Aperture crashes every time now after editing "Custom Field"
I was trying to edit my Custom Fields to get around the annoying inability to edit EXIF camera data (my photos are film and were scanned 15 years ago without EXIF data); this seems to have somehow created a Custom Field with name = blank. " " and now whenever I reference the custom fields Aperture crashes; when I restart it it tells me it's "rebuilding the database" and it takes a good while.
I am not 100% the blank custom field is the cause.

Great that the Photoshop Elements 11 Editor from Mac App Store is working, but I am not sure how that was integrating with Premiere Elements 11 Editor or will interact with Premiere Elements 11 Mac if you can find the latter for purchase online from Amazon or other. (I realize that the Mac App Store products did not come with Elements Organizer 11; whereas the Premiere Elements 11 Mac does.)
If you want to add Premiere Elements 11 Mac to your computer, it might be a good idea to look at the tryout from the following web site, and then purchase from your selected vendor. The web site offering the 11 tryout does not sell the tryout as far as I have ever heard.

With this route you need to read and carryout carefully that web site's "Note: Very Important Instructions" in order to avoid access denied messages.

Aperture Crashes Every Time on Launch Following Large File Manipulation
I've been using Aperture 2.1.3 (and previous) to work on bigger TIFF files (200MB+) which are scans of large format negatives (made with Silverfast AI Studio). I routinely get the "Red Screen of Death" (Unsupported File Format) but restarting Aperture fixes the problem and lets me work for another 5-30 mins before needing another restart. Usually, before it gives the Red Screen or a crash it draws a horizontal white line of single pixels across the right side of an image I work on. Also, randomly, some versions just show all in black.
All of those files work perfectly in Photoshop CS4 (and CS2).
Unfortunately, as I tried to create a new version from master today Aperture crashed but it will no longer start properly. It starts, shows me the usual screen and I even get a chance to quickly click on a project, but about 5 seconds after starting it crashes, always, and every time.
How can I fix it?
Can I, perhaps, delete the most recently edited master from the library somehow, assuming that it is causing offence?
Would anyone with Lightroom experience comment if it is more stable?

My solution, unfortunately, was to migrate to Lightroom.

Aperture crashes every time I look at keywords - any help?
I am considering upgrading to Aperture. I just loaded up the 30-day trial and imported about 500 images from my iPhoto library.
Every time I hit the keywords button and then try to expand any of the lists, Aperture immediately quits. (And then helpfully tells me it quit unexpectedly, and would I like to submit a report...)
Any help?
I'm using a MacBook pro less than 3 months old.So if you have an empty library and expand one of the stock keyword categories it's OK? What if in the library where you have imported the iPhoto images, you expand one of the stock categories?
What version of iPhoto? And while we're at it what version of OS X?
I've imported iPhoto libraries into Aperture and the keywords have never given me a problem. As a first step I'd do a library repair on the iPhoto library you're importing. After you run that try importing it again into a new Aperture library.
Also looking at keywords in the iPhoto library doesn't cause any problems?
Include the crash report in a seperate post if you can. It might show something. -
Aperture crashing every time I upload to Facebook
Since yesterday every time I upload pics to my Facebook Gallery Aperture crashes.
I try to restart Aperture and it rebuilds the database - and I try again - and it crashes again!
One or two pictures get into FB but thats all! And then it crashes again!
I have tried uninstalling Aperture and reinstalling it but the problem continues.Yes it is the newest version.

Aperture crashes every time I try to open preferences
I have deleted both my user preferences and my global preferences (all users) for Aperture, and also deleted and reinstalled the applications itself and nothing resolves this problem. One other bug appeared at the same time as this one - there is no histogram in the heads up display anymore.
The only major change I can think of that could be connected to these problems is the recent itunes and quicktime updates (which happened to be as useless for me as the new apple TV since there are no movie rentals in Canada).
Any suggestions out there on how to fix this?I don't know if this will work with Aperture, but there was a problem with iPhoto crashing when preferences were opened, and it was solved by resetting the Launch Services database.
Type this in the terminal to reset it:
`locate lsregister` -kill -r -all local,system, user

Why does itunes crash every time I try to use it? Begins startup and get message that itunes is in compatability mode (which I don't know what it is nor have ever set itunes to run in it). Then itunes crashes every time even after deleting and reinstalIing itunes.

Do you have iOS 5.1.1 on your original iPad? If not update the iOS.
You might also try quitting the app and then reset the pad.
Go to the Home screen and double click the Home button. That will reveal the row of recently used apps at the bottom of the screen. Tap and hold on the app in question until it wiggles and displays a minus sign. Tap the minus sign to actually quit the app. Then tap anywhere on the screen above that bottom row to return the screen to normal. Then reset your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously ignoring the red slider should one appear until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. See if that fixes your problem.
Still no joy? Delete the Keynote app, reset the iPad and then reinstall Keynote. You will not have to pay for downloading it again. -
Had to start Firefox in safe mode cause it kept crashing after i deleted the file. Now Fire fox Crashes every time I open it and I have to put it in safe mode just to use it, also it's not syncing with my iPad.
If you use Norton software, try disabling your Norton extensions. As of last week, there were severe compatibility issues with Firefox 24.

After installing Mavericks on an imac, Mail would not sync with my Google Apps email account. After I clicked on All Mail the program crashed and now it crashes every time I open Mail. Does anyone have an suggestions?
Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. If Back-to-My Mac is selected in System Preferences, the Guest account will not work. The intent is to see if it is specific to one account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later.
Isolating an issue by using another user account
If the problem is still there, try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account. Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.

Every time since I upgraded this morning, attempting to open Aperture causes a crash. I upgraded to Aperture 3.4 this morning, and now it will not open at all! It crashes every time, and tries rebuilding the library and repairing most times. The Library open fine in Iphoto

Iweb crashing every time i launch it ! after now building web site with it
This programme has started crasing as soon as i start it up for no apparent reason. It is very very bad. How on earth can apple have made something so useless. It is putting me off apple software. I have repaired disk permissions but the programme just crashes every time i start it.

I did some extra digging around. The "domain" file is a package, with much of the site contents hidden inside. I tried swapping things in out of a copy of that domain file and narrowed it down to a corrupt "index.xml.gz" file. I haven't found anyway of repairing that file and without it, my sites are no longer visible to iWeb -

The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.
If you've already tried a complete uninstall and reinstall try opening iTunes in safe mode (hold down CTRL+SHIFT as you start iTunes) then going to Edit > Preferences > Store and turning off Show iTunes in the Cloud purchases. You may find iTunes will now start normally.

FCP 10.0.1 update now crashes every time I launch it!
FCP update now crashes every time I launch it! Won't even open a project I started last week with version 10.0.0.
I have a deadline at work so I've now got a big problem! I'm trying to give the new and supposedly improved FCPX a shot but this app is turning out to be a real hack. What other professional video editing software do you guys use? Anyone use Premier Pro? I have Premier pro and think I should probably start my new projects in it. As I said....this app is a real mess.
FYI: Same problem for my 1 year old MacBook Pro (8G ram, i7 processor) AND my Mac Pro (16G ram, 2 x 3GHz quad core processors, 4-1TB hardrives.I don't know who these friends are, but they're certainly misinformed and they don't appear to be doing you any favours.
There are a great number of professional editors who have used Final Cut Pro since version 4 - but took the trouble to
a. Find out the system and install requirements for FCP X
b. Watch professional tutorials such as Ripple Training and actually LEARN how to use this ground breaking new application.
They (and I) are having very few issues with FCP X - especially since the update.
If you're getting crashes, autosave problems etc, there is more than likely some conflict on your system drive.
Create a new (admin) user on your Mac system and try FCP X from there.
I did this, and FCP X worked perfectly on the new account, meaning there was definitely a conflict on my existing system.
To be absolutely certain my MacPro's system was squeaky clean, I then did a clean reinstall (not TimeMachine) and FCP X has worked reliably ever since.
FCP X application should be in your Applications folder and ideally, your project and events should all be on an external HD and not on your Mac system drive.
I have around 4000 clips distributed between six events at the moment and FCP X is coping very well most of the time.
It helps to work without the waveforms displayed as these slow things down considerably.
Do you have FC Studio or a version of FCP on the same drive partition as FCP X?
This is what Apple say on their current web page on installation practice:
"It is strongly recommended that you install Final Cut Pro X, Motion 5, and Compressor 4 on a startup disk that does not have Final Cut Studio (2009) already installed. Use Apple's preferred installation procedure when upgrading one version of Final Cut Pro or Final Cut Studio to the next. This procedure is not unique to Final Cut Pro X."
They do go on to say "if you must" have the two on the same partition, FCS must be located in a different folder - but I would have thought the words "strongly recommended" and "if you must" speak for themselves.
