Sean,
Welcome to the Discussions.
In addition to any update to Aperture, have you also installed the update for Camera RAW 2.7? It is the update that includes the D300s -- it updates iPhoto as well as Aperture. It was released in December, and distributed via Software Update.

  • Aperture 2.0 Corrupt export on D300 RAW image?

I've been experimenting with Aperture 2.0 to see if I want to upgrade my 1.5.2 install, and have run into a problem where an image looks just fine in Aperture but when I try exporting it (JPEG or TIFF, 8 or 16 bit) there's terrible banding and corruption in the background.
    http://www.cheeseplant.org/~daniel/images/BadApertureExport.jpg
Has anyone else had a chance to play around with adjustments on D300 raw images and have they run into anything like this?

I was having the same problem, this was my older post:
I have been seeing many artifacts after starting to export from Aperture 2.0,
    Camera used canon 5D
    1. I see color pixel that are not visible in raw, or processes with Capture one
    http://boinghost.com/aperture/pixel.jpg
    2. A banding problem separated the picture in 3 sections..
    http://boinghost.com/aperture/banding.jpg
    has anybody a solution?
I don't see it with in the application, i think that is a bug that need fixing.
it should not show in the exported image if it doesn't show in Aperture, even if you take the recovery slider to maximum.

  • Lightroom doesn't recognize ACR 5.5 and my D300s RAW images

Lightroom 2.4 does not recognize my Nikon D300s RAW images. I downloaded ACR 5.5 and after install both Bridge and Photoshop CS4 handle the D300s RAW images but my Lightroom 2.4 will not import them saying that it is a damaged or unrecognized file type. I have rebooted my entire Vista system and the problem persists. Any suggestions on how I might make Lightroom recognize ACR 5.5 and my D300s RAW images? Thanks in advance.

You don't want Camera Raw 5.5 (unless you want to use Photoshop CS4), you want the DNG Converter 5.5 which can convert the D300 raws into DNGs that are compatible with Lightroom 2.4. The next version of Lightroom (presumable 2.5) will have the support built in without needing the DNG Conversion...

  • Nikon D300 Raw Images and Lightroom 1.4.1

My updated 1.4.1 Lightroom and 4.4.1 Camera Raw are not reading the raw images from my new Nikon D300. I have read several strings of conversation from other folks who are having this problem, and from what I am reading, my 1.4.1 Lightroom should be recognizing them, but it's not. Any help would be MOST appreciated.

Before you even answered I transferred the files from my camera card to my hard drive, and presto bingo, they are now importing beautifully into lightroom. THANK YOU LEE JAY!!!!! Frank Leonard - [email protected]

  • Does Aperture support RAW 3F (*.fff) file format?

I am scanning all of my film with a Hasselblad FlexTight F1 scanner. I saved the files in their RAW format called 3F (*.fff). I am completely schocked that Aperture doesn't recognize the file format. After all, isn't Apple selling Aperture as "Professional Applications"? Hmm, what is more professional than scanning film with a $15,000 FlextTight scanner?
What are they thinking, or what am I missing? I just don't get it.

Well, if you look closely at the technical specifications (http://www.apple.com/aperture/specs/raw.html), you'll see that Aperture is meant for digital images taken with a digital camera and not for scans, sorry.
Wide Support for RAW Formats from Leading Cameras
Aperture 3 supports the RAW formats from more than 150 digital cameras and camera backs. Aperture also lets you work with most DNG files.1 Shoot JPEG? Using Aperture, you can import JPEG images from virtually all digital cameras.
As a work-around, try another lossless format for your scans. Are your scans very large? Then you may possibly run into another problem because of the file size. I am having frequently problems with Aperture being unresponsive, if the image file size of my scans is close to 1 GB.

  • Aperture Recognizing RAW images from newest Canon Camera S95?

Aperture (3) will not recognize the RAW images form my Canon S95 -- anyone know how to fix this or will Apple come out with an fix? It recognizes RAW from my Canon Xsi. Also iPhoto won't recognize it either.

RAW support - for any camera - comes from the "Digital Camera Raw Compatibility Update" components. These provide central support for any application that reads photo files. The currently supported cameras are listed here:
    http://www.apple.com/aperture/specs/raw.html
In case you're interested, the most recent releases are:
    http://support.apple.com/downloads/#digital%20camera%20raw%20compatibility%20upd ate%203
will Apple come out with an fix?
For Canon, almost certainly. Unfortunately, your only recourse is patience - nobody here can tell you when the next release will be made.

  • Yosemite and Canon RAWs - Random "Unsupported File Format"

It all started with Yosemite betas, random raw files in Aperture would pop up with the dreaded "Unsupported File Format" graphic. I tried a lot of stuff, rebuild the library, delete prefs, etc. Nothing work. I tried exporting the raws and neither iPhoto or Preview would open them. Downloaded the LightRoom 5 trial and it opens the files fine. OK, tried Aperture on a laptop with Mavericks, the files open fine there too.  So it looks like it is something in the way that MacOS is handling
Any ideas? Now with the final release of Yosemite and Aperture 3.6 trying to open one of these file just crashes the software. I can't really say I like LightRoom but if I have to move on, I guess I will.

What version of iPhoto is it?
The issue is that the OS provides RAW support, but the applications need to leverage it. Aperture 1.5.6 is old: Aperture 2.0 came out in March of 2008 so there hasn't been an update to Aperture 1.5 since 2007-ish. It is unlikely that any cameras that shipped since then will ever be supported in Aperture 1.5.x.
The improvements/advantages to going with Aperture 3.1 over 1.5 are huge (assuming you have a capable machine) and well worth it.

  • Editing RAW Images (NEF file)

    Hi
I'm having trouble with editing RAW images from my Nikon D3000. This is my first time shooting in RAW so I have no idea what to do.
I've downloaded the DNG Converter from Adobe and converted all my files to DNG. However, when I opened them on Photoshop Elements 4.0, they turned out VERY grainy! (Even though all the shots are clear when viewed on my camera)
Also, I could not save my files as JPG (After converting them to DNG). The only options were TIFF, PNG, JPF (?).
Please help as the photos are quite important.
    Thank you.

What version of the dng converter did you download?
What operating system are you using?
It's hard to judge how much noise are in the photos from the camera LCD screen.
Also, if you took the photos at high ISO settings or had the auto setting on, the camera may have used a high iso which can produce more noise.
Do you have a copy of Nikon View NX2 so you can get an idea of what the raw photos should look like?

  • Aperture Destroying Raw Images!?

There are countless posts or threads about this particular issue but none have seemed to garner much concern. These threads all seem to mention their cameras. I have found 2 to 3 different brands including NIKON, CANON, PENTAX. So, I have concluded from this... ITS NOT THE CAMERA!!! It is something in Apertoys Raw capabilities.
Raw images are having some sort of "PRESET" added to them after import. What is causing this? How can it be fixed, and why has apple not responded to this?
I have seen many helpful responses to some of these threads but nothing close to an answer other than maybe countless hours of troubleshooting. Although this seems to be a fantastic place for helpful individuals and I am grateful for Apple giving us this forum, one question still looms?
This is directed to Apple and Aperture engineers: How do I know as a consumer, that or if you people whom wrote this software, acknowledge that there is a flaw or possible bug that you are aware of that NEEDS attention? The software is fairly inexpensive when you compare it to my financial losses while using it!
That being said: Anyone have any helpfull suggestions?

Thank you CalxOddity! This is occurring with two of my cameras D70 and D5000. This is an exact example of what is happening in kb8wfh's thread. I am referencing this thread because of the utube video. He is shooting with a Pentax but this is down to the T what I am experiencing. I have No presets applied. Thank you in advance!
I have had a huge issue since upgrading to 3.3.2 and the upgrade to the RAW decoder. I shoot Pentax platforms (K-7, K-200 & K-x). I only shoot RAW and this problem NEVER happened before the Aperture update/RAW update. I stop the automatic processing, otherwise, it goes through each photo and darkens and shift the colors significantly. If I open a previous library (ones I created even years ago) it will preprocess the master images AND all the subsequent versions - Thus I refuse to even open my old libraries for Aperture ruining my work.
Here is a brief view of exactly what it is doing:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9VTMedUrhVo&feature=share&list=UU2vsk3mVVJnIJ83v1 rFo7aw
Also, when Aperture "Processes" the image, it is clear it that it as a JPG master/original image. The data simply isn't there anymore to use adjustments like "recovery." When you try and do so, it just dulls/grays The entire image instead of adjusting the highlights.
I need to know where I can get previous version of the RAW engine and install it into Aperture. How can this be done?
Apple really screw this thing up...infuriating since it was working just fine before. My livelihood is on hold because the app I use and am bound to has turned form a pro tool to one of the iToy applications

  • All raw images unsupported from 20D (.CRW or .DNG)?

    Hello all,
I just imported 5,486 picture files in two formats: .JPG and .DNG, taken with two cameras, a Sony DSC-P10 point and shoot, and (the great majority) a Canon EOS 20D. The DNG files were converted from their .CR2 source files.
Aperture is showing 4,670 of the DNG files - all of them - as unsupported image format. I re-imported 100 of the original .CR2 raw files, and indeed, I get the same result.
I can view the imported files in Preview and iPhoto just fine. Adobe Camera Raw 2.4 (Photoshop 8) has no problems with them. However, despite the fact that the 20D is apparently supported, Aperture is not working with the 20D files in their original .CR2 or the converted .DNG. I'm at a loss.
Interestingly enough, when doing a file import, Aperture properly shows all the thumbnails and will stack them as well. Actually, it's not quite properly; the thumbnails are actually square and not auto-rotated, instead of the usual 3:2 or 2:3 aspect ratio.
Does anyone have any thoughts about what I could to, possibly, to restore these photos to work with Aperture and to be fully functional?
    Thanks,
    Doug

    Hello again,
This is a related thread, it would seem:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=1261853&#1261853
It suggested quitting Aperture and restarting it. I did this. Now, previously imported images can be viewed. It takes about 10-30 seconds after selecting an image which was previously an "unsupported image format" image and shows up as a gray square to show a preview. Unfortunately, the preview is not properly rotated - it's always in landscape format despite the rotation hints in the file.
Importing a few more images imported properly, preview and rotation. I imported 7 .CR2 files into a new project and it was fine. However, I switched back to my previous (broken) project and then back to the working project, and my photos have disappeared. The sidebar still shows (7) versions in the project, but selecting the project shows no thumbnails nor pictures in the list view either. That's even more mysterious. Quitting and restarting Aperture did not bring those 7 photos back. They are in there, in the .aplibrary, but the UI doesn't show them. Indeed, after quitting and restarting, now the "were being fixed by clicking on them and waiting" images are back to permanently unsupported image format. So, I've not really gotten any further.
    Very frustrating.
    Thanks,
    Doug

  • Aperture books: raw images

I want to create a book using Aperture and have Apple print it. My photos are a mix of raw and jpeg. Do I ned to invert the edited Raw photos to jpeg to be able to order the book?

Just don't forget to preview the book as described here:
iPhoto, Aperture: Previewing an order in iPhoto or Aperture
Check, if you are happy with the way the RAWs have been developed, and keep the pdf file  of the preview, until you'll receive the printed copy.

  • Can you open a RAW image from Aperture in CS3?

CS3 has some helpful "tweaks" in its Camera Raw Screen including Fill Light, Recovery, and Vibrance.
Is it possible to open an Aperture stored RAW image using external editor or some other method in CS3?
I am probably missing somehitng big time, but the way I used CS3 RAW as by exporting the master image to another location and then opening it in CS3.
    Thanks Dan

I actually first place my images onto a remote drive and import them into iView Media Pro and do ratings and keywords. That gives me total flexibility. images that require Photoshop modifications are dealt with first to avoid the dual Version/Master issue in Aperture. For these images I do my RAW processing in Photoshop. I then import the folder into Aperture and live happily ever after.

  • IPhoto 7.1 won't import .CR2 (RAW) image files

I'm shooting with a Canon 30D, and had no problem importing RAW images (.CR2 files) into iPhoto 08. However, after installing the update for iPhoto 7.1, I get an error message saying that the .CR2 file type isn't recognized. What the ****?
Is anyone else experiencing this problem?

My understanding is that iPhoto is able to read RAW files that the underlying OS can handle (which is why you see updated RAW compatibility added with various OS updates).
    I have a 30D and have upgraded to 7.1
I just opened a folder of CR2 files and dragged and dropped into iPhoto and they imported fine. I have not tried downloading direct from camera as I tend to copy things over using a card reader.
So, in terms of troubleshooting, I suggest:
1 - can you see open the CR2 using preview? If not sounds like an OS issue.
2 - can you see thumbnails of the CR2 if they're in a folder somewhere? If not consider if the CR2 are corrupted.
3 - If no to 2, then can you open the images using other (Canon) software?
If yes to 1 and 2, the it's likely to be an iPhoto issue.

  • Nikon D300 RAW and PSE 5.0 (Win)

I have just started to process my Nikon D300 RAW images in my ACR / PSE 5.0 (Win) installation.  The RAW conversion works OK but when I want to remove the actual RAW files from my computer to store elsewhere, the computer will not let me move or delete them because "they are being used by another program or person."
I have also noticed other strange goings on with these RAW files sometimes causing PSE to freeze.
A quick check with the Process Explorer diagnostic tool from Microsoft indicates that something called Photoshop Elements File Agent.exe is still running in the background.  Is this a problem of the RAW files themselves or PSE?  Has any other user met this?  I have backed up "My Catalog", restarted my computer and uninstalled / reinstalled my PSE 5.0 to no avail.
    Any help gratefully received!

    Hi dj_paige
    1. Sorry but Windows XP (SP3).
    2. My current RAW workflow involves deleting the
NEF RAW files from the PSE Organiser after
conversion, copying / backing up the NEF files to
an external HDD (which works OK) and then moving
    them (via standard Windows Explorer
drag-and-drop) from the "Download" folder to an
"Archive" folder on my computer internal hard
drive.  I got the same error message when I tried
to delete them from the "Download" folder.  My
son, who works in computers, put me onto the
Microsoft "Process Explorer" utility, to try and
find which program was still using the files.
    3. I have had no problems with this workflow with
my previous Nikon D70.  My suspicions about the
D300 RAW files arose when the problem happened
with the first one I tried to move / delete.
    4. The other "strange goings on" relate to trying
to reopen one of the affected D300 NEF RAW files
back into PSE Editor.  My PSE5 installation just
stopped.  Today, after having reinstalled my PSE
software, when trying to import one of the
affected D300 NEF RAW files back into PSE
Organiser, I got an error message relating to
"Memory".  As this is all somewhat vague, I will
try to recreate and note the error messages received.
I look forward to any progress on this matter.
    Kind Regards
    Adrian Law

    Ideas or suggestions?
    Thanks
    Frank

I have made a few more observations.
I can actually open Camera Raw if I click the "Open in Camera Raw..." icon i Bridge.
In Camera Raw I can save files as .psd for example, and also open them in Photoshop. I still get the error when I try to open Camera Raw settings.
