Aperture changes resolution of pictures

I'm probably missing something really easy, but I don't use Aperture regularly, so....
I take pics with 180x180 ppi, 1920 x 1080. I import one into Aperture to do some "enhancing" and export the enhanced version. The picture now is 72 x 72 ppi. If I export the original, it is still 180x180; but that isn't the enhanced version. I cannot find a setting/option to tell Aperture to leave that alone - I don't appreciate having a picture resolution changed without my doing it.
Is there a way to leave the resolution untouched even if I make changes to a picture and where can I set it?

Hi babowa,
how are you exporting the enhanced version? Using the command "File > Export > Version" with the "Export Preset" set to "Jpeg - Original Size"?
Then check the "DPI" settings for this preset. That is by default set to 72 dpi, and change it 180.
You can do that by selecting this preset on export, then changing the preset to "Edit". In the "Image Export - Edit" panel you can duplicate this preset and modify the copy. Simply set the dpi to 180 DPI. Then use your own preset.

  • Aperture changes referencing of pictures?

Twice I have noticed a very strange event.  My referenced Aperture Library is located on my internal drive and my pictures are located on an external drive (Pictures 1).  I use SuperDuper to back up my 'Pictures 1' drive to another drive called 'Pictures 1 bkup'.  I opened Aperture this morning and found that all of the pointers were directed to 'Pictures 1 bkup' and not the primary drive 'Pictures 1'.
I am in the process of reconnecting 10702 references to the  'Pictures 1' drive.
Any suggestions as to why this is occurring?

When you did the clone did you do a block-level clone or a file-by-file clone? I'm guessing you did the block level, am I right?
I don't know for sure but I'm guessing that the block level clone  also duplicates the UUID. Th UUID can be changed but its a bit involved and I don;t have that info in front of me right now.
But before you change it think, with the cloned drive having the same UUID should the need ever arise that you need to use it you'll just be able to swap in the clone and Aperture will use it as if nothing happened (Aperture uses UUID to identify external drives). Normally when you swap in a backup even if the name and file structure is identical to the drive swapped out, Aperture will still require you to reconnect the referenced masters.
Anyway all this goes out the window if you didn't do a block level clone and/or CCC doesn't copy the UUID on block level clones.

  • How do I resize/change resolution of photos from iPhoto when used in iWeb

I am shooting with a 7.1 Mega Pixel Canon to get enough quality to crop and print high quality pictures of my baby daughter and her adventures in the world.
I have a website up made with iWeb, but when I select the photos in iPhoto and go Share / Sent to iWeb / photo page - I get a nice layout of the photos but at full resolution when the thumbnails are selected or the slide show is run. Although nice and sharp, this is a pain for anyone looking at the site even with high speed access.
There must be some way to resize photos, but I have yet to figure that out with iPhoto, let alone iWeb. And as one photo at a time is a pain, there must also be a way to rescale a whole selection of photos that I want to use for a page - say her Disneyworld trip. I can't be the first person to run into this, but I have not found anything out there to point me in the right direction.
Ideally I wold like to create a resized set from the originals - so I can still print and crop in high qulity. I also am not really sure what resolution would be best or easy viewing and download - that's probably subjective. 1200x800 comes to mind but I am open to suggestions.
Perhaps resize is not the right term - changing resolution is probably more accurate, but there too I have not found an answer.
    Appreciate the help and suggestions.

    dan28088,
Tried your site on two different browsers, using highspeed broadband; the site is, indeed, extaordinarily slow. We can dissect the thing down to the last file, but it won't change anything, as far as I can see. If it were me, I would host the site on another server. The .Mac servers are just plain slow, period. I think that is the primary problem here. Just my opinion, others may disagree.
I created a new site this past weekend for a new project, and published it to .Mac. It contains a lot of jpeg files in slideshows (along with the usual png suspects!) . After reviewing it a few times, and not being satisfied with page-load speeds, I published to a folder and uploaded the site to space on 1&1 WebHosting.
The page-load speeds TRIPLED. That's right...3X as fast page-load speeds. Even large, linked to files, 3MB+, load within a reasonable amount of time. (seconds)
I still will keep a .Mac subscription, as I like and use all of the other features of the iDisk. But for serious website hosting, I think you will be better 'served' with a remote host. Your money with .Mac is certainly not wasted; the syncing services and other features of iDisk space that integrate with your local files are well worth the yearly fee. Again, only one user's opinion, based on experience.

  • Why does the elements 13 change resolution when going into the editor -- it is huge and unusable

why does the elements 13 change resolution when going into the editor? -- it is huge and unusable

    Many mysteries...
Which is your OS version ?
Your screen is 1920 by 1080 pixels.
The problem appeared after having worked normally.
When we select a picture from the organizer (album) and click on the edit button.  The editor software changes the entire computer resolution from 1920 x 1080 to   640 x 480 (very unusable).
That's not clear for me: did you click on the 'Edit' button on the bottom right part of the organizer, or did you use the menu or the right click popup menu to open the editor? In the second case, you are in the editor workspace.
We tried right clicking on the Elements 13 icon, select properties and under compatibility we made sure that "run in 640 x 480 screen resolution" was de-selected, and it was.    Cannot find any properties window for the editor?
The editor has its properties in the 'Edit/preferences' menu, but there is nothing about resolution there.
Just to be sure : when you are in the organizer with the left 'Folders' panel shown, you highlight one of those pictures to edit. Then you right click and choose to "go to folder". Do the images are shown as 'offline' ? If that is the case, the original are on an external drive which is not connected, and what you are seeing is a 'preview' copy on your computer with 640 x 480 resolution.

  • External Monitor changing resolutions on Macbook

I have seen several people ask this question, but I haven't found a suitable answer. I have a MacBook running 10.6.8 at school. I teach and move from room to room hooking up to different projectors and monitors. The set up is just very unstable. Despite its supposed ability to remember settings, it rarely does and the resolutions are messed up as well as the display callibrations. I have an external monitor on my desk. Yesterday, I set the resolution to the native 1280x1024, when I plugged back in, it was back to 1024x768. For some reason, the higher resolution wasn't even appearing on the list until I fiddled with it.
Why is this so buggy on this MacBook running this OS? Is there a way to force it to remember display settings better? Any tips?
I know that other teachers have more problems than I do because they don't even know how to change resolutions or anything like that.
Thanks for any tips, tricks or helpful comments.

Try doing a Parameter RAM reset - hold down command/option/p/r keys at start up and wait for three chimes before releasing the keys.

  • How do I change my Desktop Picture to a solid color?

Hello folks, I'm trying to change my desktop picture to a solid black color in Leopard. How do I do that? I went into the desktop preferences under System Preferences but under solid colors, they do not have black. And I have no idea how to add more colors to the few selections there. Can someone help me out please? Thank you.

That's one idea, they have a solid black .png file on there, and you can either set it as your desktop and tile it, or follow their instructions.

  • Can I change resolution and embed font in cloud acrobat?

I need to be able to change resolution on one manuscript pdf, so I purchased the monthly cloud acrobat, but now I'm not seeing the capability to change resolution on the document.
I don't have an ongoing need for high resolution pdfs, so my normal MS Word to pdf is usually fine.

Nothing in the world can increase resolution if that's what you want. Reducing resolution is done via Save as > Optimized PDF.

  • Changing resolution in Solaris 10 sparc system

How do change resolution in solaris 10 on sparc system?
During install display was fine. Once boot to OS, display is bad. Need to know how I can change resolution to get a decent display on screen.

I'm not too sure about sparc hardware, as I don't know which graphic server it uses, but on my system(x86) the same thing happened. What I had to do was make an xorg.conf as the install doesn't create one.
On the CLI execute '/usr/X11/bin/xorgconfig' and this should step you through creating an xorg.conf file- as long as you are using the Xorg server of course.
    or
execute '/usr/X11/bin/Xorg -configure' this should create a basic xorg.conf and you just edit it yourself where appropriate.
Personally, if you know your graphic board, monitor, keybrd and mouse along with refresh rates the first method is probably best.

  • How do I change the background picture that is shown when i start my Mac?

On the iMacs in my school they have a different name for everyone of the after for example the band Queen and then there is a picture on the inlogg screen with queen on it. So then you log in and there is another background picture after that. I Have a macbook pro and I would like to change that "start-picture".
Right now it´s kind of boring and grey. Can you change it somehow?

It sounds like you're using Adobe Send for Outlook.  Correct?
Unfortunately, there is no way to change the default text that is inserted into your message. You'll have to change it each time.
I will pass along your request to the Adobe Send team.

  • Why can't I enlarge safari bar and bookmarks bar so the print is larger.  I can only do this if I change resolution on display.  I do not want to make my 27" smaller.  Any comments?

After just installing Mountain Lion on mid 2011 iMac 27" I find it does not allow increasing size of font for Safari bar and Bookmarks bar.  The print is so small it is difficult to see.  I can change resolution of screen but the the size of the screen becomes smaller.  Not what I had in mind when I bought this iMac.  Is there any fix out there and is Apple working on this problem?  Any comments would be appreciated.  Thanks.

  • Apple Mail 7.3 - How to change my profile picture?

    Hi!
I checked the old available posts, but none of them really solved my question, so here I go again with my question regarding the small picture shown on outgoing mails in Apple's Mail 7.3.
Currently it shows a default 'green lightning' picture on my outgoing mails in the upper right corner.
I did: System Preferences > Users & Groups, and selected Current User (Admin/myself), and dragged and dropped a new personal picture into the picture box showing the old 'green lightning' default picture which was then substituted by the new pic of my choice. All done.
However, Mail 7.3 after numerous restarts and 48 h later now, STILL shows on outgoing mails the old 'green lightning' pic which I had substituted before via Sytem Preferences > Users & Groups.
    Can anybody help?
    Thanks!!

    Hey MN072012,
Thanks for the question. The picture is actually pulled from your card in Contacts. If you open up Contacts and find the card that is associated with your email address, I suspect you will see that the “lightning” picture is still linked to that card. Try changing it there and sending a test email to yourself.

Add or change the contact pictures that appear in contact cards and in other apps that use contact information, such as Mail and Messages. Your contacts don’t see the pictures; only you do.

  • Could the Change Resolution App for Retina mess up Display?

This is a dumb question and I believe I already know the answer but I downloaded the Change Resolution App just to test out the 2880 setting. After doing so, I closed it out and then went to the settings on my laptop and chose best retina aka 1440. It seems like the retina display does not look as good as when I first took it out the box so I just wanted to make sure that by downloading this app and messing with it a few times, it didnt affect the way Apple sends you the laptop. Like I said, I went back and set it to the default setting but something didnt seem the same. I didnt know if Apple did something special to make it look so well but when you messed with the setting through an app it now has removed what they did and it doesnt go back to the way it originally was even when you go through the Apple settings and change it back to Best Retina display. Like I said, I know its probably a dumb discussion but I am not the most advanced when it comes to computer talk. I also read something about the way the display works through the 1440 setting allows 4x the pixels or something like that. I appreciate your help even for a noob question like mine.

    Anyone know the answer?
