Aperture causing image to blur slightly when it's straightened.

Hi all!
Here's my problem. I started noticing that after I made all my corrections to an image, the areas of fine detail started looking less detailed, or more fuzzy. After a little trial and error, I found that it was happening when I corrected the orientation of the image with the Straitened tool.
I've tried to regenerate the preview with no luck. After I straighten the image, and it looks less sharp, I can uncheck the straighten tool and the sharpness comes right back.
Has anyone seen this too? I have a friend that just took a class with Canon, and they say their software gives you more definition and detail than Adobe or Aperture. I'm hoping this isn't true as I love Aperture.
Thanks all!

Here is a link to an example of the problem. Both photos are exactly the same with the exception that one has a straightening correction and one doesn't. Both are 100% crops. You can see the issue in the belt buckle detail.

I am trying to organize thousands of old images in aperture.  Aperture dates them all in 2008, when I started this project.  When I change the date in aperture some of them hold the modified date and some revert to 2008.  Any ideas?

I just tried a test library, re-imported fresh images from a hard drive, and the date changes still revert.
So neither your external drive nor your Aperture library are to blame.
What do you mean test in a different user acct?  Would it be a good idea to uninstall and re-download aperture 3?
    Appreciate all your help.
I meant the trouble shooting procedure described here:  Isolating an issue by using another user account
To test, if some settings in your user account are faulty or preferences files corrupted, it helps to create a new user account from the "Users&Groups" System preferences. With a brand new user account you can see, if something in your current account is causing this.
Should you see, that Aperture is not even working from a new and clean account, I'd reinstall Aperture, and if need be the Operating system.  Are you using any plug-ins?

  • When I try to print to a PDF from any program images are blurred

I try to print to PDF using word, or any other program. The resulting PDF is clear for text and all but the images are blurred.
Could There be a reason for this and how do I fix it?   I am using the print preset when printing.
    Thanks,

You're right, if a workaround works it's good.  I don't use pdf's much either, usually just to send images if the receiver is on a PC as I work on a Mac. I had to send an image to a printer for a brochure so I tried to send a press quality pdf. I ended up sending a tif. I tried the Adobe posting to see someone had experience with this problem before calling my computer technician-at a cost. Your comment about fonts and locations prompted me to check files and read the window details more carefully, not just click continue.
So thanks, you really were very helpful.  Robert

  • Images become blurred when placed in a PSD document

I have a QCODE (barcode) which is a 2-bit pure black and white images.
However, when I place it in another open document, the image becomes blurred when it is placed and the definition of the QCODE is compromised.
How can I stop PS from blurring the image.
I'm guessing it is trying to smooth out the placed image, but i don't want this.
    Many thanks.

    but i don't want this.
Place it pixel exact! Resampling means the image is placed at sub-pixel values. Aside from that you would also get softness if the image is not properly converted to the target color space and automatic conversion creates mix colors whose individual components blend differently with neighboring pixels, which in part is simply an artifact of on-screen simulation. In any case, you will only be able to get a proper barcode in CMYK/ Duotone/ Multichannel modes, where you can make sure it appears on the spot black ink separation so it does not get halftoned and loses its sharpness again. ideally it would even be native vector data...

  • How can I create a scrolling effect where when the user scrolls down the image will blur out?

How can I create a scrolling effect where when the user scrolls down the image will blur out?

    Hi there,
You can create a scroll motion where the image will fade out on scrolling, you need to use the Opacity tab under Scroll Effects Panel.
If you particularly need the image to be blur out, then you need to edit that image in any image editing program and make one copy of that image as blurred, then place both images (actual and blurred) on that page and use scroll motion or fade option to replace images.

  • Fatal Internal Error: "image.cpp", line 13192 when trying to insert a cursor to graph

NOTE:  This IS a duplicate post from the Breakpoint.  Text slightly changed.  The post in Breakpoint can be deleted.  All comments should be placed in this thread.
I resolved the "Fatal Internal Error: "image.cpp", line 13192 when trying to insert a cursor to graph", but would like to share to find out if others have seen this and to determine whether this is a bug, or if it's time to redo my PC, or buy a new one..
I have an existing graphs (qt 6) which originally had 2 cursors.  This occurred while trying to add the third cursor.
Up until attempting to add the last cursor, the program worked great, and I had been running tests for a while.  However, I do recall seeing this problem when creating the original cursors, but not to this extent.  Plus I don't remember the original error message from that time.
I needed to add one more cursor to the existing graphs.  As soon as I add a new cursor and set it's properties, I get a nasty error message and without warning LV8.2 simply closes itself (well, the only warning was the error message.  Tried it 3 times, same result.
    Here are the steps:
Shut down the PC, went for a coffee, rebooted the PC.  Opened the LV project, opened the VI.  Immediately went to the graph properties to add the new cursor by doing the following steps:
Right click graph indicator icon on block diagram.
    Select Properties.
    Click on cursor tab.
    Click on Add
Select Cursor 2 (3rd one, newly created)
    Change color
    Select cursor as a line
    Remove checkmark for "show cursor"
    Click OK
I need to do this to 3 other graphs, same steps.  And as soon as I get to the step before clicking OK, I get the error message.
I managed to get an additional one done, by immediately saving after each step (yep going in & out of the properties).  But I've had this problem before when creating the first two cursors.
Is it a bug?  Anyone else seen this?  Using LV8.2.  And the message is right about LOOSING ALL unsaved work!!!!
    Here are more observations:
Tried creating a new one on the second graph.  As soon as I clicked on the color, it crashed!
See the error explanation below.  It is really clear, now anyone can solve it    LOL!!...  According to the error log, there's a bad image out there

I observed the title bar after making changes to the properties.  I noticed that 3 out of 4 times, while changing the properties of the graphs to include the cursor, and saving after each & every step, that there were no stars appearing on the title bar to indicate "unsaved changes".  Saving was also much slower than usual.  I suspect, the program never got to placing the star before saving occurred.  However, I am noting everything.
After creating the cursors, saving was and is normal, and the program runs well..   I have run tests without problems.
Does anyone have a clue at what causes this?   Has anyone seen this before?
    Thanks,
    RayR

    Hi Donovan,
I can't remember seeing this elsewhere.  When I get a chance, I'll create a new (blank) vi with new graphs and will repeat the steps.
I will let you know if I see this in the new vi.
    Thanks!

Using a SDHC card adapter I can import directly on my iPad2 videos (.mov) taken with a Panasonic DMC-ZS3. The same video files (same file format) imported in Aperture 3.3 cannot be synchronized with iPad. Is Aperture causing the problem?

Oh, baby! This bad boy flies!! Here's what to expect:
I had 40,000 images in Aperture 3 and it was dog slow at everything. I installed 3.1 update today. It took 5 minutes to update the database and then behaved marginally better than before at ASIC library navigation. I was disappointed.
Then I QUIT the app. It took a couple of hours to "update files for sharing" with a counter that went to 110,000 images. So it must have updated every thumbnail and variation of preview. Turned it back on , and BAM. Came up fully in seconds. Paused for 10 seconds ten everything was lickrty split. For the first time ever, I can use the Projects view with all 791 projects and scroll quickly. I even put it in photos modevand whipped thru all 49,000 images!
Haven't done anybprocessing yet, but i'm liking it!!

  • Monitor widescreen causes image distortion

My new 19" monitor causes images in Photoshop to appear elongated, and when I go to print, the display showing what should represent a sheet of 8 1/2 x 11 paper looks more like an 8 1/2 x 8 1/2. Can I do anything about this?
    Ed

    Ed,
In general, setting the screen resolution of the display to match the "native" resolution of the display will get rid of the distortion. For example, if the display has a native resolution of 1280 x 1024, you should set the screen resolution to the same. Setting it to a lower resolution (e.g. 1024 x 768) could also get rid of the distortion, but images will look fuzzier.
In Windows XP, you set the resolution via Start > Control Panel > Display (Vista is similar).

  • Images shift in CS4 when file reopened

Recently been having a problem in Illustrator CS4 (MAC).
I'll design something, place JPG images in the design, use a clipping mask (seems to occur when one is used only) then save the file including linked images (embedded).
Next day, I reopen the file, and just the images... not the type or shapes... are all moved around on the screen.
I then move them back, resave the file overwriting the original and seems fine afterwards, but still a pain, and always paranoid something will get sent to print and when they open it the images are moved about.
Any ideas what may be causing this?

    Images Shifting
Since you are embedding them or choosing include links, that rules out someone else may be editing those placed images. You can get type on a path that shifts in CS4 due to the next text engine and updating legacy text. The links palette >> placement options can cause images to shift, but I assume you have not used this.
Try resetting your illustrator preferences, and keep an eye on the dates on those placed images, and .ai files.
    Save As Groups
Does not happen to me, and have never seen this. Can we get a layers screenshot, as the naming/structure of these groups might help solve this.
Sorry to not have better solutions to both your posts, but unless you have some rogue actions that are assigned to keyboard command, your situation is quite unique.

  • Aperture 3 sees external drive differently when used as network drive

I have an Aperture library with 32000 files. When I started running out of disk space on my Macbook Pro I switch from Managed to Reference. I connected my external drive and Aperture moved the images. When I disconnect the drive, connect it to my iMac, and access the drive via my iMac, Aperture shows all my images as offline. I verified in terminal that the path hasn't changed (/Volumes/MyBook750/).
Is there a way to get Aperture to see the drive without having to use the Locate Referenced Files option every time I switch from external to network share?

The short answer is no there is not. I have a work-around but it is not for the feint of heart (dedicated 10GigE iSCSI network and some direct DB writes) but there is no easy way to deal with it.
If my memory serves this used to work a bit differently in Ap2 where a couple different criteria were used. Now it seems to be directly based on volume UUID even thought the path name is still stored in the DB. Maybe it's just me?

  • Aperture 2 Image Preview Corruption?

I just installed Aperture 2 (upgrade) this weekend, and am noticing that eventually, after several minutes of use, image previews (main window, not thumbnails) will start becoming corrupted. The corruption looks like streaks or bands of altered color data. Once it begins, it will persist for most new images that are clicked on. If I quit Aperture, I've noticed the behavior continue with other images (i.e. my desktop background). A couple times, this has also been followed by a system crash.
I'm running on a Dual 2.0 GHz G5, 3.5 GB, OS 10.5.2. Vast majority of images are RAW from a Canon 20D. Prior to updating Aperture, my system was fairly stable - the only crashes I would typically see were sleep-related.
Anyone else see similar behavior? I should note that when I've relaunched Aperture, the image previews are no longer corrupted, so I don't think anything is wrong with my photos themselves...
    Thanks for any insight!
    -Mark

Well, I think I finally found the answer to my problem... bad RAM. My system has been rather flaky recently - apps crashing randomly, so I started to think there were other issues going on. After reinstalling the OS had no effect, I finally figured I'd test the RAM. Sure enough, one of my pairs of DIMMs was bad (go figure it had to be the big 2GB upgrade I added). After I took them out, my Aperture imports have worked normally. It hasn't been very long, so I can't comment on whether that solved the system stability problems, too, but it's a good bet it has...

  • Image background changes colour when exported

    Hi there,
I have placed a jpg image (also tried it as a bmp) onto my report... The section background is white... The image background is white.
When the report is run, everything appears fine... HOWEVER, when the report is exported to PDF, the image background is slightly tinted (ie RGB 255, 255, 255 to 251, 254, 253).
I've tried the Report Options / Retain original image colour depth and Export Registry Settings options listed in other posts but still get the same results.
Does anyone have any ideas so I can hopefully this customer off my back.
    Cheers,
    Mat

When you zoom in PDF file the color depth decreases. In report level make it in large size and try to export it.

Lasso tool (Why do I get a triple image of the tool when I left click mouse?)

    Crystal ball time...
If it's the cursor you're talking about In Windows, try this:
    Right-click the desktop.
    Choose Personalize.
    Click the Display link.
Change to a slightly different size.  For example, if you're at 150%, try using the Custom sizing options link and setting to 149% or 151%
If you're seeing what Trevor is showing, without a delay, it's possible your left and right mouse buttons are swapped.
