Aperture does not recognize camera card.

Aperture does not see camera card iin card reader connected to a USB port, although I can see the card both in iPhoto and with Finder.  When I plug it in it shows very briefly in Aperture and then dissapears. This is something new as I have used the software, card and card reader for a couple years and had no porblems.  Aperture sees all the other components of the system, including external drives, but only briefly (1 second) the card reader.

Hello John,
If after reformatting the card you still have problems to see your camera in in Aperture you may have a problem with the "Preferences" file.
Remove the file "com.apple.Aperture.plist" from the "Preferences" folder in your User Library, as described in Aperture 3: Troubleshooting Basics: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3805; don't delete the file, just remove it to the Desktop, so you can put it back, if it does not help, for after removing the Preference file all settings will be reset to their default setting.
Léonie
P.S. How do you delete the images from the card, if you do not format the card to erase them? It is not save to let any imaging software on your computer do that, that may corrupt the file system on the card. Your camera knows best how to delete the images.

Check your Import settings in the Import Panel, i.e. all that might exclude the image type you want to import:
If you did not exclude any file types, and still Aperture will not import, remove your ImageCapture preferences fro your user library:
To remove the image capture preferences:
If Aperture is running, quit Aperture,  and log off and on again.
Open your user library from the Finder's Go menu: Hit Command Shift G (⌘⇧G) and then type in: ~/Library/Preferences/  then hit return.
In the window that opens remove "com.apple.ImageCapture.plist"
and look into the subfolder "ByHost": if there are files named com.apple.ImageCapture  something .plist  remove them too.
    then try again.
And if that still does not help, remove the Aperture preferences as well:
    ~/Library/Preferences/aperture.plist
    Regards
    Léonie
P.S. in MacOS Lion and later the user library ~/Library is hidden by default.
You can reveal it also  from the Finder's "Go" menu:
Finder > Go,   then hold down the options ⌥ key, until the Library appears in the drop-down menu, select it and open the Library folder. Then go to the "Preferences".

When I go to Control Panel>System>Device Manager>Sound, video and game controllers>Sound Blaster Auditgy FX>Properties it shows "This device is working properly."

OK, so you don't understand my original post. I installed the card and software two days ago, 12/16/14. The problem was present at that time. Then today at 1:47pm, I installed the Windows update. The problem persists, that means I still have the problem. The problem exists BEFORE and AFTER Windows update. I did follow your suggestion and uninstall and re-install the Audigy FX software and STILL have the problem.

  • Aperture does not detect CF Card

I am using Aperture 2 with my Canon EOS 30D. I used 2GB Sandisk CF cards and have had no issues ever. Recently I bought a 4GB and 16GB CF card and for some reason Aperture/Mac does not detect these cards. When I connect my camera via USB to my macbook, and click import, it does not show my Canon as a drive available to choose pics from. With my 2GB card it does.
    Any ideas?

Does the card show up in the Finder? I suspect this isn't an Aperture issue.

Please,  run the DirectX diagnostics tool (32-bit version).
Go to Windows Start and in the Run box type dxdiag.exe and press the OK button. This will start the DirectX diagnostics program. Run this diagnostics and save the results to a file. Please, attach this file to your post.

  • Aperture does not recognize a vault

I have been assembling all my pictures in Aperture and then had to re install the program due to a repair when my disk was wiped. The re install went Ok and Aperture opens but does not recognize a vault I created on an external drive, where all the pictures are stored. How can I get to my pictures?
    Thanks in advance

If you renamed your drive after it was wiped out, Aperture will not recognize the vault and will give you a message saying that it isn't a valid vault. This happened to me when I decided to rename an external drive on which I had a vault. I had to rename the drive back to its original name in order for Aperture 3 to recognize the vault. I sent a bug report to Apple on this and asked if this means I have to create new vaults every time I decide to rename a drive.

  • Lightroom 4/5 does not recognize memory cards anymore

I signed up for the Creative Cloud $10 PS/LR deal earlier this week.  Previously I had LR 4 (and PSE).  I'm a longtime LR user.  The first time I used LR5 was today.  The problem I describe started happening in LR4 as soon as I downloaded CC, before LR5 was even installed, and is continuing to happen in LR5. I have (and have always had) the option checked for the import dialog box to pop up when a memory card is detected. That is no longer happening as of the CC download.  If I click on "import", it does show my memory card; the dialog box just does not automatically pop up.  When the memory card is highlighted on the top left of the import dialog box, it states that there are no photos.  This happens with all 5 of my memory cards, so I feel confident it is not a memory card issue.  If I go further down on the left side of the import dialog box, I can click on the drop down arrow for my memory card and it will bring up the folder that is on the card (where the photos actually are).  If I highlight this folder, the photos show up and I am able to import them.  At times, Lightroom sees photos on the card that are already imported but does not recognize them as duplicates, but not always.  I have searched for answers on this but have not found anything that pertains to my situation.  Can anyone tell me how to get my import dialog box to automatically open again when I insert a memory card?  Thank you.
ETA:  I am using a Mac running OSX 10.8.5.

The virtual keyword is classified as a "future reserved word". In the current AS3 language spec it does nothing, and can safely be removed.
    From the help:
"There are also several identifiers that are sometimes referred to as future reserved words. These identifiers are not reserved by ActionScript 3.0, though some of them may be treated as keywords by software that incorporates ActionScript 3.0. You might be able to use many of these identifiers in your code, but Adobe recommends that you do not use them because they may appear as keywords in a subsequent version of the language."

  • Aperture does not recognize files on SD card after Yosemite

After Yosemite upgrade, Aperture cannot see/import files (both RAW and JPEG) on the SD card (using SD card reader plugged into a USB port).
I know for sure the files are there as I can see them using other devices and using Finder on the same iMAC.
The iMAC (year 2008, 4G RAM)itself is also running slowly with lots of spinning beach ball all the time.

Does Aperture not show the card in the Import panel, or only no photos on the card?
Have you checked all Import Settings in the Import panel, that could exclude photos? i.e. "Do not import Duplicates", "File Types", "Only include ...", RAW&Jpeg Pairs?

  • Aperture does not recognize all photos on sd card

I have a weird issue with Aperture. When I took the SD card out of my Nikon D3100 and put it in my MacBook Pro it only recognized the pictures I took a couple weeks ago. I took a series of photos and video last night and my childs christmas program and they will not show up in Aperture. The weird thing is that iPhoto will see them fine. I tried manually copying the pictures to a folder on my computer then tried to import from that folder but they still will not appear then either. As far as I can tell the pictures are not corrupted and I can open them in iPhoto, Preview and even Image Capture sees them. When I get info all the meta data appears. I did not shoot them RAW either which I have had no problem in the past importing anyway. These where all taken with the normal jpeg option at the full 14.2mp.
I made sure my Aperture is fully updated too. Any suggestions on how to get Aperture to recognize these pictures?

Nevermind, I just spoke with my wife who imported the pictures last night just from that event. She did not delete them after importing either. I guess next time this happens I will uncheck the box that says "Do not import duplicates" to troubleshoot.

  • PC does not recognize sound card

    Hi,
I'm trying to install a Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio PCI Express into a HP xw-4300 Workstation (Windows XP sp3), so far with little success.
I had an old Sound blaster PCI card in it, IIRC, a PCI card installed in this PC automatically disables the onboard sound card.
So far this is what I have tried,
Shut down PC, remove old card, install new card ,reboot, cancel the "Install new hardware", install drivers, reboot. No sound. I then run the X/Fi update and the associated programs, reboot, still no sound. I try to run any of the associated programs ans they each say there is no card found.
Try above process again but this time I chose to schedule an update and it says it recognizes the X/Fi card.
I then noticed the onboard card is again working, and figured this was my problem. I looked in the bios for a way to turn the onboard sound off and found nothing.  After some research I found I needed to remove the drivers, So first I put the old SB  card in and uninstalled the drivers for that card through Device Manager. Now that the PCI card was gone, the Realtek Drivers were accessible to be uninstalled.
Now I install the X/Fi card and reboot.  I went back to the original installation as per Creative's manual and still nothing.
Reboot, This time when the "new Hardware" came up I ran it in hopes that it would connect the card to the already loaded drivers. Instead the new hardware found, appears to have been the onboard sound and loaded the drivers for it.
Anyone have any suggestions on how to disable the onboard and get this card to run?
    Thanks

Try this and see if it works.
With the card removed, go into Device Manager and DISABLE the drivers for the working audio device. Then power off the PC, install the new card and power up. You should not have any sound at this point. Now install the Creative software and reboot. Check the Creative web sites for updates.

  • Aperture does not recognize Internet connection with SmugMug

When I try to add an account for SmugMug, the Accounts dialog box shows, "Your computer is not connected to the Internet. Aperture needs an Internet connection to login to SmugMug."
I added a Flickr account with no problems. How can I get Aperture to recognize that I have an Internet connection for SmugMug?

    jscorbin wrote:
    ** Workaround **
The problem appears to be with some routers in the network -- for example my Netgear R6300. When I hooked my iMac (running Mavericks) directly to the cable modem with an Ethernet cable, Aperture was able to authenticate with the SmugMug service (using Safari). The Apple Professional Applications technician suggested trying that, and it worked.
After replacing the original network configuration, where the iMac is connected through the Netgear router, Aperture maintained the SmugMug shared service, and I was able to upload and download photos with SmugMug.
Confirmed that this insane workaround did work. ***, Apple and/or SmugMug? This should be fixed. It doesn't jive with Apple's "ease of use" software mantras.
BTW -- I have a Netgear WNDR4500 v1 in between the world and my Mac.

  • Swapped hard drives, but now Aperture does not recognize library file

I just swapped out my MBP hard drive for a larger one. I used SuperDuper to restore the small HD to the new, larger one from a third Firewire disk.
Everything else is working fine, except that Aperture says that "The selected master image is either offline or not found. Please reconnect it and try again." every time I try to do anything meaningful with any file in my library.
    I have:
-Repaired permissions on the new HD with Disk Utility
-Tried several times moving the library file around to various places, telling Aperture where to find it each time, and restarting Aperture. Aperture finds the images okay, but I can't really do anything with them, as I get the above error message.
-Renamed my new HD, going through the Aperture Prefs, and re-specifying where the library lives, and then repeating the process with the HD named yet again.
Nothing seems to work for me. What else can I try?

    1. Are you using referenced or managed Masters?
    2. If using referenced Masters, have you tried reconnecting them via File>Manage Referenced Files...? What happens if you right-click on a thumbnails and pick 'Show in Finder'?
    3. If using managed Masters, have you done a Spotlight search inside the Library package (right-click on it in the Finder and choose 'Show Package Contents') to see if the master files are still in there?
Moving the Library and/or renaming drives isn't going to help without finding out exactly where Aperture thinks the files should be.

  • MacBook Pro now does not recognize USB card reader

My computer recently stopped recognizing my usb card reader. The usb port works fine with my iphone and ipod. The card reader works when plugged into a windows based machine. The problem is not related to OS 10.6 because I had the issue prior to upgrade. I must of updated something software related that is causing the problem. Anyone have any ideas?

My computer recently stopped recognizing my usb card reader.
We'll need to know exactly what you mean by this. Plug in the reader, without a card in it. Go to Apple Menu > About this Mac > More Info and click on USB in the left column of System Profiler. Do you see *Mass Storage Device* listed under one of the USB port entries in the right part of the window? If so, the reader is recognized. If not, it really isn't. In that case, reset the SMC in your MBP:

Then test again and post back with results.
