Aperture Creating Doubles During Import

Hello,
Can someone help me determine why Aperture is creating doubles while importing photos? Within Aperture, the events only show single pictures but there are 2 copies of the same photo displayed within finder. Example:
DC101010.jpg
DC101010 (1).jpg
Some findings:
Happens on new files never imported and on files I've imported before (creating new events the 2nd time and unchecking "do not import duplicates")
Removing the file with a "(1)" in the name does not affect Aperture
The 2 files are identical in dates and size, with preview showing the same picture
Creating a new test library and importing did not fix the problem
Any ideas? Thanks.
Aperture 3.5.1
OS X 10.9.4
iMac

Happens on new files never imported and on files I've imported before (creating new events the 2nd time and unchecking "do not import duplicates")
Why are you "unchecking"  the "Do not import duplicates", if you do not want to import duplicates?
DC101010.jpg
DC101010 (1).jpg
Which of the two files are you seeing highlighted, when you use "File  > Reveal in Finder", when you select one of the image versions with duplicates?  It should be the "DC101010 (1).jpg"
The only way, i can reproduce your issue when importing referenced images, is when I use the Import setting
"Store Files" with the folder selected, where the photos to be imported are currently in and the "Copy files" option selected.
This will write a duplicate to the folder you are importing from, in the example above in the Pictures folder.

  • Aperture shut down during import

I started the import of photos from iPhoto to Aperture. Aperture shut down in the process. How do I upload only the photos that did not transfer? I tried import again, but it appears to want to upload the entire library again..

Have you done any work in the Aperture Library?  If not, just delete it and redo the import into a new Library.
This may be a good idea anyway, until you determine what caused Aperture to shut down during the last import.  Aperture allows you to easily merge Libraries.
Make a back-up of your iPhoto data first -- after confirming that nothing was harmed when Aperture shut down while importing.
Also, if you haven't upgraded your OS to the current version (you have 10.7.1 listed), you should.

  • Why is aperture 3.4 crashing during import after upgrade?

After running a typical upgrade from Software update on my mac I have had the problem of importing files into Aperture.
Exactly what happened and equipment used.  Used SD 45mbs 16gb SD card to import RAW images after a shoot.  This has been working and tested the day before update.  Was prompted to update to Aperture 3.4 along with another update for OSX.  After reboot I launched Aperture and was prompted to update library.  Next SD card was inserted, pictures showed up as previews, all were selected and checked to import all.  Application crashes see below.
    What I have tired.
    removed application
    removed preference files
    reinstalled application
was prompted for upgrade of library
once done inserted SD to import files
Same issue files show up but they do not import and same report comes up
have attempted multiple SD cards with no resolve.
Able to use disk on another computer with no issue.
    Someone please help

What Aperture version are you running exactly? Aperture 3.4 or 3.4.1? The 3.4.1 update has some important bug fixes. If you did not install  the last update, I'd recommend to update.
Some posters had problems with the image capture preferences, after upgrading to 3.4, and that caused troubles during import. Try if removing the image capture preference files helps:
To remove the image capture preferences:
If Aperture is running, quit Aperture,  and log off and on again.
Open your user library from the Finder's Go menu: Hit Command Shift G (⌘⇧G) and then type in: ~/Library/Preferences/  then hit return.
In the window that opens remove "com.apple.ImageCapture.plist"
and look into the subfolder "ByHost": if there are files named com.apple.ImageCapture  something.plist  remove them too.
    then try again.

  • Aperture Importer stalls during import - can I resume?

I tried to import my photos from Aperture to Lightroom using Adobe’s tool with no success. Every time I try, the import stalls after about 25-27% complete. To make sure I don't end up with duplicates in my new Lightroom catalog I deleted all the images that were imported (both in the LR catalogs as well as at the physical location on my NAS where I had copied them to as part of the migration process).
Is there a way to resume such a stalled import without producing duplicates in both LR and in the folder structure on my NAS or do I have to start all over from scratch (only to end up with another stall …)?

I haven’t seen this problem with my own eyes, but it’s not surprising. After all, Adobe’s developers are having to figure out what’s going on inside Aperture libraries, and Apple aren’t helping them!
My guess is that it’ll be something annoyingly simple – like odd text characters in metadata or an unusual file – which you may be able to fix in Aperture before doing the import again.
To see where the problem happened, in your Documents folder should be a LibraryImporter.log file. Double-click this file and it should open in the Console application, and the most recent entries might reveal information about where the problem occurred.

  • Aperture 3.6 - wrong image selected during import

    Aperture 3.6
    OS X Yosemite 10.10.1
    MacBook Air
I run a program at a guest ranch where we import photos from our guests into Aperture. We see multiple devices and have this issue randomly on many of them.
Lets choose an iPhone for the example. Connect the iPhone, go to import, select the device, choose 'Uncheck All'.
Now when scrolling through the images, the guest will select a photo, and at times the image next to it will be checked as well without being selected by the guest. Sometimes it it the first or second image that is automatically selected during import.
    Any ideas?
    Best,
    Lee

Problems with the UI can sometimes be resolved by removing the Preference file.
See Get help with Aperture 3 - Apple Support , scroll down until you see
    Reset the user preferences
and follow the directions. Note in step 5 Restart your computer if you're using OS X Mavericks that will apply if you are running Yosemite also.

  • Aperture crashes during import from DVD

After upgrading to ML and the latest upgrade to Aperture, I can't import photos from a DVD. DVD works with my MB.  Also Aperture has starting to quit unexpectingly.

It locks up while the previews(?) are being imported, the time when you can select the ones to import. I have to do a "force quit'. For a couple of times it hung on one photo, now it hangs on a different one. Around 3/4 way through a list of 900.  I imported the same disc on my MB no problems.
I only use one user account.

  • During import Aperature wont show all photos on memory card.

During import Aperature wont show all photos on memory card. Typically loads the previews of the first 15 photos only showing "loading assets" and spinning wheel. Running Aperature 3.2.3 on MBP 2.16 core duo 2gb ram importing from a SD card reader contining approx 300 nikon d3100 NEF files. Created a new user account and new library with same results.

Could be the card.  Transfer the files to your HD using Finder, and then import into Aperture.  All OK?
Then reformat your card in your camera, and see if the problem recurs.  Also: does it happen with other cards?  Does it happen with the card in the camera (instead of in your card reader)?

  • Backup during import vs vaults

Hi new to mac and aperture and curious to find out the best practice for storing, backup and restore of photos. Previously I would have stored my pics in folders and used a sync program to mirror them to a network drive but aperture prefers to have files imported into its iscsi like container and manage it all from one place. This has presented a few issues for me,
    1. I can no longer see my backup of pics from a media or windows device on the network, so my get around will have to be to export folders periodically as a separate archive on the network.
    2. Space is not a premium but I fear the aperture library creates a backup during import to a folder called aperture which I guess is the library itself. Now I am no expert but a backup inside a production library does not make much sense
    3. Vaults synced to a network drive seems the most practical solution but again vaults store the pics in the folder names. This is a problem for me as I catalogue my projects by year and my albums by events during the year. If I open the vault all my albums are showing but in one big group.
    4. Finding this all very confusing with a lot of conflicting info all over the web, maybe someone can advise and give me a clear picture once and for all on how all the backup options should work together both for backup and for restore and possibly for sharing over the network from all types of computer.
    Tar!

You can use Aperture with remotely stored images rather than importing the originals. This is known as working with referenced images. This is probably going to be slower to use depending on your network speed and external drive types. But this method may better satisfy your archiving and accessibility needs requirements.
You can create multiple Libraries such as one for each year. Aperture can split and merge libraries now.
There are several recent posts (essays should I say) from great experts on this forum where solid advice and best practice is described regarding the kind of system you want to employ.

  • Separation of RAW and jpeg formats during import?

    Hi everyone,
I'm new to Mac and more specifically iPhoto 11.......having fun though!!
Does anybody know whether iPhoto has the functionality to separate or create sub folders for both RAW and jpeg picture formats during importing?
This would save a fair bit of time manually moving photos between folders!!
I believe Aperture has the ability but I'm not ready to upgrade just yet.
    Any help greatly appreciated.
    Cheers
    Craig

    No it doesn't.
    Some possibilities:
    1. Use Smart Albums to separate them
    2. Remember that when you import a Raw to iPhoto it automatically creates a Jpeg preview. So, now you have two jpegs of the same Raw. Do you need to shoot both Raw and Jpeg?

  • Power of File Naming during import

Can you append the HH (Hour) MM (Minute) SS (Second) that the photo was shot to the name while importing?
I have read that Aperture will not allow files to be renamed after in the Library to follow along with being non destructive. However I do not see renaming files or appending Meta Data in IPTC as being destructive and should not be ignored if the Photographer desires that to be part of his/her workflow.
I am sure that some third party programmers will write Automator scripts to accomplish many of the things that Aperture will be lacking in.
I am curious as to the power and functionality of Naming digital files as they are imported. I know that they can be tagged with YYMMDD. I have Read the Getting Started but want to know if HHMMSS can be appended also. I have searched the Internet for a naming convention that is very flexible and unique. When files are imported you do not know and can not say what is in each file, so better renaming and IPTC editing should be support post import. I do not consider preImport or during the best place to do this in Post Production. I think this can best be accomplished after using Aperture's Great Meta tagging tools.
I have accepted for for the majority of my workflow that Files should only be named once, and only tagged with a different name on an export. (Like appendning some Keywords).
I used to use a Random, Sequentually generated SN, but think now that the Date is nearly Unique (execpt Multiple Shots a second, or from other cameras at the same time.) I think that this SN to be tagged on the photo is more helpful.
Does any body recommend a powerful naming convention for digital image files?
Here is the naming Scheme that I am thinking of.
    YYMMDD-HHMMSSx.CR2
X - is 0 through 9 to account for multiple shots a second.
I was planning on using the sequential numbering. This will allow me to easily speak out differenced between multiple files in a stack by speaking the last number which will usually be unique.
I have also thought about YYMMDD-ABC-HHMMSSx.cr2 (ABC would identify the roll) which is similar to what I have used, but I am do not like ABC now because it might mislead me or not mean anything at all.
What is everybody using, and what is working for you???
    (and again)
Can you append the HH (Hour) MM (Minute) SS (Second) that the photo was shot to the name while importing?
    PowerMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

Yes, after playing with it at home, I confirm the same things. All of the - (dashes) and .(dots) and 'PM' is wasteful, and aperture will not even show that full name.
Naming is a Huge deal. The photos will not be in Aperture forever, and when they come back out during an export or whatever, they should be how you want them. Not having control makes using aperture as a Library for your photos and projects weak.
If Aperture starts at the import from digital media, then naming happens only after that point. If I have to rename files before importing them into aperture then, I have to skip Aperture's first Steps.
When I name photos I have in the past tagged some keywords to the file name. Stacks and smart albums would do great to help, but after I put all of the work into naming and organizing, the filenames can not be set to what I want them to be.
This means that I would still have to use a 3rd party app to organize sort and name all photos then import to aperture.
Now the Stacks functionality, and keyword tagging can be skipped in Aperture. What is left are versions, working with RAW and smart albums. And Spotlight would do just as good of a job searching for photos this way.
I do not want to knock Aperture, but I have to accept that it is a learning curve. I need to learn what it can do for me to save time. And I need to learn what it will not do so that I can stay away from it. I was really looking forword to it being my post production SW.
I would like for something like this.
    YYMMDD-HHMMSSx-Grouping Keyword(IPTC)-1 of 7(in stack)
This would use the Keyword and IPTC That you work hard to set in aperture, and also the stacking. Then when they are exported to clients, or for backup, web, or use when aperture has reached EOL, then it can be very useful.
I like that iPhoto has 3rd party extensions to use Keywords to Save in photo or extract from photo to add to iPhoto Library. I am a little more afraid of Aperture because it is a closed system. If a 3rd party app sets keywords to a photo or renames it, what info would be lost in Aperture.
Thanks for all of the thougts.

  • Problem during import of 121 transport requests to productive system

    Hello
We have problem during import of transport requests to productive system. Import of 121 transport requests stopped very soon in phase "N" (in TRBAT I have only one entry and in  TRJOB  as well).
In sm50 there is an BGD running under user DDIC in client 000 now for 14453 seconds (program SAPLSDB2). This should be import.
In SM37 I can see it as  job "RDDGEN0L" with  repport"RDDGENBB". Based on some literature it should perform "Converting all structure changes generated by the import and recorded in table TBATG, other than the structure changes to matchcode objects." Very interesting  that TBATG has only four entries related to 2 indexes in table "DFKKOPK" , one in table "DFKKREP06" and one" ENQU" for EFKKEXC". (only this last one has not status error)
For fist two indexes I know they are not present  as objects "LIMU""INDX" in any transport request beeing imported.
Also on productive system there is no"VOL" and "ZOL"indexes for table "DFKKOPK"(instead they are created on test system ie. not transported from development to test system)
Last command for that process is "CREATE INDEX "DFKKOPK~HKO" ON "DFKKOPK" ("MANDT", "HKONT", "OPBEL") PCTFREE 10 INITRANS 002 TABLESPACE PSA
    PTR3 STORAGE (INITIAL 0000000016 K NEXT 0000000016 K MINEXTENTS 0000000001 MAXEXTENTS UNLIMITED PCTINCREAS"
There is enaught space on disk and in tablespaces (it is an oracle/HPux server).
Does anyone knows workaroun to solve production

are you importing these transport requests simultaneously into production?
I would suggest you try doing in smaller groups of 5 or 10 and then see whether you are able to import the requests

  • Error during import of business object BOREPMA (crystal reports)

    Dear Colleagues,
we have a problem with importing of crystal reports into productive system,
export works fine - I get .car files, but import finished with error : "Error occurred in data conversion".
We could not find any reason for this error..... may be someone had same issue in the past?
How can I check what happens in background during import?
Thank you very much for response

    Hi Nick,
our problem is following: we changed *existing crystal report* on development workstation, and trying to import to q-workstation, as it was not possible, we made changes on q-workstation and trying to import to productive-workstation. We don't have crystal report designer on productive workstation and it is a reason why we can not create new report with same name as you suggested (on productive workstation).
In general, how should crystal reports be transferred between different systems (development, test,, productive) if you have crystal report designer only on development system? We think the export-import function can do this, but there is a data conversion error.... OSS message is created since 9 month, we don't get really solution from SAP...
Did you had the same problem or you have crystal report designer on productive workstation and can change coding there?
    Thank you very much
    Best rehgards

  • "An Error Occurred During Import"

I am importing video from a Canon Vixia HF10 HD CMOS camcorder into iMovie 08. After the thumbnails are created, I select the clips I want and click on Import. I tried in a a Large (960x540) and Full (1920x1080) format and receive the same error message - "An Error Occurred During Import." I am then instructed to check the footage carefully and try again.
What could be causing this error?

I had exactly the same problem in loading files from by HF10 onto my iMac but I didn't have the same problem on my Macbook. So I tried to copy the clips from my Macbook onto the iMac but imovie on the iMac wouldn't recognise them ...
This suggested to me that the problem was with the Imac's version of imovie being unable to read the file types from the HF10.
I had, in parallel, been trying to fix an error shown when iMovie on the imac starts up :
"The QuickTime components necessary to view, edit, import, and export several kinds of movies are not installed. These components are included with the iMovie installer; please re-install"
The discussion and solution to this problem can be found under the "Missing QuickTime Components" discussion on this site however to save you time I have copied below fgalvani70's solution (Bravo !) which works perfectly ... both the missing component issue and the import issue are now perfectly resolved !!
1 - install software Pacifist (http://www.charlessoft.com/) (it's shareware but you can use without problems)
2 - Insert Original Apple installation disk
iMovie '08 missed a Quicktime Component called: “AppleIntermediateCodec.component”. This component is necessary for importing movies in iMovie 08.
So, just let Pacifist read the Install DVD and extract only the ‘AppleIntermediateCodec.component’ to the default directory.
    It's under Contents of BundledSoftware.mpkg -> Contents of AppleIntermediateCodec.pkg -> Library -> QuickTime
    Select AppleIntermediateCodec.component and click Install

  • I have an iPhoto library with only Jpeg's in it. I just installed Aperture 3.5 and imported several RAW photos. Shouldn't I now have an Aperture library?

I have an iPhoto library with only Jpeg's in it. I just installed Aperture 3.5 and imported several RAW photos in Aperture. Shouldn't I now have an Aperture library?

Should I create an Aperture library and import all of my photos from iPhoto to the new Aperture library? Then delete my iPhoto library entirely?  Just trying to get my library structure correct from the get-go as I plan to shoot only in RAW.
That is not an easy question. There are still a few glitches with the unified library approach. For example, the new iWork applications will not yet show the Aperture library in the Media Browser, only the current iPhoto library. If you are using iWork with your photolibrary, keep it an iPhoto library.
And it is unclear, what will happen, when Aperture or iPhoto will be upgraded to newer versions. Right now you need the latest iPhoto version to be able to upgrade older iPhoto libraries, if you want to open them in Aperture. So probably you will need to upgrade iPhoto as well, if you keep your library an iPhoto library, when both Aperture and iPhoto will be upgraded to Aperture 4 and iPhoto 12.0 or similar. In the long run it will be safer to convert the library to an Aperture library, if you do not want to keep updating iPhoto, but that can wait.
If you want to convert the iPhoto library to an Aperture library, back up your iPhoto library.
Then create a new Aperture library (with File > Switch to Library > Other/New ) and then import your iPhoto library into Aperture using the command "File > Import > Library" and select your iPhoto library.
You will need plenty of space on the drive with the new library. Merging a library into another one will  temporarily a lot of working space and may take a long time - several hours for a large library, without visible progress.

  • Issue during import

    Hi,
I am trying to import a tbale from a dump which I have already taken backup. But during import I am getting the below error message:
IMP-00019: row rejected due to ORACLE error 1
    IMP-00003: ORACLE error 1 encountered
    ORA-00001: unique constraint (LDDEV.ABHSET1) violated
Please suggest me the required solution.
    Thanks

if the table that you are importing was empty before you beginning you probably created or updated a unique constraints and that constraint is rejecting duplicated registers.
If the table was not empty you must empty it.
