Aperture and the new Mac Mini

I actually wonder if this new mac Mini could handle Aperture:
I currently have an iMac G5 2.1GHz and 128MB video card, with a firewire 400 external drive.
If I switch for the Mini with the 800 firewire connectivity and, say, the 256 MB shared graphics video , would I get an much better reactivity and speed ?

At the moment, the Aperture product page does not explicitly state that the software will run on the new mini with it's Nvidia integrated graphics system. It should, since while not highly recommended, it was capable of running on the Intel GMA950 of the prior model, but I think you'd need to check with the vendor (presumably Apple via phone or in-store) before purchase, just to be sure.
Assuming that it does run, you should find the system notably faster and more responsive than your current G5 iMac since the processor is a generation ahead in performance, and the system's bus speed etc are all faster. It would be wise to go for the highest RAM complement possible however, since that makes a considerable difference to operating speed as a whole.

  • Question about the new Mac Mini

I'm considering getting a Mac soon, I've considering my various options and the new Mac Mini has recently caught my eye.
    1. The higher end model now has a 6630M AMD GPU, if I also combine this with the i7 CPU and 8GB RAM upgrades, would this be a good viable option for gaming? The CPU would only be dual-core.
    2. Can the Mac Mini be connected with a new Macbook Air as use as an external monitor? Would Thunderbolt make this possible?
    Thanks in advance.

If you still have the crashed Win computer, you may be able to recover your music and movies from the hard drive. If you have a friend with a hard drive USB connection kit and a PC, they should be able to help.  Otherwise, check locally for computer services that might do that for you (I think Best Buy Geek Squad may be able to help). If the drive itself is in good shape, it shouldn't be too expensive.

Using 2 displays, connected via HDMI and thunderbolt
Been on to support a number of times now - is anyone experiencing the same issues?

    BUMP.
I actually showed this to Apple geniuses when I took my computer to the apple store, and it's still here. In console it says:
    kernel[0]: Previous Shutdown Cause: -128
I don't know if that's related or not, but maybe helps?

  • OSX Leopard in the new Mac Mini

Hello, I need a support for a question.
I can install mac osx leopard in the new Mac Mini.
My mac is the last versión of Mac Mini Server with OSX LION Server.
How I can install Mac Osx Leopard, the compatibilities with OSX LION are very bad with my programs.
this can be done in the new Mac Mini?

    Hola.
My mac mini is the version 5.3 of mid of the 2011.
Music hardware is working me a little better now, I think it has strengthened the stability and gives no error messages.
I afraid that I have become later unstable again .
    But now it works perfectly.
The new mac mini 5.x never can works with Leopard?
Also I am interesting for the version of Lion Golden Master, but I think that is for developers only?
You have a page of Golden Master in apple.com?
    Thanks

  • Can the new Mac Mini boot Snow Leopard from an external hard drive?

I currently boot my 2009 Mac Mini from a FW800 external drive with 10.6.8. If I just plug my external drive into a new 2011 Mac Mini, will it boot into Snow Leopard if I set it as the startup disk or will I get a kernel panic?

I bought a 2011 Mac Mini, which came with Lion installed. I thought maybe I could repartition it and have a Snow Leopard partition. So I repartitioned it (500gb split into two 250gb partitions). I named the new partition "SnowLeopard" just to make it easy for me to tell the difference.
I attached the external DVD and put in a Snow Leopard installer disc, holding down the C key so it would boot and install from that, but it just spun for awhile. Doesn't appear to work.
Then I read somewhere else that someone had managed to clone a copy of Snow Leopard onto an external drive and boot from that. In their situation they were talking about a MacBook, but the principle seemed sane.
So I rebooted, holding down the T key to put the Mac Mini into Target hard disk mode, and attached it via Firewire to another MacMini (circa 2008 or so, not sure of year, but it was upgraded last year to Snow Leopard and has been upgraded along and along). Then I used Carbon Copy Cloner to copy Snow Leopard (that is, the entire hard disk-- System and all applications and data) to my newer Mac Mini's "snow leopard" partition.
For yucks, when it was done cloning, I restarted the older Mac Mini, and had it boot from the newer Mac Mini's snow leopard partition--- it worked! To make it easy to tell the difference, I changed the desktop background to something completely different. I think I tried booting from Lion but I can't remember if that worked.
Then I rebooted the newer Mac Mini, which booted up in Lion, of course. Going into System Settings, I changed the startup disk to the "snow leopard" partition, and rebooted, and it booted up in Snow Leopard.
I have yet to test the applications on the Snow Leopard partition. Another problem has arisen.
Because with both of the Mac MInis being active on the network, they both had the same computer and user name. So I renamed the newer Mac Mini to something completely different, and changed the password.
Unfortunately, now I cannot change any other setting in the System Settings that requires a password. While the newer Snow Leopard lets me log in with the new user and new password, whenever I try to click the "lock" icon to change something, I'm prompted for a username and password. Apparently this is some different username and password than either the new or old username/password.
I've tried various combinations of both: new user/old password, old user/new password, old user/old password, etc.
So if you do what I've done, be careful about changing the username and password on your cloned computer. I think it may be wiser to create a new user and then delete the old cloned users. I may just have to re-clone the old Mac Mini to the new one again.
If anyone has any ideas about this password conundrum, please pass along!

  • Does the new mac mini have airplay

I have a late 2010 Mac Mini and I was looking into it the see if the new Mac Mini offered Airplay. If it did I would be looking to sell my old Mac Mini and purchase a new one sometime in the near future.

Yes it will. Any 2011 or newer Mac mini will support it.

Is the new mac mini $799 320GB HD a 7200 RPM or 5400?
Meaning is it actually bigger and faster than the $599 or just bigger?

I forgot where, but I read a website where they benchmarked that the 320GB was a bit faster due to having 2 platters. In real-world terms though I don't think most people would notice the speed difference.

  • Premiere Pro CC and the New Mac Pro (2014)

I'm expecting delivery soon of a new Mac Pro, nicely loaded, which I purchased mainly because of all the work I do with video. Yet, I read in a review that Adobe Premiere Pro isn't optimized to take advantage of the new Mac Pro, won't run faster, and I'm better off using Apple's Final Cut.
    1. Is this true?; and
    2. If so, will Premiere Pro be updated any time soon to run best on a 2014 Mac Pro?
My new Mac Pro will have the following configuration:
    3.5GHz 6-core with 12MB of L3 cache
    32GB (4x8GB) of 1866MHz DDR3 ECC
    1TB PCIe-based flash storage
Dual AMD FirePro D700 GPUs with 6GB of GDDR5 VRAM each

My main problem is that when i export using gpu open gl it crashes hard boot the mac pro. A 3 min timeline with 4k footage n a bunch of color grading.  I get lucky if the timeline is shorter. But i think it is a gpu issue n my mac must be fixed. Currently under apple tech support. N my case is unique. No one has had the same issue and that makes it harder for me to figure the isse and to apple figure the issue.
If i export using software only mercury then the export goes smoothe no mattrr how long. But that defeata the point of owning a mac pro with 2 GPUs

I have had my 12 core 2014 Mac Pro for a couple of weeks now, and I'm not very impressed with Premiere CC performance with 4K R3D on a 1920 x 1080 timeline.
I understand that there may be an update soon that will take adantage of the CPU's and GPU's when it comes to the complex task of de-bayering the R3D footage, but it's just not there now.
I get similar playback performance to what I experienced on my 09 Mac Pro tower.
Any insights on getting better playback performance in this scenario would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

  • Photoshop CC on the new Mac mini

Hi, Anyone know if I'll be ok running Photoshop CC on the new Mac mini.. it will be spec'd out with i7 processor, 16GB Ram and 256GB SSD. Thanks

It ought to do just fine. If you want the 3D features, video ram should be 512 MB or more, but the i7 should easily meet that requirement.

  • IPAD and the newest Mac Mini

    Hi all:
I am curious to know if the new Mac Mini would be able to sync and charge the iPad? I have one that is 4 years old and it does not allow this.
    Thanks,
    Dan

Your profile says "MacBook" and "Mac Pro". Both of these models (and all versions) have USB 2.0 ports. You have nothing to worry about. You will have to make sure one of your computers has Mac OS X 10.5.8 or newer, though. Here are the technical specifications for the original model Mac Pro that was sold through 2007:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP30
The keyboard that came with your Mac Pro has two USB 1.1 ports. As long as you plug the iPad into a port on the tower it will charge.

  • Intel HD Graphics 3000 processor on the new Mac Mini Server

Does the Intel HD Graphics 3000 processor on the new Mac Mini Server support 3D Monitors?
I'm in the process of purchasing a 3D LED Monitor (27" S27A950D Series 9 LED 3D Monitor) and would like to know if it will be fully compatible with the Intel HD Graphics 3000 processor that came with the Mac Mini Server (Mid 2011).
Will it be possible to play 3D Games and watch 3D movies with this graphics card?
Also, does the new Mac Mini Server come with 1st or 2nd Generation Intel Core Processor?

  • Should I get the new mac mini?

    Hi all
I am confused and would appreciate some advice. My current mac mini which is a late 2006 model it has 1.83 Ghz Intel Core Duo 1GB mem and 80 GIG HD and super drive, running 10.56, and a usb external 250 GIG HD.
I have the option of buying the new mac mini the:
    120GB Mac mini (MB463*/A) 320GB Mac mini (MB464*/A)
Processor 2.0GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
for an extra £169 which is $237.38 as I can sell my current mac mini for £305. I am wanting to know should I buy the new mac mini?
My needs for my mac mini is using Iworks, Safari, watching dvd's, listening to music and burning dvd's and music. I never really play any games at all.
I have apple care until March 2010 too. So I am just wondering if my current mac mini is going well for me. Shall i update for the extra features, or for my usage for what i use it for, my mac, shall i stay and just keep my current mac mini?
    Thanks in advance

by saying "media library," I meant the space where you keep your media files. Often case, people including myself keep all media files (movies, musics, etc) on an external hard dives.
time machine is a good, but it's not mirroring. by mirroring, you your computer sees two identical drives as one drive (not combined capacity, but as if there was only one of them connected to the machine). The computer writes exact same files to both drives so if one drive physically fails, your media files are safe in the other drive.
anyway, mirroring is only one of the many solutions to protect your files, and there is no singe solution that works perfectly and completely fail safe.
so my point is, instead of upgrading you mini, spend cash on storage space and its protections like backup drive and/or UPS (google for "Uninterruptible Power Supply") and such.

  • Does anybody know if the new mac mini introduced today will do hd audio bitstream?

I'm very interested in the new mac mini that has been unveiled today. I planned to buy one in the past but didn't because it seems that it couldn't do bitstreaming for hd audio (true-hd and dts-hd for example).
As I plan to use it as an htpc with xmbc so this is a feature that is important for me. For what I heard, the last generation of mac mini couldn't not because of the hardware but of a driver issue in mac os x. So I was wondering if that still the case.
    Thanks!

The previous model supported multi-channel audio via the HDMI but did not officially support HD audio.
However I seem to recall that XBMC for Mac had already managed to do this on the previous model Mac mini. For clarification since XBMC for Mac managed to do this it would appear the hardware already could do this but Apple have not provided built-in software support for this.
    See http://forums.plexapp.com/index.php/topic/42798-hd-audio-codec-support/
I could not find a similar statement saying Plex itself supports HD Audio bit-streaming via HDMI.
With regards to the new Mac mini I do not expect there to be any change. That is OS X itself will not support this, Plex will still not support this but I would still expect XBMC for Mac to support this.
PS. The MacBluRayPlayer I feel also does not support this.
