Aperture converts black and white to colour, only I did not want it colour!

Hi, I mostly shoot in black and white in RAW and use an olympus pen e-p1. I recently upgraded to aperture 3.1.3 and my monochrome images are being converted back to clour when I import to aperture. This is new and only has happened since the update. The review function on the camera remains monochrome, so I have no idea what is going on.
Ok I can convert them back again in aperture, but that is not the point. I am wondering is this a bug, or have I inadvertently done something to make this happen?
I am using a mac mini 2010, 8 gig ram, snow leapard 10.6.8.
I would welcome any thoughts suggestions

RAW capture includes color information. The b/w is just a camera setting like white balance that does not change the actual capture of "RAW" image data (which is why we can easily change exposure, WB etc. during post processing edits of RAW captures).
Your solution is to shoot RAW + JPEG capture. The JPEGs will have the camera mods like b/w; or the RAWs can be converted to b/w using Aperture or an image editor like GIMP or Pixelmator.
In the past if pix remained b/w upon import it was because you were seeing the camera JPEGs, not RAW.

PSC 1510 All in one printer - won't print even black and white when colour cartridge not recognised

My PSC 1510 All in one printer is flashing the "check printer cartrige icon" and both "Black" and "Colour" icons at the bottom left of the printer.
It won't print at all, even when I select grayscale (black and white). The help pages tell me that if I remove the colour cartridge the printer will switch to backup mode and I'll still be able to print in black and white (though not copy or scan). But this is not the case, and I can find no way of switching manually to backup mode. The help pages have no useful explanation of backup mode. I've also tried cleaning the cartridge (which I'm pretty sure isn't empty) but that makes no difference.
Can anyone help? I'd be very grateful.

With only one cartridge light blinking I would suspect the cartridge, they do rarely fail (much more often for reman cartridges, see here). Clean the cartridge contascts as shown here. If that fails and the cartridge is an original HP then check the warranty date as shown here. If the cartridge is in warranty return it to your dealer for a warranty replacement.
The printer will automatically switch to backup mode if the black (or color in some printers) cartridge is removed. I do not know if this works with the PSC 1510, some all-in-on devices insist on having both cartridges present.

Printing black and white when colour is out of ink

I am currently wanting to print a doc in black and white. The YELLOW is out of ink. it will not allow me to print in black and white. I have changed the printer setting to defalt to black and white but it still will not allow me to print cause of the empty YELLOW ink. Is the a way to bypass the colour ink and just print black and white?

I see you are looking into printing with empty cartridges. Due to the design of the printhead, it requires cartridges with some ink in each slot to ensure there is no damage caused to the printhead.

How can i reset my ipad from black and white to colour (i see my photos like negatives) ?

the installation run successfully, but i must have made a mistake while setting the ipad and now the ipad shows pages in black and white and the pictures and photos and like negatives, can you help ?
Also my pc is not equipped with a wiffi system so i think i have to buy a usb device, any suggestion ?

Credit card statement printing in color when black and white chosen. Wasting INK! Not a printer problem.

I have tried to print my business cc statement 3 times and even though I have my printer default to black and white and I verified that in the print dialog box it still printed in color three times. I called printer company - no problems with that....I called cc company to see if they had a special down load issue - not problems with that. They open in Adobe as a pdf so it must be that. I saved it and tried to print it and it DID print correctly then. But, I do not want to have to save the statement each time. I have never had this issue before. Printer is only a couple months old. Programs are all up to date.

It seems to be happening only in Google Chrome. And it has happened with other sites, too, when downloading something to print. I attached a screen shot. As you can see, it shows black and white for printing but it still printed in color.
Are there setting in Chrome that I can't seem to find? Thanks for your input.

When I try to open some web sites i am blocked by MOZILLA and redirected to a site I did not want and am unable to close or go back without going back to the home page. Help help help

I have removed the check from the pop up blocked in the MOZILLA options but still get this problem of not being able to open certain sites. The MOZILLA icon appears with the three options available, but before i can click on one I am automatically redirected to a site I did not want, and when I try to go back it will keep coming back to the site MOZILLA put on the computer. I have to close and go back to the home page and start all over again. I have installed a new virus protection system STOPZILLA and could this have any bearing on the problem. After awhile it becomes very frustrating trying to get on line information and being continually redirected. Any ideas?

How can I get my HP Photosmart 210E to print on black and white or grayscale only.

I have tried to several times change my advanced settings under preferences to grayscale only printing and I continue to get color prints. what can i do to correct the problem. I do not see a message that says apply only OK when I change the settings to grayscale

Converting black and white video to color

Oops. Using my photo cam this weekend I shot some of my videos in B&W. They appear to be the same size as the color videos of similar lengths so I am hoping the color information is saved somewhere in the frames. Having said that, is there a way to convert the video from its originally shot b&w into color?

My HP1050A J410g - 14 months old hardly ever used stopped printing black and white.
Colour will print.
No error message
Test page prints blank
Cartridges are new and not empty.
Paper feeds through but prints blank.

PSE Elements 9-convert to black and white not working.

I recently bought my wife a new HP computer with Windows 7 64bit and Photoshop Elements 9 to go with it. She has not had any problems up until today.. It seems when she attempts to convert a picture into black and white, photoshop freezes up. Sometimes it will convert the image but most of the time when you go to Enhance--convert to black and white, the little photo of what you want to conver that is on the right hand side of the screen just fills up with dots and then nothing appears on the work area.At that point you cannot close the application or anything else with out Ctrl.alt,delete. I have tried to change the programs compatibility to Windows Xp service pack 2 and 3 as well as running as admin but it does not fix this problem. As far as I know this only occurs when she tries to convert photos to black and white. What can we do? Is PSE9 not compatible with Windows 7 64?

Suggest that you delete preferences:
Preference settings control how Photoshop Elements displays images, cursors, and transparencies, saves files, uses plug‑ins and scratch disks, and so on. If the application exhibits unexpected behavior, the preferences file may be damaged. You can restore all preferences to their defaults.
Press and hold Alt+Control+Shift immediately after Photoshop Elements begins launching. Click Yes to delete the Adobe Photoshop Elements settings file.
A new preferences file is created the next time you start Photoshop Elements. For information on a specific preference option, search for the preference name in Help.

WII and VCR will only show in black and white.

While in WII or VCR mode, the video only appears as black and white. Any suggestions?

You might want to try this as well.
1 From the Preferences menu, highlight AV Input.
2 Press left or right to select your desired setting.
so if your using a composite cable, then you have to switch AV Input to VIDEO then if you are using component then you have to switch back to COLOR STREAM

You should put a case on it anyway so buy one in the color you want.

Problem printing page numbers in black and white

Using Pagemaker 7.0 and creating a PDF file that I send to a printer. The interior pages of this newsletter get printed in black and white. The page numbers do not show up in the black page number background oval. The printer says that that is because the two colors used for the page number and the oval background both get converted to the same gray scale value. He suggested that I set the page number to white and the background to black. Is there any way to set the colors that are used for the page number and the background?

You should make sure that anything on your interior pages is black and white, never trust someone else to convert things to B&W for you. If you are using a master page for the page numbers, that should be black and white too. You can have two master pages, one for color page numbers and one for black and white page numbers.

TV/DVD Combi DVD plays in black and white

I have a TV/DVD Combi 32DV502B. The TV is fine but when I press source on the remote and select DVD mode it comes up in black and white and the DVD plays in black and white. The only cables that come out of the TV are power and aerial cables. Can anybody help

Equium A80 - Black and white when plugging into PAL TV

I know this seems to be a common problem but I have searched this forum and it seems the soloution is to select PAL or a screen refresh rate of 50Hz.
My Equium a80 has no option for PAL and the only screen refresh rate is 60Hz.
Can anyone help?? Please!

I assume you have connected the notebook with TV and now the pictures on TV are black and white. In my opinion its not a hardware fault and also not a issue of 60 Hz display settings.
How did you connect the notebook with TV?
Some of TV units have option for S-VHS activation. If your TV doesnt support that you can use a Cinch-cable to connect the notebook on the TV.
