Aperture deleted my photos

After updating my girlfriends aperture library from Aperture 2 to 3, all but 4 pictures are gone. The library had more than 260 gb of files. The library hierarchy is still there but all the maps are empty. Ofcoase i made a backup before updating (lucky me :-) but what to do to make it work?

I had already tried to rebuild the library, but i could only do it through aperture 2
The Aperture 3 release notes strongly advise you to rebuild the Aperture library before upgrading to Aperture 3. See the link below. You have to scroll down a long way, before finding this piece of advice.

Unfortunately, most people discover that the Aperture Library is corrupted only after upgrading, and than it will be too late - tfor hen they have no longer the previous version of the program and a backup of the library, so that they can go back and rebuild the library before upgrading.

Aperture Deleting Flickr Photos

The Problem
1. I created a flickr album in A3 with 115 photos
2. The album published to Flickr as expected
3. I dragged two more photos to the flickr album in Aperture
4. Then all the other photos in the Flickr album disappeared (they're still in the aperture library), and were deleted from Flickr.com, leaving only the two newly added photos. Needless to say, this *****.
This is a critical error in my case and I simply can't use Aperture with this behavior. I'm afraid to even open the library as this is the 2nd time this has occurred. Can anyone help?
If anyone can help answering these questions, I'd be grateful
1) Can I "disconnect" the album in A3 from Flickr, without deleting the images on flickr.com?
2) On flickr.com, is there a way to de-authorize Aperture so it can't delete my photos?

I am using Iphoto version 9.5.1, and No I am not deleting any photo from any file. what happens is this :- I open up Iphoto and enter my flickr account via the shared folder icon on the left hand side of the screen this is when I get a pop up screen from Iphoto informing me that they have removed a SET of photos from my Flickr account (no reason given) when i go into that set all I can see is dashed empty square where the photo used to be. I will then get another pop up screen saying that Iphoto can no longer access my flickr account and will I permit a reconnection and allow Iphoto to access my flickr account (add pass words etc) when I get back into flickr the SETS have gone and all other photos enter the Pending stage again. After re uploading the missing photos I find that some 50% of them have been duplicated.

Did you copy the files into the Aperture Library on Import?
If so, it's safe to do so. My tip: wait a few weeks until you're happy that you're committed to Aperture.
Drag the iPhoto Library from the Pictures Folder to the trash.

How can I delete a photo from aperture but keep it on my computer

I recently purchased A3 from the App Store and have begun migrating photos to its program.
It's also given me a chance to go through and see which photos I would rather not have in A3 but I don't want to delete totally. So here's my question:
When I delete a photo from A3 is there a way to keep the original in it's location but just not pulled into A3's database? I tend to keep files where they are and even though I don't want it in A3, I still want to keep the photo on my external database. Yes, I could just select one photo at a time to incorperate but I just wanted to do a select all and then hand filter out in post.

When the Master of an Image in your Aperture Library is located anywhere outside of that Library, it is called a "Referenced Master". Aperture gives you complete control of your Images' Masters -- you can relocate them, consolidate them, reconnect them, etc.
Every Image has a Master. The Master is a file on a drive. When you delete the last Image in a Library that uses a Master, Aperture will ask you if you want to delete the Master file as well. For your purposes, say "No".
You should probably experiment with a practice Library and make sure you end up with a workflow that meets your needs. One thing Aperture can't do is mark which files in Finder are Masters. To group your files by "Master/not-Master" in Finder, you will have to go into Aperture and move all of the Masters to another location. The files left are not Masters.
Note that Aperture puts deleted Masters in the System trash. They are put in a folder named after your Library -- I think -- in any case they are easy to identify. Until you empty the system trash, they are available from there.
All of which begs the question: why keep the Master but remove it from your Library? You could simply create an Album (or a Project, depending on your use of Projects) called "Archive", and put all of those Images there.

Howto restore deleted files/photos from aperture (backup =time machine)

Hi there, I'm following up on a thread I posted under 'time-machine' discussion forum (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=12158758#12158758)
Problem: I incidentally deleted some photos that shouldn't have been deleted. I'm using 'time-machine' and wonder how can I restore those images?
As I recall, there is one file (as in database) for aperture that store all photos init. Is there a 'trick' to get yesterday's file and resurrect the lost photos?

are the files in the Aperture trash?
Do you use the vault feature of Aperture or just Time Machine?
If you only use Time Machine the files will be in there, get back to us on the first couple and if it is only Time Machine some one here can step you through how to retrieve the files.

There is no simple way. The best strategy really is to take care not to import duplicates.
What is your Aperture 3 version?
What kind of duplicates are you asking about?
If you imported exactly the same file multiple times, sorting your images in the Finder by filename or creation date will display them side by side.
If you have diferently sized versions of the same image, edited versions, or versions converted to a different format, then sorting by creation date will not help; you might try to sort by capture date, but that may fail, if there were different imezone settings when you imported the images.
You could also sort be filename, if you did not rename the images on import.
If you renamed your versions, adjusted the date, modified the file properties by writing to the original files, try to sort by other tages - faces, location, keywords.
There are some helper applications to scan your Aperture library and tag duplicates: (I have not really tested any of them)

Aperture Deleting photos from Flikr

Hi all,
I need help reguarding Aperture.
I just downloaded the trial and have linked my Flikr account to aperture and began importing photos. All was fine and dandy till I noticed one of the flikr albums that had been shown in aperture previously was missing.
To my great dissmay, it is now missing also completely from my flikr account on the web also. I never clicked delete in fact I was using other applications whilst my photos went about their buisness importing. So how come aperture has deleted my photos from Flikr without my involvement?!?! It didn't even ask to confirm I wanted to delete which is generally one of those annoying features of such programs. I state again, I did not do it by accident! I wasn't using aperture it was only when I went to check it's progress that I noticed it missing!
I would appreciate any help resolving this issue as it is very frustrating for a program to go about deleting my photos at random.
Gah!! Just checked and its deleting more as I write this!! I have cancelled aperture's rights to my flikr account.
Come on apple, this is just ridiculous!!
Now I need a way of getting my photos back, don't get me wrong I have backups but if I can restore them in a more convenient manner I would be happier.
Anyway, thats it, if anyone else has had a similar problem please let me know as to how they solved it!

Owen. Finally got to run that test and you are right: CMD-Delete removes the photo from all albums and puts it in the trash; just Delete removes the photo from the currently-visible album but leaves it intact everywhere else.
In the case of Smugmug however, just using Delete removes it from the album in Aperture, but *not* from the album on the Smugmug website, even after syncronizing the album via Aperture. This seems like a bug — the Aperture version of a Smugmug album and the website version of that Smugmug album should be identical after you syncronize them.
Please let me know if you have any thoughts about why the albums won't remain in-sync when using Delete. Thx!!

i had the problem because i connected ext. drive to my macpro and thousands of photos downloaded, which i want to delete, but not interfer with my iphoto

How do I delete imported photos on the iPad in less then 2000 clics?

Hi.
I've been using the iPad to collect photos form my digital cameras.
I have a few thousand of such photos on my iPad.
Today I wanted to delete them (because they take a lot of memory and are synched anyway after correction).
I could only find how to delete them by selecting them one by one on the iPad .
On the Mac, I use Aperture, which has no option (AFAIK) for deleting imported photos.
How stupid is that that you can import thousands of photos on the iPad and not delete them in under 1000 clics?
I just found out that I still have iPhoto on my Mac, so I am going to import pictures from the iPad to iPhoto and use the option to delete them.
Anyone with a less ridiculous solution?

The import photo albums generated using the CCK are accessable just like the "Saved Photos" album.

Why does it take one minute to delete a photo?

Most times, but not all, it takes about a minute to delete a photo. I get the colorful spinning ball, freezing up Aperture for that amount of time, before it's free again. This also happens doing other odd tasks, such as cropping, making adjustments, etc.
This is beyond just "needing more RAM" or "cleaning out the hard drive". I have 4GB on a brand new 15" MBP, and I have at least 20% of my drive free, so I'm set up for if not optimal performance, then at least passable.
Something is going terribly wrong here. The thing is, this happend on my old MBP (3 years old) and now again on this one (brand new). I'm wondering if something might be wrong with my Aperture LIBRARY.
Thoughts?

If you think there might be a problem with your library the safest course of action for you to take is to one make sure you have a good working backup of your library and then to run the library first aid procedures show at Aperture 3: Troubleshooting Basics
As far as your system setup goes, 4gb is the bare minimum that will give reasonable performance, moving up to 8gb will most likely improve performance. You can check this out by running Activity Monitor and monitoring the swap/page outs stats.
Is the deletes that hang deleting both the master and version or only the version? Where is the library and masters stored, internal HD, external, referenced managed, etc.
Try to narrow down the circumstances that cause this to happen.

iPhoto? I'm not sure why you are referring to iPhoto.
Because I want to be able to edit the Photo Stream on my Mac using a decently sized screen. Most of the pictures in my Photo Stream are added when I import from my camera on one of my macs, and I use the stream to transfer them to my other macs.
But thanks for pointing out that you now can edit the stream on your mobile devices as well, very helpful, but I like to see an image at a better resolution before I delete it.
I didn't try deleting from Aperture, but I assume it would work the same. Did you try deleting your photos in Aperture first? That didn't work?

Until recently it has been impossible to edit the Photo Stream on any device; since day before yesterday you can do it in iPhoto, but still not in Aperture.

I can look at my photos on my Iphone like a hard drive and copy and paste the photos to my computer. I can then delete a batch at a time on the Iphone camera roll. However, how do I delete the 242 photos in my "photo library" album and the 242 duplicate photos in my "Iphone photo" album? When I click on the arrow box icon in the upper right corner of my phone, I can click on a photo, but the delete icon is not available.

Check and see if they synced from more than one computer app.
In itunes, Photos> Check mark "Sync Photos from". See what else is in the drop down menu. (i.e. iphoto, pictures folder, Aperture, choose folder, etc.). If you get the option to: Select Albums, Events, Faces and automatically include. Check mark that, and see if any blue album, or events are ticked. If so, uncheck mark and go down and click Apply/Sync.

Aperture deleting mess

I am afraid I messed up with my Aperture library after migrating from iPhoto..
I have organized the photos in Albums, and I refer to them when I open Aperture and look for pics or when I import new ones from my camera.
But I know that pictures in Albums don't reflect exactly all the pictures you have imported, because if I delete one photo i dont like from one Albume that photo will stay in the project, and in the disk, taking space. Now, what I need is to be able to delete all the photos that don't appear in Albums, in order to free (a lot of) space. Is there a way?

If you want to delete images, the direct way would be to start from the projects and not from the albums. Deleting from a project will always remove the image from all albums using the image. If you are deleting from the albums and want to delete the originals as well, use the command "File > Delete original image and all versions".
Now, what I need is to be able to delete all the photos that don't appear in Albums, in order to free (a lot of) space. Is there a way?
To find all images not contained in albums, I'd open all albums one by one, select all images in the album and flag them (Metadata > Flag - look for the keyboard shortcut assigned to the command in the menu). Then I'd create a smart album (File > New > Smart album) and set the "Flag" rule to "No". This will give you an album containing all images that are not included in albums and you can delete them all at once or send them to the "Rejected" album by pressing the "9" key. But i might be safer to delete them individually, to be sure, not delete anything accidentally that you might regret later.

TS1702 How to delete unwanted photos?

I have been unable to delete unwanted photos from 'Photos' on my iPad which were synced from my Windows7 PC. Following carefully from the instructions the 'Delete' Icon is either missing or clouded out. I am at loss for an answer. HELP!

To delete synced phtos you have to unsync them:
iOS and iPod: Syncing photos using iTunes
To delete photos from your device
In iTunes, select the device icon in the Devices list on the left. Click the Photos tab in the resulting window.
Choose "Sync photos from."
On a Mac, choose iPhoto or Aperture from the pop-up menu.
On a Windows PC, choose Photoshop Album or Photoshop Elements from the pop-up menu.
Choose "Selected albums" and deselect the albums or collections you want to delete.
Click Apply.
