply says that my photos are uploading, but stops and gets stuck when it reaches 288k on the first photo. When I try to upload photos one at a time, it will get to the end of a photo, and then say it is "finishing upload" and never finishes. I have tried exporting directly with Iphoto to Picasa and then using my picasa uploader application, and both have the same problem. I have plenty of space on my picasa account, and it allows me to log in without any problems. Any ideas of what is wrong and how to fix the problem? Thank you.

That Picasa exporter is made by Google - though it hasn't been updated in years. But they're the folks who can help with that.
have tried exporting directly with Iphoto to Picasa and then using my picasa uploader application, and both have the same problem.
I'm not sure what that means.

  • Aperture not exporting changes made to photo

I am just getting into Aperture and have discovered this problem. When exporting a RAW photo to my desktop as a JPEG not all of the editing is coming through. It looks like everything but the 'sharpen' changes are appearing in the JPEG version.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

I like how the header says the question is answered. Almost cheerfully even. The question about how Aperture does not export changes has been answered.Yay!
I was delighted because in my hands Aperture DOES NOT EXPORT changes. Pictures I sharpened do not get exported that way. I can take a screen shot of the sharpened picture in Aperture, and the screen shot viewed in preview captures the sharpness. Any thing exported out of Aperture comes out EXACTLY as it went in.
And I am not alone. There are all kinds of posted solutions. I've read a lot of lies and mumbo jumbo about why it is. The truth is my version of Aperture does not EXPORT changes. So what is the answer???
I think the correct answer is the one on the page with the yellow star that indicates that the problem is a major flaw in the program and that Apple should FIX IT.
So.... then...when is that going to happen? Funny how they are dragging their feet on this. They won't even address it solidly... they just start blog pages, and forums, and stall, and stall, and stall.

  • Aperture 3 / Export Diaporama to Modify on Other Mac

    Hello everyone.
My workmate is finishing his version of an Aperture 3 diaporama on his Mac.
Is there a way we can export the whole diaporama from his machine and open it on my mac?
Our machines are quite similar, his is a 17 inch 2010 Macbookpro, and mine is the 2011 version of the same machine.
He's going have to leave town for a good while and I want to pick from where he left to finish the job on my computer. I hope my question is clear enough.
    Thanks a lot!

Do you mean a slide show?
Then I'd suggest to export the slide show as a new Aperture library and to copy this library to your Mac. When he returns, he can simply reimport the library into his library.
    To export the slide show:
Select the slide show in the Library Inspector panel
And in the Aperture Apllication menu select:
File -> Export -> Slideshow as New Library

  • Images adjusted in Aperture 3, exported as JPEG printing dark.

I have been exporting JPEG files to a professional print vendor and the prints I receive back are much darker than the images I am seeing in Aperture 3. On my screen, the Masters and Versions look great. The prints I get back look under exposed. I have friends who use this same print vendor with no problems adjusting their images in Lightroom. I have tried adjusting my display, through System Preferences to SRGB. no luck. I also created an export preset to adjust the print size to 8x10, that hasn't worked for me either.... Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.

You do need to adjust your display... in fact you need to calibrate your display.
The #1 cause of "prints too dark" is "monitor too bright." You need a setting in the 100-120 Cd/m^2 for your monitor. And there's really no way to get that without actually measuring it, using a hardware calibrator. Alternately you could try reducing your monitor to 50% brightness and see what you get, but it's sort of a waste... if you care about results, a hardware calibrator is the only option that's workable.
