Aperture and Keynote 6.0, aperture and Keynote 6.0

With the new Keynote , we don't have a direct use for aperture like the old version of keynote 5.3.
Someone have find how it's working with aperture?
Thank's

How is the new interface better?
It is muddled, obscure and requires multiple extra steps to get things done as well as eating up a large chunk of screen real estate.
The "full compatibility" does not extend to other versions of the iWork software, nor eMails. So really it is full compatability with itself.
Except not so much Pages for iCloud beta.
Apple has actually removed 90+ features from Pages 5 and what is left is not working that well. That is a heavy price to pay for a new interface, even if that interface actually did what it was claimed to do, make life easier for users.
This particular problem with .pages packages not being parseable by other server software also introduces a problem of the files themselves not being parseable by anything else wanting to see the content. Not exactly a good sign from a company that has just trashed the previous file format, after trashing that of the predecessor to iWork, AppleWorks and lots of other software before and since that.
But who wants to read their own files? Just look at that interface!

Help, I had aperture open and working on a image and did not have a battery in and bumped the power off. As a result it will not open my master, it is locked. when I try to open that Library  it says There was an error opening the database for the library. I have tried every thing. I updated the other libr but now it will not open the main to update. What do I do?

Try starting Aperture with the command and option keys held down.  You'll get 3 options.
Try each, starting at the top, in order, checking after each to see if it fixes the issue.

  • Backing up and Restoring a large Aperture library

One of our departments is looking to backup their Aperture library (170 Gb and growing). They would like to do an initial backup of everything, and then incrementally from that point. We tried using Retrospect it backed up fine although it took about 30 hours to do it, but when we tested the restore after the full back up a good portion of the photos were inaccessible.
We then backed up a small portion of the library and then tried a restore and all the photos are there.
    Any suggestions?
Does Vault allow for incremental backups?
    Thank for any help
    Denny

I simply copy Aperture Library file (approximately 76 Gb) on an external Hard disk (FW800).
Time of copying approximately 1 hour.
Thus backup copy works perfectly. I have one more Mac and Aperture (MacBook). I once a week copy Aperture Library file on MacBook, it as reserve working station for me, and also on some photos session I take MacBook with myself. Aperture (witch backup library from iMac) works on it fine.

  • I bought a new imac transfered my data via timemachine and now when i want to open aperture it asks for my serial and when i put it in it says that is your upgrade serial please put in your original serial which i have no idea what that would be box gone

i used time machine to reinstall all products on a new imac machine.   everything seems to be installed but when i open aperture it asks for my serial # and when i put it in it says that is your upgrade serial..  we want the original serial #.    that box is long gone,   how do i find that serial #

If you cannot find your original serial number, you will have to contact Apple with a proof of purchase, see these links:

  • Can I put an aperture library on a network drive and edit from multiple computers?

I have an Imac desktop and a macbook pro.  I want to be able to edit pictures from multiple computers.  If I simply put the aperture library on a network server drive in my home, can I edit the same aperture library from both the Imac and the macbook? Rather than always having to sit in my office making changes to files I would love to also be able to do this with my laptop sitting ont the couch or in the kitchen.  Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Get yourself a small portable external drive for your Aperture library.
An Aperture library needs to be on directly connected drive formatted MacOS Extended (Journaled). network access is not supported and can lead to data loss and library corruption.
See Apple's support document:  Use locally mounted Mac OS X Extended volumes for your Aperture library

  • Using Aperture with an external Hard Drive and my new camera (Nikon D300s)

I have an older MacBook pro- basically had option upgrade comp or camera- went with the new Nikon D300s... my pro was maxed out so a friend helped me transfer my library to my external Harddrive (had a tra- after transfer of my library looking at only 721mb left (just a few photos)) but here is the issue- we have it set up when i load my cards that they go right to the external- but two things happen- my raw photos show as 'unsupported format' AND I can't figure out how to edit.... seriously so frustrated I am ready to go with a micro-puker computer and photoshop... this is NUTS! any help... o and I run AP 2 and I ain't dumping any more money in apple until they can show me they are working again... this is eating my profits!

Well... I am going to say I am not ashamed to admit that I am not 100% sure. I basically gave my computer to my friend who is a computer guru as I was trying to download my first shoot with my new camera and I got a "not enough memory" message- and kinda freaked out.
I have a WD external HD so it is mac friendly-
I don't know how he moved it-- I know he said when he set it up to transfer it took close to 14 hours as it is USB (I know I can and should get a firewire port for it) - and to be truthful I don't know if it is referenced or managed. I know that I plug in the external and make sure it shows in on my computer then plug in my card reader and when i plug in my CF card... aperture opens and I set up a new project and it saves to the hard drive... yet is still showing on my aperture lib- so I am confused... and of course my "free" apple care ran out 6 months ago so I can't just call them or drive to denver and have them show me the solution... and I need one as I have a HUGE photo job in like 4 days

  • I am wondering what is the best way to merge a very large iphoto library (from my MBP) to my new iMac (which has a few hundred photos on it now), and then upgrade to Aperture?

I have about 50GB of photos on my old MBP iphoto library.
I have a new iMac with a few hundred photos that I've uploaded since I bought it last December.
The iMac is where I want to keep everything stored as my main photo library, and manage it with a new Aperture installation.
Before I go and do this, and possibly muck it all up,
I would like to figure out the proper steps.
I am not too familiar with how to transfer files in the first place, so any help for a beginner would be much appreciated.
Starting from how to safely move the files from the MBP to the iMac, if anyone could walk me through this process.
I've been searching around but I have a specific goal (with getting everything into Aperture) so I don't want to get crossed up.
    Thanks for your help!!

I have about 50GB of photos on my old MBP iphoto library.
To be able to merge your libraries, your Aperture version and iPhoto version must match. For basic reading see: Aperture 3.3: Using a unified photo library with iPhoto and Aperture
and Aperture 3.3: How to use Aperture to merge iPhoto libraries
Assuming you are running the latest Aperture and iPhoto versions:
Before merging libraries ensure that your iPhoto Library has no issues. While still on your old mac run the "library first aid tools" on your iPhoto Library. Hold down the key combination ⌥⌘ and double click your iPhoto Library, then select "Repair database".
Make sure you have a backup of your current Aperture Library and iPhoto library.
Do both macs have a FireWire port? Then you could connect your macs in Target Disk Mode:
See OS X Lion: Transfer files between two computers using target disk mode
This way your new mac could see your old mac as an external disk and you could copy directly between the macs.
Otherwise copy your iPhoto library by drag-and-drop to an external disk (on your old mac) and connect that disk to your new mac. Check, if the external drive is formatted for mac (MacOS X Extended (Journaled)). Otherwise reformat it, before you copy the iPhoto library to that drive.
When your iPhoto Library has been moved to your new Mac launch Aperture and use the command "File > Import > Library" from the main menu bar. If there are duplicates in the Aperture library (if you imported earlier from iPhoto) you may be prompted if you want to "Add" or "Merge". If you have lots of duplicates, pick "Merge", otherwise "Add".
Post back, if you need more detailed instructions.
    Good Luck.

  • I just bought a new iMac and only have the aperture cd, how do i install aperture 3 back to my new iMac

i just bought my new imac but i only have the aperture 3 cd and do not have a drive how do i install aperture 3 or where do i download from and then just insert the cd key.

You either burn a disk image of your CD (using Disk Utility) on a mac that still has a drive and transfer the disk image on a thumbs drive or network, or download the Aperture 3 Trial Installer.
Download it here Aperture 3.1 Trial
After running the Trial installer go immediately to Software update in the -menu, and only after updating to the most recent version launch Aperture and enter your registration code to unlock the Trial.  Then launch it by double clicking your Aperture Library or clicking the Aperture icon.

  • Moving aperture masters to external hard drive and changing to reference

I am using my iMac's internal drive to store manage my aperture masters and versions. I'm now up to 200 GB and aperture at times is running very slow . I believe i have to move my masters to an external harddrive but i'm not sure how and then once I do how do I convert to using reference files? ? In this configuration will using the vault feature stop backing up my masters if they are separated?

Thank you for your help. One question if I down load my masters directly to the external harddrive as you suggest and then import into Aperture as referenced files won't that mess up the hierarchy system that Aperture sets up. When I relocated all my masters to the external HD Aperture automatically set them up as specific folders corresponding to all of my projects in a well organized hierarchy if I haphazardly download first to the Hard drive and then import will this then be messed up? ie will I need to specifically organize how I do my original masters download to the Ext HD from my compact flash?

  • HT1040 I am just about to order a 92 page book in Aperture and have previewed the order and found that in the PFD file I get all the pages are now different. Double page spreads are now on 2 different pages when viewed in 2 up continuous mode in Adobe Rea

I am just about to order quite an expensive 92 page large size  book in Aperture & have used the Preview button and on viewing the book in the PDF using the 2 up continuous viewing mode  I find that the page arrangement is all wrong with double page spreads now on separate pages and all my carefully designed pages in the wrong places. Will the book actually get printed like this? Regards,Keith

How did you create the preview of the book? It will look exactly like shown, when you press "Buy Book", then "Preview Book". This will open the Preview of you book in the "Preview" application. Set this to "Two-page mode". Then you should be able to see your double page spreads correctly, like here:

  • Using Keynote with Podcast Capture and Dual Screens

    Hi everyone,
We are trying to use a dual screen setup to record some Keynote presentations using Podcast Capture (i.e Dual mode, with the Keynote presentation in one screen and the presenter in the other).
The problem we are having is that when in full screen mode, Keynote takes control of both displays, thus stopping the Podcast application from being displayed. Even if we switch off the Presenter Display on the second screen, the second screen turns black.
I know we can start and stop recording with hotkeys, but we would prefer to be able to see the Capture app in one window with the presentation full screen in the other.
Perhaps this is just an oversight on Apple's part, but I'm finding it hard to believe its not possible. If anyone else has a workaround then please share.
    Thanks.

Other applications are not visible when Keynote is playing back.  Keynote takes over control of the graphics system when playing back presentations to enable Keynote to display properly.
When I play back Keynote and I want to look at a second application, I use a second Mac.

  • After some updates, Aperture stops recognizing previously imported files, and rewrites video metadata dates.  How do I keep the from occurring?

I have been using Aperture since version 1 (to now, 3.x.x), and after some updates Aperture fails to recognize the files previously imported.  I have checked the selection box that says "Do not import duplicates" every time I import.  I have pics and videos dating back to 2001 in the Aperture dB.  Videos were imported once Ap started to support it.  (Well, the initial support was really bad...)  Anyway, those earlier video files all have the same date - now - thanks to Aperture changing the dates to 3/24/00.  The funny thing is, Aperture will not let me manually correct the dates.  To me, it seems that after every major update, the dB gets "reset" and forgets files already imported.  I'm not saying pics/vids imported in the last month, but say six months to five years or more.  Any help is greatly appreciated.
I do not think this matters, hoever, my Ap is set up with referenced original on an external drive.
    Thank you!

    WOW!
I'm REALLY impressed by your exhaustive and detailled description!
How long did it take to write? Sure longer than the import itself...
Thank you so much. I got a working import of Ap2 lib before but your description have me various hints for handling problematic or faulty projects.

  • How to change print size and DPI setting in Aperture

If I import a raw image from my camera (D2X) to Aperture and print the image at about 8"x10" through Aperture, it prints at about 300 DPI, if I change to size of the same image to 12"x18", in Aperture, it prints the image at about 166 DPI. I do not believe there is a way to change this in Aperture.
My question is, can I open the image at 8"x10" in PS, change the size and resolution to 12"x18" and 300 DPI then save it, open it again in Aperture and print it. If I do these things, will the image printed in Aperture still be 300 DPI and how can I check it to see if that is the case?
I have not been able to find the DPI setting anywhere in Aperture to confirm that it is what I want or need.

"You can make the pixels bigger by making the image larger but you can't add any more pixels without running some kind of interpolation filtration like GenuineFractals or a recomputation like bicubic."
Thank you for your explanation and that brings me exactly to the point of my question.
Can I interpolate my original NEF raw image after conversion by Aperture to a much larger image for print using something similar to what Photoshop does with it's bicubic smoother or as is done in genuine fractals or must I go out of Aperture and back if I want to print with Aperture. I am hoping you will tell me that Aperture is or will be capable of interpolating an image to a larger one with more than just the pixels supplied by the camera. I do not belive that these are not enough by themselves to print a quality image in a much larger size.
I may be wrong, but I believe that it is somewhat common practice to interpolate an image to get a greater resolution printed image at a size larger that what is possible with a resolution provided by the (D2x in my case) DSLR camera.
Or is this just a tempest in a teapot. In other words, will I be able to take the image out of the D2x (12.5 megapixels) and print a 13x 19" image with the same quality in Aperture (uninterpolated but enlarged) as an interpolated image in PS or Genuine Fractals and then in PS?
    Thank you

No, those are different apps... The one for your Mac is the computer version, and looks different. Both are developed for their separate OS's: iOS and OSX.

  • Can I present a keynote presentation using airplay and Apple TV? How do I set up airplay ?

Can I present a keynote presentation using airplay and Apple TV? How do I set up airplay ?

    Hi Andy,
You can do this reasonably easily.
First up you need to think about how you are going to drive the TV- Your iMac could do it, but a laptop would be easier if you can access one.
Second you need to look at the screen inputs. If it is a flat screen TV it is likely to have at least a VGA connection which you should have a connector to 'out of the box' and it will work much like connecting your mac to a projector would.
If not you'll probably need a connector for your mac that outputs composite (a single RCA connector) or S-Video to connect. You'll need to do this connection and find out the resolution the display supports before the big day (I live in a country with PAL which typically is 720x576). Make the Keynote presso the same resolution and you should be all good. A test drive is essential!
Here's a typical adapter from the Apple Store
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/M9267G/A?fnode=MTY1NDA5OQ&mco=MjE0NTg4NQ
Just as a thought- you could just burn a DVD with the images- it's pretty simple to set up (with transitions) a photo library in iDVD, though a little more tricky if you need the images to appear at certain times.
