Aperture asking for serial no. on each start up. Why?

Since upgrading to a new macbook, i cannot open aperture without a request for the serial number. i have deleted the software on the old macbook and successfully registered the same software on the new one and updated to v3.4 however... Any ideas?

Maybe you have an old ProAppsSystemID file.
Quit Aperture, log off and log on again. Then - in the Finder-  open your System Library and navigate to the folder:
     /Library/Application Support/ProApps
If there is a file ProAppsSystemID move this file to the desktop, also any other files with Aperture in the name.
Then try again to launch Aperture and to enter the registration number.

  • Aperture asks for serial number on each restart my mac

Everytime I restart my macbook pro, Aperture asks me to enter my serial number. I first have to enter my serial number for Aperture 3 upgrade. And then I have to enter my serial number for Aperture 2. After that Aperture works fine until I restart the computer at which time Aperture again asks me to enter this information.
Anyone know why it keeps doing this and why it can't remember my serial numbers? This problem has occurred ever since I moved over to the macbook pro 2011 and dragged my aperture icon over to my new computer.
    thanks for any help!

I didn't use migration assistant (not even sure what that is). I basically copied over the aperture application from my old computer to my new comuter - set the settings to be the same, and copied over my aperture libraries as well. It launched fine once I entered my serial number - but keeps asking for it everytime I restart.
I don't have the aperture disk anymore so if I want to restart - do I simply download the demo version and use my serial numbers? What files do I need to remove and how do I preserve my settings?
    thanks,
    Rishi

  • Aperture asks for serial after restart

After installing Aperture on my new Mac from a Time Machine backup, Aperture asks for the serial number every time I restart my computer. I have to enter both the upgrade number and the original number every time, so this is a bit frustrating. So long I don't restart, I can quit Aperture and open it without any problems. I originally purchased Aperture 2 back in 2009 I think, and I don't have the original CD anymore. I have now upgraded to the newest version, but I can not re-download it from the App Store.
After some googling I have tried to delete the ProAppsSystemID file and repaired permissions without any help.

You can download a copy of Aperture from Aperture 3 Trail and authorize it with the serial numbers you have. Doing an install rather then a migrate usually fixes this problem.
Once you download and install Aperture make sure you run software update to get Aperture up to the current version before you run it.

  • Aperture asking for serial number

Aperture keeps prompting for a serial number when I open it.  I saw this listed as a bug fix in software updates on the ap store, but my software is up to date.  How do I even find my serial number since I downloaded it from the ap store?  Also, in the future, how do I uninstall an ap?  Thanks so much for your help.
    Jill

When and how did this start? After you made an update? Did you update from the App Store or download an installer from the support page?
How do I even find my serial number since I downloaded it from the ap store?
Jill, Aperture from the App Store does not have a serial number. If it is asking for one, your installation is buggy.
I'd recommend to reinstall Aperture from the AppStore.
Back up your computer, if you do not have a current backup.
Remove the Aperture application from the "Applications" folder to the Trash.
Sign into the AppStore and go to the "Purchased" tab. Download Aperture again and let it install.
    Does it work now?
Also, in the future, how do I uninstall an ap?
That depend on the application. Applications, that are coming with an installer, usually also have an uninstaller. Use that to uninstall.
Other Applications, that you install by dragging them to the Applications folder, can be uninstalled by simply deleting them.
The documentation of each app should tell you, where the data reside, that also need to be uninstalled.

  • Mainstage asks for serial number everytime I start the program :(

I just upgraded my laptop to one of the new i7 macbok pro and installed logic pro 9 on it. Now Mainstage asks for my serial number 95% of the time I start up the program. Logic works fine and does not display this behavior. For one day I started logic first then used Mainstage and it didn't ask for the serial. I thought it was fixed but today it asks for my serial everytime I open up Mainstage 2.1.1 One of the times it asked for me to register with Apple and send them my info. I have already done this yet I turned on airport to send it again. This did not help.
Why does it continue to need the serial number everytime I start up.
Why the erratic behavior conserning this issue?
I only have logic pro 9 installed, Soundtoys plug-ins, and Melodyne. This laptop is to be an audio only machine for stability. That's why I want airport off. Could that be causing the problem? It ***** I'm having problems even on a stripped down, no internet, brand new top of the line Macbook pro.
Extremely frustrating after spending my life savings on one of these laptops
Any help would be extremely appreciated!!
    Todd

This is still a problem. I thought it was solved before but it came back. After contacting Apple support and spending hours spanning multiple days they realized this is a bug. Here is the current reply from tech support:
Hello Todd, I'm afraid you will not be notified
directly if/when the serialization issue is resolved.
Regarding troubleshooting your system, you could
keep the Activity Monitor up and running when you
are using MainStage, set to show All Processes,
and see if you notice any spike in CPU usage of
one of the process that corresponds with when a
    spike occurs in MainStage.
    Sincerely,
    David Paulson
    Apple Inc.
So according to apple they MAY fix this bug. "IF" it gets fixed. I spent top dollar for the latest macbook pro i7, and I purchased my own copy of Logic pro. I find this heartless reply to me, the customer very saddening. Randomly Mainstage and Logic will continually ask for me to enter my serial number and maybe one day there will be a fix or it could be an indefinite issue? ....and that's it case closed?
I am one very very unhappy apple customer. If you are planning on purchasing a top of the line macbook pro to use Mainstage problem free in a live concert setting then you could be in for extreme frustration with a large dose of buyer's remorse:(

  • Why Does Logic Pro Repeatedly Asks for Serial # and XSKey When Started?

I've purchased and installed an upgrade to Logic Studio 9. I previously used Logic Pro 7 but did not have it installed on my MacBook Pro when I installed Logic Studio 9.
The installer asked for the Logic Studio 9 serial number which I entered and then prompted for the original serial or XSKey. I dug out the Logic 7 XSKey, plugged it in and it was accepted so I could continue with the installation which completed successfully.
    So far so good.
But now Logic Pro 9 asks for the serial number and XSKey every time I run Logic which isn't what I expect. I re-enter the new serial number and then plug in the XSKey which is accepted and the software runs as expected, but I would prefer not to have to do this every time I start the application, in particular because I don't want to carry the XSKey around with me at all times.
Why isn't Logic 9 storing my serial number? Why does it ask for the serial # and XSKey every time I start the application?
I'm not running Logic as an admin user. Could this be preventing Logic from storing the serial information?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I had this when upgrading from 7 to 8. What I did was plugin the xskey BEFORE I started the upgrade and it never asked for a key or serial again after that.

  • Aperture asks for serial number

I upgraded to 3.4.5 a while ago and EVERY time my system reboots I need to type in my serial number for Aperture...this is very annoying.  Does anybody have an easy fix for this?
    Thanks,

it is unusual, that this happens after an update of Aperture - typically we are seeing this problem after migrating Aperture from a different Mac.
Are you entering the serial number from an administrator account? If not, try to sign into an admin account to enter the serial number. Aperture seems to have problems to write the serial number to the system library. If it forgets the registration key, when you shut down the system, the registration code is probably written to a temporary directory and erased when rebooting.
Look at the temporary directory /tmp:
    Use the Finder's "Go" menu
Go >  Go to folder    and  enter /tmp into the textfield. If you see a file ProAppsSystemID there, move it to its proper location in /Library/Application Support/ProApps.
Aperture must be running, and you will have to wait a few minutes to be seeing the file appearing the /tmp directory.

  • Aperture asks for original serial number after migration to new MAC

After migrating my software and files from my iMac to a new Mac Mini. Aperture asks for serial number first time I wanted to use it. Will not accept the serial number from either my first, Aperture 2 version of my Aperture 3 upgrade. I believe I never had version 1 - can't find amongst my software collection. Website support doesn't seem to allow me to display the software dtails I have registered with Apple over the years. How can I get this information?

Try Troubleshooting Professional Application Serial Numbers and if that doesn't help see Pro Application Replacement Serial Numbers
Apple support has been pretty good in the past suplying new serial numbers with the bare minimun of documentation.
    good luck
Message was edited by: Frank Caggiano - reading your post it is not clear but if this version of 3 is an upgrade from 2 you will need both serial numbers. First enter the serial number from version 2 then the number from 3

  • TS3231 Aperture keeps asking for serial # and previous serial # again, and again, and again.... Should I take up Adobes offer?

As above, upgrarded to Mountain Lion and no end of problems with Aperture.. every time I open the thing it asks for Serial Number, then asks for the previous versiosn serial number (as was an upgrade), then is all OK till I close it and open it again... a bit like the movie (can not think of the title of the movie...ahh Hog Day or ???), but he woke every morning to the same morning:)  Any suggestions or fixes or points of discussion on this would be greatly appreciated.
I have used FCP since it's inception, and now have emails asking me to "swap @ 40% discount" on a subscriber basis to ALL Adobe's software... I want Aperture to work (well open each time without me having to look up both serial numbers time and time and time again!!!
If I can get Aperture working again, maybe even try the new FCP.. but hec... your work on many files, then have to start all over again with serial numbers!!

  • Aperture 3 keeps asking for serial number

I had a new motherboard installed recently, and now Aperture asks for my serial number everytime I open it. I have to type it before I can use it, and when I quit and start it up again, it asks again. Does anybody know what's wrong?

In OS Lion your Libraries are hidden by default.
To make them visible open the Terminal .app (the Terminal.app is located in Applications -> Utilities)
    and type
sudo chflags nohidden  /Library; open Library
to make the SystemLibrary visible and to open it in the Finder .
The prefix "sudo" ensures that you perform this command as administrator. You will be prompted for your admin password. If you prefer to keep your System Library hidden, open it from the Finder -> Go menu,
When in Finder, select Go -> Go To Folder and enter: /Library , press "return"
In the Finder window that opens navigate to the "Application Support" folder, then "ProApps".
In the Folder "ProApps" you will find the File "ProAppsSystemID", this file stores the licence information. Move it to the Desktop, like shutters33d described above.
    Regards
    Léonie
P.S. To unhide your User Library, if you want to remove Preference files,
    open the Terminal .app
    and type
        chflags nohidden  ~/Library; open Library

  • Why does aperture keep asking for my activation key each time I open the programme?

I have aperture on iMac and macbook air - everytime I open aperture on air, it asks my name and key number. how do I get it to remember this? why does it do it?
Help please - I am tired of it.

Be sure to enter the serial number, when you are logged in from an account with Administrator priveleges - otherwise the serial number cannot be stored.
Aperture is installed for all users on your mac, so the serial number is written to the system library, not the user library, and this requires read/write access for administrators. Do you enter your serial number using an administrator account?
When did this start? Have you migrated your system from another mac? Then you still may have an older ProAppSystemID file  or Aperture cannot write to the System Library.
To stop Aperture asking for the serial number, first check, if you still have an old file "ProAppSystemID" in your System Library.
    Quit Aperture.
Go to your MacintoshHD and open the folder "Library", then "Application Support", then "ProApps".
Remove the File "ProAppsSystemID" to the Desktop, if it exist and restart Aperture.
Reenter your serial number, hopefully for the last time.
Sometimes Aperture writes this file to a temporary directory, when it cannot write to the Library. If the above does not work, look at the temporary directory /tmp
    Use the Finder's "Go" menu
Go > Got to folder    and  enter /tmp into the textfield. If you see the file there, move it to its proper location.
Aperture must be running, and you will have to wait a few minutes to be seeing the file appearin the /tmp directory.
In this case you may want to repair the permissions on your system drive; you can do this using the "First Aid" tools in "Disk Utility" (located in Applications > Utilities)

  • Aperture version 3.3.2 ask for Serial Number

After using an new MacBook Pro with Mac OSX 10.7.4, Aperture asking for licensing, I entered this ultra-long Numbers from Version 3 and 2, but i am not registered, after Quit Aperture I have to do the same procedere again, when I start Aperture. Anything is missing here?

Aperture purchased from the App Store asking for Serial Number?
Has anyone seen this? I just updated the app and now I can't get in.
    I don't understand.

First thing to try is delete the app. Open the Mac App Store and the status in the Purchases section should update to "Install". Click to download the full app rather than an update.

After the last update of OX Aperture ask for a serial number. But i haven´t a serial number! what should i Do? Please help me!

If you bought it the Mac App Store it shouldn't be asking for a serial number.
If you bought from the Apple Site with your web browser disregard these instructions.
    What I would try:
Move Aperture (the application) from the Applications folder to the Desktop.
Log into the MAS using the same Apple ID you used to originally purchase Aperture.
Do a fresh download and install
If Aperture works now trash the version you moved to the Desktop.
    If not post back

  • Asking for serial numbers

Aperture started asking for a serial number to be entered after having used it for the last 6 months or so. I posted some questions regarding this under the Aperture discussions, no insight yet.
Now soundtrack is asking for serial numbers despite my having used soundtrack for a good length of time. I'm seeing a pattern starting to form and am wondering if there might be more of an OS issue in general as opposed to one application.
Any insight as to why Apple products are randomly prompting about once a week or so for serial numbers? It didn't used to do this and they've worked great. They still work fine after inputting the serial number again. And again.
Its not a big deal to put in the serial number, more of a pain than anything. But I'd sure like to nip this in the bud if possible. Could something be going on with keychain? Or does keychain have anything to do with serial numbers for apple apps?
Any insight is appreciated. I do have all current software updates installed and have run the diskmanager to check for permissions issues, got those resolved (weren't many) and it is still asking about once a week for serial numbers on Aperture and Soundtrack.
    Thanks

I started a while back in the Aperture area for the Aperture stuff. Now that it is also happening with soundtrack, I'm wondering if there might be some issue that is outside of the individual app and more of an OS issue as opposed to an individual app.
I'm not sure if the serial numbers are stored in a central location or if they are app dependent
