Aperture and RAW support with Canon EOS 60D

Got my new Canon EOS 60D yesterday. But Aperture does not support the new RAW photos from the EOS 60D yet.
Anyone with the same problem?
When is Apple updating the RAW support for the 60D in Aperture?

Well, DNGs don't actually contain all the data of the original raw file, so that could be an issue.
As an example, the focus point functionality of Aperture 3.0 doesn't work with files converted to DNG, as the camera-specific information has been stripped from the file by Adobe. I don't know whether the DNG format can actually hold that info or not, but as of today it doesn't.
Apple historically has tended to support the new SLR cameras from Canon and Nikon, so I wouldn't be surprised if support came along shortly. That said, buying a camera the day it's available and expecting immediate support for its raw format is not all that reasonable. The vendors providing raw support don't necessarily have access to pre-release versions of the cameras (in general), so there's going to be some time necessary to develop and QA the support for the new format.

You could try using the DNG converter 8.7 on Windows vista:

  • Camera RAW Support for Canon EOS 50D

I'm trying to read RAW files from the new Canon EOS 50D in Photoshop. I have Camera RAW v4.5 which is stated to work with the previous 40D, but doesn't seem to work with the 50D...
Has anyone managed to read RAW files from an EOS 50D using Photoshop?
I'm on a Windows PC using Photoshop CS3 version 10.0 with the Camera RAW 4.5.0.175 plug in. I've also tried the DNG converter downloaded with that version of Camera RAW (same ver no.) to no avail.
    Help gratefully received!

    >Win: \Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-ins\CS3\File Formats\
is not present (or any near equivalent) on my PC.
If you don't have that exact location then the odds are that your Photoshop/Bridge CS3 install is wrong. The location listed is the correct location for XP and Vista 32 bit. If you have Vista 64, then there is a different location. But, if you have XP or Vista 32 and you don't have that exact location already, then you really need to check the CS3 install.
    > put the CameraRaw.8bi file into Programs/Adobe/CS3/Plug-ins/File Formats/.
And that's the WRONG place to put it...that location will ONLY allow Photoshop to access it, not Bridge. The Camera Raw plug-in MUST be installed in the CORRECT location for both Photoshop and Bridge.

  • RAW support for Canon EOS 70D in Lightroom 4.

I have LR 4 and now I have bought a Canon 70D.  Lightroom said it was unable to interpret the RAW files and directed me to get an update.  I have updated to 4.4 and still have the same problem.  How can I get my RAW files into Lightroom 4?

That camera was added in Lightroom 5.2. Download the trial version and give it a try. Then you can purchase from Adobe and they will send you a serial number. All you have to do is activate the trial version. The trial version will be 5.3, so your camera will be supported. You can use it for 30 days without restriction. You can purchase your serial number any time during that period.  You can install the trial version and try it without interfering with your present Lightroom installation at all. There is no risk, both versions run independently. You can remove Lightroom 4 whenever you decide to.

I uploaded the images from the card to my Pro (Aperture 3) and while the import info said 1500 images were uploaded, I can't find the RAW images.  Aperture put about 700 images in an untitled project folder, but all the images are the JPEGs.  What am I missing?

Have you checked your "Import" settings for "Raw&Jpeg" pairs in the "Import" panel?
You can set Aperture to import raw, jpeg, or raw&jpeg.
If you imported Raw&Jpeg, but have set Aperture to use the Jpeg as original, you will see the imported image as Jpeg image, not as a raw image, even if the raw has also been imported. You can switch between Raw and Jpeg originals for selected images from the Photos menu:
Photos > Use Raw as original.

  • Aperture support of CANON EOS 350D?

Could you please tell if Aperture supports CANON EOS 350D.
Please note that even if one would expect the CANON EOS 350D to be identical with the Digital Rebel XT they *are not* identical with regard to the latest I-Photo. I can't load photos in RAW format from CANON EOS 350D to the latest version of i-Photo even if you can do it with the US Canon
Digital Rebel XT! So, please tell me if I can take photos in RAW-format from my CANON EOS 350D to Aperture which I intend to buy if it is compatible. When is i-photo going to support raw format in CANON EOS 350D?
    Thanks!
    iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

    Hi,
I just came back from a Aperture seminar and I asked one of the Aperture presenters whether there was support for the 350D or not. He couldn't give me a clear answer to that and he was not aware that there was an american version of the camera called Digital Rebel XT and a european version called 350D where the Digital Rebel XT is supported by Aperture.
He did however say that Apple would continue to implement more raw file formats in Aperture as Canon opened the raw files for Apple. His advice was to contact Canon with regards to the 350D raw files.

    HELP!
    Geoff

Running Aperture Trial 3.1.2  all updates completed.
May have solved one problem & got another!
I can now import RAW images by selecting 'Raw' rather than 'Raw + L' on camera menu. This leaves me with all large files - potential future storage problem.  Looking into this.
    Thanks for reply though

  • How do you import photos from a Canon EOS 60d into Lightroom without distortion of photos?

Is there a plug in needed or how does one get the photos from Canon EOS camera into Lightroom?  My come through looking distorted and noisy.

    Ok, full story...
I have a Canon EOS 60D and was editing in DPP software that came with the camera.
I wanted more editing options so I bought Lightroom.
All of a sudden photos that look good at home were being sent to printer and I was being told they couldn't print them at all. If I take the exact same photo, import it into the DPP software and edit it to look good on my computer and send it to the same printer they print it with no issues.
I was selling on Deposit Photos some, now they won't even accept my photos the quality is so bad. But again, same photo edited in DPP they accept again.
THere are two issues I am having, the one going to the printer or deposit photos is they leave my computer looking bright and good to me and get to the other site so dark you can't see the photo at all.
The biggest issue I have been noticing is if I shoot with 200, 320 or 400 ISO, they look very fuzzy and I thought pixelated at first.  After reading forums with other Canon users having the same issue, people are saying it isn't true pixelation.  That the real problem is Lightroom not being able to intrepret the data so they look like there is a lot of noise and I have a bad picture.
Before reading forums, I had also emailed Canon to see if there was an issue with my camera.  This was Canon's reply.... If you are recording RAW image files, are you using the Canon software to convert them to jpg or a third party program?  Sometimes programs like Lightroom and Photoshop do not interpret the files correctly and the result could be noise or a colorshift.  Please make sure that you are using the latest version of the RAW plugin for which ever software application you are using, or try using the Digital Photo Professional software included on the EOS Solution disk.
I use Lightroom 4 and it has been updated regularly to the latest updates as they come out.
I shoot in RAW only and never shoot above 400 ISO, usually 160-320 range.
I have taken the same photos at 400 ISO and opened them in the DPP software and there is no noise at all, nice and clear.  I am only having this issue when I put them into Lightroom.
I would really prefer to edit in LIghtroom as you have a lot more creative options there but there has to be something I need to do that they work in Lightroom as they do in DPP.  I have also used NERO in the past with no issues.  The printer person I send to is accepting them in Photoshop.
Do I need to purchase some sort of plugin to have them work in Lightroom? Distortion was a bad choice of word, more fuzzy noise look then true distortion, sorry about that confusion.
    Thanks
    Ann

Hi! You seem to be good at this. today I purchased the Camera Connection Kit but it doesn't work with my old Canon EOS 350d. I've switched to 'PTP' but it doesn't work. When I go in to "pictures" and "Camera" I can't see any pictures. Do you have any idea why? Can it have somehing to do with that I don't have the newest IOS 5? ( I have iPad 2nd gen). Don't know if you need to know anything more, but I would really appreciate if you could try to help me!

Yes, that lens will work normally on the EOS 6D with all automatic functions intact. Any Canon lens labeled as "EF" will work on the 6D, but lenses labeled "EF-S" will have strong vignetting (darkening in the corners of the shot).
Actually... "EF-S" lenses will not even mount.  There's a lip on full-frame bodies designed to prevent EF-S lenses from being attached.  It's not just a question of heavy vignetting and severely degraded image quality at the edges of the frame -- there's a risk of the reflex mirror hitting the rear-most element on an EF-S lens (remember... full frame cameras require physically larger reflex mirrors).
Any "EF" lens can be used.  Any "EF-S" lens must not be used (and will not fit).  Also, there are a few special purpose lenses such as the MP-E and TS-E lenses which will work with the 6D as well.

  • I can't update my Photoshop CS3 in order to open pictures made with Canon Eos 60 D

I can't update my Photoshop CS3 in order to open pictures made with Canon Eos 60 D

It's not terrible even if you jump a few versions; the Adobe folks don't want change a good thing, so much of what one expects is still where you expect to find it from version to version.  A person who upgrades from Photoshop CS3 to CS6 will find the new Tabbed View, introduced first in CS4, and probably won't like it (at first), but it actually can grow on you.
With CS6 they've introduced this new "shape layer" abstraction of what was once a fill layer with a vector mask.  Beyond that, I suppose there must be 3D changes, though I haven't the experience to tell since Photoshop CS6 is the first version I've moved up to Extended with.  I admit, the 3D stuff is fun to play with.
Just to give you an idea of what I've been doing with Photoshop just this evening...  My collaborator and I have been photographing carbon stars - red giant stars whose atmosphere contains more carbon than oxygen, and which are strikingly red.  In this image the carbon star, SAO49477 is the red member of the close double just up-right of center.  The red stuff between the stars is glowing hydrogen gas, singly ionized by starlight to emit a deep red color.  Someday it will coalesce and make more stars.

  • I have a Canon Eos 60D

I own a Canon EOS 60D and want to know if an older Sony EMC-X200 microphone can be used to record and will these be compatible?

    There are options for this
You'll have to check the manual for what each one does.

6D requires lenses with an EF mount. You list your lens as an EF (the mount style) 24-85 zoom so yes it will work but it may not provide nice crisp images on such a modern high mpixel camera. The newer bodies show the weaknesses of older consumer grade lenses.
