Aperture as a Video Manager

I realize Aperture was designed primarily to archive photos, but how well does it too with videos. I have thousand of video clips. Since I am very familiar with Aperture and just upgraded to Aperture 3, it would be nice if I could use it too manage all my videos as well. Anyone see a problem with this? Any suggestions? I do not want to learn Adobe Bridge or Final Cut Server.

Hi Brian,
The issue as I see it is the storage required if you were to put long form video files in Aperture would be massive, and impact the still image storage because of the volume of data compared to stills.
Frankly, while it is a great feature for small clips and delivering slide show that include some video, it is far too simplistic to make it the sole repository of footage, unless it is just all small clips that don't require editing or massaging with FCP-style tools. You can't do very much but trim and edit video in A3.
Final Cut Server is designed to be a multiuser hub for assets, and in video that means storing thumbnails of offline media, and making a media list when you go to assemble a project. Then you have to load the drives containing the original footage into the system so it can assemble the final product. Most companies would have only the common media and most recent content live in the server, long term cataloging will require a library of offline media that gets retrieved and plugged in to finish a long form work.
Sincerely,
K.J. Doyle

  • I imported some 24P HD videos from my DSLR to Aperture but these videos do not show up in iMovie '09 for editing purposes. Although my previous 24P HD Videos from iPhoto '09 show up. Why can't I access these videos stored in Aperture library?

I imported some 24P HD videos from my DSLR to Aperture but these videos do not show up in iMovie '09 for editing purposes. Although my previous 24P HD Videos from iPhoto '09 show up. Why can't I access these videos stored in Aperture library? I assumed that like  the videos in iPhoto, I would be able to access the videos in Aperture through iMovie. Come on Apple! I am starting to get frustrated with your products here. And this is saying a lot when I have been using and loving apple products for the last 4 years.

Hi. My camera is a Canon 600D. And yes my videos are stored in the Aperture library and they are not referenced. Even then I tried to select all the videos in Aperture and clicked 'consolidate masters' and there was a messge that said all 'none of the files are referenced',... so they didn't need consolidating.
I also tried preferences> export> external video editor > choose > iMovie. And then right click on the video to edit with imovie. Even then the video didn't show up in iMovie. It seems like the only option for me is to import the videos directly to iMovie which means there will be two versions of the same file stored in my computer eating up space.
    APPLE. What are you doing?

  • N95 8GB Video Manager "NOT CONVERTING"

My NSeries Video Manager for N95 8GB does not seem to be able to convert any video file. What's exactly happening is that after I've searched a folder and found the video files, whatever video type I choose (whether it's an .avi, or.mpg or.mov file) and select "convert and trasfer to phone" I get a message saying some of the video or audio codecs needed for converting are missing and that I should check the log file for more info. The funny thing is I can watch all those videos I've found with VideoManager, I just cannot convert them with it. What's my problem? Am I missing any codecs, and if yes where can I find them for downloading?

You can be missing codecs, but what I experienced with Video Manager is that it is very buggy. If you know how to use ffmpeg, you simply do not need Video Manager and can convert videos to H.264 formats fast.
I use the following parameters with ffmpeg:
    ffmpeg -y -i "$input" -s 320x240 -async 1 -vcodec libx264 -b 200k -maxrate 384k -bufsize 384 -coder 0 -level 13 -acodec libfaac -ab 128k -threads 2 "$output"
Replace $input and $output with the input and output file paths respectively. Please be reminded that the ffmpeg version should support x264, otherwise it will not convert. After successful conversion, the file can be played by built-in RealPlayer.

  • Nokia Video Manager - Upside down and back to fron...

Have been trying to convert some avi(DivX) files to watch on my N95 using the Nokia Video Manager. Converts the files fine and all but they are upside down and back to front??? Have seen that a few people on the net have had the same problem but have not seen a solution to or reason for the problem.
    Anyone have any ideas?

    I am using
    XP service pack 1
Firmware version 10.0.018 (although this is not the problem as it plays upside down and back to front on my PC as well)
    All languages are English
The file was a DivX copy of a DVD, I'm not sure which program I used to convert it but all my video files are doing this. Can you suggest a file from the internet which you know to work that i can download and see if it still does the same thing?
    Cheers

  • Why can't Aperture supply referenced Videos to iMovie?`

I recently figured out that I have some videos inside my Aperture library, the rest is referenced in a separate location.
Why can't Aperture make these videos available to iMovie for editing?

Because that is the way the program was written.
Seriously there is no way to answer that question. The designers of Aperture made this choice, whether it is because of some limitation in the underlying software or for other reasons no one can say.
    It is as it is.

  • Problem with Nokia Video Manager - No video, only ...

    Hi all,
I have a problem with nokia video manager. I have been converting movies to mp4 and watching with my cell phone for a while now. But all the videos I have converted were less than 30 min. long.
When I tried to watch a video longer than 36 minutes, the picture froze some time around 36th minute and only the sound continued to play. I have tried several other videos with similar lenghts and all seem to freeze at the same exact point. The player continues to play the sound after picture freezes.
    Could someone please help ???
    Regards

  • Nokia Video Manager 1.5 does not install!

According to the download page of Nokia Video Manager 1.5 (http://europe.nokia.com/A4370009), the program should run under Windows XP Professional x64 Edition.
I have downloaded the program and give it a try on Windows XP x64, however, I get the following error during installation:
[!] The operating system is not adequate for running Nokia Video Manager.
Is there a way I can get the program running under Windows x64?

I use the DivX converter (in mobile mode) and the DivX player to play video on my phone. I gave up trying to find an MP4 solution that was high enough quality. If someone could post a Super preset that would be fantastic.
Ha ha ha, you are askin bout super preset, many times ago a young person was asked to make a sticky video thread but he was so lazy, he could not make it.
For MP4 solution the most common preset is:
29.97 FPS (Depends on the phone)
    1.5 MBPS>384 KBPS.
    320*240 pixel rez.
Most importantly, when you hit the FAQ page on the product page of any nokia website just ask or type the video encoding and a very useful (tho' quite long) topic will appear.
I learnt a lot from that one.

  • Can i use nokia video manager for converting video...

Can i use nokia video manager for converting videos will this support n79

Only be aware that Nokia video tools only work for videos that are not longer than 35 minutes.
Also the quality is not very good, you can get better results from other encoders.
Lastly they are Really slow compared to other tools available.
640K Should be enough for everybody

  • Video manager

I have spent an entire afternoon trying to access the YouTube dashboard or as it is now called 'creator studio', to get to Video Manager  , in order to monotize  my videos. Only to finally to get an error message that says " the dashboard is not available for mobile devices" ughhh!! I looked at YouTube videos of how to get to it, but they did not help, all of them unbeknown to me, pertaining to the use of a laptop or computer. Which meant none of the bits they said click, could be seen by me. Eventually using a friends laptop, entering the creator studio, I sent myself the link to the dashboard page. Then when I opened the link on my ipad I got the error message as above .
I also downloaded an app from the apple store which is designed for YouTube video management called 'MyYoutubeFree' this just crashed endlessly.
Does  anyone have have a solution?

Hours and still not answer... So Nokia, issuing faulty softwares and no clue how to solve a common problem ??? Still Waiting. If you guys can't get your soft to work properly, could you at least issue the proper Video settings for use to convert video with a free software ( VLC for example) we need : Def, Frame rate, codec, format etc ... so we can do it ourselves. Even better, if you issue the good setting, I will write a proper HowTo. (You guys are luck to have customers offering to do your job )
