Aperture doesn't appear in iWork's media browser or Mail's Photo Browser

I've just installed Aperture 2, and I realize that it doesn't appear in the following browsers:
- Media Browser in iWork'08
- Photo Browser in Mail
Also, in iTunes, I can select Aperture to sync photos from, but no album is displayed
Any idea what could be wrong ?
Thanks for your help.

After a long while on the phone with Apple Tech Support, we finally figured out the solution. After deleting ALL my previews (control-click on your main library icon and choose delete all previews) the Aperture library structure shows up everywhere it is supposed to. Of course, generating new previews will give access to the images again...
Hope this helps.

  • Some Aperture stills not appearing in iMovie 11 Media Browser

    Hello all,
I have been importing images into Aperture for a while now and just realized that iMovie (09 and 11) are not reading some of the stills I have stored in it. I have made sure that all my images are stored in an Aperture managed library and not as reference files. When I start up iMovie it takes a while and scans for new videos but I'm concerned with the stills that are not appearing. I can see the project and album titles appearing in the Media Browser but iMovie states that there are no files inside. I've also told Aperture to always share previews with iLife and iWork. Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance!

    Welcome to the forums.
The fact that you are able to see the Ap library and the project suggests that there maybe no previews available for that project.
At the top of the Library tab is a little cog, within here is an option for previews, also in the Ap preferences is another option for creating previews, check that these are set correctly.

  • Aperture library does not update in iLife media browser

I had the following problem for over a YEAR now. The *photo browser* does not have current Aperture information available. I looked everywhere for a solution, including this forum and the support database. The proposed solutions were as follows:
    1. Turn on iLife sharing and auto-preview creation in Preferences - DUH!
    2. Turn off iLife sharing, restart Aperture, then turn it back on - DOES NOT WORK
    3. Hold down Command-Option when starting Aperture and rebuild library - DOES NOT WORK
    4. Trash ApertureData.xml file - DOES NOT WORK
    5. Trash ApertureData.xml as well as Aperture.aplib folder - DOES NOT WORK
I'm sure there were a few more things I tried. I thought I'd ask a "genius" at the Apple store. I realized then (again) that that moniker is gravely misplaced.
The crux of the problem is that the ApertureData.xml is not kept up-to-date by Aperture. That XML file is used throughout the Mac to provide photo browser access and insertion of preview files into Mail, iLife, iWork and other supported programs. Why that file stopped updating is a mystery to me. Some people suggest it has to do with the upgrade from 1.5 to 2.
For all those super-frustrated Aperture users who have had the same issue and cannot fix it using any of the above methods, here's ultimately what I had to do to fix this.
    1. Export every one of your projects
    2. Create a new Aperture library
    3. Import all projects into the new library
The only items that do not transfer are the ones situated at the root level of the library. Those will have to be recreated manually. Since I only had a few smart folders there, it did not affect me gravely. The keyword list should also be created when you create the new library. If not, look for Keywords.plist in the old Aperture.aplib folder.
I spent literally WEEKS looking for this solution, it is nowhere to be found. I cannot be the only one running into that problem. I'd be curious to know if there are others out there with the same problem.
    Thanks!

Wow, this is not encouraging. I have a slightly different version of this problem. I had my Aperture library showing up (and updating as I expanded it) in the Media Browser, and all was well until I bought a new Mac and transferred everything over from the old one. For whatever reason, not everything makes it over. Now, on the new Mac, my Media Browser only shows images from Photo Booth--not even iPhoto! I feel your pain and share your ire.
Someone mentioned September (not coming soon enough). Is there speculation that Aperture will be updated (finally!) when Snow Leopard releases?

  • IWork 08 Media Browser Opens Network Shares?

The iWork Media Browser seems to have some rule for automatically mounting network shares.
Is there any way to prevent this? In my case it is accessing a share that is holds sensitive data, is slow to mount, and which contains no items I'd ever insert into an iWork's document.

After a long while on the phone with Apple Tech Support, we finally figured out the solution. • New iPhoto Videos stopped appearing in iMovie (and media Browser too)

I only recently discovered the usefulness of viewing iPhoto videos in iMovie, simplifying the process to editing my videos.
However recently my videos have stopped appearing. I am using Leopard 10.5.6 and the videos are captured using a Powershot SD750 camera into an AVI format. up until the 12/12 the videos appeared fine, and I am sure that I haven't changed anything. The iPhoto library is stored on a NAS drive. Which does seem to lose connection on a regular basis, causing me to need to choose the library in iPhoto again.
When I launch iMovie it used to ask about loading the Iphoto videos though I have not seen this dialogue recently.
I also notive that in the media browser iDVD or web upload these particular videos are not shown.
I would be grateful for any help...
    Thanks,
    Richard

Suddenly today, this is working fine, not sure why, as I had rebooted the machine several times to try and resolve...
If anyine has any ideas as to why, I would appreciate it. When I opened iMovie today I saw the dialogue that had been missing:
    http://img.skitch.com/20081229-edbqdfxq1njhrd892gkkbw91i7.jpg
And when it was complete the missing videos were shown.

  • Title of Web Page doesn't appear at very top of browser window!

Running 3.6.8 on Mac OSX 10.6 (Snow Leopard) and the name/title of the website I am currently viewing doesn't appear above the address bar.
For example, for this page (support.mozilla.com/en . . . ), "Ask a Question | Firefox Support" does not show up on the top.
The title of the page DOES, however, appear in the tabs, but I often don't browse with multiple tabs open on a given browser window.
I have tried running in safe mode, have disabled all addons/themes etc, but nothing seems to fix the irritating problem.

I've partially fixed it by making some adjustments and republishing. but I still could not get the reflection to appear with the photo - which left a blank space that threw off the spacing on the page. i've removed the reflection to resolve this.

  • IPhoto doesn't show up in iMovie media browser

I have the fully installed iLife 06, and when I am in iMovie and go to the media browser to pick an image, nothing shows up to populate the browser. It seems as if the browser is not seeing iPhoto. I have tried this with iPhoto open and closed. No difference. I have thrown out the iLife media browser plist. Still no luck. Threw out the iPhoto plist. No luck. Repaired permissions and restarted. Stilll no luck. Coincidentally, the mark/space photo conduit for my in The Missing Sync cannot see iPhoto also. It's as if other programs have no clue that iPhoto is installed. Anybody have this happen? What's the fix?

    SGMS,
    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
You are right. That example describes the keyword information from the AlbumData.xml file, not the keyword list in iPhoto.
In the iPhoto keyword list, click on your first keyword to select it. Then use the down arrow key to highlight each keyword in succession. If you come across a blank space in the list that becomes selected, click on the - symbol below the list to delete it. I have seen several reports of a blank keyword causing the problem. Another easy check is to click on a keyword, then click Rename to highlight it. If you see a blank space before or after the keyword, delete the space.
If that's not it, I'll explain further. Dave E's instructions are for how to read the AlbumData.xml file to help identify if you have a faulty keyword. The xml file is just inside your iPhoto Library Folder. You have to access it through the Finder. (Be warned not to change anything you find from the Finder, though.) Right-click (control-click) on the AlbumData.xml file. Choose Open with > Other... then navigate to the Application Text Edit. When it opens, type Command F (Find) and in the Find box enter "List of keywords". The document will scroll down to show you the text where the keyword information is listed. This is where it looks like the description by Dave E. If you see 2 keywords lumped together, then you close the xml file, go back to the keyword list in iPhoto Preferences, and edit or delete the words that did not have the same format as the others.

  • No photos (nor music, movies)-appearing in iWork apps' Media panel

Since upgrading my Mac Mini to OS X Mavericks + the latest iWork apps and iLife apps, I can't see any of my photos in the Media panel that appears in any of the iWork apps.
I just see a message saying "No Photos" and "To add photos, go to iPhoto."
But when I go to iPhoto (or Aperture) all my many thousands of photos are all there.
The Media panel panel in my new iWork apps also doesn't show any of my iTunes music nor Garageband music, nor does it show any movies.
I've repaired permission on the disk but that made no difference.
Has anyone else seen this problem?  Anyone know how to solve it?
    Any tips appreciated.

    Re: Photo Issue
I just did a test in the Guest account with a test library and it seems that the problem can be caused by the file name for the photo file, including the extension.   If the file is named iPhoto Library.photolibrary, Pages shows the photos.  If it is called Aperture Library.aplibrary then Pages can't find the photos.
When I renamed an Aperture file, Aperture then created a blank library when I opened it.  I was able to open the renamed library in Aperture by choosing Switch to Other Library and then opening the renamed one.
I haven't tested this with the Aperture library full of photos because changing the name might cause other unexpected problems and I don't want to take the risk.
This seems to be a bug that Apple could fix fairly easily in an update so I'll wait for the fix.
    Hope this helps.

  • Aperture doesn't appear to write IPTC core correctly ?

    Hi,
Having trouble getting some fields specifically written to Nikon NEF's and exported JPG versions of the same.
Specifically the Creator field and Copyright field do not correctly reflect what is entered in Aperture IPTC Core panel even after explicitly writing to masters via menu command. Everything else seems to work.
This is confirmed by Preview > Info Window > IPTC Tab and also Expression Media which doesn't seem to pick up any of the metadata.
Are there known bug's with NEF's - My camera is set to Embed the two suspect fields on capture and I'm wondering if even though I'm explicitly "Replacing" the metadata in the Batch Change command, somehow this is still not respected by Aperture ??
Is there a way to force Aperture to output XMP Sidecars ?
    Any input welcome ?
    Thanks

  • Some Aperture photos and projects missing from iLife Media Browser

Good evening - having a little bit of trouble getting Aperture to work smoothly with my iLife media browser (i.e., inserting photos into Mail, Pages, Keynote, etc).
I currently have 5699 photos and 131 projects in Aperture. But the iLife Media Browser only shows me 5131 photos and 130 projects; when clicking on individual projects in the browser, anywhere from 3 to 70 photos per project are missing. Tried repairing permissions, repairing the database, and rebuilding the database - this improved the issue, but didn't completely resolve it as 5679 photos now show in the Media Browser, and 20 remain missing. Also tried deleting, and generating previews for all my photos in the library. No change.
My library is mostly referenced, with a few photos managed.
Obviously in the grand scheme of things 20 photos missing in the Media Browser not that big a deal. But wanting to get to the root cause though because without solving this issue, I'm concerned about a larger underlying problem that may only get worse as my library grows.
Has anyone had, or resolved a problem similar to this? And can anyone offer any additional suggestions? Are there any specific files that feed the iLife Media Browser that I can delete and rebuild that may solve this issue?
    thanks,
    Mark

I think I've ironed this out. Several intertwined issues. I took a moment to type out my notes; hopefully it helps you guys solve this quickly if you get a call from someone else on this down the line.
[1] original problem of several hundred items missing in Media Browser: probably an issue of previews not being built. Mostly fixed when I regenerated previews for my library, but repairing permissions and repairing the database may have helped too.
[2] Residual problem of 20 items still missing (5698 items displayed in Aperture when selecting Inspector > Library > Photos; 5677 items displayed in Mail Photo Browser). My issue wasn't as much with 20 missing items in a browser as it was with trying to understand the root cause and whether I had an underlying Aperture, Aperture Library, or OS problem that would bite me later. Turns out several things were causing this problem:
[2a] In Aperture, when you select Inspector > Library > Photos , all your content is displayed: photos, videos, and any audio clips you may have imported (e.g., a recorded audio clip on your camera narrating shoot, location, client, exposure value etc). So even though you've selected "Photos", your "xxx items displayed" count on the bottom of the screen reflects all your imported content. This is not the case in the Media Browser - of which there are two variants in Mac OS:
[2a.1] Mail has a Photo Browser, which behaves much like a "Media Browser Lite: the title bar says "Photo Browser", it only accesses your Aperture and iPhoto Libraries, and only shows photos and video.
[2a.2] iWork applications have a more comprehensive Media Browser, where you can select between Audio, Photos, and Movies. If you select Audio the iWork Media Browser will show any audio files present in your Aperture or iTunes library. If you select Movies, the iWork Media Browser will show any movie clips present in your Aperture or iMovie libraries. Photos behaves the same way as "Photo Browser" in Mail, showing any photos present in your Aperture (or iPhoto if installed) libraries.
Turns out I had three audio clips in my Aperture library. When selecting "Photos" in either the Mail or iWork browsers, the total item count will only show photos and videos - no audio clips. So now 17 missing items remain.
[2b] Stacks - one project contained nine photos grouped into a stack. Only the key photo of a stack is previewed/shown in Media Browser. So a stack of nine photos will only show as one in the browser - unstacking the photo will allow them all to appear. So now nine missing items.
[2c] Seven photographs somehow had broken links to their referenced masters, and needed to be reconnected. Down to two missing items.
[2d] One photo simply wouldn't cooperate - no matter how many times I regenerated the preview, or deleted the preview and then regenerated it, nothing worked. I deleted it from the library and reimported it. One missing item remains.
[2e] Final missing item was a photograph I rejected. Makes sense; as media browser does not display rejects.
Problem solved!! Hopefully this might be of help to somebody in the future.
    cheers,
    Mark

  • Aperture 3 not in Media Browser - Non-Default Library Location Issue

    Hi Everyone,
My Aperture Library cannot be viewed in the media browser. I created a new Aperture library in the default location which resolved the issue; however, I have my library on an external hard drive and it is too big to put on my internal HD.
Any suggestions on how to tell iLife & iWork to look in my external HD?
    Message was edited by: ZerbyPhotography

    Hello Everybody,
Ok...I went to the Genius Bar, but to no avail. (by the way, my issue about not being able to open programs while holding alt was due to my not depressing the alt key for the required length of time. So, false alarm on that one. Oops!)
I just updated to 3.0.1. I continued to have the same issues with accessing my files through the media browser. I called tech support; and through their instructions, I was able to gain access to my library through the media browser. This seemed to be by accident, so I don't know if it was due to the update, a particular logarithm of library selection, or a combination of the two.
What I remember being the last actions were to create an alternate library, >file, >>switch to library, >>>other, select the new library, (possibly restarting Aperture), then switching back to my main library through the same selection as previous (i think...possibly by a different method).
Regardless, my library is now accessible in the media browser in iLife & iWork programs.

I am just getting started w/ iWeb anad have 2 questions:
    1. I have iPhoto 6.0.6. My iPhoto library does not appear in the iWeb media browser. How do I fix this?
    2. Why can't I highlight a movie from my iPhoto library and publish it to iWeb? How do I get a movie from iPhoto to iWeb?
    thank you!

Where are your images sourced from? Are they all coming from the same camera for example? It could be that there is actually a white border on your images.
Try opening a few images up in an image editor and checking if there is a trim around the edge.
