Aperture applying D7000 jpg WB to RAW previews--I do NOT have that selected

I have always, and still have, set Aperture to NOT apply jpeg settings to RAW previews. Now, with my new D7000, it is doing this no matter what I do. I have the Preview settings in Aperture preferences with the apply jpeg settings Unchecked.
I do NOT have this problem with my D90.
Any help resolving this would be greatly appreciated, as would anyone else experiencing this problem chiming in (in case there is an issue with the D7000 RAW conversion in Aperture 3)
I have the latest versions of Aperture, Mac Os 10, etc.

Chromey,
I am importing only RAW files. The setting I mentioned in Aperture is to allow it to use the settings for the imbedded jpeg to generate the previews in Aperture. RAWs have imbedded jpeg data, since even if you only shoot RAW in camera, there is a small jpeg that needs to be created for your camera LCD.
I think this setting is a red herring with respect to your problem. The setting you are chasing is only to allow Aperture to show you a preview quickly, *while it is importing*. I.e., before Aperture parses the 12MB RAW file, it can parse the first 40K of it and extract the embedded JPG to show you. If you were to walk away from your computer as soon as you hit "import" and then come back only after it was done, the setting would be meaningless.
The real issue is that Apple's RAW decoding is applying the white balance, as indicated in the metadata. There have been a couple threads recently about this sort of thing, but I cannot seem to find them right now. Interestingly, though, I think the other threads were questioning why Aperture was not applying some of the attributes to the RAW decoding for a particular camera.
I guess I do not know what the right answer is. I am actually very happy to be able to set white balance in my Canon XTi and have Aperture apply that setting.

  • Camera raw 8.6 does not have new preview features

Hi, I have just discovered that my version of Camera raw does not have the new preview features (the "Y" split) down the right corner.
I have seen in some tutorial video that the new preview tool look like this,
but my CR 8.6 still has the old preview tool like this,
I am not sure why that is, I am running CR 8.6 on a mac with Photoshop CS6, is the new preview feature only available for CC?
    Thank.

Yes, that is correct that photoshop cs6 and camera raw do not get the new features, just updated camera support.

  • Processing several images in a batch action to apply their individual auto camera raw auto setings individualy for each image selected.

    Hi,
I have a folder with several images that I want to apply Camera Raw auto settings to all of then according to their individual parameters.
When you open a single file in Camera Raw you can click on the "auto" option to make an start point correction for that image.
I want to select all images in a folder and apply this procedure to every selected file without having to open every file individually and clicking in the auto option.
Can this be done from Bridge CC 6.1.0.116?
Appreciate comments on the viability of this task

Auto Sync is functioning as expected, unless I choose Auto Tone first.
If I choose Auto Tone first, a small portion of the selected images will be updated, but most will not.
Lightroom's handling of auto-tone leaves something to be desired - I have a lot of experience with it, trying to make reliable develop-setting plugins which include auto-toning. Those plugins have a bewildering amount of logic - something like this: initiate auto-toning, check back to see if it has properly settled, issue the auto-toning again if it never seems to be properly settling... - usually it works out after a while, but even sometimes it never does, and generates an error: can't get auto-toning to settle across all photos.
The point of all this is that there are bugs in Lr's handling of auto-toning, as you are growing aware.
    Try this:
    * do the auto-toning, then let it percolate for a while.
    * then visit each photo at 1:1 (to force Lr to finalize settings...), and confirm auto-toning has settled...
Then try auto-syncing that preset (make sure process versions are all the same, and preset does NOT include auto-toning - I would leave process version OUT of your presets).
    Better?
I don't expect this is a workflow you'll want to do all the time, but as a test it might help shed some light on the problem.

  • In the camera raw filter I do not have the radial gradient filter

Using Windows, the camera raw filter version is 8.4.0.199.  There is no radial gradient filter icon, nor radial filter.  The gradient filter available will not convert to the radial filter.  Why?

CS6 is not CC, not by a long shot.
CS6 is Photoshop 13.x, while CC is Photoshop 14.x.  They're one major release apart.
If you're seeing it as a true Filter, then you're looking at Photoshop 14.x, aka Photoshop CC.

  • Applescript: open a JPG in Camera Raw

    Hi,
I am trying to open a jpg in Camera Raw unfortunately without success. The applescript command
    open <file> as Camera Raw
opens the jpg as a normal document and not within Camera Raw as I would have guessed. Is it even possible with applescript?
A workaround could be to make the open dialog appear so that the user selects the file and chooses Camera Raw as format manually (the photoshop preference to open all jpg in Camera Raw as default is not an option here). Unfortunately the command
    Photoshop open dialog
takes no arguments and defaults every time to the desktop folder from where the user has to navigate to the correct location. Is it possible to change the start location of that open dialog?
    Thanks in advance.

I hesitate to revive a thread from 2009, but I'm trying to do the same thing with CS 6.
I have the program set to open JPG and TIF files by default via the camera raw setting. However, I've tried various Applescript commands to do the same thing, and it always opens without the Camera Raw dialogue. I'd like to know what specific Applescript command I need to put in, please.
    Many thanks...

  • Preview List Does Not Appear through VPN

This is an issue that IT and I worked on for a couple of weeks that turned out to have a very simple cause and an easy solution, so I thought it might help others to post the experience here.
Environment:  Dreamweaver CS3 running on a decent laptop that sits in a docking station at work with two monitors and just sits in my lap as a laptop when working from home over a Cisco AnyConnect VPN connection.  I was trying to work from home for the first time, so it was not a case of something working before and then breaking--this issue was there all along.  The rights to the laptop are far less than Admin.  Using a strong wireless connection at home to a reliable cable ISP.
Symptoms:  DW works fine at the office, but when I would take my laptop home and connect via VPN, the synchronize behavior was different.  Whenever I would do a synchronize/get or a synchronize/put on a file or folder which I knew had been changed by my team-mate, the Preview window would not show up as expected, listing the files that would be changed.  My team-mate did not have this issue when working from home.  Interestingly, when I did a sync/get or sync/put on a folder or file that I knew had not changed, the behavior was normal and I'd see the usual pop-up saying there were no changes to sync, and asking if you want to see a list to sync manually.
Troubleshooting:  We did all kinds of troubleshooting with IT, including rebuilding my Adobe profile (renaming various Adobe folders in the file system and in the Windows registry to be automatically rebuilt by the program), comparing all DW settings with those of my team-mate who had no such problems working from home, pinging this server and that, adding the FTP and HTTP servers to my HOSTS file, bypassing my wifi router at home and plugging straight into the cable modem, running DW as an admin, and chasing down error messages in the Event Log.  My DW configuration mentioned something about firewall port 21, so I tried adding that to my router, hoping I was "opening" that port.  Nothing seemed to change the behavior of the Preview list not showing up when expected.
Cause:  Eventually I had an epiphany that turned out to be right.  The problem was that I have two monitors at work, and at home I just use the laptop screen.  Nothing was actually going wrong.  But if I last had that Preview list window on the secondary screen at work, it would not appear on the laptop screen at home.  And because the Preview list window does not get a Task Bar button, I couldn't tell that it was actually "appearing" in the nonexistent secondary screen.  When the File Activity process is going, its progress indicator will have a Task Bar button, so even if it "appears" on the nonexistent screen, you can right-click the Task Bar button, select Move, and then use the arrow keys to walk that window into the visible space.
So apparently the main DW window has code that tells it to appear on the lone screen if it was last used on a secondary screen that is now unavailable, because it always launches in a visible space.  The File Activity window does not have that code, but because it has a Task Bar button you can get around the issue and manually move it into the visible area.  The Preview list has neither a Task Bar button nor the code that keeps it from showing up on a nonexistent screen.  I'd say that qualifies as a bug, and perhaps it's not an issue in versions of DW that are newer than my CS3.
Solution:  At work, before shutting down for the day, make sure that all the DW-related windows are dragged over to the primary screen, and those positions will be remembered the next time you run DW.  Then when using the laptop by itself, everything will appear in the visible space.

    Under Window >Workspace Layouts
You can create two different, well, workspace layouts with your palettes and panels where you like them. Then you switch back and forth when you have both monitors or just the laptop. I'm pretty sure it remembers where everything pops up too. You could test that pretty easily though.

  • How can I open 100D RAW files in CS4, I have tried everything.

Hi guys, can someone please help me.  I am trying to open 100D RAW files in PS CS4.  I have tried so many things including downloading the plug in and even DNG converting but would rather be able to open RAW files direct and not have to convert everything to DNG anyway as it is time wasting.  Can someone please help!  Thanks, Jen.

    http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html
The 100D is supported from ACR 7.4, which was released shortly after the camera came on market. ACR 7.x requires Photoshop CS6 to run, and won't work in the by now very old Photoshop CS4.
So your only option is to convert to DNG and open those in ACR 5.x / PS CS4. (or upgrade, of course, but I take it you don't want that).
    EDIT: assuming Canon 100D.

  • Why does Aperture make D7000 RAW files Dark????????

Okay, i've been through a million different ways - files look GREAT, then you load them into Aperture and they look like sh*t.
And i finally figured out a way to PROVE that Aperture is screwing up my files! Here's what I did:
Transfered original RAW files from my Nikon D7000 to a folder on a hard drive.
    1. Photo Mechanic: Loaded a RAW file into photo mechanic, it looked nice - exactly like it looked on my camera screen, did absolute nothing to it, exported it as a JPG. It came out looking NICE! Nice soft colors, lots of subtleties, beautiful. Could be a little sharper, but I wanted to make absolutely NO adjustments - since the test was for overall color and image quality.
    2. Aperture: Loaded the exact same original RAW file into Aperture and it looked like crap! DARK, muddy, all the subtletiy is lost. I did Nothing to adjust it, exported it as a high quality JPG - it came out DARK and muddy. Ugly!
***????? So annoying!!! This happens over and over and over again.
It's YOU Aperture! Not me!! Not my files! Not my camera - which i've brought back to get checked countless times to see if something was wrong with the camera.
It's really annoying. You have to fix it! There are countless comments online about this same problem. FIX IT!!!!!!!
If you email me i'll attach the two sample files. I did NOTHING to adjust either of them in either program. This is just the crappy dark garbage that Aperture generates from perfectly beautiful RAW files from Nikon D7000 cameras.
    - please respond.

What happens if, as an experiment, you use Adobe DNG Converter to convert one of the D7000's NEFs into a DNG? Same result?

  • My Nikon D7000 obtains 14 bit raw images. Does Aperture 3 support 14 bit printing?

My Nikon D7000 obtains 14-bit raw images. Does Aperture 3 support 14 bit printing?

I am pretty sure ( ) that Aperture has had a 16-bit color workflow for several years.
Here is a printing hint from the User Manual:
Use a printer that supports 16-bit printing: If the image you’re printing is a high-resolution 16-bit file, using a printer that supports 16-bit printing results in smoother gradations.

  • Aperture does not import Nikon JPG files when RAW and JPG

I own a Nikon D2x that I download files to a Sony 40GB portable HD. When I shoot in RAW + JPG only the RAW file is imported when I connect the Sony HD to my Mac and import to Aperture.
If I open the Sony disk Icon on the Desktop, I can see both the RAW and the JPG. In fact I can finder copy both files to the Desktop with no problem.
Even when I connect the camera itself, the jpg files are not imported.
This makes me think I should just shoot in RAW and save the space on the memory card.
Why does Aperture not import the JPG files?

it does import them ... but only displays the RAW file ... if you drill down into the library package you will see them ...
here are threads dealiing with same issue ...
    http://discussions.apple.com/search.jspa?search=Go&q=RAW+JPEG

  • My 3.4.5 has ~ 35000 jpg masters.  I have set aperture not to create previews on import and have ensured "maintain previews" is not ticked.  Every time I start aperture it insists on creating previews for ~ 4300 images. Why?

Having had the previews created I selected all photos and "delete previews".  It did this quickly and no more previews being created.  Once aperture is closed and then re-opened aperture immediately sets about creating the previews for the same photos.  I don't understand why this should be happening.
This is occuring on my Mackbook Air (Aug 2012) which has 256 GB storage. I am fast running out of space as I am using "Managed Masters".  I intend to make the masters referenced by relocating them to an external HDD but before doing this would like to clear up this problem first. I keep my Vault on the external HDD and have Time Machine and Time Capsule.  When I have relocated the masters to the external HDD I intend that TM backs the external HDD to the TC.  I tink that I will use the second partition on the external HDD for Carbon Copy Cloner to back up the Mackbook Air.
Any help or advice warmly welcomed.

    Frank
    Many thanks for your input.
Following your advice I have selected all the projects individually and checked the status of Mantain Previews.  Some were indeed marked up for Mantail Preview so I have unmarked them.
I have also selected Photos and deleted  previews and also repeated this for My Projects.
Checking the Get Info for the Preview folder in Aperture Library in Finder this now tells me that I have zero bytes for 564 items.
Close and then reopen Aperture and it regenerates these564 previews in the blink of an eye.  I haven't been able to locate these photos yet.  I know there are about 120 in facebook and 10 in photostream but dont know where the rest are.
It seems the issue is not with Aperture but with myself and not understanding Aperture sufficiently well
Do you see the problem this way?

  • LR 2.3 applies a green tint to RAW image AFTER making adjustments

    Hi all,
Thanks for having this great forum, it looks like there is some great information here. I clicked around the LR threads and the FAQ but I haven't found anything applying particularly to my issue/question, though, and I'm hoping some of you can help me understand what is going on. .
I have read about LR changing the colorcast on import, however in my case the images look fine after importing and processing. When I click BACK to an image that I have already processed, I am seeing LR 2.3 apply a green tint to it, and I have no idea why.
    What I am doing:
-Import Canon RAW files into LR collection (images look fine, no abnormal colorcast)
    Develop tab:
-I can click around the collection and view the images without any colors changing
-Process an image to my heart's content (image color still looks fine)
-Click to the next image and process the next one
-Mouse-over on the previously processed image on the bottom filmstrip, and preview shows up on the Navigator pane (preview looks as the image was edited previously)
-if I click to a previously processed image in the filmstrip, it will load into the center pane
-while the processed image loads here, the green tint gets applied to the image
-Color tint/green saturation has not moved from its previous position (even if it was moved during initial processing)
-In order to correct it, I either have to adjust the color tint slider about 20 points away from green, or dial down the green saturation to compensate.
Once I re-correct the image, I can click back to it again, and the mysterious green tint will no longer re-apply itself on this image.
This happens to most if not all of the images in the collection. I have only processed one other RAW collection in LR, but I did not have this issue.
I dont know what exactly is being changed to result in this green tint applying on its own, so I'm not sure if the adjustments I'm making are correcting it.fully.
I hope I'm detailed enough in explaining what I'm seeing, and that it makes some kind of sense.
Does anyone know what is going on here?
    Thank you!

Hi John, thanks for the reply.
Thanks, I'll look into the preferences in LR, although everything has remained mostly in its default settings. I've loaded JPG collections without seeing this either.
Would monitor profiles matter in my case? I ask because I am simply clicking back to a previous picture in the strip. When I leave the picture it looks fine, and returning to it shows that image but with the green tint. I haven't gotten to the point of exporting/converting the image, or anything further.
Some more information if it helps:
    Using MS Vista
    Using Canon Rebel XTi 400D
I copy only the raw files from the memory card to a folder, and then point the LR Import to that folder.
I will try replicating the issue on another computer in hopes to narrow it down. I am baffled.

  • Aperture 3 on a MacBook Pro RAW conversion (5d mark II) to JPEG

I work as a professional wedding photographer and just upgraded to Aperture 3. The very first wedding I just exported to JPEG took over 47 hours to convert 820 images. I read somewhere that there is a "glitch" with the 5d Mark II and RAW files and I've done all the memory/safe mode reboots. Is there a fix because I have another wedding to work on and I don't want to upload it to version 3 if it is going to take forever to export the files. Please help.

I've found the fastest way to export to jpg is to select the pix you want in AP3, then just drag them to a folder on the desktop. Its extremely fast.
This uses the Previews that Aperture creates. The size of these Previews can be changed in the Preferences pane.

  • HT5252 I tried to change my metadata date and got this   Aperture was not able to adjust the date and time of the original file "01769_p_h13ajyrm4bm0944.jpg" because it is locked or you do not have permission to modify it.

I tried to change the metadata date.  It changed the date on my photo, but when I checked the box that said "also change my original file", it gave me this error message.
Unable to change original file.  Aperture was not able to adjust the date and time of the original file “01769_p_h13ajyrm4bm0944.jpg” because it is locked or you do not have permission to modify it.
    Wassup?

What is your Aperture version? The older versions of Aperture 3 had a problem to apply Metadata changes to the original file.
If you are using the current version Aperture 3.4.5, try to repair the permissions on your Aperture library, if you have not already done so:
Launch Aperture with the key combination ⌥⌘ held down and select "Repair Permissions" from the First Aid PAnel, that will appear.
If that does not help, post back with more information on your original files - are the referenced or managed? Where is your Aperture library located? Since when do you have this problem? And what did you do directly before noticed the problem for the first time?

No, but you can develop a preset to closely match what the camera does to the JPEG that you like and apply it on import.
