Aperture 3 won't export at all: images held hostage

Complaining about Aperture 3 is almost pointless now with the mess the program is obviously in, but I encountered a rather distressing problem I hadn't seen reported yet.
I can't export anything. All of my photos are locked into Aperture. If I select any export option (say, Jpeg 50%) Aperture will start exporting it and never finish. It will sit there for hours if I let it. The file will never export. Activity viewer just shows Aperture attempting to export the image and never finishing. Basically, it's holding my images hostage.
The crashing and hangups I can deal with (for now), but if I can't export a photo the program is literally useless to me. If anybody knows a way to fix this issue, please help.

I have now solved my problem, and it only cost me a day :-|
I had a few corrupted master files. Aperture was running a task to process a lot of pictures, and whenever it was reaching such a corrupted file, the task would hang, and it would not be possible to start other tasks like exporting pictures.
That rebuilding the library helped temporarily was just because after a rebuild Aperture would spend some time updating Places information, before it would start the processing task that would then eventually hang.
I identified and deleted the corrupted pictures, which solved my problem. Finding the pictures was something that I had to do by hand, though.
Since the problem is usually not with the pictures that one is working with at the moment, but with completely unrelated pictures, one possibility is to export the current project as a library and then work with just that library.
So the problem was with corrupted files that I had in my library. Still I think that Aperture should handle a situation like this more gracefully. If a task hangs, it should be possible to learn which picture it is currently working on and to kill the task.

  • Web gallery syncing (Aperture 2)  - Why does it resend all images?

    Hi All,
I have a number of web galleries, many of which I like to continually update as I make new photos. But when, for instance, I want to add a single photo to a gallery that already contains 50 images, I tell it to synchronize the gallery, it uploads 51 images? Doesn't the word "synchronize" imply that it would just upload the new or changed images? Does anyone know if its behavior can be modified so it truly synchronizes? This would help me greatly because my aperture crashes a lot (a topic for another thread), and it kills my internet bandwidth for hours re-uploading gobloads of pics that are already in the galleries and have not changed. Thank you in advance for your help!

I wonder if an upload is taking place. I see it taking much less time. I believe that the file is being checked for changes, and if the file is unchanged, then Aperture moves on to the next file. This is only a guess, but seems like a reasonable explanation.
For my part, I made synchronization manual. With an old mini, it is cumbersome to wait for sync everyday. Hope this helps.

  • Aperture 3 won't export from "Faces"!?!

    Hi Guys,
I 99.9% sure this is a simple fix problem.
I have tagged someone in several hundred photos and now I want to export all those photos in one go. I go to
    Library > Faces > Alex > Select All > Shift-cmd E
    Nothing happens!
I get no warnings, no processing messages no error messages.
When I go to Library > Photos > The first photo > Shift-cmd E I get the export wizzard as normal.
    What am I doing wrong?

I don't know why your approach does not work - but as a work around:
    For me worked the following:
    Create a smart album
add a rule: face contains   "the name of your friend"
then select all pictures in your smart album
    and export them
I tried it in Aperture 3.1.3 and it worked fine

  • Was working in Aperture 3.2.4 and discovered all images missing...?

Help. I was working in Aperture 3.2.4 when all my images disappeared. Not sure what happened. I wasn't doing anything out of the ordinary when every image I had disappeared. I saw on some discussion forms that once that version of Aperture reaches 1000 images that this might happen. Had I read that prior to my misfortune, I wouldn't be in this predicament. I have a late 2006 iMac, using Snow Leopard (at the time). I tried to update Aperture 3.2.4, to no avail as I needed more memory. I have now installed more memory and upgraded to Lion. Still no pictures. Obvious answer - get images from your backup. Except I don't have a back up. Any ideas?

  • Aperture won't export all photos to Mail

Most of the time, Aperture won't export all my chosen photos to Mail. If I chose 8 photos, it may only export 4 of them and no matter what I do, nothing changes. Tried it on Entourage and it was exactly the same. Size is not the issue, I'm sending them in small sizes and the total attachment is about 1 MB. Anyone had this issue and know what to do? I do have NIK plug ins installed if that helps any.

I would suggest you do a library repair to see if that clears it up.

  • Aperture won't export : Retina MacBook Pro

I've been struggling with getting all sorts of basic stuff to work on my supposedly top spec 15" Retina MacBook Pro, the latest is that it can't seem to export from  Aperture.  Finder really slow, attaching files to emails takes ages to open etc - so wondering if it is part of this problem.
Has anyone else experienced this.  Obviously being a Pro App I'm going to be charged handsomly to talk to anyone at apple.
Occasionally it can export a single image at a time, the export folder location takes ages to open.  Select multiple images and select "Exprt Versions" and absolutely nothing happens.  Export originals, and it crashes Aperture. I'm begining to wonder just how far you can throw a MacBook Pro.
It really is the most disapointing Mac I have ever bought, lovely display, but if the computer behind it doesn't function its all a little pointless.
Done the usual reboot, disk permissions etc.
    Thanks for any pointers
    Stephen

    Stephen,
It is new (ish, about 90 days, and covered by Applecare) but calling Apple help - as I have previously - as soon as you mention it is Aperture they want to charge money - a lot of it and with no guarantee of results - to talk about any issues as it is a Pro App - pity it doesn't behave like one!
Finder really slow, attaching files to emails takes ages to open etc - so wondering if it is part of this problem.
I'd really let the Apple Store sort out the system and hardware issues, as long as your Applecare lasts.
Make a backup of your system, best a bootable clone on an external drive (so you can easily revert back to your current state, or run your apps  by booting into the clone) and reinstall the system without any third party apps and without Aperture, only the basic set of applications.
Then test your mail and Finder, and if issues remain, go back to AppleCare and present them with the proof, that it is the hardware and not the software.
You may find, that it is not Aperture at all, that is causing the problem, but an incompatible plug-in, kernel extension, "helper" applications, duplicate fonts, problems in the Aperture library inherited from iPhoto, incompatible videos in the Aperture library, an unsuitable drive hosting your Aperture Library. Where is the library located, btw? On an external or internal drive?

  • How to export all images that don't contain editable text

    Hi guys,
Is there any hack, script or general function to export all images from a PDF withouth them containing editable text?
For instance, i have a pdf that contains some scanned documents - these need exporting, i also have some tables in there that have editable text in them - these are being exported when i select export all images.
    Can anyone help?
    Cheers!

Search for a word or words in them as a group. Search for .pdf file type and containing....
Use a common word that they all might contain such as "a" or "the", etc.
The files that have been OCR'd will show up in the search. This won't catch 100% of them, but it will allow you to separate most of them.

  • Aperture won't export

since yesterday i encounter the same problem as some described before.
Aperture 'refuses' to export my foto's.
It keeps saying 'exporting' in the bottom of the screen and quitting the program is not posibble, the only solution is to perform a forced stop.
When i open the program afterwards there's a message where the prog advises to repair the library.  (which is not the solution to the problem)
any ideas how to fix this irritating bug? my OS is V 10.2.8 & i have the latest version of Aperture 3.4.1 (which appears to be useless now)
    thx for the feedback !

    my OS is V 10.2.8
You mean Mac OS 10.8.2, right?
Does Aperture hang when exporting any image, or does it only happen for some of your images? Are you trying to export versions or original images?
Sometimes Aperture hangs, when it is processing a single, corrupted image.
If the problem only occurs with certain images, remove them from your library, but if you are having this problem with all images, try the Aperture 3: Troubleshooting Basics
I'd start with removing Preferences and presets, and then try the other options.

  • Desktop can not see all images in aperture project

When trying to change the background picture desktop lists my aperture projects but only displays a subset (5 of 114) of the images in one project. Also have 2 of 8, 152 of 152, and 0 of 12 in different projects.

It's possible you don't have Previews for the "missing" images (Aperture shares the Preview, not the full image).
What happens if you update every image in the Project's Preview?
To update all the JPEG previews in a project
In the Library inspector, Control-click the project whose JPEG previews you want to update, then choose Update Previews from the shortcut menu.

  • I tried transferring my iphoto library from my old macbook onto my new macbook pro, but when i open the new iphoto, it seems to have transferred ALL images ever used on my old macbook.  now iphoto won't let me do anything to fix!!

i tried transferring my iphoto library from my old macbook onto my new macbook pro (via external hard drive), but when i open the new iphoto, it seems to have transferred ALL images ever used on my old macbook. so i tried to just delete all those images so i could try a different approach to transferring, but the new iphoto won't let me do anything and every time i try to delete anything it crashes (since the image amount is so high).  please help!!

See http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1229?viewlocale=en_US - I doubt that it will solve your problem, though. You may want to post on the iPhoto forum - that's where all of the iPhoto experts hang out.
    Good luck,

I can't export my video which contains only photos, sound tracks nor play it in fullscreen iMovie it shuts down. And now my whole file won't open at all it'll open with nothing inside ??

I also have Jolly's problem. I found the iMovie 9.0.9 folder and tried to launch the older version of iMove. It would not launch. I removed all of the iMovie preferences from the Preferences folder, removed iMove 10 from the applications folder, and restarted my Mac. iMove 9.0.9 still won't launch and I can't access my videos created with the older version of iMovie. Is there a way to uninstall iMovie 10 and reinstall iMovie 9.0.9?

  • Aperture - Export the edited images with changes

    Hello
I recently purchased Aperture and have a SLR camera (Pentax K-X) and a GPS logger (Holux M-241). I record my images in DNG format (Adobe RAW format).
I've tried to import my images into Aperture, where I've added commentary and edited my pictures. Now I would like to export my photos (originals), where I can either save images as "Include IPTC" or "Create IPTC4XMP sidecar file". I might have saved my comments, but the changes I've made the pictures are not appearing when I imported the images again from the folder where I have exported my edited images (related to exports, I have chosen "Create IPTC4XMP sidecar file "). Why can not I see my edited photos?
Is it not possible to save the XMP sidecar file as embedded in your DNG files, which I know you can do with Adobe Photoshop?

What you want to do is a contradiction in itself - in Aperture you either export the originals or the versions. The originals will give you exactly the original images that you imported, optionally with IPTC added annotions, but without edits.
If you want to export the edited image, you will have to render the edited version and to export a version, not an original. You have many presets for the format of the edited version to choose from, but not a raw format. The closest you can get will be exporting as tiff or psd original size.

  • Acrobat DC - export all images

In the previous version you could export all images in a pdf-document through the menu: Tools > Document Processing > Export All Images
Adobe Acrobat X Pro * Export images to another format
Is it still possible to do in Acrobat DC ?
    Thank you for any answer.

    Hi Aline ,
This is absolutely possible in Acrobat DC as well .
In Acrobat DC ,the procedure to navigate to Export PDF option is a two step method .
You could select the Export PDF option directly by choosing the Tools option .You will see a Export PDF option either on the right hand side or in the first row after you select tools .

  • Lightroom 4 won't export all my files and doesn't notify which ones it didn't

I have a large library and one day i wanted to make sure that none of the files were corupt so I thought of an idea to export my entire library to see if i get a notification if any of my files didn't export. I could then check on those files to see whats wrong. But trying to export that many images caused lightroom to crash so I exported by year instead. Some years were fine, but others like 2011 for example, out of 13906 images, only 9824 exported. I would be ok with that if lightroom notified me which images didn't export. Normaly, when i try to export images that are ofline, lightroom will tell me which ones didn't export and say that they can't be found. How am i supposed to find those 4000 images that didnt export if i don't know what there file names are? I tried exporting the previews as a catalog and all 13906 exported fine. I updated my dng previews and I even genereated new standard sized previews as well. I also ckecked for missing images under Library/Find Missing Photos, and there were none missing. Here are the type of files i was trying to export: DNG: 13017, jpeg: 9, PSD: 61, TIFF: 819. None were videos.
    Please Help!

Thanks for your reply. I don't necesarily think I have corrupt files, but i want o make sure i don't so that when i do a back up, the corupt file doesn't replace the good ones on my backup drive. I have over 100,000 images in my library and there is absolutely no way that i am going to scroll through all of those to look for an exclamation point. I wish lightroom could scan my whole library for any questionalable files.
I have tried to export known corrupt files where I could see an exclamation point or a large purples band, or both, and they don't export. Thats why i wanted to export my whole library to see if i can find any of those. But lightroom notifies me when they cant export. I don't know why it doenst say anyting now. Im glad you mentioned about the stacking, i didn't know about that, however, i don't used stacking, so that is not the issue. There might be 10 or 20 that i accidentally stacked, but not 4000.
