Aperture and Canon 5D mark II import problem: copyright and author metadata

After importing RAW images to Aperture, I missing my name and copyright info in metadata, everything els is there; lens, focal length, shutter sped... I try several methods from camera direct, from memory card, using EOS software to HD and to Aperture. Nothing works. Did anybody have same problem?

Ah. I didn't know that.
This type of information is defined typically in IPTC, not EXIF. Aperture probably ignores those EXIF fields; in general if it gets EXIF data it doesn't understand, I think it ignores it.
As to your other comment about making this data unmodifiable -- it's not really possible to make it immutable. EXIF in general is a lot harder to modify than IPTC, but unless the file is encrypted and self-checksumming, a person with a sector editor (or an application designed to change EXIF) will get around this.
I don't think there's yet a standard way to really "protect" full-sized image files, at least for JPEG or TIFF files.

i still cannot understand why it worked on the Dell Precision  M6600 but not the Dell Precision T5500
The Sony HXR-NX30P had no problems , it is automatically Imported by Windows.

  • Is there Camera RAW support for Lightroom 4.4 and Canon 7D Mark ii?

I need Camera RAW support for Lightroom 4.4 and Canon 7D Mark ii.  Is there a Camera RAW version for me?

Thanks for your help.  I checked out DNG on YouTube and understand more
about it.  I downloaded the DNG converter and transferred in files from my
camera.  Then I imported into Lightroom.  It works!   Thanks again.

If you go to Photoshop>About Plug-in and click on the words Camera Raw, what version does it list?
I suspect you still have Camera Raw 7.0
When you go to Help>Updates from within photoshop cs6, it says nothing available?

  • IPhoto '08 7.1.5 and Canon 5D Mark II

Hi -- iPhoto doesn't seem to be able to read the raw CR2 files from my canon 5D mark II ... Do I have to update something in iPhoto? I believe I am already at the latest version. Thanks for your help.

If you use Photoshop to edit the RAW file then yes, you'll have to save the edit as a new file and import into iPhoto.
If you use Photoshop to edit the jpg version of the photo that iPhoto creates when it imports a RAW file you will not have to save to the desktop and import as new file. Just follow the directions below in that case:
Using Photoshop (or Photoshop Elements) as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop. When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window that indicates that PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file. You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements 6 the Saving File preferences should be configured: "On First Save: Save Over Current File". Also I suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.
If you want to use both iPhoto's editing mode and PS without having to go back and forth to the Preference pane, once you've selected PS as your editor of choice, reset the Preferences back to "Open in main window". That will let you either edit in iPhoto (double click on the thumbnail) or in PS (Control-click on the thumbnail and seledt "Edit in external editor" in the Contextual menu). This way you get the best of both worlds
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Aperture 2 - Canon 5D Mark II raw files - Photoshop CS3

    Hello
I work with Aperture 2 and just bought the new Canon 5D Mark II. Unfortunately the raw files of this camera cannot be opened with PS CS3. As I cannot find an update quickly here in Morocco I need to find another solution fast.
With some help from the web I started to adjust the raw files in Aperture and exported them as TIFF. The problem I have now is that the picture of the exported TIFF file (or PSD) looks nice in the desktop finder preview but when I open it in PS CS3 the colors are very dull - very dull. What can I do? I really appreciate your help! Thank you very much.
    Sarosa

Check color settings in CS3 if color space is set to sRGB and your tiff or .psd is adobe 1998 or ProPhoto then they will look flat. If you want to change color space in Aperture under aperture in the menu bar choose presets- image export- then change the colorsync setting per preset.
To change settings in CS3 under edit in the menu bar goto color settings.
    :+)

  • Photoshop Elements 9 and Canon 5D Mark II raw files

Does the newest Elements now open the Canon 5D Mark II raw files?  I called their customer service number and the women I talked to seemed uncertain about it. I have CS5 at home, and of course, there is no problem opening those files. But at work, they only have Elements and the past versions wouldn't open these files.  Hoping the new version will.  THANKS FOR YOUR INPUT.

Yes photoshop elements 9 will open them.
Depending on which photoshop elements versions you have at work,
you may just have to update the camera raw plugin to open those files.

  • Canon 7D Mark II GPS Problem

Tried the GPS on a new 7D Mark II. The GPS symbol just kept blinking...did not connect.  I tried it again and let it blink for an hour...no connect.  I was wearing a Garmin GPS watch...it connected in about 3 minutes so I know there are satellites up there.
Canon said the GPS was defective, exchange the camera. I did that and when I left the camera shop, I turned GPS on...it connected on less than one minute. Ah, I said, probelm solved...but
Today I took Mark II for another walk, and guess what, the GPS symbol blinked but did not connect  Disabled and tried again several times...no connect.
Did I get two faulty cameras...or are others also having GPS no connect problems with the Mark II???
    Richard M, NYC

    Hi richlion!
    Thank you for the post.
Even when signal acquisition conditions are good, it can still take up to over 60 seconds to acquire a conneciton to the GPS satellite after you enable the GPS.  Until it makes the connection, the GPS indicator on the LCD will blink.  Once it is solid, it has made the connection and you can now shoot.

  • Lightroom 3 and Canon SX30 IS Photo transfer problem

Hello, I recently replaced my stolen SX20 IS with a SX30 IS and picked up Lightroom as well. I have novice experience on photoshop and more extensive experience with iPhoto. I am working with the the 3.4 version for Lightroom that I downloaded the update last night (8/8/11)
The problem is when I have tried importing the photos and video from the camera they are only seen as .JPEG and and a low quality .MVO formats. I have taken the photos in L setting which is 14MP 4320x3240 and the video in HD 1280x720. I checked them on the camera and they are saved as such, no mistakes in settings on the camera. I have systematically  searched the import options on Lightroom yet cannot find anything that adjusts the import file type. I know I will have to delete the photos from the library to get them to be recognized once I figure out how to save them as either RAW or TIFF, my prefered file types to work with. I just need to know how to get Lightroom to recognize them
    Any help would be appreciated

You cannot "save as" and change the format of the images that you import from your camera.  Lightroom simply imports what is there.  Lightroom WILL enable you to convert the raw images to DNG, but that is the only exception.  One of the options in Lightroom is to treat JPEG and raw images next to each other as separate images.  Unless you have that option selected, Lightroom will only display the JPEG image.  So check your preferences to see how you have that set.  As far as video files are concerned, Lightroom doesn't change the format of those either.  It's simply allows you to see those videos in the library, and then view them with your default movie viewer.

  • Canon 5D Mark II FCP Tutorial Video and FCP Plugin for Sonic Fire Pro 5.1

For those of you using Final Cut Pro 6 to edit 1080p video from the Canon EOS 5D Mark II, there is a video tutorial on lynda.com by Frank Rohmer entitled "Photography Video Workflow: Final Cut Pro + Canon 5D Mark II". I think it does a nice job of providing a workflow for FCP. YOu can view the introduction for free at this link: http://www.lynda.com/home/DisplayCourse.aspx?lpk2=48108.
There is a new plugin to allow Sonic Fire Pro 5.1 users to score their music directly from within Final Cut Pro and round-trip to Sonic Fire Pro 5.1. You can read about it and purchase it at: https://www.smartsound.com/sonicfire/finalcutpro.html.
I am just a satisfied user of both products and have no commercial link to either lynda.com or Smart Sound.

  • Final Cut PRo and Canon 5d Mark II Help Please

Hey guys working with HD video I shot with the Canon 5D Mark II. In playback on the time line the video appears jumpy and sticks at transition point between two clips. However when I output to a movie everything is fine. Just annoying in the editing process. Thanks

    Ray:
That cam I believe shoot h.264 video. That is a delivery format, not an editing format.
It needs to be converted to an HD editing format.
Try pro res or pro res HQ. Open the clips in the QT Pro player and export, or use Compressor.

  • Canon 5D MII raw import problems in LR3

My installation of LR3 will not import .CR2 raw files from the Canon 5D MII. My LR2 imports fine. What am I missing?

Are you importing them from a card reader, camera via cable, or from the hard drive?
If one of the first two, just try copying them to the hard drive and seeing if they'll import that way.  If they do, it's a clue as to why.

  • Lightroom 1.1 and canon 5d mark 11

lightroom 1.1 wont import files from my new canon 5d mark 11 - it tells me it does not support the colour? anyone know where can I find the plug-ins?

You don't need plug-ins for this. You have to upgrade to Lightroom 2.3. This will require a $99 upgrade fee. To access you file for free, you need to convert them to DNG with the free DNG Converter (at least version 5.2).
