Aperture crashes on startup
I upgraded my wife's white Macbook from Aperture 2.X to 3.1.3 via the App Store. Everything seemed okay for a few minutes. I backed up to the vault, but now it crashes on startup. Aperture opens, it says it is processing, spinning beachball, then crash. All in about 30 seconds. I repaired permission within Aperture, repaired the library, but it still crashed. Rebuilt the library, and then Apture stayed open, but crashed after a time, when I wasn't asking it to do anything. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
I called Apple and over the course of the day,and after several emails and calls back from Apple, we fixed it. In the end, I opened Aperture by pressing the shift key while double clicking the original library. I then created a new vault and restored the library from that vault. Whatever was corrupt was left behind by starting Aperture with the shift key. The Apple Tech was very helpful in troubleshooting the issue.

Aperture crashes on startup, a little help?
I need some help here people, thanks in advance...
My copy has all of the sudden begun to crash on startup. It bounces a couple of times in the dock and then disappears.
I started while holding "shift" when starting Aperture to no avail. I trashed the preferences with no effect. I removed ~/Library/Application Support/Aperture/ with no change. My computer is up to date, including OS (10.4.10), Pro Application Runtime (v4.0), latest version of Aperture (1.5.3), all security updates, etc. I don't think I have anything crazy going on my machine otherwise.
Getting frustrated, I went to reinstall the app and the installer (from Aperture 1.1 I believe) crashes as well! I've also run disk utility and everything checks out, and I've rebooted a few times, etc. I tried logging in as another user and I get the same behaviour.
My computer is otherwise fine, everything else works--except Aperture. Any ideas?
Abbreviated crash logs for Aperture and Installer are below, let me know if you need me to paste the entire log (and why don't these forums accepts links?)
Thanks in advance,
p.

2 libSystem.B.dylib 0x9002bd08 pthreadbody + 96I hope this helps. I found that Automatically generating previews was causing my system to take a very long time to open or worse (52,000+ photos, 95 gig database). The previews added more than 30 gigs to my database. Also, *Aperture dose not respond to the operating system when doing previews*. *This causes a crash if you try using anything while Aperture is “not responding”*. It may corrupt the data base (loose pictures and not let know it after the crash). The Disk utility did NOT catch the missing pictures or corrupt files. Only booting up with DISKWARRIOR found the corrupted files and missing pictures. I LOST many pictures before figuring this out. Each time it hung required 6+hours of DISKWARRIOR rebuilding of all mounted disks (external and internal). More than 1.5 terabytes in my case. My first fix was do nothing and let the previews finish generating (it took 72 HOURS), Aperture worked great afterwards until the newest release 1.5.3. I figured out the background preview problem appeared again. Fewer crashes this time but very very SLOW. It also crashed if ITUNEs was used during preview update. After a couple of months of intense monitoring, reading and so on. I figured out how to TURN OFF BOTH preview generating processes. The most important being the main Library preview update. This is the one that starts when you open Aperture and will crash your system if you try and doing anything while it is running in background. Attempting to to cancel this task was very difficult (it keeps restarting over and over...). Turning it OFF is a simple fix but no one stated that way (i e forums).
The ”preview generating” turning OFF fixes;
#1. In the Aperture BASIC screen (with no projects highlighted), open the gear icon to the right of the “All Projects” text (top of first column before tool bar). UNCHECK the update previews. Hooray it will not do it anymore and stops crashing. That is all, unless you need to recover about a third of your space by deleting the already generated previews, but first see the PS1 below.
#2. In the Aperture preferences, UNCHECK the “gernerate previews ...”. Your done and enjoy.
My system performance was restored.
P.S.1 After deleting all the previews (recovering 30+gigs of wasted space in my case) Aperture will update your database with NO icon or anyway to let you know it is running in background, unless you go to QUIT. Then it states “updating database” for about 30+ minutes, before it will Quit. Also trying to work while it is “updating database” will likely hang your system and corrupt more files as I experienced several times. Not even the Activity monitor will show it updating. Each time it hung required 6+hours of DISKWARRIOR rebuilding all mounted disks. More than 1.5 terabytes in my case. But I lost no more pictures.
P.S.2 Regarding crashes with the first version of Aperture, the USB system on my G5 NEVER worked correctly for hard drives, my modem and other data devices, I found it causes its own crashes with any program using USB mounted disks. I would not use the USB in anyway for data drives (it is another long story). The best response I found was to use my 2nd internal SATA drive for the database. I first used firewire 800 with good response and never a problem. The Aperture database should not be put on the Operating System drive. I compared USB 2.0, Fw400, Fw800, Net 1000 and SATA internal drives work with the Aperture database. I found the internal 2nd SATA drive best followed by firewire 800 or firewire 400. USB was worst (causes crashes) followed by the slow net 1000. -
Aperture crashing during startup
It's crashing during the splash screen. I've deleted everything I can find with AppZapper, moved my library to an external drive an disconnected and reinstalled, but no luck.
During install I only get the option to upgrade - does this mean I still have some aperture files on the machine?
This has been working fine for weeks, I had flicker and smugmug plugins installed - I haven't used it for the last week.

Aperture 3.4 crashes on startup how do I downgrade?
after upgrading to 3.4 (from 3.3.x) Aperture crashes on startup. the install was done from the manual download from the apple site, since the app store does not recognize my pre appstore install.
running 10.8.2 on a MacProWhoever is in charge at Apple of software development and QAT for Aperture MUST be fired. If not, Apple will loose any credibility they still have with professional photographers. As far as I can tell, they are not doing too well with videographers either, but the photo/Aperture side is a disaster.
Software quality control for Aperture has been a nightmare (remember the massive performance problems we had after the last OS upgrade??!!). Apple, you need to get your act together and rid yourself of the problem before it is too late.
PS: If it is not obvious by now, I am experiencing the same startup crashes everyone else is struggling with. The funny thing is that iPhoto works fine with the SAME libraries that Aperture is copiously crashing on. I guess the iPhoto SW development manager and team are separate from the Aperture one ..... Hey, here is an idea. Fire the Aperture team altogether and give the iPhoto team Aperture. Maybe they can salvage it.
I am trying to put a workaround together .... (hint: it involves iPhoto and removing the .plist that contains the stupid facebook link that never worked properly) -
Aperture 2.1 crashing on startup
Hallo
My Aperture 2.1 is crashing on startup. I get the message, that the applications has crashed. This problem existes on my Mac Pro as well as on my Mac Book Pro 17. I'm running 10.5.2. About 5 days ago, I was able to run Aperture on my Mac Book. Today I refused to start-up. My Mac Pro has been causing me problems for about 2 weeks.
When I use another user, I can run it without problems. I don't think it is a libray problem, as I have different libraries on my Mac Pro and my Mac Book. I think, there must be a kind of conflict with another programm or extension.
I deleted the prefs file, deleted PRAM. On my Mac Pro I completely erased everything, which was conntected to Aperture and made a complete reinstallation - nothing helped.
Does anybody have similar problems? I called the Apple Hotline, but the were not able to help me.
Paul MerkiAn iMac and an MBA are different machines and need different libraries, so what works on your MacBook Air will not necessarily work on an iMac.
Your crash report shows clearly that the following framework in your system library is corrupted, and cannot be loaded, because it has been compiled for the wrong architecture - on some macs the Final Cut installation installs the wrong frameworks:
Library not loaded: /Library/Frameworks/PluginManager.framework/Versions/B/PluginManager
If you have a TimeMachine backup from the time before the Final Cut installation, you can try to restore the PluginManager framework from backup, otherwise the safest way to get your Aperture working again is to reinstall the system using the Combo Updater as Frank Caggiano recommended. That will certainly fix it, so that both Aperture and FinalCut will work.

Aperture 3.3.1 crashes after startup
My problem: Aperture 3.3.1 has been crashing consistently after application startup for about four days, It launches to the point where I can start to open projects, but crashes soon thereafter.
I've done the following based on what I've read in this forum:
• Repaired Aperture databse permissions
• Repaired Aperture database
• Rebuilt Aperture database
• Reinstalled the latest application update
• Reinstalled the OS (10.7.4) from the latest Lion Combo update
• Restored the Aperture library from an earlier Time Machine backup
• Deleted from the Photo Stream all photos taken since before the problem started (used my iPhone) and verified that Photo Stream is OFF in the application
Here's the first part of the crash log (I can supply the rest if necessary):

Can anybody suggest anything else I can try? I'd really like to be able to access my photos again (almost 800GB with over 30,000 photos).Phillip,
Aperture seems to be crashing when accessing your raw files - you do shoot raw, don't you?
• Does Aperture also crash, when working on a new library? If you import some new images for testing?
• And does Aperture crash, when working from a different account?
If you can work from a new library, but not your own, you probably still have a corrupted image in your library.
If you cannot work in your account at all, but from a different user account, I'd suggest to remove your raw presets from your user library:
Look for
Your home folder/Library/Application Support/Aperture/Raw Decode Presets.plist
and move this file to the Desktop, then try again, if Aperture still crashes.
If it does not help, try the other presets in turn, also the Aperture preferences in the Preferences folder.

Brand new iMac, Aperture installed from Mac AppStore crashes on startup
I installed Aperture 3.0 from the Mac AppStore yesterday, but it crashes immediately on running, with this message:
Dyld Error Message:
Library not loaded: /Library/Frameworks/PluginManager.framework/Versions/B/PluginManager
Referenced from: /Applications/Aperture.app/Contents/MacOS/Aperture
Reason: no suitable image found. Did find:
/Library/Frameworks/PluginManager.framework/Versions/B/PluginManager: no matching architecture in universal wrapper
I bought my iMac a few days ago. There's a few apps installed, including Final Cut Express 4.0 - installed from CD - which given all the other threads I've read with the same crashing message, may make a difference.
I used the Aperture troubleshooting basics (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3805) - let me explain each step.
- I just bought my iMac, brand new last weekend, if it doesn't meet system requirements I'll eat my hat
- It wasn't the first thing I tried, but I have since run a "Software Update" which included updates for both Final Cut Express and Aperture... after they installed, I rebooted and Aperture still crashes on startup with the same message
- The Aperture first-aid-tools are irrelevant I'm afraid. If I didn't know any better, I'd say they didn't work at all - as holding Option/Command while starting Aperture makes no difference... but I suspect the crash happens before the tools get a chance to run
- Time Machine backups would also be irrelevant since this is a fresh install (what does "Restore the Library" mean anyway - what library?)
- Restoring Aperture back to its original settings is irrelevant since I haven't changed any
- I tried reinstalling Aperture, exactly as described. I deleted Aperture from Applications, went to the Mac AppStore and redownloaded it; rebooted; it still crashes in the same way
Here's more of the message below... and yes, as you can see, I've tried more than 50 times ;-(
If I have to reinstall the OS, I might just as well get a refund. I'd love to solve this, but I seriously hope reinstalling the OS is not required.
I just spent 3 days solving an issue where I couldn't download any apps from the AppStore at all, so please let me sell an iMac to my mother without explaining how long it takes to download 1 app and get it running on a brand new machine !

Can you help me with my Aperture Crash Report?
I have a 477GB Library that crashes after opening in Aperture. I have another much smaller 30GB library that doesn't crash after startup. I have Time Machine, SuperDuper and Vault backups, but I'm pretty sure I'd lose a little bit of data if I restore those, and I'd like to know what this crash report means to a trained eye.
Any help is appreciated!
Thanks!

If you can run without crashing in Firefox Safe Mode, the problem is likely hardware acceleration (related to your graphics driver) or one of your extensions. See [[Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems]]. -
IPhoto 8.1.2 crashes on startup
This issue just started a couple days ago. iPhoto 8.1.2 crashes at startup. Opening starts normally but only gets to the point that the blank iPhoto window pops up (no photos or menus shown) and then it crashes unexpectedly after only a few seconds. Have tried repairing disk permissions and trashing the plist. No success. Any suggestions?
May I offer another version of this problem...
This is was happened:
iPhoto 8.1.2 crashed while starting,
I used the rebuilt function (ALT+Command etc),
iPhoto rebuilt the library and told me that it is non compatible to the old library and has to rebuild it.
But after this process iPhoto 8.1.2 still crashes.
BUT: I always could see my photos, the places and faces, and correct sorting of the photos to the folders events by using iWeb, iMovie or when synchronizing my iPhoto Library with my iPhone. Only this new software iPhoto 8.1.2 was not able to use the existing library.
Then:
The apple telephone hotline recommended to recover the iPhoto Library from my Time Capsule using the program Time Machine. I was strictly recommended not to remove something from the preferences, otherwise I could loose the sorting of single photos into Events...
Now:
All pictures are present (= recovered from folder Originals), all changes are present (= from folder Modified) and all my photos are visible in iWeb, iMovie etc,
BUT each photo has turned now to a single own event,
and no faces or places are present any more.
I used your discussion on this site to late! I installed the program iPhoto Library Manager and learned, that the file Album Data is missing! This is needed to sort the single photos to Places, Faces and the Events.
RESULTS:
The backup by Time Machine was really bad.
iPhoto 8.1.2 still crashes.
I have still no solution.
Maybe I will buy Aperture and try to recover the Album Data information from the lost file.
Presumably I will have to sort approx. 9500 single photos.
First I will have coffee now... -
Crashing at startup after the 3.4.2 upgrade?
Looks like quite a few reviewers on the App Store have had problems upgrading to the recent Aperture update to 3.4.2, and it looks like a few folks here have had the problem as well. The problem's similar to one that we saw here a few months ago.
So, if Aperture's crashing at startup, delete and reinstall the Aperture application. Doing so will not affect any of your existing libraries or images.
There's an article on Apple's support site here if you need more info. It's written for 3.4, but it looks like it's applicable to 3.4.2 as well.Good advice, but one caution, Aye Es Oh;
the support article will apply, if you upgrade directly from an AP 3.3 version to 3.4.2, but not for upgrades from 3.4.1.
If the crash happens after upgrading from a working AP 3.4.1 I'd suspect to be more likely that the library needs fixing. -
Hi there, as the question says, I cannot open any Mozilla product. I have tried to install firefox 3.6, older versions of Firefox, Firefox 4.0, Sea Monkey, Thunder Bird and Sun Bird. I have the same problem everytime. I open any of these programs and the first and the only window that appears is the crash reporter. I've tried opening it in Safe Mode and the same occurs. I have tried entirely uninstalling the products incuding the registry keys but no help. I shall post the detailed error reports, if they help solving this issue. Can you kindly look into this and find a solution as I use all of these Mozilla products and my life has been a hell since they've ben down.

Same problem over here as well, FF 7 is ok but FF8 / FF9 and Thunderbird 8 / 9 crash on startup.
They both work if I start them in safe mode with everything enabled. -
I have a brand new HP dv8t laptop that is straight from the manufacturer 2 days ago.
Last night, I attempted to download and installed the latest version of Firefox. After installing, it worked great for an hour or so (3.4 different sessions).
Then, this morning when I came back to the computer, Firefox crashes at startup and gives me the option of finding a solution online or quitting the program.
How aggravating!
I have installed this same version on 2 other computers that I own, without any issue.
I have attempted to uninstall Firefox from the dv8 and reinstalling, to no avail.
I cannot find the crash report, but I do this see this message once the app crashes:

Please help! I cant stand iE anymore and I'm so lost without Firefox! You might try using the add-on 'NoSquint' which allows numerous zoom options specific to each page you visit & keeps your settings - https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/nosquint/
If you want to go back to 3.6x, you will find it here:
http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
In most cases you can simply "upgrade" (meaning downgrade) directly from the installation. It would be a good idea to save your passwords & bookmarks just to be on the safe side. -
Photoshop CS4 keeps crashing on startup
I've had CS4 on my iMac for at least 8 months or so now. All of a sudden it is crashing on startup. CS3 is also still on my machine and I tried to start up CS3 and it crashes. The seem to get through the whole loading process, the UI starts to display, and then they crash.
Also, I cannot uninstall either app. When I do Here is what goes into the event log:
2009-10-10 08:45:26.029 Setup[219] AuthorizationExecuteWithPrivileges failed with status: -60008
Don't know if this has something to do with the crash. Here is the crash report. Any help is much appreciated!

I can power up my iMac and start Photoshop no problem. However, if I power up my Epson 3800 printer and then start Photoshop I get the crash. I then have to run Macaroni after I start up my Epson 3800 and it finds a permissions problem in some obscure tmp file that it fixes. Then Photoshop will start fine. I have had this printer for over a year now and the problem just started a couple days ago. Not sure what has changed.

Photoshop CS4 crash on startup on Snow Leopard 10.6.2
Hello,
I can't run photoshop cs4 on my macbook: the dock icon jumps for a second and then disappears. I've downloaded the latest photoshop trial, installed it and it still crashes upon startup.
Here are the log messages from Console:
3/28/10 2:14:57 PM [0x0-0x3a03a].com.adobe.Photoshop[1033] /System/Library/Frameworks/Carbon.framework/Versions/A/Support/LaunchCFMApp[1033] Launch failed with error code -2857 (cfragCFragRsrcErr) for application /Applications/Adobe Photoshop CS4/Adobe Photoshop CS4.app/Contents/MacOS/Adobe Photoshop CS4
3/28/10 2:14:57 PM com.apple.launchd.peruser.501[217] ([0x0-0x3a03a].com.adobe.Photoshop[1033]) Exited with exit code: 215
I have white intel macbook, with Snow Leopard 10.6.2 installed.
Also I've noticed in Activity Monitor that photoshop process appears for a second and then disappears. What strange is that "kind" column displays PowerPC instead of Intel or Intel64.... But when I start Adobe Bridge CS4 (which works good) it displays Intel in "kind" column of Activity Monitor.
Please help...
Alex.I had this same problem with Photoshop CS5. I solved it simply by moving the application from the custom location I had given the Installer, /Applications/Graphics, to /Applications. Then Photoshop told me it had been moved and I had to update my config. It then could run. At this point, I quit and moved the application to my custom location, updated the config again, and it worked from there too. I suppose it needed to run the first time from /Applications.

Creative Cloud (app) crashes on startup after update
After the last update (which probably went wrong), creative cloud application (the menubar app) crashes on startup.
I've tried uninstalling (uninstaller stalls) and running Creative Cloud Cleanup Tool but to no avail.
Below I've included an excerpt of the crash report from the log (I could post the complete log report but that seems to cause troubles posting).
Anybody have any suggestions?
