Aperture applying unwanted adjustments when loading an image

Hello,
I'm having a bit of an issue with Aperture and I'm wondering if the community can help me.
My camera is a Canon Eos 600D.
I'm running Aperture 3.4.3 on a Mid 2010 iMac 27", with 8GB of Ram.
Just lately, when I import and load images into Aperture, it seems to be applying unwanted adjustments to the photos just after it completes loading them.
Let me explain further:
I take pictures on the camera. Previewing them on the Canon they look as I would expect, and I'm happy with them.
I insert the SD card from the camera into the Mac, and Aperture previews/shows the thumbnails of my photos, and they look just like they did on the camera.
I import them into a given library.
When viewing the thumbnails of the imported images in the library, they look the same, so I double click one to load it fullscreen. The image appears fullscreen, looking exactly as it did on the camera, and Aperture pops the word 'Loading' at the top of the image.
Them when it finishes 'Loading', it seems to apply some unwanted adjustments to the photo. Mostly it applies a yellow wash to the image, and in some cases, it radically adjusts the levels.
See examples below:
This was what the image looked like after it had loaded:
And this is what it should have looked like (I had to edit it BACK to what it had looked like on the camera).
I should note that once Aperture has seemingly applied these unwanted adjustments, there is no way to undo them - 'Revert to Original' does nothing as as far as Aperture is concerned, this is the original image.
Again, notice what happens when I quick preview an image:
But when I switch out of Quick Preview, these unwanted adjustments are applied:
Please, can anyone help out with this - it's driving me crazy.
Is there a way of seeing what Aperture might be doing/applying behind the scenes? I've checked Preferences but can't see anything obvious.
Many thanks in advance.

Are you shooting raw?
Aperture is not doing any adjustments after import. Probably you have set your camera to do adjustments and you are using in-camera adjustment settings, like D-Lighting. These in-camera adjustments are reflected in the camera generated preview, that you are seeing when you are importing the image. After that, when you are opening the image, Aperture will create its own preview from the naked raw image. And that what you will see in the viewer. This preview shows exactly what your raw image is like, without any adjustments done by the camera. If you want the image processing results from the camera and not the original raw image as recorded by the camera from the sensor, import jpeg and not raw.
See this discussion: TA24505 Why do d600 raw's look totally different than the jpg's that are imported together. When I select a raw, it looks as if it gets adjusted, but I can't figure out why...

    Hello,

    Can you store multiple images in memory and be able
    to reference them all individually, or is it better
    to store them in a construct, such as an array and
    then loop through that when attempting to match?I'm sorry but I don't understand the question. And does it
    have anything to do with images per se? Can it be generalized
    without losing its meaning:
    Can you store multiple objects in memory and be able
    to reference them all individually, or is it better
    to store them in a construct, such as an array and
    then loop through that when attempting to match?It seems to me that multiple objects should be stored in
    an appropriate collection, if that is what is required.
    Perhaps you need to say more about what you are trying to
    do, what your goal is, to make your question meaningful.

    Hello Robertgamble,
    It looks to me like your Java program cannot get access to the files that you are trying to access. If you are running these on a Unix computer, make sure that all file permissions are set to read access. You can use the:
    chmod 744 "filename"
    or you can change the "744" to any other access permissions desired to access the file.
    If you are running this on a Windows systems, make sure that you are accessing the image from the correct path on your system.
    Hope this helps,

  • Set "Referer" when loading an Image through Toolkit

    To load an Image using an HttpURLConnection, I use the abstract java.awt.Toolkit.getImage(URL url) method, which is implemented by sun.awt.windows.WToolkit. This method uses the HttpURLConnection to load the Image.
    The problem I have, is that I don't know how I can set the HTTP "Referer" request header. There is a method in the HttpURLConnection called setRequestProperty(String key, String value), which I could use, but I can't reach the HttpURLConnection being used to load the Image.
    I would consider another way to load Images, but that would mean quite a bit of refactoring. I would prefer not to use Reflection, though.

    I did look at the HttpsURLConnection (of which we also have our own implementation), but that still doesn't solve the problem, unfortunately.
    Is there maybe another way to load an image from an HttpURLConnection or HttpsURLConnection? If there's a way that I can provide or access the connection being used and still get an Image object, I would be a happy man!

  • Blank window when loading an image

    Hello,
    I'm new on Javafx, i've written the following example for loading an image, but it does not work.
    Here is the code
    <code>
    public class Load_Image extends Application {
    * @param args the command line arguments
    public static void main(String[] args) {
    launch(args);
    @Override
    public void start(Stage primaryStage) {
    Rectangle rec = new Rectangle(200, 400);
    ImageView iv = new ImageView(
    new Image(getClass().getResourceAsStream("image.png")));
    iv.setFitHeight(rec.getHeight());
    iv.setFitWidth(rec.getWidth());
    StackPane root = new StackPane();
    root.getChildren().add(iv);
    primaryStage.setScene(new Scene(root, 300, 250));
    primaryStage.show();
    </code>

    I'm sure there is a theoretical limit, but it should be large enough to hold anything you are likely to use.
    Can you open the image in other programs? Does [url http://docs.oracle.com/javafx/2.0/api/javafx/scene/image/Image.html#isError%28%29]Image.isError() return true? And where exactly have you placed the image?

  • Scrollbar resets to top when loading new images

    Hi,
    When viewing an email (in Apple Mail, of course) that has several images, the scrollbar will reset to the top of the email every time an image finishes loading. It's really annoying, as I'd like to be able to scroll through the email as images are loading.
    Thoughts/ideas? I don't recall this being an issue before Snow Leopard.
    Seems like I've even had it happen in Safari under certain circumstances, though I haven't identified the cause in that case.

    Hello,
    i have the same problem and i need a solution. The Problem apears while images loading from external servers.

  • PS5 crashes when loading an image to edit from LR3

    I'm using LR3 and PS5 in my workflow.  When in LR3 I try to "edit in Adobe Photoshop CS5" (CTRL +e) CS5 launches, I then get the "reading camera RAW format" dialogue, and when it finishes I get the Windows "Adobe Photoshop CS5 has encountered a problem and needs to close" dialogue.  I can open the same image from within CS5 directly no problem, or open it to CS5 from Bridge.
    Does anyone know the fix for this?  Is it a known problem with Adobe are working on?
    I'm running Windows XP SP3 on a PC with 3GB of memory.
    Thanks in anticipation,

    Go into your editor settings in Lightroom and see if there's anything amiss. Also, export a photo using those settings and try to edit using CS5 independent of Lightroom.

  • When loading large number of images, images begin to fail to load in IE11 with DOM: 7009 error (unable to decode) in console

    When loading many images on a single page in IE (reproduced in IE11), some of them begin to fail to load, and have something similar to the following warning in the console:
    DOM7009: Unable to decode image at URL: '[some unique url]'.
    When I look at the network traffic, there does appear to valid responses received for each of these images from the server. It's not always the same images each time. If I use the dev tools to force the image to reload (example: I update the url to include some some extraneous url parameter "&test=1"), it loads/renders normally without error. I've reproduced this behavior with different types of images (jpegs/pngs; example png included below). Apologies for the cross-posting. I wasn't sure what the particular etiquette was for that - I've also posted this issue on StackOverflow and MS Connect under the same title. If one of those is a more appropriate place for this matter, please let me know and I'll close this issue.

    yup, i have encountered this problem as well. I'm loading an array of image frames for a movie, and i'm using preloadJS (javascript preloading library) and not displaying the images upfront.

  • GPU Mode crash when using 1024x1024px images on iPad Retina with cacheAsBitmapMatrix

    So I am building a menu for a mobile app and I have created a sliding menu with tiles, I have done this before, all works great normally.
    This time, my tiles were really close to the power of 2 ( 1024x1024px ) so I decided to use that size and resize my tiles to that for performance gains.
    So the setup is this:
    GPU Mode active, 7 movieclips with 3 frames each, PNG images in those movieclips sized at 1024x1024px. So that's 21 png images.
    I need to use the cacheAsBitmapMatrix feature for full smooth performance and when I do, it crashes on the Retina device when loading 1024x1024px images.
    On non-retina devices I load the lower resolution assets ( 512x512px) and that works perfectly fine with the cacheAsBitmapMatrix on. On the iPad 1 it runs super smooth.
    So I started playing around with the different render modes:
    No crashing on CPU mode and no crashing on DIRECT mode, only on GPU setting.
    The retina device is NOT out of memory, it does not do anything really heavy. It just loads in these movieclips in a sliding menu, and tweens their alpha, scaleX and scaleY ( which is not part of the issue as it crashes without this too ).
    In summary:
    1024x1024px images inside of movieclip containers crash an iPad Retina device when using cacheAsBitmapMatrix.
    The fix I have found is to just lower the image size a tiny bit: from 1024px to 1016px, it resolves the crash and makes everything work perfect.
    So, what do you guys think this could be? I tried with previous versions of AIR (3.7,3.8) and it happens on those versions too. I am using the latest beta of AIR 3.9.

    I have not had that happen to me, so I can only speculate, but here are some questions that might help us narrow down the problem.
    1. Were the slides created on your ipad, or did you create the presentation on your mac/pc & then import it onto the ipad for presenting?
    2. You said When not using Keynote projected images are sharp." Does that mean that the same images used in the presentation display fine on the same projector when you open them in Phoots or another app?
    3. Is it only the images on the slide that are compressed, or does it impact text as well?
    If you run the presentation on your ipad, not connected to any outside screens, dothe pictures show up normally, or are they compressed then as well?
    Like I said, I havent' had this happen to me. My first guess (without knowing any of the details) is that maybe the presentation was created on another device & it was not set to display as 1024 x 768, but at some other aspect ratio, and since that it what the iPad displays at, it is compressing the slides to fit.

  • Was working in Aperture 3.2.4 and discovered all images missing...?

    Help. I was working in Aperture 3.2.4 when all my images disappeared. Not sure what happened. I wasn't doing anything out of the ordinary when every image I had disappeared. I saw on some discussion forms that once that version of Aperture reaches 1000 images that this might happen. Had I read that prior to my misfortune, I wouldn't be in this predicament. I have a late 2006 iMac, using Snow Leopard (at the time). I tried to update Aperture 3.2.4, to no avail as I needed more memory. I have now installed more memory and upgraded to Lion. Still no pictures. Obvious answer - get images from your backup. Except I don't have a back up. Any ideas?

  • How do I stop camera raw automatically applying contrast and brightness when I load an image?

    Everytime I load an image in photoshop or camera raw from bridge it automatically applies 50% brightness and 25% contrast and 5% black fill. It's ruining the pictures. I have already tried resetting photoshop and bridge to their default settings using cntrl, shift, delete. Any ideas?

    I think you have posted your question in the wrong forum. This is the Acorbat Windows forum and not one of the image processing forums. Acrobat does not use the ACR plugin.

  • How to hide the file name (the bizarre number assigned by the camera) when exporting an image version in aperture from an album. Pl understand I want to keep the file name in the project library version.

    how to hide the file name (the bizarre number assigned by the camera) when exporting an image version in aperture from an album. Pl understand I want to keep the file name in the project library version.

    Within Aperture you have Images, which are constructed on-the-fly from two files (the Master and the Version).  You get an image-format file _only_ when you export an Image.  You select the file name (usually a scheme) when you create an image-format file (that is, when you export).  Look under "Aperture→Presets→File Naming" for built-in Presets.  You can, of course, create your own or customize any provided.
    The Preset is applied to only the file newly created by your "export" command.  It is not applied to the Image in Aperture (unless you rename your Versions or your Masters).

  • Aperture 3.4.5 loading "erased" images

    When I insert my Lexar CF 8GB card into the Samdisk reader, Aperture 3.4.5 will load some of the images that I just erased (formatted the camera) from my Nikon D200. I see one or two of the new photos, but that's it. When I try to load into the new version of iPhoto (9.5.1) NONE of the old photos appear, and ALL of the new photos appear just fine. What can I do to fix Aperture? Thanks.
    <Email Edited By Host>

    I tried Andy's suggestion before I read your reply. Tried importing with new images after "erase all" and reformatting the card. This time the import reads 5 of the old photos and none of the new. iPhoto reads all of the new and none of the old. Thanks for the help. I'm open to other suggestions. BTW, Aperture has always imported my new photos (until today), but I did notice that it has, in the past, occasionally read a few old photos that I had deleted, using the "Format" command on the D200. I don't have any presets that would exclude any images. It's exactly as it has been for the last year.
    I tried it with two other CF cards. Here's a summary:
    !st try: Aperture read a few old and some of the new images from both cards; iPhoto read all NEW images on both cards and NO old images.
    2nd try: Aperture read ALL new images on both cards and NO old images. Same for iPhoto.
    3rd try: Same for both Aperture and iPhoto
    4th try: Same for both Aperture and iPhoto
    I thought I had worked through the Aperture glitch, but then I tried inserting the 8GB card (the one with the original troubles). Aperture brought up 5 images FROM ONE OF THE OTHER CARDS! And NONE of the new images. iPhoto (and the Finder) see ONLY new images on this 8GB card. Any ideas?

  • Keeping Photoshop Raw Image Adjustments When Images Are Imported

    I've got a bunch of raw images that have been adjusted in Photoshop. When these raw images are imported into Aperture, all the data stored in the .xmp files are stripped out, meaning the raw files are imported without any adjustments. Is there a way to import raw images so they retain the adjustments that have been made in Photoshop? I hope so. The idea of importing all my raw files into Aperture and having to readjust every single image is unthinkable.

    With all due respect, I do "want" desperately to be able to use Aperture as a RAW converter-good workflow.
    Sure... different meanings of "want". I "want" Aperture to be usable for that, but in its present state, you don't "want" to use it, because it's not very good at it. I tried a number of different pictures; it ranges from "okay" to "astoundingly bad", depending on the subject matter. In no case does it approach Adobe Camera Raw in quality; but it is not hideous in all cases.
    Take a bunch of your own pictures and burn them to a CD, both RAW files and edited versions. Bring the CD to an Apple Store, sit down, and have a go at Aperture. In my case, it was the final thing that saved me the money of buying the software.
    As a "better iPhoto" I think it's a winner. But it is, by no stretch of the imagination, a "professional" photography application. If it were a $50 replacement for iPhoto I'd probably have already bought it. It could be useful from an organization standpoint -- except for the fact that it can't read many of my Photoshop PSD files at all since they are in LAB color mode.

  • Photoshop crashes when loading a file or image

    Using Photoshop cs3 on a PC with Windows 7 installed.
    Major Problem: Photoshop gives no response when opening an image of any sort or psd file which ends out with the options to either close the program or close and find a solution online which gives no solution whatsoever.
    PScs3 was working just fine when installed but after installing an NVIDIA plug-in did it start bearing some problems. When loading png files, a window normally appears telling me that Photoshop could not parse the file. After seeing this I went to uninstall the plug-in. The problem seemed to went away but shortly after was Photoshop crashing at random, and I do mean random. Starting Photoshop at first seems to nullify the chances of crashing but after either a short period of time or a long period of time will it crash when trying to open a file. Opening multiple files at once doesn't work either but when opening only one file into PScs3 will it cooperate until opening a second. I'm not sure if the plug-in is what caused the problem but I do know everything from there seems hectic. Every crash leads me opening PScs3 again with all of its settings reset from when I first exited normally.
    Plugin Used:
    Photoshop_Plugins_8.23.1101.1715
    Appications Type; 4,317 KB
    Company - InstallShield Softwere Corporation
    Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the program?
    Unfortunetly yes I have attempted this and the problem still occurs towards cs3. This makes me fear that the entire program is glitched.
    Do you have any other plug-ins installed?
    I've checked and there are no other plug-ins attatched.
    This is my last option before seeing to reformat my computer. If there is any input about the topic, now is the time.

    Just a hunch: change your default printer to something else (a locally attached printer, not networked) or "PrintToPDF", then relaunch Photoshop and try again.
    It could also be a plugin (try disabling ALL third party plugins).
    And it could be a bad OS install, a virus, etc.  It may take a while to find.
